Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos. I'm 73 years old and you inspired me to get out sailing more. I have a nice small blue water boat wasn't really using. I've been doing a little Coastal cruising and really enjoying it. If I was a little younger I might be tempted to take off for a little bit farther destinations. But you never know might still yet.. thanks for the inspiration has really helped through the pandemic.
I just turned 68 and have talked myself out owing another boat. I can't see becoming a contortionist at my age. But my adventurist spirit will go on... mostly through Barry's videos. 😁🌴😎
Enjoy your sailing, no matter how far it takes you. I think many of us can relate to your comment. I'm also doing coastal cruising, and beeing located in Norway I have a lot of coast to cruise..... but when I watch the old seadog I can hear the distant shores calling just a little bit louder. Best of luck with your sailing . Regards Jarle
I am 76, just got a Top Hat 25 and I do my best to keep my dreams alive. Never is to late, I wait 50 years for this. To go far perhaps I do it with another oldy just for safety 🙂
@@freetasman2342 Nearing retirement now, I am nearly ready to untie the lines and head for the sunrise in Golden Morn, my 31' wooden classic . . . Persevere, Barry Perrins - you represent all of us solo-sailing sea-dogs (we are in a class of our own).
tip of the hat to the chap who donated that land and the facilities, and to all the people who use it without messing it up. restores a bit of faith in humanity. The council bag system is how we do it in Japan where I live. You have to purchase different bags for your burnables and recyclables and put them out for collection on the appropriate days. It is only a few P and it funds the collection system.
Way to go with your smoking! Was a smoker too until I had my stroke. Couldn't smoke for 7 days in the hospital. They gave me the patch and haven't had a cig for 4 years now. Cheers!
Hi Barry I thoroughly enjoyed your episode at smokehouse bay, myself and a mate donated and built the pizza oven and complex around it. The new breakwater and updated area was accomplished by ten of us volunteers using a 10ton excavator and ten days of hard work , all the materials and the digger were donated also money provided through raffles and donations. From myself personally it was a payback for all the great trips I’ve had there . Keep up the good work Barry I’m enjoying your adventures having owned and lived on a boat for five and half years 👍🍺
Hi Barry, I am now on episode 90 of your adventures and have noticed that you sometimes have a problem doing laundry on the boat while sailing. A good and simple solution is a lockable and watertight (plastic)barrel. You can put your laundry, water and washing powder in it and then you just leave that barrel on the deck or in the cockpit for a day. The rocking does the rest. We think it's a super handy solution. We really appriciate your videos !
Another lovely video! 🤩It seems you found a cruiser's paradise of great fun and comfort, tranquility, and...seagull Charlie! Many thanks for sharing, and fair winds 🌊⛵🌞
Barry, you too can have hot showers aboard your White Shadow! Get yourself a solar shower. Whether it is the bag type or the sprayer can type, you leave it out in the sun for a while and voila, you have a marvelous hot shower, as luxuriously long as you have water to spare. Simply wonderful!
Re the seagull..... my mum befriended and fed many Australian Magpies for many years. Every road trip i took to see my Mum, Dad and my brother I would see Magpies on the side of the highway, like they were making sure i was ok. After my mum passed away, no matter what road trip i was on, i would always see magpies on my route , which meant to me that mum was watching over me. Frank from down under.
I and others started following you for the progress you made over the seas. You're going to lose us with the pizza ovens and laundromats. Please set sail soon. I'd like to stay with you.
Amazing place that had a lot of upgrades during recent years! I remember the time when the bath was standing on the shore without the house, it was a real outdoor bath experience. Cruisers paradise, just like Australia's A Frame at Percy.
Thanks Barry for this latest episode…I always look forward to each new one and in doing so, I’ve come to the realization over the years that I do not have the temperament for a solo voyager like you. I would worry way too much…too much wind, not enough wind, too shallow…too rough…too many boats…too quiet…that’s why I can enjoy your videos where when I feel stressed, I stop, open the refrig and help myself to a cold one…the pause that refreshes…ha😉
CONGRATULATIONS BARRY on your first 100 THOUSAND SUBS ! Very well deserved I might add, I really love your style and look forward to each and every episode. CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h.
@@AdventuresofanoldSeadog Aah But it is I who should be thanking you , for sharing your life , trials and tribulations , showing us a Real look at the life at sea. It's not all bikinis and sunshine . Safe travels
you described the silence brilliantly. First time I visited the South Island I got off the plane in Queens Town and as I walked across the tarmac ,I had this really uneasy feeling, it wasn't till the next morning having a coffee by the lake that the serenity hit me . It was the utter pease that gave that uneasy sense the day before.
A majority of the world population lived in cities or near highways and the din of human made noise is so continuous that they filter it out of their awareness. But when they finally go into a wild area with no man made noise, it creates unease. In my case it created incredible peace - my first experience with it being on hike up a mountain on a windless day in the US state of Virginia at the age of 12 or so. Unfortunately, 50 years later, it is no longer nearly as quiet.
You went through a lot to get here, Barry! You are an accomplished story teller and an amazing v-blogger. We have enjoyed every minute of this world tour. Godspeed, keep the wind at your back and Shaddie will always bring you in safely.
Great to see some Cruising round New Zealand. Smoke House Bay has sure been developed since I was there on Spirit Of New Zealand back in the early noughties. It's a definite on my list of places to go with my own boat Arana.
It was lovely meeting you at Smokehouse Bay Barry. We enjoy following your adventures. You are right about the amazing pizza oven. We have used it for a roast chicken dinner and bread as well as pizzas. Paul and Cathy from Jade River.
Coming from Africa, it's good to see that there are still honest folks on this planet somewhere, restores faith in humanity a bit. Barry, we were scared that you were going to film your hot shower...looking forward to some blue water sailing, friend.
Great to see you Barry - thanks for sharing this amazing spot! What a wonderful gift to the cruising community. I can't believe you didn't take advantage of the outdoor bath! Not very Barry-like. 😁 Congrats on nearly hitting 100K subscribers!
I'm glad to see you out and about Barry. Your videos is always a treat that's worth waiting for. Ve all miss Charlie, and Twoie his deceased brother..... and that other bird that claimed to be able to speak French. Well done Barry. Best of luck on your voyages. Best regards from Jarle
In Canada, on lake superior there is an island group called the slate islands. They also have Spartan cabin, outfittedmfor, the weary boater or fisherman. They have a big cast irontub that you light a fire under and have a bush hot tub. What a nice place Barry. The passage reminds me of our neck of the woods with skinny passages.
Honestly... after 8 years of being subbed to multiple Sailing channels and completely memorised by the lifestyle, Barry is now one of the incredibly few Sailors I get REALLY genuinely excited to see a post from. Barry has stayed true to origin and he's one of the maybe 3 sailors that I still get excited about to see a post from because of the good honest content! Barry will tell you, with no quarms, that hes only at a specific location because others say it "looks good" rather than showing up there purely to "look good". Barry hasn't turned "preachy", he hasn't become an "influencer", he hasn't split up with his brother who was more entertaining than him, nor has he ever transported malignent climate change activists halfway around the world, he hasn't tried to become famous as a pioneer in electric propulsion nor a pioneer for having lots of young girls in bikinis around him or trying to become famous for "no bikini-sh** - just storms" 🤣🤣 Basically... If your into Sailing channels... then this old sea dog is where the action is at!!! Rock on Barry 👍
Fabulous Video love the title, totally enjoyed the little smokehouse camp, I can see us grabbing some ideas from there :) pizza oven is a must! They need a bar though..
Our Balboa didn't have a shower in the head, so I got two 'Hula Hoops', a shower curtain and black plastic 'Sun Shower'. I used tie wraps to attach the curtain to the hoops, tied a rope bridle to the top one and hung the Sun Shower from the line that hauled the bridle up a stay. Gotta keep an eye on it, as the full sun can get the water really hot. But it was roomy, cheap and collapsible...
I’m back in my dreams and thank God. It’s been a rough week. Oh how I wish I was on you boat even if for a little bit. Test after test Dr after Dr is a tole on my life. I need quietness peace and a beer!! You have what I wish I had serenity somewhere!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I've smoked a lot of fish there barry, the washing and showers great as well, and the fishing is incredible. That swing is a mussel buoy. An escapee from a mussel farm
It’s great to catch up Barry!! Love following your adventures!! That was one hell of a great place to chill !! BBQ ,pizza, laundry and a hot shower !! Fair winds ⛵️
I once sailed to windward though man o war passage. on my engineless raven 26. I had a crew, my brother who had been sailing with me a for two weeks so was pretty good with the ropes by now, while I took the helm and called the shots. after we got through he said it was like a movie musket battle "hold, hold, hold... FIRE!" if I had been by myself I would gone around the other side of the island, or just waited another week for a more favorable wind ;)
Wow Barry great to see you still enjoying yourself, still turning out some great adventures of you on your journey keep being safe, im looking forward to seeing more of you sailing ⛵️ 🤙🏾

This video makes me want to finish the boat and start sailing
Winds above 100 knots is classed as cyclonic. Now that will blow the milk out of your tea.
