      Ditto. Made comment elsewhere but little things like replacing the air supply connections with only 1 custom made part (that looks amazing in itself) is what makes the difference between you and every other " restoration " channel.

    I kind of like how the handle turned out. The slight marks show that this thing hasn't been sitting idle as a display piece, but has a rich history of use.

      I absolutely agree. "My Mechanics" does it they way it should be done. I like to hear the sounds of the tools and to hear people clearly when they do speak.
      So many people sabotage their own videos by going out of their way to add a music track that plays over their voice 😂😂😂. The weirdest part is, these video makers actually think the music makes their video "better". Just like the "laugh track" ruined some of the greatest tv shows US history, the "music track" ruins some of the would be great youtube channels.

    It’s very interesting to me going back in time and looking at a content creator’s older content. It gives a person the ability to really appreciate all the little improvements made in production quality and how a person develops over time.

      Was just thinking this! Especially on the handle that he's "not happy at all how it turned out"...In future videos, he would apply some of that 2-component solution to fill those holes before painting and he'd be on his merry way lol. Very cool to see his growth, especially for someone already so masterful.

      Nah..it's really dirty work (when you working on lots of stuff) and a breathing mask-protection should be used.I did the exact job for about 4 years long time ago-and after all..you ll need to protect the metal with various methods after finishing with the polishing..

      I don't make parts look like show pieces but I do go far enough to restore a tool or parts function. And let me tell you it takes alot of time patience and effort to get those parts to the level that this guy is doing. He makes it look easy. I would love to see a breakdown of how many hours he spends in these restorations. Unless you sold the items for astronomical prices you could never make a profit. With today's technology and manufacturing capabilities tool are made to look more precise in their finish but I doubt they will be around for a hundred year's.

      I'm not mechanic nor do I have a single clue as to how to do any of this, but could the handle have possibly been painted? Or maybe even that technique to make the metal "black" have helped to cover up those welding color issues?

    I must confess something...
    when watching your videos I feel both a deep sense of shame and a great inspiration.
    I was always a "It's good enough." kinda guy. I always thought if it works fine then dont bother with it.
    But then i see someone like you. who sees something that could be better..so they make it better. Sees something that can be improved so they improve it. The comment where you said it looked ugly so youll make a new one...It remindedme of all the times I thought something looked ugly but it worked ok so..I left it.
    You inspire me to go further and be better at my projects. To strive for as good as it can be...not just Good enough.

    I know it's been three years but I think you did a really good job, I've seen other channels fix those welding spots by heating up the entire object and letting it slowly cool back down, it makes all the metal an even temperature and when it cools back down everything blends together

    I know the struggle with porous aluminum. I was restoring something recently, a drill powered angle buffer from the 1950's, and it was originally a rough cast finish, but I wanted to file it smooth and polish it but no matter how much I filed, new voids kept appearing. So I decided to do a sand blast finish so at least they weren't as noticable. Thank you for your inspiring videos!

    Machining a new pneumatic fitting from scratch was revenge against the universe for the poor casting of the handle that couldn’t be fixed. Great work again! Nice job!

    There is nothing more satisfying that watching metal being turned on a lathe. Too bad the handle didn’t turn out better but it was not due to lack of effort on your part. Another great project, friend!

    Most "restorers" are more refurbishers than they are restorers. They bring them up to working speed and get them looking good for their age.
    You truly restore something. Going as far as fabricating something that looks exactly in its place. Love your videos.

    This is by far my favourite channel for restorations.
    Your dedication to getting things not just working right but looking right is inspiring.
    It's a shame about the handle casting being so poor, but you can only do the best you can with what you're given.
    However, I know you were considering, however briefly, machining a new handle from raw stock. Go on, admit it! :-)
    No matter what's going wrong in my life, watching one of your videos gives me a genuine lift. I can't wait for the next one!

      Tbh he kind of ruined it, I can see why he isn’t happy with the results. I don’t agree with the polishing either those items were never polished, ruined them. His other stuff is really good, but this one he messed up.

      @@oximofo9 I notice that a lot of times My Mechanics likes to mirror polish parts that really ought to be left in a brushed finish. It's just one of the quirks of his style, I can appreciate it even if I disagree with the final product.

    I've been watching this channel like crazy for past couple of months, I always end up wondering if the any of those equipments would 've looked this good originally. He takes them to a whole new level! I'm quite sure if any of the original manufactureres of these equipment look at them now they will pay top dollars to have these in their hall of fame.

    I can't believe you're apologizing for any of this! Your work is amazing, and your dedication to the craft shows through,and I believe that's why you're hard on yourself.
    Let me say this...because of you, I was inspired to start my own small restoration business. You're a big inspiration, and I love your work. Never keep any of your videos locked away... I want to see every single video! I'd especially like to see a video in which a restoration failed. They say we all learn the most from failure!

    The only one on UA-cam who does proper restorations. Brilliant. So nice for someone to use a proper belt wrench instead of a monkey wrench (plumbers fool tool) so horrible mauling to soft body does not occur.
    Fellow OCD'er check-list Mirror shine on non-visible objects? Check. Polish all possible components? Check. Renew oxide on parts? Check. Restoration results in superior quality to original? Precision hand-made items where commercial/non-precision items would suffice? Check. But wait...
    Uses Ballistol? Has wrenches with high refractive index? Has access to Gruener sandblaster? Aha- German level OCD. Sehr gut mein fein Herr. Uber super duper prima sehr schoene.

      You should check out Old Shovel's channel. He's a smaller channel and does less complicated things, but he always restores things to proper working condition and uses them. Worth checking him out!

    I discovered this channel about 10 days ago and binge watched all the videos in one night. Which was awesome but I should had taken my time, I have been feigning for an upload for 9 days Haha. This is a masterpiece
    P.s, idiots will say ego drives you to create commonly available fittings but I say what is more impressive than a machinist working on his craft? Not ego, but the pursuit of practicing a craft.

      It's an oxide coasting- so a tiny layer of inactive metal rather than paint. So if you want to do that yourself- you'll need "blueing" or "blackening" agent.
