Hello Max! Thank you for making awesome videos and for taking the time to voiceover other videos for English-speaking viewers!
When you speak of Chaga tea, are you speaking of the Chaga mushroom? I am curious about what other mushrooms someone can find in Karelia. Have you seen any fly agaric mushrooms in Karelia?
I have spent time in different natural areas but have never built anything like your cabin, tools or other projects. I have felt the transition of fading societal expectations as the pressure of survival rushes in.
Also, I find it interesting that you sometimes read old books to make experiments, create solutions and new ideas. There is a lot of missing information when relying on the internet to research. It is satisfying to see you execute plans, share the result and what you appreciate about it.

I spent a year living in a tent, hitching around the country, and while I was in Vancouver I'd catch my supper every night off the sea wall. I used a cheap $5 kiddie rod from a discount store to do it, and all the hobbyist fishermen with their fancy thousand-dollar Japanese hand-crafted bamboo or carbon fibre rods would visibly sneer in contempt. Dudes, the _fish_ don't know or care how much you paid for your gear, and I caught just as many fish as they did.

I saw something similar. Next to my yacht club is another, and every year they have a fishing contest. Lots of guys show up with their sport fishing boats, high dollar rods, and lots of electronics. A number of years ago the guy who won was a grandfather with two of his grand kids. They were on a sailboat! And they were using inexpensive rods from a discount department store. Lots of people were pissed but we were just laughing.

Growing up we spent a lot of time up in the mountains of upstate NY, we had a stream full of trout but we caught them when they were hiding in the roots of trees next to the river. My cousins thought I was crazy when I started throwing them on the bank of the river, then I cleaned them and cooked them. We had so much fun, that's what this video reminds me of, the simple pleasures of life, thanks!

... of course cooking trout over an open fire in the woods is sure to attract a bear. This can be very dangerous. So I made a much thicker string out of a heavy duty industrial container and placed snares on the incoming trails. One day, it happened. When the bear got caught, the snare held him there. I fed the bear trout over a 3 day period and I gained his respect and trust. On the 3rd day I fed him till he was full. I was able to then remove the snare without him attacking and he went on his way. :) LOL Joking aside - I love your videos.

The way you prepare those false morels is considered deadly in Finland. According to our common knowledge false morels need to be parboiled at least twice before consuming them, since the poison in the mushrooms can only be eliminated by dissolving it into water. It seems that we are overly cautious with them, because you are probably still alive :D Actually Russians taught us how to eat mushrooms, hence Russians tend to have more traditional knowledge about preparing mushrooms.

A recommendation for the fish. After you clean it and remove the guts, you can stick aromatic herbs inside (In Thailand they use lemongrass/basil) and then stitch the stomach shut with fiber (grass). The herbs steam the fish from the inside and make it especially delicious.
