      Fun fact: pretty much all karaoke bars in Korea use the same song catalog... and there are literally 1000 of them in Seoul. Anyway, whoever was in charge of putting english language songs into the catalog had NO idea whatsoever about western music. As a result, all of IOWA, album tracks and all, is included alongside the Beatles and ABBA.

      As someone who essentially grew up with this band as well (alongside korn, systemofadown, disturbed, etc.) I agree with you. self-titled, and Iowa, were very much their best, and its just been downhill ever since. One thing I was VERY dissapointed with (that I was kinda hoping you would touch upon, much to my dismay) this album was the awful production on it. how as a bad thats basically carried by the drums, guitar, vocals, theres basically no guitars!! theyre so low in the mix that the drums almost drown them out!! I know they have 3 members (2 guitars one bass) and on the recording, they all just mesh together in one, weak, bland sound. slipknot has been neutered. good thing we still have Anaal Nathrakth.

      It still does sound hardcore... Even compared to shit like Veil of Maya, and Born of Osiris. It's just a different kind of hardcore. The screams are a bit less jarring, but the percussion and the frantic pace of every song on that album, coupled with the really dark atmosphere keep it from being dated. That album is an absolute masterpiece.

    I just dont get the internets hate towards melodic singing in metal. Like not everyone enjoys slipknot or a disturbed or an avenged sevenfold because "its the heaviest music they know" but rather they just enjoy the blend of melodic vocalization over metal instrumentation. Why is that SO weird to people? Its not like its straight pop hooks or, god help me, rap verses over the instrumental. Its just traditional singing. Whats so off putting about that??

    • @BassbaitGG
      @BassbaitGG 9 років тому +5

      I know a band that has "pop hooks" and "rap verses" over the music without even coming across as radio friendly at all. Listen to "Skylines" by Painted in Exile. I actually really like that band but I'm sure you won't like it. Listening to the whole thing is quite an experience though.

    • @TheKarret
      @TheKarret 6 років тому +6

      Other bands have mixed them better - Scar Symmetry, Soilwork, Mercenary for starters.
      For me, I feel like when Slipknot tries to go soft, they just sound too much like Stone Sour, and I didn't listen to Slipknot to hear Stone Sour, I listened to Slipknot to hear Slipknot. Hell, That latter half of that collab Corey did with Tech N9ne sounded more like a Slipknot song to me than most actual Slipknot songs from their past 2 albums. There's this one fanmade mashup of Eminem's Not Afraid mixed with Devil in I that got me hyped as fuck like old Slipknot used to do [at least the first two verses of it] ... when this is happening, to someone who remembers their old sound and spent their high school days nearly addicted to the shit, something's up with Slipknot's direction.
      tbh, I always got the impression that they tried to impress metal people by ripping away and downplaying their hip hop roots, and that killed a lot of what musical uniqueness they had, and turned them into some generic parody of their former selves.
      If this is because they strictly used the music as their therapy, and the shittier quality of music means they're in better emotional places/mental states now, then, hey, I'm glad for 'em, I wouldn't want to know that they gave us those two great first albums and just keep suffering and there's just no end to it, no reward, no nothing for them after all their hard work.... I'm glad they have people who love their new shit, so they can keep living off of it and can enjoy their lives; they deserve that and I'm happy for them and hope all the continued success in the world to them, because no matter how shit I think their new stuff is [which is often just 'meh'], they still gave the world those first two albums and nothing can take them away.... but that doesn't change the fact that their music has suffered in some fans' eyes possibly because of the better place that they're in now.
      And it's not about the melodic singing - Opeth's melodic bits were wonderful and loved how Mikael mixed his cleans and harshes and I'm sad to hear his harshes go because I loved how they sounded; the same way I'd have been sad to hear his cleans go away if he decided to go heavier and just do all teh br00tal kvlt deth metulz. Ever since Alissa White-Gluz joined Arch Enemy and people found out she can sing really well, people bemoan the fact that she hasn't done so in Arch Enemy and wants Arch Enemy to do incorporate that. I'd say her starting a new band where she can sing would be a better option, since Arch Enemy has a multiple decades' long history of being totally harsh vocals; but the point is, there are fans who _want_ Arch Enemy to go more melodic so Alissa can show off her clean chops, so I don't think this argument is an accurate one to make.
      Slipknot's attempts to do slower stuff, if it's not like the creepy, serial killer/stalker/suicidal/fucked up in the head shit, tends to fall flat. Kudos to them for trying, but they aren't that great at it, especially when you compare it to just how well they could channel pure venting, cathartic rage full of fuck everyone, I don't give a fuck I'm going to fucking survive and no matter how much the world tries, no one can fucking stop me. The stubborn determination; the energy... it feels really really genuine and sincere and just absolutely oozes personality, even if it's not the most impressive musically or lyrically. What they lacked in those areas, they made up for with their delivery, imo. So when they take that attitude away, they're left with mediocrity at it's most bleh.

    • @dan_the_pathmaster7934
      @dan_the_pathmaster7934 5 років тому +5

      It has everything to do with quality. Power metal thrives on the interplay of melodic vocals with really deft compositions. Disturbed and A7X seem to dumb them both down to appeal to the mainstream

      @@TheKarret Really interesting comment. I know its forver ago you posted this. I believe Slipknot went softer like bands like Metallica have because it's vocally exhausting to do those vocals for so long. I believe it's why Taylor went to Stone Sour so much because it's give his voice a break. There's a channel that talks about his vocal changes especially on Subliminal Verses where he went into higher register. And also how he became less comprehensible as time went on from live audio. So they take large breaks to save his voice, I guess. Personally I wasn't big on this album before but now I love the singles and a lot of the deep cuts. I don't know what it is but I dig their later material a lot more like Subliminal Verses. The first song may be my favorite. Before I Forget I'm still not crazy about because it reminds me of a bluesy Metallica song or something but the rest I like. Rick Beato did a video on Duality that made me appreciate it more. I still love the first album the most with the industrial sound and chaotic nature and how the sampling and turntables are prominent as can be. Anyways, enjoyed your comment in the break downs even if I don't agree I like the analysis. I think they still have rap elements but their isn't this obvious rap delivery. It's more scattershot than methodical so it can just be seen as metal more than hip hop. But yeah. I feel that's them at their best.

    • @TheKarret
      @TheKarret 4 роки тому +2

      @@MistyDusker It's possible that he does it to save his voice; IIRC, he totally shot his voice while touring for Iowa because he didn't do it the right way and I think that Melissa Cross lady helped him learn a safer way to growl, but that initial voice bust is what lead to Vol 3 having a lot of softer vocals and more vocal experimentation, I think. Vol 3 has some solid tracks, I'll admit, I listened to that album a lot, too, I just then steered back to their first two albums a lot more.
      Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. It's fine to disagree. Yeah it's not as prominent as it used to be, which I personally liked more.

    Getting tired of all these "Slipknot is for kids that haven't discovered true metal yet, I listen to deathgrindmetalbendertrashsmashmouthcore, that's true metal". Well get back in line, I listen to sonic booms from flying jets and space shuttle launches both at close distance live in concert, my ear drums have never recovered, now that's true metal, people who listen to anything else are 3 year olds that haven't grown up and discovered the real heavy music. Might come as a shock, but most people don't judge the quality of music in any genre by how heavy it is. It can still be terrible if it's the heaviest of heavy, and great if it's as "light" as can be.
    If someone personally prefers their metal to be as heavy as possible, and "measure" the quality of it as subjectively good after that, that's completely fine. The problem comes when such a person insists that everything less heavy automatically qualifies as subpar and that what they listen to is the pinnacle of music and has to constantly say/type it out it to validate their superior musical taste and downplay everyone/everything else, that's just called being an elitist douche.
    'Note that this is not a jab at the video itself or anyone in particular, it's more of a general statement.'

      Alexander MR I don't think it's that bad of record. I love the guitar tone, and Cory Taylor's vocals are fucking great on that record. I've always enjoyed the way taylors voice transition from his heavy growl to his cleans. I mean it's not really that heavy of a record or anything lol, but I still enjoy it and think it's one of the better things to come out of the whole nu metal thing. But there are some pretty terrible tracks that just have no appeal to it but it's an alright record in my opinion.

    I love the fact that the whole album represents. The struggles of the death of Paul Grey, they don't need to be menacing. They don't need to be how they always were, I'd rather have a good band create different stuff. they make a wide variety of concepts and emotions. I've felt a ton of different feeling and emotion in the songs.

    Who cares? I listen to anything from 80's pop to Meshuggah, and I still really enjoyed this record. Do I agree with this review? No. Does that make either me or Bananthony wrong? No. His view on the album is just different to mine (though I do wish he reviewed it better, he only really covered like 4 songs briefly) People have different tastes in music, you guys need to get off your high horse.

      ***** Metalheads can be the edgiest of hipsters at times, if your music doesn't reach a certain level of underground then you're labeled a 12 year old poser. I honestly feel bad for people who can't appreciate music for what it is and has to turn it into a pissing contest.

    • @MusicisLife1121

      *****
      Yea. you basically just proved his entire point. And THAT quote is actually nothing more than a generalization based off someone who sees music as some kind of competition rather than an art form. Now please enlighten me about how fake I am for being an open-minded objective person simply because it is contrary to your personal tastes and overall perception of music. dying to hear it.

    • @Ballstik

      What's "edgy" mean?

    • @MusicisLife1121
      @MusicisLife1121 9 років тому +1

      -_- yes dude, that was my point. Just because music "tastes" are subjective doesn't necessarily mean that someone that attempts to approach it in an objective way is 'trying to dictate what is good or bad'. btw, who said ANYTHING about it being a fact?? now your just putting words in my mouth. Whether that's because of your general dislike of my approach or not is irrelevant because you're still ignorant for labeling objective views on music as "immature self-interest". You're all about labels and comparisons - see, I can put words in people's mouth as too! c'mon man...

    • @MusicisLife1121
      @MusicisLife1121 9 років тому

      Right. And for you to assume that someone who attempts to be objective must be automatically trying to state their opinion as fact rather than simply making an observation, is STILL ignorant. By coming to this conclusion, you are assuming that you KNOW what makes a song good or bad and are also suggesting that you know what suits my tastes without even knowing who I am. And you're right: objective means you are not influenced by personal feelings, opinions when representing facts...here's the issue, YOUR STANCE CANNOT BE CONSIDERED AS FACT EITHER. not only that, but just because you disagree with my approach doesn't mean you can somehow subvert my opinion into bias simply because you 'personally' feel that your tastes/opinion has more credence than mine. I appreciate the research you did, but you aren't telling me anything that I don't already know

    I see a lotta comments who say "After listening this group or this band, why would you go back to Slipknot ?"
    Because music is not a leveling contest.
    You listen what you like, not what's the most hardcore or some shit like that.
    You listen the music who's making you emotional, in any way. Angry, happy, sad, delighted, whatever the feeling.
    I think that Slipknot has, on this wonderful album, gave the definition of "Controlled rage". They know what to say and how, being fucking angry against anything but not without reason. It's like a mental breakdown after you discover one of your friend dead in his bedroom after an overdose. You feel lost, depressed, furious, everything at the time and sometimes you're making some serious mistakes. You're hurting yourself, you're drinking, making yourself as high as you can be. But them, those motherfucking guys found a way to express their loss without hurting people or themselves. They threw up their rage right in front of us and said "Taste it and tell me how you feel into your heart."
    I love this album, even if it's not a pure core one, or a fucking doomy one. I love it because they extinguish my rage and frustration. Because they're very good musicians and composer, and even if I let go of them a long time ago, they found me again.

In order to appreciate those genres you need to know their heritage/significance and immediately when you take that approach you see Slipknot as what it is: an easily accessible starter band. The stuff I listen to now would’ve blown my 11 year-old mind or just sounded like noise. I respect Slipknot or getting me into metal but I have no reason to listen to one of their songs again.

      Slipknot is also kinda far from being my first metal band, I've heard metal/rock as far as I can remember (that wasn't Slipknot) and I love Slipknot more nowadays compared to when I first started hearing their stuff.

    Just like Anthony, I was once a major Slipknot fan back in their self-titled and Iowa days, and just like Anthony, I've since over the years gravitated towards more extreme genres, such as Death Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore, Doom, Sludge, etc. But I've always held a certain respect for Slipknot, not only as (mostly) talented musicians, but as a wonderful gateway band for people to discover heavier and more aggressive styles of music, as a lot of Slipknots earlier material contains elements of many heavier styles within their sound. I've read many times that during the time period between the self-titled and Iowa, they were taking a lot of influence from Death Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore and Thrash, and combining elements of all those genres with their Alternative Metal/Nu-Metal style, as well watching interviews where band members spoke of Nasum, Absu, Morbid Angel and Acid Bath as influences on their sound (Plus, Joey Jordison once toured North America with Satyricon when Frost couldn't get into the country because of passport issues). That being said, I most certainly can understand how somebody may not enjoy Slipknots music. It's not for everybody. The angst, and some of the lyrics can sometimes be a little much. But I still get a kick out of a lot of their old material, though, and still respect them as artists. Maybe if I hadn't gotten into Slipknot all those years ago, I wouldn't have discovered all the great bands and genres I enjoy today. Regardless, that's just my two cents, hahaha

The dramatic sad and some of the more unusual tracks might've been someone of his ideas before passing away. Furthermore, the album was a way for the band's respective grief to flow unchallenged. whilst yes its not overly memorable. in the context the album was written it should've gotten more than a 4 out of respect. i do not agree with this review.

      This is what happened: teen Anthony loved Slipknot. Then high school graduate Andy went to college. There he met a bunch of people who laughed at his peasant taste when he said he liked Slipknot. "No", they said, "here is REALLY good music". And some of it WAS good music that he hadn't been introduced to before. But instead of both accepting new music into his life and standing up for his old music against the "smart set", college Anthony caved because he wanted to fit in with his, as he saw it, intellectual betters. Also, college girls are generally not into Slipknot, so he had to show a more sensitive side if he wanted to get laid. Basically, college Anthony adopted the way of thinking that the "oh-so-hip" kids he met had: that Slipknot was gauche, especially (gasp!) their lyrics,, which were often "problematic". Basically, Anthony turned into kind of a douche.

There's a certain catharsis in (safely) giving into the juvenile rage those albums have from time to time. Vol. 3 is transitional. I do recommend All Hope is Gone; it's a solid album. I mean, Phil Anselmo's vocals to me especially give off the vibe of those kinds of bands.

    • @Floral_Green
      @Floral_Green 9 років тому +4

      I never really saw Pantera in the same vain as Slipknot; one's a well-respected all-American Metal act that helped develop the genre, one's entry-level 'heavy' music.. although I do believe Slipknot were one of the better bands to come from the Nu-Metal movement. Also, I've always thought Anselmo's vocals were more Southern Rock sounding, plus Pantera have a lot more groove. Hell, I have the riff from 'Walk' creeping into my head as I type this.

      Metallica were not the first ones with that problem. It's actually a pretty recurring problem in metal, because some guitar players like their guitars with way too much bottom end, and end up taking the space of the bass (and sometimes also leave a pretty big gap of mid range frequencies empty). I for one am more of a fan of the way Kurt Ballou from Converge does that sort of thing. He actually keeps his guitars mainly in the mid range, allowing them to not be too distorted while still being really heavy and then all of the bottom end goes to the bass, which is divided between a cleaner bass amp and a more overdriven guitar amp. If you take a listen to some of the latest Converge albums, you'll notice that what makes the songs sound so heavy are the drums and the bass and not the guitars.

      Andre Isidro "If you take a listen to some of the latest Converge albums, you'll notice that what makes the songs sound so heavy are the drums and the bass and not the guitars." That's how Hardcore Punk, before and after Converge is dude. As opposed to the Death, Black, Thrash genres of Metal where it's just GuitarGuitarGuitar, in HxC/Punk the guitar often compliments the drum and bass instead of crowding over it.

      SuperMario16bit Sure! And the reason I mentioned Converge was because I'm more into hardcore than into metal, but still, not only Converge has a lot of metal elements to it, but Kurt also uses the same kind of techniques in most metal bands e produces, like Skeletonwitch, or Kvelertak.

    I would think "growing up" and realizing that your teen self was a bit of a blockhead would cause you to reevaluate your dismissal of Vol. 3. Yet you seem to hold on to your teenaged notion that metal bands are not allowed to do reflective or sorrowful music unless it's at 180 beats per minute. You should surely realize by now that AGGRESSION is only one facet of a man and that a complete person has a myriad of feelings. A band is simply a collection of people, so I think you should be a bit more willing to allow diversity in output from musicians. Changing the dynamics with each song, having actual peaks and valleys throughout an album, is just smart record-making. And if you give Carly Rae Jepsen's trite pop an 8, then it's kind of hard to take any other rating that you give seriously.

      Joe Como It's not that he doesn't like sorrowful music, it's that he thinks slipknot is bad at that. Plus pop and metal albums have completely different standards of quality.

      Except I'm not talking about "nu metal", I'm talking about a specific album from a specific band. Go and listen to Slipknot Vol. 3. Besides the usual, hardcore, yes, aggressive stuff, there's also quieter, contemplative songs. It surprised me, especially after the rawness of their first 2 albums. That's why Vol. 3 was a successful album to me.

      Joe Como Anthony does allow bands to diversify their sound. He just thinks slipknot doesn't do soft well. For example, when he reviewed bones' uselesss, he praised the pummeling unrelenting bass and the bloodcurdling screams and said that that song went hard af. Then in the same review of the same album, he said one of the songs was really pretty, dainty light music. Another example is his review of deafhaven's sunbather. He liked both their fast black metal shrieked vocal songs and their pretty piano acoustic instrumental songs.

    @ElectricBluePresents 9 років тому +11

    One thing I don't get from seeing the comments - Slipknot is apparently just for angry 15 year olds, but bands that explore the same musical themes in an even heavier way are mature? Nah, just because heavier bands are out there doesn't effect Slipknot at all. Its the same with Dragonforce...people think they're just for kids, but I didn't just drop listening to them for Rings of Saturn because they play even faster. Personally, I think Rings of Saturn are far too over the top, similarly to how I like Slipknot but not Cannibal Corpse. It's all about personal taste, not just the stereotypical emotions of age that define one's likeness of a band, or where they are on the "heavy" or "fast" spectrum. Slipknot and Dragonforce have a style that speaks to me.

    • @BassbaitGG
      @BassbaitGG 9 років тому +3

      Here's the progression of age coinciding with music taste - Slipknot ---> Cannibal Corpse ----> Between the Buried and Me ----> Jazz ----> Slipknot.
      I'm just using those things as examples, but basically, people start off with something immature, then they find a more extreme version of that immature thing. Then they find a more mature version of that extreme thing. Over time people start to feel like they've outgrown the gateway bands and then they find their way back to them. I used to think Metallica was awesome, then I hated them, and now I think they're awesome. Eventually when people actually do mature, they're willing to admit "I like Slipknot!" or in my case "I like Metallica!" When you're mature you can like Korn or Weird Al or pop music or Jazz or Extreme Metal or experimental stuff and it doesn't matter because you are mature enough to accept something for what it is instead of rejecting it for what it isn't. Also funny story my friend from high school is in Rings of Saturn. I also don't really care for their music.

      "Heavy" doesn't mean anything.

    • @BassbaitGG
      @BassbaitGG 9 років тому

      Inline Downhill Vancouver
      Any word means whatever you want it to. If you define heavy in music terms as "slow and low" as my family does, then the heaviest song would be pretty terrible. If you define it as dynamics of aggressive/intense music as I do, then the heavier bands around would be something like Between the Buried and Me, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, etc. If you choose not to define it then nothing is "heavy".

    • @InlineDownhillVancouver
      @InlineDownhillVancouver 9 років тому

      BassbaitGG
      That's quite an astute description of the two styles that people define "heavy" as being with regard to music. "If you define heavy in music terms as 'slow and low' as my family does, then the heaviest song would be pretty terrible." This is also quite astute. However, you failed to apply the same logic to your description of aggressive and intense. If one defines the heaviest music as "slow and low," it becomes a constant sub frequency murmur. If one defines the heaviest music as aggressive and intense, the heaviest music would devolve/evolve into a constant noise. " If you choose not to define it then nothing is 'heavy'." Of course and that's my point; everyone is correct, so it's a pointless discussion. It's subjective and it doesn't mean anything. "Hey, I put this sine wave through my rig and it's so much heavier than Slipknot."
      "Any word means whatever you want it to." With regards to the word "heavy" in the context of our discussion here, yes, but mostly no.

    • @BassbaitGG
      @BassbaitGG 9 років тому

      Inline Downhill Vancouver Actually you're wrong about the last part. Words mean whatever you want them to mean but communication with others is relative to a mutual understanding. Connotation proves this point as many people can see negative implications in words that have an agreed upon denotative meaning but different connotations depending on the audience or speaker. We have to all agree upon terms to discuss anything and language barriers are the ultimate problem in any discussion that has them. The only reason we can even talk to each other right now is because we both agree to use English. But while heavy has a definition in the dictionary, it also has been agreed upon as a term to use for music. There is no music term dictionary besides music theory which doesn't extend that far. As a result "heavy" is a slang term and the "heavy" bands are whatever the individual wants them to be. I didn't define aggressive or intense because my definition of heavy wasn't relevant to the point I was making so I summarized.
      Either way semantics arguments are mostly worthless except to break up the language barrier and since you don't define heaviness as a musical term and since I define it in a different way than many people would, there's really not much of a discussion to be had here. So, how's the weather?

    I started my metal journey with AC/DC and went all the way up to Suicide Silence and Cannibal Corpse so let me tell you this: level of 'hardcore' and 'meaness' in metal does not make metal song good. I, for once, found that blending good melody into metal songs is a good and rare talent. That is why I love We Butter The Bread With Butter and Dir En Grey
    . I found that, sadly, the more extreme vocals the song has, the worse it gets since bands trade good melody and good composition for heavy hits that exist only as a build up for breakdown with extreme screaming all over the place. As far as my money goes, Slipknot never failed to make me feel pumped up and ready to beat someone up while offering good melody with quality 'hits'. I think that they are, easily, one of the best metal bands ever. Mostly because they don't give a fuck about trends and do their own thing.

    I agree with pretty much all of Anthony's reviews except this one. I think Slipknot is absolutely amazing both in terms of guitar, drums, vocals etc as well as trying to involve Sid on the turntables more and more, as to create a certain atmosphere (like in Be Prepared For Hell and If Rain Is What You Want), rather than just create that cliche scratching sound. Not their best record, which in my opinion would be either Iowa or All Hope is Gone, but I love the direction that they're beginning to go in. And in the end, the fact that they've put out a pretty diverse range of content in the past just leaves their next move to be that much more unpredictable.
    Just my opinion man. Keep up the good work.

    Super glad to hear you opinion on this one Anthony :) I am still a huge fan of the band and this album lit up my nostalgia. I'm diggin through their discography all over again! I appreciate your opinion because I know how much this band influences my own songwriting and I have a feeling you wouldn't like what I do, but I appreciate your nods towards "safe-writing" and "safe-production". I never really considered doing something truly adventurous outside lyrics, but I'll keep in mind your view. I like to compose radio-friendly music but I want it to be able to reach a wide audience - Pop music with some "balls" ( because I also want to reach out to the more "eclectic" types of listener) and what you say helps me to know how much "audacity" I should pour in.

    I liked this album the first time I heard it but I haven't had the urge to listen to it much after that. A lot of fans wanted them to release another Iowa, and this seems to be a decent enough effort at that, but it still falls short if it was a definite effort to return to their "old sound". If they do have it in them to release another record, I'm hoping they move forward and try to make something experimental and different... That's what I think made their debut and Iowa so great, I hadn't heard anything like that before and that's what intrigued me.

      If an album does what it sets out to do well, irrespective of what you feel about it, it should be judged a good album - if you are judging at all.

      Chirodip Basu This has nothing to do with taste. If more hardcore music exists, then it exists no matter what you like. I already explained this, was never talking about taste.

      yeah the problem is what it sets out to do isn't that impresive...therefore its not a good album, it like saying a miley cirus album is good becouse it did what it sat out to do

      No. Extreme Metal is OBJECTIVELY heavier than this musically speaking. And ignoring perceptions of a band’s older material is the same ideology that led to St. Anger

    I was surprised by this review. I agree with what you talked about through most of the video (their old stuff) but I felt like this was a really awesome return to form. I thought it had just enough aggression, as well as variety, and I love a lot of the riffs on this thing. I think it's a killer album. I was hoping you would have talked about more of the songs, but I guess that's hard to do if you're not feeling it.

    honestly i think this is a great album i love the mix of the screaming vocals and dark slow grasping lyrics that only corey taylor can do honestly i think this album is a testament to the insane vocal range of corey taylor and far as the killpop style lyrics go id say its what slipknot dose best dont get me wrong the first two albums was amazing iowa is my favorite and you talk about that style of vocals like it didnt exist until the subliminal verses but it very much did just take left behind or my plague for example lefet behind had these main parts that was very singing style with a chorus that was screaming and my plague had main parts that was screaming that went to singing choruses and far as saying that the turntables was tasteless and outdated is fucking insane its one of the unique things about slipknot because with each album the turntables got more advanced to the point that you cant tell its turntable anymore its it own thing and its deferentially not outdated considering the fact that there one of the few metal bands STILL using turntables like tell me where the fuck did limp bizkit go but what ever this is just my opinion tho im not saying this crap to start a argument just putting my opinion into it like a civilized person lol
