Rape was a joke back then. Marrying your rapist, showing a rapist to be a godly man just because he marries the woman is unimaginable and disgusting. What was the society thinking by romanticising rape in movies. It makes me sick. Also the scene with Anushka Shetty is so annoying to watch. I'm a huge Anushka fan but the way she was been felt in that movie, It is so uncomfortable to watch.
Your point is right , but society ki mentality v whi thi , to sympathize rapist and victim shame victim , by putting a narrative that somehow her own youth is responsible for this
@@swatipriya562 💯💯💯
Anuskha Shetty . Paisa ka chakkar babu bhaiya . Paisa ka chakkar
I doubt Anushka felt uncormfortable about it tbh, she was having an affair with gopichand anyways. It's still a disturbing scene though.
Cringe can be created but it cannot be destroyed and it changes from one form to another (film to tiktok/reels) - Law of conservation of Cringe
7 CRORE!!!!!!
😂😂
Can also destroy brain cells of a population.
😂😂😂
@slayer Bro every old school is not cringe. Stop micro judging every thing though Hollywood and modern Woke Gen Z lenses
This was the most disturbing "Matlab Kuch bhi" episode for me.
WTF was wrong with the Movie Makers!!!!
"Kuch bhi" is an understatement - This was an abomination
Ikr It was too depressing.
Romanticism of rape is just beyond every sense🙂
To even think that romanticising rape, molestation or even eve teasing by heroes was pretty much accepted back then appals and horrifies me. But keeping everything aside, Jammy, you reading these absurd lyrics as if you're reading a newspaper just cracks me up everytime! 😂😂❤❤
To think that an entire generation grew up enjoying and celebrating these films💀
hooting and cheering at the abuse, its pretty insane when you look back!
@@TriedRefusedProductions It has not changed much as during TJMM climax, I heard a group of youngsters passing really misogynistic comments when the film was giving a good message about woman working even after marriage
@@TriedRefusedProductions These kind movies are ones that actually promoted assault on weaker gender in our society leading to the situation today
Just a thought
We were so innocent and honest back then too.
Yess and now they are torturing our generation
I usually have a good laugh when I watch your Matlab kuchh bhi series. Today I was cringing the whole time wondering how toxic cinemas can be....
you made it through! I think in the guise of comedy we often get by but its important to acknowledge the uncomfortable and problematic too with sincerity
@@TriedRefusedProductions Oh absolutely!! And you are doing a fabulous job!!!
Can't agree more, that was such an uncomfortable experience going through these absurdities snd wondering what kinda crap filled, minds green light these things
People like you are his targetted audience
‘Matlab Kuch Bhi’ is an archive of iconic media we should preserve at all costs.
Hands down the most bizarre moment in cinema history is definitely the one where the mother puts 'nashe ki goli' in her daughter's milk to get her impregnated by the con-husband. OOF!
LIKE WHAAAAAAT
Con husband?
Yes..it’s coolie No 1 in telugu

@@TriedRefusedProductionsWe understand Jammy has infused the tfi into him wen he addresses Bala Krishna as ballayya 😅 .. Jai ballayya ✊🏻🤭 . Long way to go 🥳
@@dr.vanimadhuri0212 Balayya is an emotion
@@sweetyforever1876his name is Anil Ravipudi
That last movie(Abhimanyu) is really far from reality. In reality the victim would want her rapist to go to jail or get severely punished but she will never say that she want to marry her rapist in order to protect her honour(yeah that's will be their reason to marry lol)
This really feels like the director and the crew wanted to justify rape and misogyny, in those days which is really sad. I am glad that the audience have been matured and would have been heavily criticized for justifying rape which happened to the movies like Ismart shankar and Sarileru Neekevvaru
One more thing that gets on my nerves is that they show it as if the sin is not the assault committed by the rapist, but the girl 'losing her honor" which somehow make its her fault. Like what
That waist groping scene is so f***in' uncomfortable to watch.
Being a victim of such abuse, it traumatizes me more...
😖
How TF can someome even think of it as romance!?!
and its presented with a comedy bgm. A sign of being flirtatious and funny. NAH huge red flag!

If possible please get Anil Kapoor for an interview and ask him about all his machoistic roles (Bulandi, Benaam badshah, ladla, Abhimanyu etc etc) and what was he thinking then and how he perceives it now, will be pretty interesting.
must Interview both director and Actor then
Paise ka chakkar Babu bhaiya paise ka chakkar
Actors are actually just pawns, they have almost no saying specially if they are new comers. Directors and writers are the real culprit here.
@@riyankachakraborty7377Yes that was hard time for Indian cinema.
Even Amitabh did questionable or low movies back then. Difficult economic times and back benchers cinema that time.
It was Qayamat se Qayamat tak that changed the Indian cinema forever. People forget that.
'Ente Upasana' is regarded as a top notch film in terms of acting but it still makes me feel nauseated to think that such a terrible assault was treated as some small wrongdoing on the part of Mammukka Sir's character and Suhasini Ma'am 's character had to endure so much only to give in to what society expects a single mother to do and conform to rather than live life boldly on her own terms. It's hightime Actors spoke about these atrocious scenes and things made to do by them in the name of art🙏
I was so young watching the movie for first time and still felt it to be wrong.
@@aparnajyothisuresh632 Same here dear 🙏😑Totally empathize with you dear Aparna. They tried so hard to make his character lovable (n to an extent it worked)But the shock one feels when she says yes and goes on to live with him and their son is tremendous especially the moment you realise that she's just taken on her rapist as her life partner which is wrong on every level.
Such talent - acting, writing, directing - wasted, with a disturbing climax 😢

@@moinuddinsyed66tthat anuska movie, How can someone feel sorry for a woman with a rappist mind? Don't justify saying she was drunk or she didn't rappe him she only said she wanted to rappe or anything like that. Getting rapped or getting pinched, which is the most heinous crime? And you gonna act like it's normal to sneak into a man's house like a thief ? The rappist got pinched because she put herself in that position, so let's stop acting like she's the victim here. The punishment was well deserved, it would've been worse if he exposed her to house members, but still I don't think they'll beat her for sneaking into the house since she is a woman, that's a kind of female privilege that femininsts will never acknowledge. And about that Sharukh Khan's song, that lady probably had stranger sex fantasy, that's why she was singing like that, one must be really crazy to think a woman would happily sing about being assualted. Mr coolie, im my opinion, the girl who falsely accused of rappe should be given equal punishment that a rappist is given because it ruins the man's whole life, reputation and the shame he faced. Feminists like jammy do not care about false accusation cases, they don't think its a big deal. Alot of his matlab kuch bi is so stressful to watch because of his bias. I'm not justifying such men either, theyr wrong but the women are also wrong, but the way he narrates this, you can tell he only cares about women.
@@Universal5-g5e Ofcourse he has biases. He pointed out "harassment against men is often passed as comedy".
jammy this episode was tough to sit through . Made me very uncomfortable.More power to you and please bear through more of these to give us content
always! I know the latter half is tough to sit through but a tough pill to swallow regarding what was normalised back in the day!
I felt the same, very uncomfortable to watch.
Were you comfortable watching "Thu jhoothi mein makkar"? Because it had scenes of Shraddha beating Ranbir which people like Jammy acts like it's normal.
@@truth_seeker5 first of all i am sorry I don't remember that scene which you mentioned but how does your argument link with me or jammy being uncomfortable watching films normalising marrying your rapist
Being a member of a film society in an engineering college, I can claim we wrote better scripts than Coolie no. 1😂😂😂
@kochikame363 okk so what family audience of India should watch pathan
@slayer *denk ban gaye bhai aap toh
Neither Pathan Nor Bahubali.. Both are over rated just like those sevlon bhoi movies
That's not a much of a huge hurdle; I am pretty sure my 8th grader sister can come up with a better script in like an hour....
@@Universal5-g5e I actually thought Anushka wanting to rape him as revenge, it being portrayed lightly and in a comidic way, then getting groped and falling in love like they're soul mates was a Matlab Kuch bhi aspect in total. But yeah, I agree, an attempted rape is much much much worse than that rapist being not exposed by the victim and slightly groped, you can't portray them as equal. Similarly, in Coolie No.1, her getting drugged and raped was as bad as him getting arrested for false rape accusations. Jammy is a bit bias against men, as some of his Matlab Kuch bhi moments are taken out of context and the film itself is saying that they're wrong. Indian films in general has a far greater influence by the patriarchy, but that doesn't mean where females are wrong you have to call them right. But on his defence, he did talked about Four More Shorts Please and criticised it, for it's toxic feminism.
Wow.. Thank you for mentioning Ente Upasana.. I had written about this one on one of your previous Matlab Kuch Bhi segments... And Abhimanyu was a revelation.. I just realized that it's a remake of an extremely popular Tamil movie from the 80s called Sakalakala Vallavan starring Kamal Hassan! KH himself has "cringed" in some of his interviews about acting in this movie 😂
I have one more "gem" for you.. Thimiru (Tamil) starring Vishal and Reema Sen.. Absolutely bizzare plot (but was huge hit).. The heroine tries to stop this abusive antagonist Easwari (played by Sriya Reddy) and inturn is kind of humiliated by Easwari who disrobes the heroine in the middle of the street. She is saved by the hero (who offers her clothes to cover her up) and falls in love with him. The hero in turn abuses the antagonist by disrobing her (😫) and giving a speech about "moral values in women".. So Easwari (the antagonist) falls in love with the hero as well and becomes obsessed with him! 🤪 pls pls pls check this one out.. 😂 this just screams to be in a mkb episode!
5:17 Ok but Tabu looks fabulous! She had some underrated ‘90s fashion moments on screen.
K. Raghavendra Rao and his obsession with fruits is something else man 😂.
This man has used almost every single fruit in his films
It's passed off as his aesthetic but I suspect there is some kink in it too
@@TriedRefusedProductions Yes. The man has some serious fruit fetish
i think he ran a juice shop in his past life 🍉
@@TriedRefusedProductions He's a miserable man in real life. The way this director r*ped and mistreated Ramya Krishna, and kept her as a s*x slave... every heroine including Ileana mentioned how traumatized they were with being hit on the waist with hard fruits... He's a bad man. And should not be revered as a tollywood top notch director.
9:13 Coincidentally, I was watching a small budget almost forgotten movie called "Do Boond Pani" (1971) a few hours ago and was thinking how surprisingly progressive that movie was when it came to sexual assault victims compared to most mainstream Indian movies. Come to think of it, I have actually watched some small budget movies (for example, a really half-baked movie called "Sweekar" from 1973) which have a better attitude towards such things.
Edited to fix grammar.

0:45 Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani was a mix of twilight and TVD, actually. they had a whole thing about the characters being reincarnations of their older versions like The Vampire Diaries did. although I guess you could say that's a trope, especially with Indian media but still, Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani was definitely a mix of both twilight and TVD if I'm remembering the show correctly.
My mother was so into that show at that time 😂
I attributed that to just being an indian soap trope of rebirths and reincarnations but you do have a point. PKYEK was hugely popular tho: I wonder what happens with the DESI TVD
It was hugely popular at its time
@@TriedRefusedProductions Would you do a critical analysis of the Star One shows which were supposedly unconventional when compared to saas bahu shows?
Taapsee Pannu talking about her experience with being romanced with Coconuts on screen will never not be iconic.
SHE was heavily trolled for the same too! Sadm that one can't even make a harmless joke about it
This video makes me appreciate as to how far we have come in addressing r*pe in cinema as well as our society. Cinema is a reflection of our society, and these movies will always serve as a reminder of how our society functioned. Just the thought of r*ping a woman or falsely accusing a man of r*pe as if that's some secret KO move is disgusting.
Honestly- people still hype up kabir singh's character. So I would say it hasn't progressed much
I was funnily shocked watching Shauryam back when it was released on how Anushka acted in such a role. I felt that’s the kind of roles she might be seen in future. But glad I was wrong and now her choice of movies and her roles have made her superstar 🎉
One definitely looks back at some of their earlier films in shock and embarrassment. I am sure its true across the board. The importance is to change the tide and perception when you have some influence!
Anushka also acted in another movie called “Okka Mogaadu” in Tollywood. That too was a bad movie and she was panned for her role.
Yes She indirectly criticised her past directors for all these cringe 😬 in OHRK program which is trimmed.
She said the story narration is different and making is completely different. Haa she had a series of 7 flops but Arundathi changed her career
My god that abhimanyu story narration was mayhem😅
INSANITY URMILA, insanity!
Oh Rape Culture in 80s and 90s Malayalam movies are countless. There is a Malayalam movie Adhipan starring Mohanlal - a legal drama with the hero fighting a case to get his sister married to her rapist.
MY EYES! MY EYES! it just does not end, does it!
@@TriedRefusedProductions Most Malayalam movies before the new wave (with Salt N Pepper and the likes post-2010) were deeply misogynistic and thrived on rape culture. "Kidnapped/Forced Marriage" was a comedic trope in Priyadarshan movies. Actors like Dileep & Jayaram made a fortune from these "family entertainers" where women are constantly shown their place with slaps, vicious rape jokes, and in some cases actually raping.
@@nchl5340 Not only Malayalam.. Almost all indian film industries were like that..

These movie were celebrated at that time is really a proof that how fucked up the mentality of people was at that time and this is so sad
Coolie no.1 was directed by Raghavendra Rao who is considered a legend in Telugu cinema. But I am sure you will find many cringe worthy scenes/songs in almost all his films ( Including the 2 devotional films which he directed). I still couldn't believe how those scenes and songs in his films passed the censor!

I think at that time society also used to think like that & hence movies were also justifying and celebrating these absurd logics.
Sometimes, movies are the exact reflection of what a society (mostly) thinks.

Udaykrishna's solo writings include the commercial hit Pulimurugan, Masterpiece, Aarattu, and the recent debacles Monster and Christopher. From the Christopher posters to even in the movie, Mammootty wasn't happy all the time, just being dull, angry whole movie.Mamootty being in home runs like Puzhu, Rorschach, Bheeshma Parvam and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, he wasn't happy with Christopher, his attitude was like-I don't care about the output of this movie 😅😅
It's so bad to see that media has done such bad with women's charecterisation and it still continues to an extent to be honest. In such times, to be a man who wants to strike a respectful friendly bond with the counter gender , I can see from where the trust issues are coming in from.
This is not funny but I feel ashamed.

As kids we used to hum the songs from 'English Babu Desi Mem' in the 90's .. the lyrics of the song goes something like this "..abhi abhi solah (16 yrs) baras ki hui.. abhi se hi mere peeche pad gaye sabhi.. kaun hai jo lutega jawani meri.."
It can't get more cringey and sexist than this!
Abhimanyu as it turns out, is a remake of Sakala kala vallavan, a Kamal Hassan film. Apart from a couple of fantastic songs, the film is a shameful reminder of the Mad Men days where everything patriarchal sold. Mr. Anil Kapoor has not left even such a film, and promptly remade it !
Maturity is when you realise that ‘Chane Ke Khet Mein’ had some disturbing lyrics.
Also songs like Are pritam pyare where lyrics goes like " pallu niche chupa ke rakha hai uthado to hungama ho "
I am sure every decade has such masterpieces to offer and had audiences watching them. Having logic in entertainment is a great expectation but being able to be entertained even without the slightest inkling of logic is what the 80s - 90s kids have learnt from movies. It's an art that never seizes to surprise me. I wouldn't say I am proud of it but there have been times when I myself was ok if it was the Hero who is a rapist who gets forgiven in the end and all goes well contrary to the villain in the same place.
The portrayal of women in movies as embodiments of sacrifice, forgiveness and unconditional love is beyond words. Not to forget movies till date are made with major target audience as those who love the cringe and logicless plots that can merely entertain them.
This is the first time that, I couldn't watch the complete video.
I hope to find some funny cringe moments in the next video....
Kudos to Jammy for going through the torture of watching these movies to make this video.
I watched that Rani mukherjee film 'raja ki aayegi baraat' and thought how did this movie got approved, then some time back I stumbled upon this series from TRP and realised that one film was nothing compared to what was being served as entertainment in 80s-90s
@Tried&Refused Productions, I understand you might find this cringe but the Social Quotient in late 80s ensured the movies were acceptable and celebrated. For example,
The first movie brought the concept of kink and wild fantasies which many introvert males in India fondled about. People felt relatable as they darned to be audacious to act the same manner in real life.
Also, Ente Upasana was remade in Hindi - Bahar Aane Tak.. Have a watch you might see more cringe in Hindi remake.
& if you interested, there is a great director named Mr. Sawan Kumar Tak. Check out his filmography to see more "Matlab Kuch Bhi" :P

Bro films like these are the exact reason why rape and sexual assault is such a big problem in our country. Wtf was the makers or censor board even thinking???? My jaw was on the floor the whole episode. Just when I think things can't get any worse , it does

You should not only see Big Ms movies in Malayalam, but also Dileep's also and put his videos also from movies Mr Marumagan, Mayamohini, Ringmaster.I am wondering whether these movies made Dileep involve in the case or vice versa 😅😅
Also, Shaji Kailas movies, although didn't have over the top action but actually had some great action set pieces and some compelling plots and the writers who worked with him later became directors also like Renjith and Renji Panicker. But his movies like Narasimham, King, Commissioner, Nattu Rajavu(these movies became hits although these are my guilty pleasures also), but his plots and writings are something you should take notice about (male oriented).
Surprisingly there was no Mithun, Govinda or our ultimate king of Matlab Kuch bhi episode 'LORD BALAYYA'🛐
Just a big chi to all these scenes ,movies and writers/directors
big chiiii energy for sure!
I don't know why but many of the dance numbers of that time sounded so wrong. Like mujhko rana ji maaf Karna, Chane ke kheet mein, sarkailo khatiya. And they were like widely celebrated. I have seen even old people in villages dancing to those songs at times of marriage
This is so disturbing! Movies are supposed to educate people & make them better humans. Not promote such heinous crimes!!!
Most of the Indian films (across regional languages including Hindi) are cringey and sexist.
So are the songs.

Loved the interview...Hello Brother.
Jammy I am not a film industry subject matter expert. But what's interesting to me is that movies mafe in the 50s and 60s were so much more classy and dignified than movies in the relatively so called modern Era of the 90s. One thought that I have as to why this might be is perhaps in the 50s 60 all the way to the 70s , filmmakers loved the art. By the time 90s rolled in ,it was all about money. Not the craft.
