Once again great job. My current Empire is observing these creatures. We've decided to not interfere with them for we currently are dealing with our own matters.
I like that these stories seem to be told from the perspective of a random leader giving a briefing to faction leaders or Shadow Council or something. The perspective really does lend a feeling of grandeur that ironically enough I feel is absent from most of these stories in game, where it is all to easy to simply ignore them
I actually played a xenophobic human empire that resembles the one in the video with the same origin and my justification for their xenophobia was because they were influenced by the remnants of their past civilization tho instead of killing their giants they shielded their world in order to preserve them and to return the favour
This is my preferred origin for both of my favorite empires, the story alongside the rather impactful early game nudge in terms of technology and minor artifacts is wonderful. I am so happy you made a video on it!
This one goes great with both the religious rebels as well as the ancient temples one. Still remember my first run with it. I misread some line at some point so thought it was a Mass Effect like situation with them defending from some unknown threat and us being safe since we were primitives. Let's just say my civilization was not ready to learn that *we* were the threat about to be rendered primitive. Wish more origins had event chains.
This was the origin I chose for what became my favorite Empire. It's such a lovely story and I love how it comes full circle. My empire held no ill will and had set up an observation post to passively observe the benefactors, but when an asteroid almost took them out, I decided to dismantle the observation post. My heart couldn't take another event like that.
1 Eon is equivalent to 1 Billion Years, so this means that this Humanoid Species dubbed The Benefactors the masters of the Lizard Race was once part of an Ancient Empire belonging to a First Race or Primordial Race like the ones that created the Galactic Sensor Array in Ultima Vigilis System although a much older unknown enigmatic species. Primordial Empire = Billion Years Old Empire (Canon) Precursor Empire = Million Years Old Empire Fallen Empire = Hundreds of Thousands Years Old Empire Now that's interesting! Next time I should play as them in Primitive Species Mod.

I recently found you and really enjoy the stories. If it were up to me I think I'd let them evolve to the point in which they'd be able to fully comprehend the ramifications and tell them about there history and how it's effected those in which they had contact with, so much as we know anyhow. Thank you for the work that you put into your videos.
I'm with you. I would think they used the device on themselves as penance, and once they reach a point where they can discover what they've done, it can teach them a valuable lesson about the dark paths science can take.
this is by far the best one in my opinion. I started with this origin and uplifted their primitive civilization into an independent empire. Wholesome ending

There is, it may be surprising to many, a real world precedent to mind-wiping like this, though thankfully not on a civilizational scale: the time King Nebuchadnezzar in the Bible got maddened into being like a beast for two years. At about the peak of his reign, he was having some arrogant notions about himself, presumably beyond what he had previously. So to teach him a lesson, God took his wits from him, but told him beforehand that his empire and holdings would be preserved and returned to him after this episode, as if nothing had happened. King Neb seems to have had a better stance towards God and himself after being mindless for a time. How much has this Stellaris origin story been inspired by this ancient account? How many other sci-fi stories have explored the potential implications? Perhaps someone can roleplay as a spacefaring Babylonian empire with this origin, with both the player empire and the Benefactors taking turns in the roles of God and arrogant King Neb.
They're unrelated; The primitive Lizards on Salam were supposed to be the ones to follow the clues and become uplifted by the Benefactors. However, my Empire conquered them before this could happen and followed the clues themselves uncovering the story. Hope that helps.
It has a slightly different viewpoint but is more or less the same story; the version i tell is where you find the Benefactors, the other side is the Relentless but both ended up mind wiped anyway and its only the second half of the story that changes slightly iirc
