I have lipodema (only stage 1) and have greatly reduced swelling and problems through bike riding for exercise (1-1.5 hours several times a week, if not daily), and intermittent fasting 16 hours a day. I also stopped red meat and almost never eat chicken. I eat whole foods for the most part (occasional cheating on chips or a homemade cookie or sweet roll seems to be OK as long as it's rare). Never eat processed food. I lost 15 pounds without "dieting", I just eat well, don't eat after 7pm and fast until 11am., then I eat as much as I want. I have olive oil in my diet, eat lots of vegetables, beans, nuts, and fruits. I make homemade granola with healthy fats and a small amount of honey or maple syrup (it doesn't taste sweet, and I've gotten used to it because I make it crunchy and toasty and eat with apples and berries). I eased into all of the above over several years, and I don't think anyone can jump in and change heaven and earth and have it work. Begin by increasing the good and decreasing the harmful. Feeling good and being healthy reinforces good eating. Don't judge yourself, just try to do better the next day!
Thanks for sharing! I highly suspect I have stage one as well. Slim and athletic except for abnormal accumulation in thighs hips and butt. Im mostly a plant based eater so I'm happy to hear your approach to diet is working. I'll have to try cycling on top of my strength training regimen.
@@lalitahalawar2198 not necessarily, could be a temporary swelling that resolves itself eventually, but can be warning sign for a few things... if you ever need t get a surgery involving removing a lymph node, let them know as you might easily get it.. good news there are tests they can give you before hand to see how susceptible you are and dont let them wave it away.. Other vascular problems also cause edema (swelling ) you also may have other things that need attention, and lastly there is a lot of undiagnosed lymphedema out there.. a lot.. some people have it for years and dont know it so if you have had a already a lymph node removed.. if you are swelling every day and it never quite resolves .. that is a real sign...in any case I would when traveling move and jump and shake your limbs as often as you can.
I had lipodema all my life and never understood why I was so heavy in my hips and thighs I literally was two sizes bigger on my hips. Long story short I asked my GP who diagnosed me in 2022. I read sugar and gluten as a problem so I gave them up and changed to a Carnivore Diet (loads of vids Dr Ken Berry, Dr sean Baker, Beef and Butter Gal) and over eight months it reduced and I dropped two and a half stone and two trouser sizes. Im size 14 UK which ive not been since my teens I’m now in my sixties!!! I feel and look so much younger with way better energy levels. No sugar cravings after a few days. Lifelong clinical depression gone! I hope this helps someone. If I can do it anyone can! x
Congratulations! I am doing keto and it has made a difference in the leg swelling. I try to do intermittent fasting 16/8, sometimes 18/6. I'm wondering if I do longer states of autophagy if it will help get rid of the bad fat cells/connective tissue disorder. Do you fast?
@@marybethleib8286 Stop with the high cholesterol BS.. It's people that keep pushing the fallacy that high cholesterol is bad.. Your liver makes 75% cholesterol and is needed for the body to function.. There have been new studies done that show high cholesterol was NEVER BAD!.. It was pushed on us by a guy named Ansel Keys.. no clinical studies were done to prove cholesterol was bad.. He thought eating fat makes you fat and clog your arteries.. Go watch Dr Ken Berry about what cholesterol is or the other doctors on here.. Go research.. There are still some websites still pushing the lie about cholesterol is so bad.. They want to keep you on those meds..
The high fat keto diet for 4 months caused me to get elevated cholesterol and triglycerides (319 & 230) and eventually lower leg and feet swelling. I was eating a VERY high fat diet. Roasted fatty pork belly and wings with the skin, lots of home made mayo with avocado oil, butter, ghee, coconut oil, nuts, avocado, I was chowing down on any fats I got my hands on. it was delicious, but it wasn't good for me. I was DX'd with lymphedema yesterday and will get corrective surgery on poor veins in my lower legs. Was glad to find this video. Beans are a great way to get rid of fat soluble toxins in the GI tract. If you've been eating a high fat diet, I think eating beans daily will lower your cholesterol rather fast. And this time I think I'll do a plant based diet, with eggs or fish 2x a week because it could save your life.
Most of the supermarket meat that is 'NOT ORGANIC' are in themselves 'TOXIC': because they are loaded with inflammatory omega 6 fats. I presume this will explain the cause of your condition
Not all fat is good for you. Nuts, virgin olive oil, avocado and such fat sources won’t increase your bad cholesterol. The leading cause of high cholesterol is over-consumption of fatty meats and seed oils. What you did is often called the “bad version of keto” yes it qualifies as ketogenic but it has such flaws. I have been doing keto for the last 50 days and am planning to do so for a few months but I am almost certain that my cholesterol levels are not going to be affected (I had bloodwork done before starting and knew my cholesterol wasn’t an issue)
Yes, look up Dr. Karen Hurd and "The Bean Protocol" she reccomends half a cup of beans 3x a day to change your life! Personally I feel better when I eat lentils. She explains how our bodies adapt to consume and process them, and why people seem to have issues in the beginning. But the key is really in the soluble fiber. If you find you can't eat beans even after allowing the adjusting period, which most people do adjust, she claims all her patients do, then just look for a fiber supplement with roughly the same amount of soluble fiber.
This lecture is what I needed to hear. After a long travel day from US to the UK my legs and feet are so swollen I was forced on day 2 of my trip to stay in bed flat on my back waiting for the swelling to go down in my legs and feet. I’ve been suffering from peripheral neuropathy for several years without a satisfactory explanation.
I think you changed my life and I will never forget you. I have EDS that got to the worst stage I could imagine. I cured it but when I slowly came back I realized it was lymph related and you’re the first doctor I’ve come across to acknowledge it. Treating it as lymphedema has changed my life.

I have full body lymphedema from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. I appreciate this info so much. This has been ongoing for over 10 years with little or no support from Dr.s Thank you so much. God bless you!
My friend has this and there seem to be no medical people who know much about it. No one has ever told her about the fattty liver connection. I have forwarded this to her. I was also interested in the various nutriants/supplements. I'm big on supplements and they have made a difference in my own health. Hope you can find some relief from this heartbreaking condition.
I live in Oregon the Pacific Northwest and I cannot find any one that specializes in Lympadema. I have only been referred to physical therapy for massage of the limp system.
@@missecho1530 Have you contacted OHSU? My son, not in Portland, has been unable to find a knowledgeable dr. At one point, a local dr. researched the condition and was helpful, but he retired.
All of this advice is perfect and right on point. I was born with primary lymphedema and wasn't diagnosed until I was four (4) I'm 50 now. Yes eating healthy and exercising is the best way that I have been able to maintain it and have lived a fun and active life. As a child I had experimental surgery because it was so rare,my family took me to many doctors. 1 included widening of the veins on the tops of my feet which eliminated a lot of the swelling on one side 70% and decreased it by 40% on the other. My legs do still swell, especially around that time of the month. Investing in a good shoes and keeping your feet clean and if you can pedicured. Lotion is A+ good for the skin and for getting massaged. I do my 6 zones and pedi myself. Feeling pampered, especially when you aren't sure what your legs will look like through the end of day is a blessing. Bottom line eating right will be normal eating. Promise you. Hopes this helps you feel better and stay positive.Stay beautiful and strong.
Milk thistle and cutting out all meat and dairy . Add milk thistle to aid your liver add sodium bicarbonate 1/4 to 1/2 tsp to a gallon of water make your own double o pills from milk thistle this will change your life instantly . No meat for a week you will instantly see results . Blessings
Nichole Jones I have primary Lymphedema as well, and lipedema as well. I’m morbidly obese and it’s hard to loose weight. I needed to hear this lecture to start changing my diet habits, and loose weight for my overall health. I can’t tell you how fatigued I get with this condition, and it’s a battle every day to get through. I’m an older college student, and I struggle sitting for long periods with toe and leg numbness as well. Thank you for sharing your information
My son is 36 and was born with primary lymphedema. His legs are HUGE. He develops cellulitis at least once a year sometimes 2 even though he takes very good care of his legs and condition in general. He is very active but cannot lose any weight. It is so frustrating. He could definitely improve on his diet. Thank you for sharing that info.
I do manual lymphadema drainage exercise daily ever since I had stage 4 breast cancer and had bilateral mastectomy. The manual lymphedema drainage exercises helped me reduced retention and swelling. I don arm compression daily and have started on Rebounder exercise recently. Rebounder, trampoline are good for lymphatic drainage as well. Blessings to all.
Good for you. I do not even have a rebounder. Is that a small trampoline? Did you get it on Amazon? Do you jump up & down on this ? Do you have have something to hold on to? Send me a picture of yours if that’s easy to do. I wish they had one at my gym.
Why are you all being mean to Patty Donovan? Those were legitimate questions about the trampoline and rebounder. Some pieces of equipment have multiple uses and some terms refer to multiple similar pieces of equipment. Yes, you can’t send pics on UA-cam comments but you can send links and either way, there are nicer ways to let people know things they don’t know.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart Chuck Erlich & this Channel 🙏🏼 I watched this a year ago and followed all the diet advice given plus daily lymphatic massage & exercise. I also used skin brushing, gua sha and short hot to cold showers over the year. I am utterly astonished at the results. I’ve had Lipedema since puberty mainly on my legs-mid thigh, knee, calf and ankle. No matter how slim my upper body, hips & Butt, my legs have always been like columns with no definition, fat at inner knees, shins, dorsal foot etc. I also had inner elbow fat Not only have I lost 26lb in weight this year, its gone from my knees & calves, shins & elbows and my limbs for the first time in my life look “Normal Shaped” My lovely Lipodema Friends, this is TOUGH to follow. But it WORKS!!! Ps. I stopped drinking alcohol completely and would recommend the same to others to get my results ie don’t just “reduce” alcohol. It’s so worth it. Xx
@@ciel1271 Yes I did. Along with Kombucha, and many other fermented vegetables. I focussed very much on the gut microbiome. Kefir & yoghurt are different to “Dairy” in general as they feed and change the gut microbiome. They nurture the Lymphatic system by reducing harmful gut bacteria and increasing good bacteria. Having a healthy gut microbiome also has stabilised my Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis, and works for all AutoImmune diseases. It’s incredibly powerful for good health and much cutting edge research is being done on the gut/brain relationship. Faecal transplants are being used from healthy individuals to sick ones to cure various Chronic Illnesses- an icky but exciting new area of medicine that is showing incredible results. Absolutely fantastic. This is what all our Drs / GPs / health care workers & schools in the UK should be teaching their patients / kids. As part of their most basic duty of care . They should be drilling this info into us all, because if we all had good regular advice from our GPs ect, about improving gut health & tell people better "WHY" they need to cut down on bad stuff because of its inflammatory effects on the body, then we'd all / most of us would be so much better off for it. PLUS it would help ease & save our NHS & all its related cost & quality related problems.
Why would you think doctors would be so stupid as to give advice on healthy eating? That would eventually put them out of business, or at the very least reduce their salaries drastically. Of course they aren’t going to volunteer to do that. They love to stay rich making money off others’ misery. All of the idiots out there that put their trust and faith in the health care system like it’s actually there to help you. Stupidity and gullibility like that doesn’t deserve to be saved. So, the entire process is self-fulfilled poetic justice. 97% of humanity are just braindead zombies following whatever the person in front of them is doing. It will not change, and humanity as we know it is on its way out. And thank god, because we are an embarrassment to the universe.
Yes, I am doing it right now concerning correct intakes of food, etc... Doing it for 5 months now and my pain is as good as none, can walk without cane too.
I've been doing high fat keto and become so swollen when I eat, that to move is painful and I'm an active person-moving usually eases the pain. Thank you for teaching us what is happening and how we can heal in detail. I'm so grateful we can have free access to this information! There's hope to get our mobility back and to let go of all the toxins. You are all Godsends for all the work and research you do, that actually makes a difference. And then making it possible to share this info. ❤

Hello I have lymphedema in my legs . I too did not have any luck with socks. But wrapping the with a thin foam.then over that long stretch bandages like aces bandages .whip first one way the the second counterclockwise so basically one goes clockwise the other counterclockwise like 4:30 in the morning here. you also need to see a vascular surgeon. I wouldn’t have surgery no way, but they are very helping in getting you wraps. You can also go with a Velcro wrap you have to be fitted for that we have auto insurance, so basically it pays for most of it except for the foam or is bandages. If you can afford it, some not all physical therapist know how to treat us oddly I went to Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan like four times. No one new what it Was. was a real nightmare. He had a home care nurse tell me it was because I ate broth one day and then I got lymphedema the next. I was miserable at the time and my sweet, sweet husband, who is kind, compassionate, loving,. when the nurse was ready to leave, my husband, Alex score deserve to the door, and he paused for a minute and told her don’t ever come back here. She was nasty to begin with. wish you all the luck in the world in God’s mighty blessings. Margie
Heavenly Father bless you abundantly, Chuck, thank you for helping us all to understand this better and giving us the knowledge to defend against this modern lifestyle assault against our well-being from lifestyle and the food industry. I don't have lipodema, this was in my suggested videos and looked intriguing and I have to say I really like this. I even took a couple screen shots for reference. Amazing information! I have noticed conflicting opinions in the comments about what works and what doesn't. If I have learned anything during my studies of this disease, it is that each person has individual needs, symptoms, triggers, and successes (I was diagnosed with Primary Lymphedema over 40 years ago, and was just recently told that it has progressed to include Lipedema). I am so thankful that I have many suggestions from various people about what works--I can work with my PT and primary doctor to figure out what works best for my own body. If one way or food plan doesn't work, I can try another. Thank you to everyone that has posted their successes and failures--I'll keep plugging along to figure out what works for me!
Was diagnosed with secondary lymphedema, came across Chuck Ehrlich book, the dietary guidelines along with compression boots 2 times a day, have given me great success, primary phyicans have been of no help, they state they don't get much training in this area.
linda-- just a rhetorical question for our doctors, who give us excuses like 'we didn't study this in school'. I must ask, if we're smart enough to learn these things years after we got out of school, why aren't they? Sorry, had to say it!
Chuck... you're the most amazing expert that I have ever listened to, met, worked with or read, in this subject! I will follow your work and as a professional in this field, respect you deeply, forever! THANK you, sir!❤
I am so happy, I came across this video today. I know it's the information, I have been searching for. I took notes on everything and I plan to follow his advice. I thank you for this wonderful video.
We need livestock raised on diverse pasture. Products from livestock raised on diverse pasture ('weedy' is great) have more omega threes, fewer omega sixes than conventionally raised, CAFO livestock. If you purchase or raise livestock this way you have much healthier meats, eggs and dairy. If they are mob grazed on diverse pasture, even better. Studies show this.
Keto diet took care of it for me. I started getting bat wings and squishy cellulite when I was 12, and I grew up in a healthy household, we ate all homemade food, low fat, very little sugar. I became an exercise fiend at age 12, always dieted/ starved myself, under ate and over exercised. I finally went keto in my late 20s and the fat evaporated and I was a solid size 2-4 for about 15 years until life changing injuries happened. My exercise almost disappeared and I got sloppy about my eating and the bat wings came back. I have all of the co-symptoms: severe pcos and extremely high estrogen, also since I was about 12. I’ve had lots of systemic infections with swollen lymph nodes all over my body from childhood until I went keto. I’m finally getting more exercise again after 6 years of PT, doing more fasting, hoping to be normal again.
Your lymphatic system is a system like your circulatory system. However it does not have the valves that push the fluids along like your blood system. It depends on you walking to move the fluids along. Inactivity leads to fluids collecting in the legs.
I am new to my lipodema diagnosis. I also got diagnosed with varicose veins that are underneath my fat. I also have type 2 diabetes. I appreciate you taking the time--over 15 years--studying lipedema and lymphedema. Thank you!

Restaurants all use bad (and cheap) vegetable oil, even even expensive ones. When I stopped eating out due to Covid, I suddenly started losing weight, although I ate the same food at home. Just eating out on weekends was enough to cause problems, because of restaurant vegetable oils.
The pandemic helped me clean up my diet too. After keto, as I was doing it eating oils with abandon, raised my total cholesterol, I cut out all oil. I know now that seed oils are the worst, but I feel better just getting my oil from the whole foods they come in. And, of course, I pay attention to avoiding foods high in Omega-6 or oxalates, the latter of which is hard on the kidneys. Congratulations on your magnificent success! Best wishes on your journey.
I have lymphedema and am obese. I am in bad shape. I also have other health issues that may be connected. I am in pain and have suffered for MANY YEARS. I could not find a doctor that knew anything about this...., so I really haven't been appropriately diagnosed plus not getting the right or proper care. 😕
Its not too late though: See a good doctor to make sure there are no causes in your body accounting for your lymphoedema. Only after that you should try out the above remedies. Wish you all the best
Those with Lipedema need to look into the carnivore diet. So many women are getting amazing results, including me. I’m still a work in progress but I’m gradually working it all out. Keeping insulin low seems to be of massive benefit.
@@vanessahollenbach85Why? People who are suffering are ready to do anything, because doctors fail and pills don't work! A diet is an easiest way to cure. Carnivore diet is an elimination diet which is known to reduce inflammation. It's great for those who want to find out if it's carbs which cause all this swelling. Even cardiologists say, one can try a / any diet for 8 weeks and see if it helps, if not- one is free to stop it.
Sorry, it is NOT really about eating fat, it is about the inability to process junky oxidized fat (liquid oils used at high temperatures for example). It binds with sugary carbs and creates havoc in your gut and colon. It really is an insulin resistance, sugar and carb issue, NOT a fat issue. Intermittent dieting (rotating OMAD, 16:8 and 20:4), Autophagy fasting (alternate day fasting of cycles of 24 to 36 hrs) and Gluten and Dairy-free clean keto diet with the meals you do eat - it makes it go away by 90%. It is not the fat you are eating, it is the fact you are eating sugar with BAD fats that respond poorly in your body and prevent your body from processing the food, and then you bloat and that bloat has to go somewhere. Eat-in moderation, but STOP eating sugar and excessive carbs (live on less than 100 grams of carbs a day if you exercise and ONLY 50 grams a day if you don't). And healthy fats -avocado and coconut, grass-fed butter, and animal fat that are raised to eat grass and biologically appropriate diets. You will nearly cure it. For a complete cure, you need Liposuction and lymph drainage but NO ONE wants to admit that because then insurance is going to have to pay for it.
I could do without dairy but cannot drink coffee without milk or cream, cannot use non-dairy creamers because of their content. Do you have any suggestion for me? Thanks
@@PaulineHendricks-wt9oc I'm not the OP, so apologies for butting in... but, most people do consider small amounts of dairy to be part of the carnivore diet, which is basically a stricter keto diet. If dairy is causing your issues to worsen, I would personally stop drinking coffee (it'll suck for a while, but if it's benefitting your health...). But if it's not causing you any trouble, I wouldn't worry about a little bit of milk in your coffee. Ultimately, everyone's gut is different and you just need to find what works for you. I'd say, from a keto perspective, cutting down your carbs/sugar is much more important than completely cutting out dairy! Obviously, I don't know if that's still true from a lipodema perspective, though.
Oh! One more thing. I could be wrong, but I think the sugar in dairy comes from lactose. You can get lactose-free milk. So that might be something to look into?
I can relate to the GUT issues, gluten and sugar I am really working on the carbohydrate cravings baked goods and maize meal I have started a fermentation business doing all sorts of fermented foods and drinks hopefully it will assist more people Thank you for this presentation

Thank you for this video! I learned about causes of lymphedema I’d never heard before. I’ve had 4 sentinel lymph nodes removed with a breast cancer lumpectomy and have berm terrified of getting lymphedema ever since. You’ve calmed my fears quite a bit as 10 years ago I switched to mostly vegan Whole Foods plant diet with plenty of big green salads, green smoothies and seeds, berries and beans. Occasionally eat animal products as a condiment, unfortunately desserts are a downfall on occasion as are tortilla chips at a restaurant. But my diet by far is more healthy than unhealthy. I also have regularly had at least 12 hours between dinner and breakfast for years. Funny how the most important things are under our own control snd doctors and even physical therapists don’t have a clue about diet being a major factor in this!! I’m grateful. Thank you.
Ive never had this before but …Weeks after pacemaker surgery I now have it. It’s a lymphatic circulatory thing. I suspect my lymph system was compromised during surgery - not that anyone is going to admit that. But heck it’s a risk so they should just add it to the risk list. And get on with fixing it. But no - I have to push for a diagnosis that is obvious!!

Since, I had infections in my arm, constant swelling and difficulty to do certain activities. A good doctor should be able to establish the cause of your lymphedema in the upper arm. IF the scar is so bad and deep so as to obstruct the lymph flow, then may be they should refer you to a surgeon for further assessment and possible treatment? I hope this helps
I have had a fatty liver for several years. The last couple of years, I have developed edema in the legs, but much more pronounced in the left leg. It has progressed and is following the stages of lymphedema. But when I mentioned lymphedema to my doctor(before it progressed to "stage 2"), he shrugged it off. Sounds like I was right. So now that I have provided my diagnosis, I need to provide myself with a treatment plan if I can. I guess I'll keep giving my doctor thousands of dollars though. I don't know. It's a long, lonely, depressing, uncertain road.
The same with me. Keep claiming and professing, God’s promise that he is our provider. He has lead us this far against the enemy’s attack and assured us we have the victory thru our Lord Jesus Christ. 🙏
docs hardly know zip about lymphedema.. eat foods that are anti inflammatory to you, keep moving (I swim) , I take many herbal teas and plant supplements that are diuretic (Burdock root being a key one along with ginger, turmeric, dandelion root .) drink gobs of it and water... keep researching .. check out LE&RN ,,, and other lymph care vlogs... you teach the docs..

Beef tallow is not a rich source of polyunsaturated fatty acids, with only 3.45 percent in grain-fed and 1.9 percent of the total in grass-fed. Thus, while even grain-fed beef tallow has a much lower content of polyunsaturated fatty acids than modern vegetable oils, the amount found in grass-fed tallow is much lower and similar to that found in the coconut products that dominate the traditional diets of Pacific Islanders, who have been extensively studied and shown to be free of heart disease. This would allow the use of tallow in the context of a mixed diet that includes other foods naturally rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as fatty fish, while still keeping the overall intake of these fatty acids low and similar to that found in successful traditional diets. Grass-fed beef is often promoted as healthy because of a lower saturated fatty acid content. But saturated stearic acid was 36 percent higher in grass-fed beef (17.45 percent versus 12.8 percent). Levels of sixteen-carbon palmitic acid, considered “atherogenic” because in some studies it raises cholesterol levels slightly, were virtually the same in both samples. Thus, in equally fatty cuts of beef, there would be a higher content of saturated fatty acids in the grass-fed beef. In many traditional diets where the fattiest cuts and the fat itself were sought out, intake of these saturates would likely be considerably higher.

Thank you so much for this video. I have been doing Dr Eric Berg’s healthy keto, OMAD and 2,3,4 day fasting for 3 months. I had stage 2 Lipedema, am 5.0’ and started at 70kgs. In that time I have been only eating the suggested Lipedema benefitting foods in this video and lost 5kgs. The last 7 days I started taking L-arganine and Diosmin supplements, (these were the only ones I found available to Australia) and I have lost 3kgs! What is absolutely thrilling for me is it has all come off my lipo legs. I no longer have that start of lipo fat protruding from my hips and my legs are starting to take shape. Thank you so much! After 40 years of trying every possible diet, herb, training, therapy... I finally have something that works.
I'm so pleased for you, and as I too have lipoedema, stage 2-3, I'm interested in your success. Interestingly, I was taking L-arginine in a sleep supplement about 10 years ago and I found that it slowed the progression of my lippy...although I wasn't actually aware of that until just now being attributed to L-arginine...wow moment! I shall be looking into supplementing my diet with that.
@@CelticSpirit7 I stopped taking these for a month cause I was taking too many supplements and doing prolonged fasting that affected my kidney function. I got that all sorted and my Dr has okayed me to take the Lipedema supplements again. When I stopped taking them I didn’t lose any weight. As soon as I started taking them again the weight started coming off again. Also recently I reduced my fat intake to only 30 grams a day, no coffee, minimal dairy, only 3 Brazil nuts per day and really losing weight fast. Doing keto Maria Emmerich way
Love Dr. Berg. His work helped me lose 25 pounds since 1/1/21. No idea why I have lymphedema and feet/LL still swell and the only correlation I have noticed is its worse when the weather is hot (even if I don’t go outside) that tells me there may be a barometric component to it. I have barometric vertigo and am highly sensitive overall. Who knows, I’ll try the protocol and see if it helps. Best to you in your progress against this most annoying of conditions.
Can you recommend a brand of Diosmin that does not contain all of the other ingredients (ie horse chestnut, other herbs, etc). I just want the pure Diosmin. Also, how much /dosage of diosmin do you take per day? Thanks for your help!! Greatly appreciate it.
@@AxelSituation I couldn’t find one that ships to Australia. I take 2 early morning and 2 evening. The other stuff in diosmin complex is recommended to take by chuck Ehrlich to help with Lipedema.
The advice to minimize fats goes contrary to Gillian Szollos's very high fat ketogenic diet that she has found helpful. Avoiding all the processed foods and sugars is consistent and important. I find that alcohol, sodium and pretty much any carbs trigger my lipedema.

@@whisperingsage Saturated fats are good. I think due to the body's problem metabolizing fat it has to be somewhat restricted. If eating meat it must be 100% grass fed grass finished to get the lower inflammation causing omega 3s.
I think he is saying avoid long chain triglycerides (vegetable oils etc)...this ones are the ones you have to avoid. the Keto diet is based on Short chain and medium chain triglycerides the good fats that are absorbed in the small intestines without the employment of the lymph nodes.
@@whisperingsage Yeah I tend to do better with animal fats and lower carbs but some people really can also find a non inflammatory diet with this method.. I think both agree on the sugar being the culprit and would be interesting to do tests showing that the sugars are the part of the equation...and whole foods with intermittent fasting works depending on personal metabolic and will have to be customized.
Yeah right?! I pretty much am shocked at his food lists. No way I will follow this advice. It will lead to heart and blood vessel issues. Cutting gluten, sugar and limiting dairy I do agree with. But a primarily meat/egg based diet is what’s gonna help here with a small amount of certain plants if you tolerate them. And other than that, just gently move your body as much as possible.
I'm 1 week into a restriction diet to cure my lymphatic autoimmune issues. My legs fill with fluid after standing for a while. Gets very bad at the end of the day. Legs very heavy with pitting edema. Been this way for 10 years after coming off another restriction diet too suddenly. My current diet is organic vegan paleo... no processed foods, no grains, no gluten, no legumes, no corn, no peanuts, no meat, no eggs, no dairy (I'm vegan anyway), no added sugars. All whole foods, plant based, but without the grains and peanuts. What I eat... sweet potato, most veggies, most fruits, most nuts, tofu, tempeh, kimchi, kefir, kombucha, water. All organic too. Fixing whatever I did 10 years ago that messed up my gut microbiome, with natural foods and fermented foods. In 1 week I'm starting to think I'm cured, but don't want to jinx it so early. I had every test done, lymph tests and scans, heart tests, vein tests and scans, seen doctors, nature paths and allergy specialists with no answers. I tried going gluten free a few times, but it never helped. I'm thinking maybe it was/is peanuts??
The only thing that really helped me was liposuction. (I am an exceptional healthy eater and used to exercise 4-5 times a week but nothing worked.) Now, 10 kg lighter, I’m feeling much better and even the swelling due to lymphedema decreased
Cheryl Lynn my doctor said that research suggests it might be a hormonal issue , plus it’s hereditary....we just weren’t that lucky. Keeping my fingers crossed for your surgery. It’s so worth it!
For some of us it’s not as simple as “watching your diet”. I have primary lymphedema (left leg) since I was 14. I am now 65. It is well maintained. I do not have any weight problems. Looking at the diet pros and cons... much of the suggested foods such as vegetables, leafy greens, legumes, nuts etc seem fine, except for someone like me who also has systematic nickel sensitivity. I actually can only eat dairy and meat to ensure limitations in ingesting nickel. I did a carnivore diet with some real success, but my cholesterol soared to 446 forcing me to now be on Repatha as the only cholesterol med I can tolerate, and am back to eating vegetables and suffering with chronic itching because of the nickel. I eat no sugar whatsoever, but I do use salt which helps manage my sodium levels flushed out with diuretics for lymphedema. I’m anaphylactic allergic to eggs and fish limiting my diet even further. It’s a fight every day with nutrition, but I am diligent in managing the lymphedema with manual drainage, compression wraps and exercise.
@@mattikarosenthal3298 hello. It is a manual manipulation of the lymphatics through a systematic massage of the key lymphatic drainage areas of the body to stimulate lymph flow. ( think light petting of a cat- not heavy pressure Swedish massage).
manual drainage is whereby pressure is applied on the affected limb to move the lymph fluid away from the limb towards the site of its drainage (ie location of the nearest lymphnodes)
I have the same issue. Started in my arms around 12 yrs old. Terrible nickel allergy and also other metals. I have tried a variety of different diets from carnivore to veganism and none of them did much good. Diet is a small piece of the puzzle. He made way too many generalizations and missed the most important thing is the quality of the food you eat. It needs to be as close to nature as possible. No processing or GMO or pesticides. Same for the meat you eat. The animal needs to have a diet that is natural for them with out processed additives, pesticides, gmos, etc. Nutrition is the tip of the iceberg. Once you get that straight there are a million other things you have to do to reduce symptoms and get healthy. I have e been working on it for 50 yrs and still haven't achieved it.
Diuretics are bad for lymphedema. I was in them for 10 years and got so sick of getting headaches from them I stopped and didn’t tell the Dr. Come to find out it is terrible for Lymphedema. I got compression leg pumps from my vein Dr and with use 2X a day for an hour. I used to gain up to 21lbs of fluid bug now it stays around 5lbs to 12lbs. I’m in Mi and there’s really no one who knows much about it. I used to get cellulitis 4 to 6 times a year and now it’s 1 to 2. Can’t wear compressions because they cut my skin and it gets infected. I did find micro massaging Bioflec legging that really help. Lots of PT and walking. I also use a big yoga ball and lean my weight on it as I do squats against the wall but now that I have to get hip surgery that’s a no go right know. Something you might want to try is not eating past 7pm. Hang in there I know it’s hard. I keep getting down to 160lbs all to have it sabotage in 2 weeks and end up at 180lbs with a bad flare up.
Omega 3 fats come from pasture based animals. And mine are NOT skinny. They are huge compared to the squab they sell in the store. They are heritage breeds. They eat bugs and also get a full nutrient pellet and vitamin D and electrolytes in their water.

I have had stage 4 lymphedema . I am reversing it by eating a primarily meat based, low carb, no to low fibre diet. I agree that reducing/eliminating sugar/processed foods is a vital step to treating lymphedema. I disagree w low fat eating.
How and who will diagnose? My family doctor has no clue about why my feet swell so badly in the Florida climate to the point that I cannot walk the pain is so bsd.

Can Helicobacter pylori bacteria be a significant contributor to lymphedema? After having a bleeding stomach ulcer and found to have H. pylori, I completed the triple antibiotic irradication treatment. I've since learned that H.pylori is associated with all kinds of inflammatory medical conditions. I've noticed my prior chronic cough condition improved significantly ( I could stop the various prescribed medications ). I've noticed my chronic recurring Stage one pedal edema also has improved. Is there an association of H.pylori bacteria with lymphedema??
@Hugh I think you would do well to repopulate the good intestinal bacteria that your triple antibiotic treatment for H. pylori wiped out. Get a good brand of probiotics with CFU's in the Billions, not millions. Also, don't forget to nurture the good bacteria by feeding them pre-biotics like sauerkraut, kimchee, kefir, yogurt (plain, unsweetened, add your own fruit) and inulin. You might want to do some research on SIBO if restoring your gut bacteria doesn't help. Good luck to you.
I have cancer at 30 and had a hysterectomy and they took out my Lymph Nodes and now 73 and still have fat legs full of fluid, if i get a cut my legs leak water and over time my shoe size has gone from 7 to 10. When my legs are straped tight with bandages they shrink back to normal to have cancers removed from my legs. When healed and bandages removed get fat again. I was checked and was told i carried 3.8 liters of fluid in my right leg and 2.5 in my left. Has made my life missable.
So true about fatty liver. I loved to eat fruit. When I switched to low carb and ate mest, butter, full fat dairy and low carb veggies, the fatty liver (and chronic dermotographia) went away. I do not have lymph issues but 2 family mrmbers do.
such a great presentation. thank you so much on sharing all this information. I think besides diet, intermittent fasting and weight exercise can help a lot too.
Tessa W. The book is Lipedema and Lipedema nutritional guide by Chuck Ehrlich, I found it to be very informative, have had great success with it's dietary guidelines. More than any physican has been able to provide.
I have severe lymphedema in my left hip. The only way I'm able to control it is subcutaneous lymphatic drainage and also through nutrition and avoiding high environmental temperatures. I do intermittent fasting, eat low sodium, keto and only drink water.
Vegetable oils (corn, canola, safflower, sunflower, etc) are PUFA, polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, are the bad long chains. Animal fats and coconut oil and palm oil are short and medium chain. They are good (butter too)

You answered my burning question regarding going Carnivore. Thanks! I have an issue that makes my situation more complicated; I’m a T-10-12, complete paraplegic, since 2010. I tried strict carnivore for only 5 days, and no lie, I felt better to had since I fell and got paralyzed in 2010! However, I had to open my big mouth and mention what I was doing to my visiting nurse, that sees me 3 days per week for wound issues.(long story) Anyway, she said, “Oh no, I wouldn’t do that!” So, I immediately went back to eating what I felt bad on before again. No lie, my first meal, I felt horrible! I’m getting ready to commit to Carnivore again, only, I’m keeping it to myself! I’m keeping an accurate medical log during this. Pray for me please friends!❤Thank you, everyone!
I have lipedema. Ken Berry's BBB&E Carnivore diet has saved my life. I lost 50 pounds in 5 months and most of my lipedema pain. @@wendyluber4309 It has been over two years. Yes, I have lymphedema. My right arm is larger than my left. I have had my feet so swollen that it is difficult to see the toes. Yes, people say that once it goes so far, one cannot reduce it. I believe the body is always trying to heal itself. I took a 1/2 cup of water with a tablespoon of food grade diatomaceous earth. When a doctor wanted to wrap my swollen limbs, he took an image of my arteries. The food grade DE had cleared all the plague. But before you do DE, you must get your vitamin C levels up or you could bleed to death. Plague is an artery scab. Juice an organic lemon, best from your own tree, and mix with water....drink every morning. Give it a month before you do the DE. Ascorbic acid is not vitamin c. But DE helped the lymphedema but not a cure at all. The prolotherapy has been permanent. I would like to try it on my arms which means my shoulders and elbows. I did the prolotherapy because my knee joints had problems. I had successfully used prolotherapy on two children. That healing was also permanent. That is why I tried prolotherapy for my knee joint problems. I never expected the cure of my swollen lower legs. There needs to be a study of prolotherapy and lymphedema. Doctors are amazed that I have no swelling from my knees to my toe tips. Everything else is still swollen. The price of prolotherapy ranges widely, mostly price gouging. Ask for a set price up front...don't accept the per syringe price. The naturopath that did mine ran a special for both knees at $500 but then added an office charge on top of that. You have to get a final cost quote.
Fred, thank you for all the great information and the quick response. I am 75, probably have had this a few years but misdiagnosed as edema and wanting to give me diuretics which don’t help of course. I don't think any of us get enough physical stimulation, especially those of us who have limited mobility. In my humble opinion, we should seriously consider purchasing a long handled massaging tool that can be used daily from feet to neck in order to stimulate and increase blood flow and circulation.
I'm sure that would help. I live in Asia and have bee getting Asian massages which has helped me stay at a stage 1. Although after my menopause things swelled up a little bit more but now through diet it is being reduced again. If you can get some reflexology massage or a foot reflexology machine, this will help also.

My legs swells after long journey, is it lipodema ?

Beans make me feel horrible
Yes, look up Dr. Karen Hurd and "The Bean Protocol" she reccomends half a cup of beans 3x a day to change your life! Personally I feel better when I eat lentils. She explains how our bodies adapt to consume and process them, and why people seem to have issues in the beginning. But the key is really in the soluble fiber. If you find you can't eat beans even after allowing the adjusting period, which most people do adjust, she claims all her patients do, then just look for a fiber supplement with roughly the same amount of soluble fiber.
This lecture is what I needed to hear. I watched this a year ago and followed all the diet advice given plus daily lymphatic massage & exercise.

I also had inner elbow fat
Not only have I lost 26lb in weight this year, its gone from my knees & calves, shins & elbows and my limbs for the first time in my life look “Normal Shaped”
My lovely Lipodema Friends, this is TOUGH to follow.
But it WORKS!!!
Ps. I stopped drinking alcohol completely and would recommend the same to others to get my results ie don’t just “reduce” alcohol. It’s so worth it.

Just gone cold as I followed a low carb ultra low card and calorie. My diabetes improved so much but most of what I eat that was in that list.
Excellent seminar, now I know exactly what to avoid.
Very good advice will change my diet because I do have lymphedema. thank you Chuck.

Precisely. But unfortunately many do not realise this as the cause & the same applies to supermarket ready meals

Worst advice ever 😂😂😂
@@vanessahollenbach85 you've obviously never tried it...
Thank for this!!! I’m about to start carnivore. Keto didn’t work enough for me.
Yea you are right the carnivore diet is doing great .
This is so interesting what you said
I could do without dairy but cannot drink coffee without milk or cream, cannot use non-dairy creamers because of their content.
How do you know it can go away by 90% from that? Did you do that and manage to get rid of lipedema?
I can relate to the GUT issues, gluten and sugar

You’ve calmed my fears quite a bit as 10 years ago I switched to mostly vegan Whole Foods plant diet with plenty of big green salads, green smoothies and seeds, berries and beans. Occasionally eat animal products as a condiment, unfortunately desserts are a downfall on occasion as are tortilla chips at a restaurant. But my diet by far is more healthy than unhealthy. I also have regularly had at least 12 hours between dinner and breakfast for years. Just more of an incentive to keep up with my current eating plan.

Can you recommend a brand of Diosmin that does not contain all of the other ingredients (ie horse chestnut, other herbs, etc). I just want the pure Diosmin. Also, how much /dosage of diosmin do you take per day? Thanks for your help!! Greatly appreciate it.

Do good quality massage chairs that have the leg massager assist with Lipodema in the legs?

A specific keto diet has greatly decreased my symptoms.
This is great information, however I strongly disagree with cutting out meat.
This is exactly what naturopathic doctors preach. Evidence based medicine supporting the foundations of health.

I'd give up the veggies. Go carno, fruits and a little peanut butter is perfect. Veggies has oxalates and most is non-solulable. Good luck:)
Thank you this has been very interesting and a learning experience.
With sincere gratitude.
Would Accupunture be beneficial to the lymphatic system.
The only thing that really helped me was liposuction. (I am an exceptional healthy eater and used to exercise 4-5 times a week but nothing worked.) Now, 10 kg lighter, I’m feeling much better and even the swelling due to lymphedema decreased
Did your insurance pay for it?
Jan Levine no, unfortunately it didn’t.
@@wanderlust3292 This needs to change. Government is paying for sex change, hormones for sex change. This is not right.

My sister has lymphedema.Every dr says no treatment available.pl guide
What is manual drainage if someone could answer that for me please?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE 👍👍👍
I have had stage 4 lymphedema . I am reversing it by eating a primarily meat based, low carb, no to low fibre diet. I agree that reducing/eliminating sugar/processed foods is a vital step to treating lymphedema. I disagree w low fat eating.
I think every person's body is different regarding low fat and high fat foods.
How and who will diagnose? My family doctor has no clue about why my feet swell so badly in the Florida climate to the point that I cannot walk the pain is so bsd.
@@ritaalexander9043your primary doctor should refer you to a lymphadema specialist. I recently got a vibration plate machine that I put my feet on. I can’t fully explain the difference it’s made. My stage 4 lymphadema is disappearing everyday. It and my low carb diet have changed my life. Praying you find relief.
It wouldn’t surprised me.
@Hugh
I think you would do well to repopulate the good intestinal bacteria that your triple antibiotic treatment for H. pylori wiped out.
Good question?
How did you treat your h pylori?
Is there a transcript available on this somewhere?

Vegetable oils (corn, canola, safflower, sunflower, etc) are PUFA, polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, are the bad long chains. Animal fats and coconut oil and palm oil are short and medium chain. They are good (butter too)
Palm oil????

Dear D Gary: "Straight to the point"? What's the point? What special thing should we be eating apart from the obvious?
I had prolotherapy with dextrose in my knees. It totally reduced any and all swelling from the toes to the knees. It was permanent.
Fred, where did you get the therapy and was it lymphedema that you had? How much was the cost to you?
@@wendyluber4309
It has been over two years.
I have it in my abdomen to lower legs in first stages so last year was the first help I have received and just learning all about it and using a compression machine which helps some. Thank you for all the great information and I hope you are able to continue to lessen the effects of the disease on you. God bless you!

I am 70. I stayed at a doctor friend's home for a week. Planning to prove that I overeat, she wrote down everything she saw me eat and had made an inventory of all food in the house, including what I brought with me. She was 5 foot tall and weighed 100 pounds. I am 5 foot 10 inches and heavy. She concluded that I eat less than she does and so she could not understand why I am so heavy. Once my doctor understands that I do not overeat, they give up and say that they don't know how to help me. As I said, I did not do prolotherapy for swelling. It was serendipity surprise. All my labs are perfect. So I am not sickly, etc.
