    It's really kind of amazing to me the sheer variety of comments, from people who agree with Denny to people who disagree to people who deeply understand the show this comes from. Let me be clear, I didn't put this clip up to make a political statement of any kind. I just found it to be funny, and a commentary on how little has changed since this show came out.

      No sadder than people who believe because they "feel" something it trumps facts and science. He's right - depend on the government for nothing. He's right - why pay taxes if the government doesn't do anything. He's also wrong in certain ways. Don't be an all left or all right stooge - try to form an opinion of your own - if you can't what is the purpose of having one or for that matter being?

    • @blogintonblakley2708
      @blogintonblakley2708 Рік тому

      @@boedillard4541 If you can't depend on the government for anything then it isn't a government it's a racket. The way to address this is to make certain that you have a government made up of the people being governed... all of them. Then you make sure that those same people are doing the governing. And finally you make sure they are governing in their own interests.
      If you have a government like that you CAN count on it.
      The problem is that our economic system... capitalism... is antidemocratic to it's core. All market systems are. It is a fundamental characteristic of market systems that they have winners and losers. In other words market systems create poverty. And the winners in the markets... which are never free and always end up being controlled by the winners in the markets and not by governments... corrupt any government away from serving the interests of the public and towards serving the interests of the winners in the markets.
      This is exactly the situation that FDR faced during his presidency. The interests of the capitalists had led the nation into world war and the Great Depression. To fix the country... and capitalism... FDR had to do wealth redistribution. And they economy worked pretty well for awhile, until capitalists managed to undercut the fixes that FDR put into place.
      From my perspective you are making a classic mistake. You are blaming government instead of the real perpetrators of our problems.
      Rich people and their corporations.
      Never makes sense to me how people bag on government for being corrupt but give the first cause... the people doing the actual corruption and leading in their own interests... a complete pass.
      Maybe most people wish they were a rich tyrant... I don't know.
      Sounds like a lot of trouble without much real gain.

      Its pretty funny to see how similar yet how far conservatives are in regards to certain things.
      In this regards, "fairness" is a topic both liberals and conservatives generally agree on. But how and what "fairness" differs drastically.
      Conservatives tend to focus more on "to each reap what they sow". That if you put in the work, you should reap the results. Not have it taxed or spread around. Should one decide to share, thats fine. But if someone earns something its not for others to decide how its moved around. Even if this results in disparaties in income.
      Liberals focus on "fairness" of outcome. That everyone receives a "fair" amount of the earnings, no matter the position or contributions of the recipient. Due to the nature of individual capabilities and motivations, that means disparities. And to liberals, taking from high producers to spread amongst the lower producers is "fair".
      Both agree on "fairness". But vastly disagree on how. And ofc they attack extreme outliers. Like actual abusive employers and white collar thiefs. And link up honest high producers with them. Just like criticizing the poor leeches who obviously game the welfare system, as an attack on all poor and honest workers.

Who in their right mind would go back to work, when they can stay home and get paid more then working. All those thinking wages should be up. The jobs they getting minimum wage at, supposed to e for kids in high school and retire people looking for some extra money to help with retirement. Fast food jobs are not supposed to be used to raise a family on. Its a stepping stone till you get that factory or Office job making 15-20 a hour.

    • @stephenfacca6703
      @stephenfacca6703 2 роки тому +4

      I'd be interested to know where you're getting those numbers. If the $600/week you're talking about is from the covid stimulus package, that is not permanent and is designed to help the "hardworking" Americans who are out of a job through no fault of their own. The average American on food stamps receives $121/month. And if you think it's such a great life to live, why don't you give it a go?
      As for minimum wage jobs, I feel like you are someone who believes that a person should be compensated based on the relative difficulty of their job. And based on this comment, you have likely never worked in fast food or any high paced customer service industry. If you think a person deserves at least $15/hour for packing boxes in a warehouse or doing data entry in an office job, then we should be paying fast food workers at least that much to deal with not only the volume of orders but the absolute crap-bag people who march through there every day who look down on the people behind the counter as somehow lesser human beings.
      The point is that maybe 40 years ago these jobs were supposed to be that way, but the society we've built today would collapse into chaos without these people in these jobs. I won't even get into the social/economic background that has made it so that jobs like fast food are the only places that will hire a person or that they are qualified for.
      This whole "Nobody wants to come back to work" thing really makes me laugh, because it's always the "free market" people who now can't find employees. Well guess what, the free market has decided that your business model of underpaying employees is no longer viable, so either they get better at running their business in a sustainable way, or they fail. Late-stage capitalism! Rah!

Both worked as cab drivers who were let go because of covid and less people on the road. Some states are still doing the extra money to stay at home and not work. If I can get 2400-3000 a month to stay at home. I be on the couch and you would to. Plus you forget, there was so many let go and so many who applied for it, they was approving everyone. Even some part time people were getting it who still had full time jobs some how. Good thing that happened, our State targeted them to pay it all back.
