There are a lot of men with a true moral compass in the world! They unfortunately are the ones who don't make the news! Remember, the media focus on the negative imoral clowns as they Re what people like to hear about aka "the bad boys"
As a builder myself of 40 years, your dad’s workmanship is quite impressive. In a typical house you would see “rough framing” but with your father’s work you see Japanese Timber joinery, beautiful lines and craftsmanship.
Quite impressive? I would say extremely impressive. Amazing to see the Kiwi pioneering spirit of self sufficiency is still alive and kicking ass. We can all see where you got your fantastic work ethic from and drive to make your dreams come true but there is always another challenge to spur you on 🤩
I hope Colin doesn't mind me hopping on an saying this, I've been lucky enough to be a guest in this house a few times through knowing his sister, years ago his dad managed to talk his way into a Japanese carpentry/building apprentice when he was living in Japan with Colins mum, he managed to shortcut the first few years due to building experience (unbelievably rare, never mind being allowed as a foreigner to study it) and this house is built using all those methods, it is a work of art, this video gives very little away, I can sit on the sofa or in bed for hours looking at the exposed joists etc. It's nestled in a bit of paradise and just the most wonderful hosts, and I have been lucky to pick his brain on some woodworking stuff. Definitely planted the seed of an idea to live on the barrier at some point.
What a beautiful country that us kiwis live in, sadly we don't realise how lucky we are. Your whanau is gorgeous and your lifestyle is off the charts, livin' the dream. Blessed and thankful.
Colin, your appreciation for your family has been so refreshing as I watched this episode of Parlay. I come from a large family so I feel a kindred affinity for your story. Life is simply a collection of events strung together over time. Our unique human experience belongs to each of us and yours are a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing!
I am from Puerto Rico. I lived in Oahu, HI and I have seen extremely beautiful rain forests. However, NZ tops all of them!!! So very happy for you Colin and all the people that you inspire. Keep it up. Is always great to see Jamie with you!!!
Awesome of you to point out ‘wealth’! It amazes me to hear how many think your ‘rich’ cause of the nice things you have yet forget to understand that the vast majority of people/families have put many decades of work and effort into the accumulation of what they have.
i have been following Colin from his Below Deck days! I had a gut feeling that he was destined for greatness. His kindness and generosity is genuine as seen by the number of people who are attracted to him. Keep up the great videos Colin. The world needs more people like you!!
You and your siblings really lucked out, I think, having such great folks. You have so much of your dad in you, and it's clear you've done what you've done by following his example. Awesome.
As a septuagenarian myself, I can see the pride your Dad and Mom have for their children. Dad raised honorable men and Mom gave ya the grace that makes you marketable. Well done Mom and Dad! Also great to see Jamie again! He looks fit and well after his eye issues and hopefully his fishing skills got a tweaking as well.
As much as i love the normal style vids, i really enjoy this style. Gives a look into the life of the guy you have been following for so long, and makes you more "real" to us as viewers. Keep up the great content man. You make my sunday routine!
Hi Colin! After hearing the story of your father, I understand now your own courage, strength and time u put into your own boat.. And u never gave up like your dad never did. U follow your dad footsteps to never give up and be a man of your own word
You can see where your work ethic came from! It is the absolutely best gift a man can give his son and it is done by example! It great episode, thank you for sharing!
As a retired builder myself I have a deep respect for your father's vision and attention to detail. It's easy to see where you got your many talents and your mother's good looks 👌
wow, Very impressive video and family you have. Your father is a rockstar with all that he has accomplished. just getting all the supplies up to the house, must have been crazy. The bridge he taught himself to make, blows my mind! Great family! Enjoy!
So nice to find out a bit about your family! What an incredible spread your dad and mum have created, will be a great legacy. Love your videos Colin, and if I was about 20 years younger, I’d try for a spot on Parlay!
Your family home looks amazing. Not many families can say they are as close as you guys. Good to see Jamie and your sister. Can't wait to see the lot of you back on Parlay doing what you do!!
Colin thanks for taking us with you home and meeting your family. And I see where you get your drive and a lot of your skills from.Your parents instilled hard work to you and your siblings.I see your heart and how you got it! Man ! Keep up the good work my brother!
wowo wow wow what am amazing island and so much natural beauty. Love you r family live thank you for sharing your visit with your family. Your Dad is a rock star
Your father and family created an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL HOME. I've been around some beautiful wood work, so I can Truly appreciate the time and compassion that it takes for this Incredible Craftsmanship. I also can appreciate how some may Think you are made of money, but the TRUTH is a Dream, Compassion, Dedication and Family...That Is The True Wealth.
Your dad is amazing! New Zealand is so beautiful, so glad you had a wonderful time with your family! It looks like you had a wonderful childhood and you're living a life that you have dreamed of, you are quite blessed.
Love that Island, spent many Christmas Holidays out there, my Grandmothers name was Tryphena, so we always visited that harbour. Your Old Man will leave an incredible legacy.
I grew up in Devonport Auckland and sailed all my life and in 1970 I built a 24 foot keelboat and would sail to Great Barrier Island usually anchoring at Mansion house so thankyou for the memories Colin Love you and the channel Great work cheers Phil
Great Barrier is a beautiful part of the world, and it's great to see how your family has put the effort in and made it into a beautiful home. With a great work effort and the drive to see your goals come to fruition, anything is achievable.
Colin, it is so cool to see this side of you and your life. One can definitely see where you get your ingenuity and drive from. Always impressed and always a follower and supporter. Keep the content coming.
It's always interesting to see a person's roots and I've been curious as to yours Colin. I must say, you have a beautiful family and wonderful parents ❤
Watching this video certainly brings truth to the saying ‘like father like son’ with both your determination to finish large time consuming projects. Can see where you get your drive to succeed from! Thanks for sharing some of your home life with us x
I’ve loved all your episodes, especially the ones documenting the rebuild of Parlay but I think this one has to be my favourite. You are so blessed to have such a loving family and it’s now quite obvious where you’ve got your drive and work ethic from. Keep up the fabulous work Colin, Jamie and the rest of your team! Ps, I’m glad to see Jamie back on the vlogs after his eye surgery.
Wow such a wonderful family legacy your Dad has built. ✨Now you are here building your own, inspiring so many with such vibrant energy!🥰 Awesome episode Colin, I laughed & I cried❣️
Everyone needs a Jamie in their life! That one guy who WILL be there, no matter what, you’re right you’re wrong it doesn’t matter he’s your friend, that’s what matters
These last 2 episodes have been great.a small insight into the more personal side of your life.. you are blessed with a wonderful family and you always have a beautiful place to call home
Watching you on Below Deck and then accidentally finding your channel … I could always tell you were a special person. Now I can see where it came from. Salt of the earth parents with a good work ethic passed on to their son. What a beautiful life your parents provided for you growing up and as an example of how to make your dreams come true through hard work.
Full of admiration for what your Dad has built, the glimpse into your upbringing explains how you were able to do all that work to Parlay, rather than giving up ( which most of us would have done). Great episode.
beautiful house and family. You're a lucky man but luck comes to the good ones. Count your blessings and don't apologize for hard work. you're also a hard-working man!
Easy to see where you get your love of adventure plus the grit and determination to get things done. 40 years ago the Barrier was like the wild west and building anything out there took a lot of effort. What a lovely accomplished family you have. I love the family photo on the beach that is in the video - def one for framing.
Damn. Colin's dad is an amazing craftsman. Both those houses are absolutely gorgeous and that style of house is something I would love to own someday. 20/10. Then there's the bikes and the truck and the cabin I'm blown away. That's a self made man right there. And while Colin is leading a different lifestyle, he's still making dreams come true and accomplishing incredible goals. This was an incredibly nice feel good episode and seeing that completed house 40 years in the making made me tear up. I'm familiar with what it takes to construct a house, but when I saw those beams and the way it was built I couldn't help but tear up. Those two houses are an absolute labor of love and my god are they gorgeous. His brother's boat is a dream as well. Damn that thing is phenomenal.
I have always wanted to tell that your soeech at the beginning of every video is so true to me because now I am in my 70's I have way to many regrets from not taking a chance, but getting married and having kids early which I will never regret limited me to what I felt I could do. Be safe and happy and continue to keep in touch with your fantastic family
Thanks Colin for another fabulous video! Amazing family living in an amazing part of the world! Sounds like you are thinking about being a Dad one day! Any little boy or girl would be lucky to have you as a father!!
Wow,your father is amazing man,I got endless respect, shows me anything is possible if stay at it,I thought childhood home was awesome, off grid retirement home, wow,I'm so intrigued, epic content
A beautiful piece of architecture that will last to become a generational home. I can see the heart and soul put into the details. As a close to 7 decades of life on one it is a beautiful thing to see.
4:20 i love hearing you talk about your father putting his heart and time into the house, as its something you will always remember him by every time you walk through that house. Magic legacy.
Awesome that you went home to see your family if it was 10 weeks it would still not enough time flys... Everyone has their happy place your brother has his and you have yours and Colin i can see where you get im doing this from awesome... You make dreams a reality
I've always been impressed by the level of tenacity you show rebuilding Parle. Even more then that, your background working as a chief engineer on super yachts and what it takes just to get to that position. I've often thought I'd like to take a cruise with you and your friends but the reality is, I'm 65 and maybe not your first choice for a crew mate. However, after watching this video, Id very much like to hang out with your dad. He's my kind of people! I'm a retired mechanic, carpenter and architectural draftsman. You make perfect sense now! You're exactly who you should be! Good luck, have a blast.
Very cool Collin. I see where you get your respect from your whole family is very cool thanks for sharing your vacation at home with us get back on parlay and let’s get sailing.Stay safe great seeing you too Jamie.
It doesn't matter how much money people have as long as they are happy. Your parents gave you a great work ethic, but also showed you how to enjoy life and be kind and generous to other people. We all watched you work so hard to get Parley in the water and it wasn't easy. What I can say, watching you on Sunday morning makes me smile and that to me is worth a lot. Safe travels and see you next week.
Hey your turn is coming you must have all the ladies chasing you. I love your journey your part of my family as I love watching your journey. You are such a gentleman and a great human being.
Your dad is very inspiring. I'm 72 and thinking I'd like to get a boat, live on it, try to get it ready to sail, all that. Guys like your dad do this, I'm in great physical shape for my age so could happen ! . I once worked for a man how is known as the Bird Man of Arcata, (University of Humboldt, California. A professor, who had this amazing ranch., across a river Zip Line . I worked there for three years building trails and other projects and just maintaining it so the bears and other animals wouldn't take up residence lol. He always talked about an Island similar to the one your were on.
Beautiful. Love it. That's all that needs to be said. Living the dream because it's being around people from around the world that shows this world is beautiful.
In todays culture of everyone gets a trophy, it’s such respect to all of you. Your dads work ethic certainly has been passed down to his children. Well done.
Thanks for sharing your personal/family life with all of us. It appears like you had an amazing childhood. Do Mom and Dad like to stay off camera? You shared your Dad briefly on the previous episode
5:34 Don't lie!! It was, Blood, Sweat, Tears and Beers!! Good luck to you and your family, bro. I know what it is. From Portugal with love for the Ocean!! 👍😉
Should consider developing it into a resort for the next generation too (later in life/NEVER SELL)... Help your family grow and never worry. You are winning with your passion!
WOW, Thank you for sharing your time at home and family with us that was something truly special. You're definitely a chip of the Old Block it appears as your father is an amazing man who raised yet another amazing man. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless. PS. Don't worry young man she's out there somewhere you just haven't found her or she you, Yet...
Glad to see you all having fun and enjoying being with your family after all these years. It will be so good for you to recharge your emotional batteries. Full sun on your solars.
With a steam up on the hill you all should look into a Turgo turbine. I can 100% relate to what you were saying about people would perceive as you being rich with what you have. I dont think I have bought a boat or house ever at market value. More like pulling something out of the weeds and restoring it. My first house when I bought it was 3 days away from being condemned by the city. A lot of blood sweat and tears but its always worth it in the long run.
Nothing but mad respect for your dad. It's easy to see where you get your work ethic and common sense mechanical aptitude. Actually mad respect for the both of ya!
Hi Colin. Your Dad is a talented builder. Love the woodwork in your families home. Building is keeping your Dad young! That a million dollar view that they have. WOW! Love watching your vlogs. 😎🇨🇦
So much respect for your father. Not many decent men with a true moral compass left in the world. What a champion!
There's millions out there!!!
@@JDD888 That's true, and he is one of them!

Totally agree 🎉🎉
Straight up hustle your dad’s whole life, mad respect that’s all I know nothing but hustle to get ahead in life.🤘
As a builder myself of 40 years, your dad’s workmanship is quite impressive. In a typical house you would see “rough framing” but with your father’s work you see Japanese Timber joinery, beautiful lines and craftsmanship.
I noticed that too. In his house he even included the swept up roof corners of the lodges of Indonesia.None of that is easy or fast to build.
Quite impressive? I would say extremely impressive. Amazing to see the Kiwi pioneering spirit of self sufficiency is still alive and kicking ass. We can all see where you got your fantastic work ethic from and drive to make your dreams come true but there is always another challenge to spur you on 🤩

Enjoyed the video, lots of love for lots of reasons. Cheers!

Nothing but mad respect for your dad. It's easy to see where you get your work ethic and common sense mechanical aptitude. Actually mad respect for the both of ya!
