About Forgotten Cellar being a 5CC Yawgmoth's Will, remember that years ago Burning Wish was reatricted/banned because it was in practice a 3BR Yawgmoth's will 🤔
You are 100% spot on with the new rare dual land cycle. They are always untapped and they are easy to turn on. They could print 20 cards into this cycle if they flip the primary color and secondary color turned on. Even in older formats OG duals and fetch lands power them up, making them easier to turn on.
I kinda disagree, Ofcourse they are useful but mostly for 2 color pips and support for tri color lands. I expect them to be relatively bulk in a year, but then, could be wrong :D
@MrBragle The one issue becuase they were not going to make them better than shock or fetch is that they are not fetchable that will hurt these cards a lot
Perfect lands in decks that largely splash secondary color. Gives you primary color untapped 100% of the time, and activates later in game when splash cards come up. It will be insane in standard grull prowess deck (mostly red 1 drops) and pioneer rakdos midrange (heavy on black 1 drops)
I mean, it's a 3 mana wrath. The floor, offensively, is you just swing with everything, and keep whatever doesn't die(kill the untapped). Or defensively, they keep something with summoning sickness. There's also a lot of ways to manipulate tapped/untapped. It's not going to be as good as Sunfall, i think, because of the Enduring's, it is nonetheless very strong.
My recent favorite token to copy with caretakers talent has been a haste skeleton token the turn after you play corpses of the lost, it’s like having 8 copies of corpses of the lost but 4 of them draw you cards and anthem your skeletons even more
You’re absolutely correct about the Dual Lands. The first Rare Wildcards I spend will be on all those lands. Sets you up to play whatever color you need/want in the future.
Sheltered by Ghosts kinda scares me, particularly given that it's uncommon. 1W to O-ring an enemy nonland permanent, while putting a +1/+0 lifelink + Ward 2 aura on something is really powerful in a lot of matchups. This is the set sleeper for me. Play it with Calix and you can start copying it, taking advantage of eerie triggers to just snowball.
The new duals are definitely not the average cycle. At all. They're not only really good, they are a long-term cycle of TWENTY duals, not the normal ten. For every single one of these, you can reverse the colors in the two tap abilities, and those variations legit fit into their own decks, they're not redundant with these first pairings. It's REALLY good design space that, in retrospect, is shocking was never made previously.
Might be because they are just really really powerfull. Right now i think fetch lands>dual lands> pain lands> these lands. Releasing these lands into standard/pioneer is going to raise the general powerlvl a bit.
I started in ice age but I havent played magic since 2015 since i have no friends to play with. Ive watched every duskmourn video of yours. Love the commentary and your analysis. If i wasnt disabled or embarrassed to go by myself i would love to go to a sealed or something but at my age by myself i would be really out of my element. So thanks for the content.
Doomsday excruciator is awesome if you bring it back from the grave, bypassing the cast trigger. For my pre release deck, I used cynical loner to tutor it into my yard. Then, flashback cast a rite of the moth to bring doomsday into play and win the game.
I think ghostly dancers is going to be nuts the fact that you can return grand entryway get the glimmer creature then get two 3/1flyers then next turn unlock the second half and have 14 power on the board most of it flying spread between 5 bodies from just 2 cards seems insane.
Not to mention all of the enchantment based removal in standard right now. Trapped in the screen your thing get a 3/1. Unable to scream your big dude and get a 3/1.
Nowhere to run was prob one of the top 10 (as an edh player) for me. Not a lotta effects like this for black and that color needs to be able to target its foes. So I agree with it being as high as it is on the list m!
What do you think of an Izzet Mill deck built around prowess, pumping, and protecting The Mindskinner? Assuming the ceiling of possible cards by T3 (52 assuming mulling to 5), if you can pump to 13 every turn, its a 4 turn clock. I haven't done all the possible math, but could be a 2-3 turn clock as soon as you start attacking with the skinner if they can't get rid of it.
Got into magic like yesterday... figured foundations was a good spot to start couldn't wait. Grabbed 3 durkmourn collector boosters and 6 play boosters. Pulled between like 20 25 of the cards on this list. Just curious is that about to be expected or did I have insane luck??
I don't think so, he still needs to be on the board. What you're saying would require it to have something like "If a card you didn’t control would be put into an opponent’s graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead. Put a Valgavoth Counter on it that says "During your turn, you may play cards exiled with a Valgavoth Counter. If you cast a spell this way, pay life equal to its mana value rather than pay its mana cost.""
Btw Marina, pronounced same as where you put boats, is just a fairly common name, though not as popular in the US. So while there's the possibility it's supposed to be pronounced differently than that...that possibility is the same way maybe Robert on a card might be supposed to be pronounced Roe-bear. Not the wildest thing, but also probably not the intention.
You lied to me Dev. You said that the blue/white 2mana enchantment creature was the last non-rare/mythic of the list. Then you revealed Arabella at 15. I feel betrayed, but pleasantly surprised :)
Fear of imposters seems like a bad play for a control deck. Sure you counter something. But do you really want to give your opponet something that he can turn face up? Cause manifest dread gives card selection. So you could just sneaked a Sheoldred past your own counter spells.
i know you dont respond to comments like at all, but i would love if you said why you never do the content creator mtg day. i always wish i could see your brews and thoughts as you try the new cards
Screaming Nemesis is the #1 card in the set, in my opinion. Are you really going to attack into this thing? Are they going to block it? Not many creatures trade with Glissa just as an example. I see you have an X/X creature... Be a shame if you took X damage.
I'm sorry Dev. Been riding with you on most of your content this set, but this list seems mostly off the wall. Where is your insidius fungus? It didn't make top 50? It's in my top 5 and that is without grouping cards together. I don't see how you have roller coaster and meathook anywhere in the top 20. There are many other cards I just shook my head at. Anyway, much love and keep up the hard work.
Dev MaRo said black is getting enchantment removal because black has less removal when compared to other colors. It is in color pie but it is as new area for black.
@StrangeTaleofSpencer The issue is that most of Black's removal breaks down into either Creature and/or Planeswalker removal. Each other color is disproportionately having their removal being expanded. Colors other than black can deal with Artifacts. Every color has ways of dealing with creatures, even weak creature removal colors like Green or Blue. Meanwhile Enchantments can only really be affected by 2 1/2 colors, (Green, White, a little Blue,) making Enchantments one of the most difficult permanent types to remove. Giving Black Enchantment removal is a way to help balance things out. Especially as Wizards keeps making more and more powerful cards.
@jajob13 I think that's a feature, though, not a bug. Black's creature removal is by far the best of any color's. It even has boardwipes that are nearly as good as white's overall, and may even be better in particular matchups--using deadly coverup to exile all of an opponents combo pieces is gameover in a lot of instances. The tradeoff for that is supposed to be that it doesn't have good solutions to non-creature enchantments or artifacts, and that drawback is not throwing off the power balance currently. Black is far from struggling--its arguably the most powerful color overall right now. Red can sometimes get in under its more powerful cards just by being extremely fast, but even that is dependent on Black having a bad draw and not having enough early-game removal. I really don't see any need for WotC to alter the current color pie by taking away one of black's very few drawbacks, and it seems like we're quickly approaching the point where black can just do everything.
@@jajob13 I posted a reply that isn't appearing for some reason, so apologies if this is a double post. But I think that's a feature, not a bug. Creature and planeswalker removal are the most important and commonly needed types of removal in the game, and Black has by far the best creature and planeswalker removal of any color. It even has board wipes that are nearly as good as White's when considered as a whole and that are actually better than White's in certain match ups--Deadly Cover-Up can strip a combo deck of all copies of its combo pieces in a way that Sunfall can't, for instance. The tradeoff for Black having insanely good creature removal is supposed to be that it doesn't have good answers to non-creature permanents like artifacts or enchantments, and that drawback has been working just fine. Black is far from struggling; it's arguably been the overall most powerful and frequently played color for a while now. (Red aggro may be faster and sometimes able to get in under Black's more powerful creatures, but even then its typically dependent on Black having a bad enough draw that it doesn't have enough early game removal.) So I truly don't understand why WotC feels the need to get rid of one of Black's very few drawbacks, and it seems like we're swiftly approaching the point where Black can just do everything, color pie be damned.
You said coffee, and now you have reminded me, we have not seen a Coffee Break in a while. Take a break Dev, you deserve it.

Split Up is the most underrated card. It's the easiest way to 1-sided wrath and it's only 3 mana.
Can't wait play Rollercrusher Ride + Barbed Servitor + Torch the Witness. It's not going to be a good pile, but it'll be funny when it works.

best believe the professor go bananas for my deck tech
I watched Numot play a sealed event, and he had the Dollmaker’s shop. It was OP when he cast it early to mid game.
Chad Hollow Knight mentioner

I'd put valgavoth in sideboards of the Attraxa decks for certain removal heavy decks
Rollercrusher, roll-ride, crusher, crush-rise, RCR, rock n’ roller. Or Aerosmith. What do we call this things?!
Doomsday excruciator is awesome if you bring it back from the grave, bypassing the cast trigger.

1:05 I think since choosing the creature part of casting the spell, it gets to do the damage even if they kill your creature.

Reluctant role model reminds me of Dwight from DBD. Looks and describes him almost perfectly.
Great top 50 brother! Really enjoyed all the punnies. Can't wait to brew with Duskmourne!
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Turn 3 Braids into turn 4 Meathook Massacre II is gonna be fucking STRONG.
Came to see whats up with MTG currently, stayed for the cat. Hes a G.
Got some good laughter from the balloon man stretch joke.
Wow. Less than five minutes in and I am rollin'. You are Dev!
The jokes were landing Dev 😂😂
My favorite video of preview season
My biggest sleeper of the set is Enter the Enigma, gonna make all my prowess decks happy.
Main card I was surprised you didn't mention is The Wandering Emperor.

I'm kinda surprised that Victor didn't make the top 50. But i guess it's easy to kill it before it can do anything.
The role model joke made me unironically laugh out loud lol
Nowhere to run will be one of the best removal spells in Pioneer. Forget about Standard. Hell, it will even see a ton of play in Modren
