He lived on top of a knob and we saw him there every single time we looked for him. We also ran into those kids out there. Let’s just say, I wasn’t impressed. The buck was sweet though.

It was 5 feet off the main trail and I had covered that trail a dozen times this summer. Plus, the elk rarely drop up there. But good eye - because it does look like one in that clip.

@@BMCBryce today was opening day of archery elk it’s my 11 year old sons 4th year bow hunting elk and he almost sealed the deal on a nice six posted a short on the channel he’s taken 2 bulls with a rifle and missed a couple bulls with his bow so far but I got a good feeling for this season!
For real. We were both shocked that he had fallen and pinned himself below that log the way he had. It was wild. Believe it or not, it was very challenging to get him up out of there - with just the two of us. He was such a big body and it was so steep, it just made it really hard to move him.
The flies are always so bad early on. Some years are worse than others - but we figure it out. Tacos cooked on an open fire are next level… every time.
What a beaut! I loved the video... Excellent scouting and shooting to boot. Were you able to get the age of the buck back from the DWR yet? I'd love to hear his age.

@stephenballard3759 The arrow passed through the very bottom of the bucks heart. After that, it was able to exit the opposite side - but just enough to have the top of the Broadheads poke out. As the buck moved, the arrow continued to cut up and do damage to the internal organs. He died a very short time after we last saw him walk around the edge of the ridge.
I know it looks like one, but it’s just a branch. It’s just off the main trail that Scotty and I both used no less than 20 times - between all of our scouting and hunting. Good eye though.
It is… during hunting season. All trail cameras and salt were removed before the July 31st deadline. Salt was used only to hold deer in front of the cameras for pictures. Even that didn’t work. We didn’t get any big bucks on camera all summer.

I have chosen to serve on the RAC because I have been disappointed and even disgusted by how the Wildlife Board has abused the power they have, misrepresented the general public and instituted rules and laws that are contradictory to sound wildlife management practices. So again, I’d invite you to first off know and understand what you’re talking about and second try harder about delivering a message in a way that isn’t assuming or misleading. My boys packed all of the meat out the night Scotty killed. They wanted to make it back to town in order to make it to church in the morning. I talked them into taking the meat back for us and loading it all into a cooler in the truck. Then, Scott, Jaris and I came out the next morning with all of our camp and obviously the hide/head. Worked out great.

Trying to make an enormous buck look even bigger in a picture in hopes of impressing people I don’t know or care about. What an incredible idea. Too bad I blew and only took regular pictures with the happy hunter, celebrating an amazing adventure and harvest - right on the buck while holding his antlers in his hands like normal people do. Really too bad.

Thank you. He’s a very fine buck. 185 5/8”. Lots of mass and very symmetrical. Inside spread was 23 4/8”.
