MICRO Tic Tac EDC Key Chain Survival Kit

- Survival kits are worthless if left behind! The point of this kit is it's small enough to carry EVERY SINGLE DAY on your keys. IT IS NOT A COMPLETE KIT, just a bare bone, initial prototype idea I had of a few useful items: kits the size of a 9V battery have lots of limitations! Here's my original, keychain sized PSK built in an Altoids Smalls empty tin I mounted to my key chain with a zip tie: • Altoids SMALLS Surviva...
Here's a quickie, follow-up, JOKE video for a little laugh: • Tic Tac Self-Destruct ...

I don't hike or camp. Yet it gives me so much pleasure watching these videos, while lying bed.
Tic Tactical.
+TotalOutdoors Totally! Tancs
+MeZillch can i ask you a serious question
My friends username for many games is tictactical
+Ian W Cool.
NICE
Wow! Have to look up your solar charger light device. Your gadgets are SO clever and useful -- and fun!
This is what life hacks should be. Not how to make garbage with hot glue.
I love this kind of stuff - both the compact serious survival and minor disaster kits fondly remind me of happy days in Wolf Cubs Canada, making our "emergency kits" out of those tiny, thin Anacin/Aspirin tin boxes that went "pop-pop" when opened and closed. Having one in my pocket mage me feel a bit like a superhero.
And I was always big on utility belts and bandoliers worn by heroes and crimefighters like Batman and Spidey. Part of me still thinks it'd be boss to wear such a belt with all that gear and assist citizens in need. Hypoglycemia? Here's a glucose tablet. Bee sting? EpiPen, antihistamine, and typical cream right at hand. Upset child? A bit of candy and a balloon animal! Something for every contingency.
Perhaps I'll make one someday, even if it's only for my city's summer rodeo arts and crafts exhibition. "The Urban Citizen Utility Belt". (No knockout gas pellets or Batarangs, sadly, but the life-preserving gear you'd need to reel in a fish or suture a wound, definitely.)
You are a perfect cross between James Bond's Q and the robot WALL-E.
I'm so addicted to these videos! There needs to be a name for my fascination with neatly organized kits. Everything from food rations to survival. So oddly satisfying!
Some people have called me "OCD" 😃
Exceptional work!! Incredibly useful kit for such an impossibly small scale!
Thanks. Share a link to it with your friends. :)
Thanks MeZillch! When i was a child I used to make little kits out of painkiller containers, the kind with squeeze on caps. Still here in 2021!
You're a genius. Been watching your videos for over 2 years and I must say you're a genius!
Thanks.
Your stuff is amazing-a true talent for coming up with needs seemingly almost 'reversed engineered.' Your understanding of space utilization/efficiency is off the charts. A sort of EDC 'geek' myself, I try to make every micro inch count on what I carry with me, but nothing like what you do. Your solar charging system is awesome. I think NASA could take a few pointers from you in how to engineer things while saving millions of dollars at the same time! Keep up the great ideas.
Thanks
I love when I get an email saying you have anew video posted. I know I'm in for something cool AGAIN and you never let us down. Some thing I do for water treatment, is I use a Q-tip shaft that's plastic and hollow. I hot glue one end closed and then filled it with potassium permanganate and hot glue it shut. It's not the best for treating water, but it's better than nothing and it never goes bad and that Q-tip shaft holds enough to treat A LOT of water. I bet some thing like that would fit real nice in one of these kits. Keep up the great work.
+wjf213 Yes, I mention instead of, or in addition to the single Tic Tac a good idea might be a water treatment tablet. Most of my kits carry a vial of bleach and or Katadyn MP-1 water purification tablets, plus a watertight bag in case one can't find or make any container.
+MeZillch Oh I agree with you completely about having a tablet or something, but those single wrapped tablets just take up way too much room in a tiny kit and they HAVE to stay in the wrapping until needed. Bleach is the same way, even in a sealed straw or its original container, it leaches out and in a few months, has lost almost all it's disinfectant qualities.
That's why I chose PP over everything else for tiny to small kits, the shelf life is almost forever, the amount of water I can treat in such a small package is huge, plus the cost to replace is less than a penny. It's not the best for sure, but for me in such a tiny package, it's the best option.
I actually got the idea from you when you were putting things in straws, I started thinking of what's smaller and straw like that I can put PP in and that's when I looked at the Q-tip shaft. Keep up the great work.
Calcium based pool shock will produce bleach for water purification. Just a few grains per liter should do it. It can be sealed from air in a piece of straw. I always put some on my paracord bracelets with your recommended produce bag (cut down) Always fun videos.

absolutely love your videos sir! the creativity is inspiring and I've used alot of your designs in my own edc and different packs. keep up the great work!
You put a huge amount of effort into that video. Well done. I enjoyed it.
+Daddy Dave Thanks. Although I've been working on the solar powered glow fob part for some time the survival kit aspect of this kit was actually something I slapped together quite quickly and I think it is missing many items I should have put in it. I show a good number of them in my Altoids SMALLS kit: ua-cam.com/video/oWwSqYlqZHE/v-deo.html
Thanks. I've been working on getting my Altoid kit going. Great ideas
I love your videos. You take EDC to a whole new level.
Your channel and ingenious solutions are really fascinating! Like you I EDC a number of items, generally a medium sized SAK on a carabiner off a beltloop in my back pocket with my keys, attached to this I have a True Utility Firestash (peanut lighter); in my coin pocket I generally EDC a LM Squirt in black, a small Clipper lighter, and an olight, all upright fitting exactly, and the plastic lighter in the middle so my multitool and flashlight don't get scratched. I don't like bulky items in my pockets, belt pouches if I'm in an urban setting, or bulky keychains. So after I saw kitbashed survival's review of the expensive Wazoo Cache Survival Belt, I made one myself with a cheap moneybelt from ebay which I have put a lot of items into including duct tape, cordage, firesteel, stormproof matches, purification tablets, snarewire, small fishing kit, safety pins, alc wipes, wetwipe, bandaids, and cash.
if there is a new practice that shall be named urban modem survival crafts , you sir shall be a pioneer in such areas, love how you create such nano kits
Thanks
Al Mitwalem
Thanks, although just for the record I am not the first person to whittle down Mini BICs into those things. Mine's the smallest I've seen though
Wow. I accidentally stumbled onto this video and this is just fantastic!!
we know who's surviving the apocalypse
+tromboner2012 With minty fresh breath, to boot.
+MeZillch lol
A breathtaking moment.
TicTacalypse...😉
you mean during 2020
Wait a minute why am I watching this...
Same thing here
I find myself doing that a lot
It's youtube... why is any of it watched?
+MyLifeInAFlamingBag well stated and spot on
The spark generator might be the most useful thing in this kit.
Whenever one of your vids show up on my subscription feed I know I'm in for a thought-provoking treat. Yeah, have to agree with your second thoughts about using Tinderquick as a filtering medium for water. I don't know for a fact what that flame accelerant is that they're impregnated with, but I wouldn't want to drink it. A few suggestions:
~ there's always the folding paper coffee filter as an alternative; some of the smaller cone sizes would probably fold/roll up small enough to fit in your mini-tic tac kit. (The Haro 02 filters look like good candidates).
~ I don't know the brand but one of the juicebox'/pouch manufacturers includes a tiny telescoping drinking straw with their products. Trimming either end should give you straw that fits into a small container like your glow fob, but would expand to a more usable length (no filter capability though).
~ Consider substituting that single tic tac with a more survival-oriented tablet, like a coated aspirin (analgesic or for initial treatment of a heart attack/stroke victim), an antihistamine (for allergic reactions like an insect bite) or even a single water purification tablet (chlorine dioxide or crystalized iodine).
Love your idea of using a condom to make the glow fob/survival kit waterproof. Because as any self-respecting survivalist will tell you, condoms also make surprisingly good water containers.
I'm not normally full of helpful ideas, but your video channel inspires me to think creatively/out of the box!
The tic tacs are the only things I need
Yes! A couple of new ones, finally! I was wondering if you were still making these. Cool idea with this one, this looks like a fun experiment to do with my boys. Thanks for posting.
Great video, enjoyed watching as I like miniature and minimising stuff and thank you for the solar charger idea and the how to make it video as I had no idea how to do that or get that size solaar cell
This is amazing, I'll never do it, but it is amazing...
Как это здорово, когда у человека растут руки из правильного места😃очень крутой набор и столько всего сделано самостоятельно
You sir may be the most innovative man to walk the earth
Thanks
They still make them with the poor plastic in the UK but I have just discovered the larger box which they do in the better quality stuff. I am so glad I am not the only one who does this with Tictac boxes.
I love the micro tic tac edc survival kits. I will put one in fathers moster truck
Very well thought out. You could propel the tic tac mint out straw to stun very small game....good job....
+William Young Thanks. In some other kit I show the lone Tic Tac wrapped like a bon bon in cellophane. I advise that to keep it clean.
Or you could just eat some plants :) thats what i like to do.
I have an idea for it!! You could use some sort of food grade glue to hold that tic tac in the dispenser on the lid. Even elmers school glue. Almost tasteless, and food grade
Thanks. . . . Or how about a little pocket made of tape attached to the lid?
ya never disappoint ol zilch love your idea's ya have a great mind thank you bud
I swear you are a Time Lord everything you build is bigger on the inside!
Thanks now I want a Tic Tac.
+rmojo23 agreed
Lol me too my brother is obsessed with them I am going to have to stop letting him throw his containers away
Jamie Coleman yes why not because when you think about it it's quite useful for multiple things
i rmojo23 i
Dude, this is extraordinary! Well done!
+AeroDoe Thanks
Very clever indeed!! Esp. love the tiny cut-down sparker
I love you Chanel, I started watching you videos a really long time ago, you are one of the reasons I got into kits.. definitely my survival kit hero :)
+survivalist125 Thanks.
Of all the (gadget guy) postings, you are the King.
I have made for myself and a friend the EDC tool kit. Super
I wear the quick deploy bracelet. (10' of para chord). Excellent!
Please post your personal EDC. Thanks
The S clip would be better if it was a high quality carabena so you could use it to climb out of a situation with your para chord , but all in all, a good video 👍
Wow. Very inventive ... very much enjoyed this video ! Thank you
nice and very helpful survival kit
Hello I enjoy your videos. 👍 I desided to make a tic tac mini survival kit and I added a thumbtack and added floss around the plastic handle part like a spool.
Sounds good. Thanks for posting.
Always a treat to see one of your videos has been posted! I have also had some issues with the S-Biners coming open in my pocket and often have to fish around for my Ti3 or my titanium mini pry bar, both of which are on S-Biners. I actually thought you had put the Tic Tac in there as part of your fire making kit. If I'm not mistaken, they will take a flame and burn for some time, since they're essentially a pellet of sugar, although I don't have any on hand to test before I post this. If so, used in conjunction with your tinder, they'd add some oomph to your fire making capabilities. Anyhow, thoroughly enjoyed this video, as always.
+Whoozerdaddy Yes, Tic Tacs burn well. They have locking s-biners but they don't make orange colored ones that lock and I wanted everything in the video to be orange!
IN the zombie apocalypse, I'm on this guys side
at Marcus B - Yeah me too, im going to try to do what ever tips and tricks i can do to survive.
I doubt theres going to be a zombie apocalypse.
Really like your videos. I subscribed, keep up the good work.
+default Thanks.
oh wow I remember those old tic tac boxes. I didn't even realize they were different now!
Woah i never new the tic tac hack, its really amazing and useful👌👍
Lsd reference int the middle of tic tac survival? Hell yea. I can dig it.
+william kapanek The funny things is they REALLY do refer to those batteries as LSD. When nickel metal hydride batteries first came out they had an issue that they would self discharge even in storage so they had to be charged up immediately before use. This made them a poor choice for an item that doesn't get used very often just sitting on a shelf or in a survival kit. Then they invented Low Self Discharge and the battery suddenly became much more useful.
Using the key tag a micro utility knife can be made.
Remove the spine of the blade, insert the modded blade in the tag, insert a thin clip loop (or small easy open key ring) in the hole for keeping closed.
To use: remove the clip, extend the blade, pinch the blade in the tag with fingers while using.
With your water filtration straw maybe you should cut it in between the stretchy part so that you can expand the straw just a little bit more. Love your videos, thanks.
+andrew bouchard Thanks. Since I have no means to test the ACTUAL effectiveness in filtering out cryptosporidium and giardia I don't want to give people false hopes and develop this idea any further, even if your idea itself might be a good one. With issues of one's personal safety and health, or that of their family, people should seek out professional advice and not rely on silly videos I post making things out of string, bubble gum, plastic straws, and duct tape. ha-ha.
Actually i just reme when I was a kid I didnt have an altoids tin so I used one of these 🤣🤣🤣❤❤ grear minds think alike lol this is really dope 🤣
Now this one is cool and inventive.
+Rita Kuhl Thanks. Mini survival kits don't Always have to be mint tins, they also can be mint plastic boxes! Ha-ha.
Great content & cool ideas on your channel.
Thanks Gronk.
I got to see the docu about the FOX 40 whistle and grew to appreciate the work done so I bought one. I wear a lanyard that has some survival things on it. Sure I look geeky but I have things with me at all times really saves a lot of time not having to go searching for things. That fox 40 whistle is great to get family attention real fast and at a distance. They hear a FOX 40 it is sort of like my signature.
I have taken file to my keys and removed metal from them this way I don;t have to carry that additional weight on the lanyard.
The way you can market this is make this where it attaches to your shoes. Who ever loses their shoes? Having a light that turns on in the dark on your shoes can be considered a safety feature that can save you from being struck by a car? You might want to adapt your laser and light to accept a coin cell sized battery? That would go a long way in reducing size. Not near as much storage but when going micro you want to go to the extreme.
IDK if you are aware of the locking S clips but they use a tiny cam to lock them in place I have replaced all my S clips with lockable clips and ever since I have not lost a single item off my lanyard.
That's pretty cool! I made a pill bottle survival keychain...it has
Band aids
Ibuprophren
Antibacterial ointment
Fishing line
Fishing hooks
Matches
Small knife
Safety pins
Ear plugs
Cotton swabs
2 nails
A small legnth of parachord
A tiny glowstick
A guitar pick which when lit burns great for making a fire.
I think that's it.
love your videos. very creative thinking! 2-is-1, 1-is-none. fwiw: situational awareness, i could see yur reflection in your mini signal mirror. ;P baldy! lol. ;) seriously tho, your vids have inspired me to work on my own kits and i have learned so much. thanks for sharing mezillch! :) gonna get to macgyvering now. ;P
Thanks. I am indeed bald(ing) but interestingly when shot from this particular low angle anyone with tightly cropped hair looks bald because the hair line above the forehead is "over the horizon" and out of view.
The little hook that you used shouldn't give you any trouble from my experience. I work with dogs as well so that is the only issue I've had with them, I don't recommend using them to hook your dogs collar to a stabilized rope. I have always loved miniature things and I love packing and preparing when I go on trips I love theses types of videos but you and American Hacker have been the most helpful in the survival department. These are really great ideas and I never thought of a tic tac box in place of an altoids box👍🏼
+Jamie Coleman Hey, Thanks.
MeZillch your awesme😹
Hey MZ, great video as always. Good to see that you are still active and like the way your mind works. You have given me some cool ideas. Thanks for your vids.
you sound like metatron from supernatural
If you go to a bead store they often sell boxes similar to the tic tac type but several are even tinier as well as some that are shaped differently too such as a more elongated style.
Why so many dislikes? This video is gold and this guy is a genius, lots of cool ideas, Why people are so stupid?
i think that if one were to cut down the end of a flexible straw, you could make one that is longer, plus you could make the water filter using ground carbon, with fibers such as cotton; thus making it more effective.
I agree flexible straws make sense since they are compact and then expand. I don't have the tools necessary to test for cryptosporidium, Giardia, and E. Coli filtration success so for REAL filtration I stick to approved, commercial products I can count on rather than the rinky dink, kludge methods I mention in my videos [which should only be used as emergency backup plans if all else fails and never should be relied on for one's primary source of water processing]. Thanks for your comment.
As far as I know, they still sell the standart size from the 80s here in Germany
Also, I have a Wazoo Firestorm buckle on my keychain with added tinder (FAT pack), mirror, glow reflector sticker, a ceramic striker- sharpened, a 24" section of cord (cobra style) and it has a whistle. Add the Wazoo zipper pull fishing kit and a small flashlight and you're better prepared.
Bad ass lol thanx so much 🤣👊thanx for idea ❤
metal locking s binders are rock solid
I like your mini lighter videos please post more
Im giving you advice, for filtering water with straw use activated charcoal, store it in the small bottle (activated charcoal filters air and water, so it'd be better to be air-tight sealed).
Than put at one end your cotton in your straw, activated charcoal, and another cotton. What and how much activated charcoal can filter out depends upon how much it is used already.
Sounds good. I don't advertise any of my water filtering methods as being perfectly safe but rather only "better than nothing" because I have no easy way to test for cryptosporidium and Giardia .
in the UK we have clipper lighters, the spark generator in them is small and removable to be able to change the flint. you should take a look
+darronjknight Thanks. I'm not a smoker so I rarely buy lighters but I think the Clippers are less common in the US. If I see one in a shop I'll probably buy one to check it out but in the meantime I watched this video: ua-cam.com/video/pBVub2-vf6M/v-deo.html The spark device is indeed extractable but there is no chamber to hold tinder in it. I guess you could rig one with tape or something.
+MeZillch thanks for the reply, ex smoker myself thankfully :-) the bonus with the clipper spark device is how easy it is to replace the flint
I think a whistle goes in the kit, and one on your key chain too. The kit is for when you have nothing else.
I get you and I see what you mean but that whistle is nearly indestructible. You can drop it, step on it, submerge it, etc and it still works so the only (hopefully) reason you'd need a backup is because you lose it. If this kit is held on one's keys, as I carry it, then losing this external whistle would happen at the same time that you lose the kit itself and putting one in the kit, as you suggest, hogs a TON of space. Remember, my kit is the size of a 9 Volt battery so space is extremely limited. Thanks for your comment.
Thing your ideas are great...
Awesome thanks for posting
Great idea. Does seem like you could add a little more to it though. Like a sewing needle (maybe pre-threaded with floss?)
Yes. I show a needle in a similarly small kit here: ua-cam.com/video/oWwSqYlqZHE/v-deo.html
Well done!
by the way very well and wisely packed for such a small box
just a thought, but you could possibly put bit of string or dental floss or something similar at the bottom of smaller kits that sticks out of the top. that way, to remove the contents you can just tug on the string instead of having to knock stuff out against your hand.
this could also work with the tinder in your mini bic. :)
+TCC180 Excellent point. Thanks. In an upcoming video I use a fattened straw for the exact same function, BTW.
Very nice idea, thanks!
Many years ago I saw a micro survival kit in an old fountain pen, not tried it myself but feel free to try if you have an old fountain pen knocking about (I don't) Cant remember much of what was in it now but I remember a scalpal blade and needle and thread, also saw one in a cigar tube.
Really enjoy your videos mate. Regards Wayne
Thanks. Empty pens are also excellent stash boxes for carrying rolled up bills, rolled up, um, cigarettes, diamonds, etc.
another great vid. can't wait for the next one.
first video of yours I'm watching instant subscribed good stuff i like that you test and explain awesome all around
+Ken W Thanks. Whenever I see things that others have invented or concocted I know I always want some proof that it really does what they say so I usually build that right into my videos.
I could not resist either....subscribed 👍
Not a real fan when it comes to micro kits even if it its a part of a group of items. BUT, this playing with solar cells, led light and rechargeble battery was pretty neat. I liked it a lot. I think its a setup I will do some testing with myself. I am already using a solar powered charger for phones and stuff, and they really are handy. Thanks for the idea.
Tic Tac de supervivencia Excelente 👌
Highly Creative Micro Survival Kit. ---- Possible useful for some applications, and in certain scenarios. The aspect of making such an item can be a good exercise in thinking about different scenarios of what is needed during certain emergencies and what supplies may or may not be needed. At least it is something to think about and to consider. Video was released in March 2016. .
A good mirro can be seen 10 miles. From surface to plane can be seen 30 miles
Little straw, little mirror, razor blade. You've been partying with smurfs aint ya. Haha Just playing. Good video. My keychain fire kit is a keychain capsule full of homemade firestarters. I can fit 12 fires worth of material in it and i have a 3 inch piece of fatwood and a keychain ferro rod with striker. Ive always got a knife on me and thats what ive got on me if i can get to my car i have a large pill bottle fire kit
I'm no doctor, but this guys adderall either needs to be heavily decreased or increased. Anyway, great ingenuity! Lol
When I was younger I was diagnosed with ADD but as I got olde . . . Oh look a bird!
for tinder I like to use steel wool
I like it great idea!
Awesome video as usual!
Its the mint kit master
My idea of a survival micro tic tac kit. Same tape you got for holding the lid but reversed colors. Emergency whistle glued to the side. Fishing line wrapped around the case to hold the whistle tight. Bright led on/off with AAA battery. Box cutter blades polished to a mirror finish with a hole in the center. Bic lighter mod. Tube of superglue. Vaseline in straw. Short piece of empty plastic straw folded. ibuprofen, anti-diarrhea, chlorine, salt. safety pins. condoms. shortened ballpoint pen ink cartridge with cover. and a tiny compass. That should be enough for 99% of situations out there relatively close to civilization. Your phone will last a day or two to possibly call for help. It should still get GPS before it dies with offline maps. Then you're left with just the compass, the sun and moon, and a map drawn on your shirt.
They have a smaller tic tac one and a smaller one with like 5 tic tacs
I think you should mount your signalling mirror to the outside of the pill box, protected by your 'squash tape'. You'll note I use ' instead of " (saves room).
+sissiboo smith Good idea! Thanks
+MeZillch I can cut the mirror a little bit larger by doing this too.
The "old" Tiny tictacs are available in Germany ;)
How about replacing the tic tac with a water purification tablet? You can find a bottle just about anywhere…
Yes, good idea. I mention that actually on my list at 16:35 "mint (meds/water purification)"
Huge fan! Pack out a Vanquest organizer for us. I know you could do an awesome kit with their layout!
+TruthAndTattoos Thanks. I have a few organizer videos. Most are slow and narrated but here's a sped up version:ua-cam.com/video/WPa4Uezatno/v-deo.html
Somehow u must put a tampon in it.
1. Very good for injuries.
2. Very good to start fire with sparks.
+Grimm Factory You are right, they are great. I carry one in many of my survival kits in which they will fit, such as TIN 1: ua-cam.com/video/bsknhlTqw_s/v-deo.html
