So happy I found this channel. Haven’t been formally diagnosed with lipedema but my mum has and I have all the same symptoms. She’s had amazing results from lymphatic massage. I’ve recently lost a lot of weight from Ayurvedic lifestyle and massages that focus on elimination of toxins. I’ve still got a long way to go and it’s coming off super slowly but at least feels maintainable. Have had great weight loss success with low carb diet in the past but find it hard to maintain….but sounds like that might be the best route on top of what I’m already doing.
Wheat and grains make my joints swell and ache. Dairy puts phlegm in my throat and esophagus. I now use goat products instead of bovine ones. I will try the sensitivity test. Your brief videos are super informative. 🥰🌺
@horse__power7891 that's great detective work! Bravo for putting in the effort to figure out what your body needs. Keep it up and thank you for being here!
I too didn't realize reactions could be other than digestive. Did elimination diet and found dairy manifests in joint pain within 2 hours of eating! Now paying attention to other symptoms... trying to listen to my body more. I can actually feel inflammation leaving my body and that makes an amazing difference in what I am able to do daily!
WOW!! This is really helping me!!! because I could not place my "finger" on my problem. I knew the swelling in RIGHT leg, the lower portion (calf, ankle, foot, heel) was abnormal back in 2017. In 2019 I started a new job that allowed uniform alterations. The look on the seamstress face, when I came out of the changing room, was completely focused on my abnormal looking right lower leg. My LEFT LEG WAS NOT AS CRAZY LOOKING AS THE RIGHT, but I FELT LIKE THE ELEPHANT WOMAN. The new doctor prescribed blood pressure medicine, that I NEVER FILLED OR CONSUMED. because I knew it was NOT my pressure. This is an excellent conversation-starter for the NEW doctor I have to locate. Thank you Rebekah!!😁😁👌👌👌👌
You may want to look into lymphedema as well, if you haven’t already! It’s a different but sometimes comorbid condition, and I know one of the hallmark signs of lymphedema is swelling that is asymmetrical (more on one side than the other)
Can we be addicted to cheese? I can avoid most types of foods, have been keto for 8 years(loss 90lbs), and mostly meat for 2 years. The one food I am having so much craving for is Cheese. Not all dairy, not cottage cheese, just hard cheeses. It very hard to stop until I actually feel stuffed. I keep thinking "just a small amount" and I always eat more. And, of course I have been stuck in weight for many months😢.
It factually is. "Study Reveals that Cheese Triggers the Same Part of the Brain as Many Drugs" New research argues that cheese is addictive in a way similar to drugs because of a chemical called casein, which is found in dairy products and can trigger the brain's opioid receptors." When the liquid is removed from dairy caseins become more concentrated, therefore more addictive
Cheese actually has something ( possibly casein ) that can be very addictive . I actually find that almost anything can become addictive . I gave up sugar and became addicted to grapes . I’ve since cut that out for now .
Yes! "Cheese may be mildly addictive due to its protein casein, which your body breaks down into casomorphins. These compounds attach to dopamine receptors in your brain, possibly triggering cravings for similar foods." Casomorphins can trigger opiate like effects. I've heard that often we crave certain foods that were sensitive to.

Wow, thank you for sharing your journey! In trying carnivore/keto I started doing more electrolytes with sea salts, with painful swelling. A old sensitivity test showed I was highly reactive to sea salt, while pink Himalayan salt was fine. Swelling significantly down with in 3 days. To everyone out there walking this path, keep up the search for your body and stay strong!
@nicolesligar9796 wow! Thanks for sharing! I didn't realize you could have a sensitivity to a type of salt. Bravo to you for sticking with it and learning what your body needs. Keep up the awesome work
Celtic salt is a superior electrolyte it has more minerals then any other salt, and you only do a pinch in your mouth swish and drink with a cup of water.

I have never been tested but I think cow milk makes me feel bad. I find myself creeping around like a very old person that has trouble walking. I have joint problems and more. I am trying to find goats milk we like and only use that for milk kefir. I’m going to try making coconut milk yogurt and hope those things will be things I can enjoy. Thanks for bringing this up. I will search it out. I’ve heard these things before. I think you have put together a video that touches on this topic before. I just need to keep it in mind and find my way. Thanks!

Thank you for this informative video. I too am extremely sensitive to dairy. What does your diet look like? Like what do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also suffer from lipodema in my left leg and MS. Trying to follow a gluten and dairy free diet. Thank you for your time!
I have lipedema. Its nearly impossible for me to lose weight, I have been dealing with this problem from 10 yrs old when I started getting fat for no reason. I was a super active kid, and I have never been addicted to food. I am a normal eater. I fast 20 to 30 hours a day, and only eat one meal a day. Its taken me 4 yrs of fasting to lose 18 pounds. I am happy to find out what was wrong with me, it only took 51 yrs, but at least I know that going keto intermittent faster, it has helped me tremendously with the immflamation.
Thanks for the info; I just don’t have that kind of money for testing. Thus far I’ve figured out that cheeses cause trouble, so I’ve stopped all of them. That was really hard at first, but I rarely miss them. I also discovered that my once enjoyed vegetables have caused so much trouble for me, possibly due to the oxylates as much as to food sensitivities. I’m learning how to juggle foods as re: the oxylates, and don’t consume lectins. I’m suspecting eggs but not quite ready to stop those; I have reduced them considerably, after having increased them when on keto. Since my pain has not reduced I know I’ll need to stop them for a month to see what happens. I’ve quit heavy whipping cream (don’t have desire any more) and am considering dropping the sour cream (I won’t need it once I stop eating omelets). Then the only dairy left will be butter. It’s a slow process eliminating foods this way, but is worth it for me. I’m tired of concrete-feeling legs that interfere with my mobility. I’m 74 but my life isn’t over yet! I want to keep moving! I’m grateful for your videos. I didn’t even know what lipedema was until I discovered your videos just a few months ago; my mom and I have had all of the symptoms (except for our ankles). @maxotat you are totally right about the elimination diet. Even if you do a test you still need to test what actually happens (or doesn't) when you stop eating something. Bravo to you for putting in all the hard work the untangle what's going on with your health. I'm so glad you found us and that you are off to such a good start on your journey. Hopefully if we all keep raising our voices future generations won't have to spend their whole lives looking for answers. Doctors are gradually catching up but they need our help. Hey Rebekah, don't you have to be eating those specific foods in order to have an accurate assessment? For example, it is my understanding that for someone who has celiac, they have to have some gluten in their system in order for the test to accurately measure the immune response. So if someone had been eating gluten free for a long time, then the test may come back negative or inconclusive. I could be wrong but I remember hearing this years ago when I worked in the health food industry.
This is what Everlywell’s website says. It can only gage your sensitivity to foods you have eaten in the last 30 days or so. That’s why tests taken at different times can have different results based on what you’ve eaten.
I just took a food sensitivity test. Canola (rape seed) & spelt noodles are on my red list. My test was with hair, not blood. Seems like its not going to be as accurate. Im going to try yours. Also I haven't seen anyone talking about bioidenical estrogen replacement with lipedemia. I had regular liposuction from thights to ankles. Now 7 years later, the lipedemia is coming back and I have been on the bioidenical estrogen the last 2 years. Now Im afraid to continue taking it, uet I have osteoporosis because of low estrogen levels. You may be too young to know about this yet.
I have been on bioidentical HRT (pellet) for 2years and I think my lipedema is getting worse. My gynecologist had never heard of lipedema. I’m not sure what to do, as I love the way HRT allows me to sleep and be intimate with my husband, both necessary to life.
I have been carnivore for 2.5 months. I have horrible arthritis in knees and hands…and it seemed to get worse after starting carnivore. Anyone else have this issue? How long did it take before going away? I haven’t been diagnosed with arthritis or Lipedema. Just guessing myself. But I do use heavy cream, eggs, and dairy. 🤔
No specific helps. My diet and medical conferences doesn;t have cooberative info for your symptoms. My guess; look in detail at exactly what youi are eating. Obviously something is inflaming you. BTW Oxalates are a serious problem; almonds, almond milk, spinach and otther greens are loaded. Your symptoms correlate with (also) oxalate toxicity. Good luck.
@@MsElaine122 thank you! I am only doing carnivore, which is meats, eggs, some dairy. No vegetables not nuts. I DO know I react to those! So now I’m guessing it’s more the whipping cream. 🤦🏻♀️
When going carnivore, the body might want to start to get rid of oxalates, since they are no longer coming in, the body's first ever real winter. Look up Sally K Norton here on UA-cam. She has also written an excellent book, "Toxic Superfoods". The transition to carnivore can be tricky since most of us have eaten foods rich in oxalates our whole life. Good Luck!
@joelsvision is sounds like you might benefit from working with a lipedema-informed nutritionist who can help get to the bottom of what's going on. Feel free to email me at sturdywoman.com/about/ if you want tips for finding one.
@@sturdywoman thank you! I am moving from WI to AK in 3 weeks. It seems there are lipedema centers in Anchorage? Hoping to figure some things out once we get settled. I will email then.
My coworker has this and I used to feel bad for her but she eats literally everything, brags about all the stuff she eats at home.. can't wait to hear what she had over the weekend
What about those who have had surgery & radiation therapy for cancer in pelvis? Does this apply to them as well? Does the lymphoedema in this category not relate to an iatrogencic obstruction of lymph and do you reckon they too will benefit from a diet elimination ? apart from compression stockings that is usually prescribed for them. Thanks
HI my lovely Rebekah, great ℹ but to be honest my GP said on line food testing kits are not accurate and the best way to do it is keep a diary log and also that was also the same advice from the lymphatic clinic but I eat everything in moderation and follow 80/20 rule 😊 💋 have a good week ahead ❤. Keep the uploads coming x❤
My daughter and I did the EverlyWell test last year; I asked my doctor about it, and she said it was extremely accurate. I've found this to be true from our elimination diet, as well. The test said that my daughter was highly reactive to egg whites, and very reactive to egg yolks and cow dairy; eliminating those has helped her more than anything else we've tried over the last few years (she's autistic and has lupus, in addition to a whole list of other problems).
@kamwatson6128 hi! Food diaries and elimination diets are also a reliable (though not always quick!) way to untangle things too. I think your moderation comment is key. As they say, sometimes the poison is in the dose. I hope you are doing well! BIG HUGS
Strangely diet coke increases my pain, joint stiffness, swelling, inflammation twofold. I only discovered this when I didn't drink it for a month and then had a glass. The excrutiating pain the next day and an inability to walk (again) proved how this drink reacts with me. Bread...makes me fall asleep. I almost have narcolespy instantly. I'm almost 60...and suddenly I have all these food sensitivity issues. I know when it started ..when I accidently ate something with rumensin in it. Rumensin is toxic to humans. I have to be so careful what I eat. Things I've been fine with for decades now cause swelling and extreme pain. One thing I have to ask, does anyone wake with extremely painful extremities. It is like the blood flow has almost stopped . It's not pin and needles...it is pain .
@GorgyPorgy65 I grew up drinking a lot of Diet Coke too and noticed changes in my body when I stopped. There is increasing evidence that artificial sweeteners (like the ones in Diet Coke) do rough things to our bodies. See this article www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7014832/ and also do a Google search for "artificial sweeteners and insulin". Your note about waking up with pain sounds like something to consult with a doctor about. If you suspect it is circulatory you might try a vein specialist. Sending big hugs
@@sturdywoman Really enjoy your posts....you are such a positive vibe person. I actually did not realise how sick diet pepsi/coke was making me feel until I stopped. Mobility returned, brain fog lifted...enthusiasm came back. Thank you :)
@marjorielynne259 bio-individuality is such an important piece of this! You are right that what works for one person might not be right for another person. It's all about learning the needs of your specific body
Q: Have you re-introduced or experimented with butter since it was on your mild sensitivity list, even though cow’s milk is on your high list? Just curious. I know that butter is technically dairy, but has much less casein and lactose, etc. Thanks for all your videos. I’m learning so much here. ❤
@Paws-A-Lot I do sometimes have a dab of butter here and there and can tolerate it, but I notice swelling really quickly if I go above that amount (ie 2-3 tablespoons in a day). I recently bought some goat butter, which has a slightly different taste but so far I seem to be tolerating it well. Thanks for being here and on the journey with us!
I'm so fed up of the feet pain that I've pulled the plug on milk and eggs because I know that eggs give me headaches and milk makes me congested. I love cream and eggs but I've gone over to bullet coffee and I gotta be honest I'm noticing a few good results even though it's just 7 days but I'm going to continue. The sneezing has stopped and the constant 💨😂
@jartotable that's great! In my experience, once you realize how much better you feel without it you stop wanting it. Ha! Try to give it a month then add a bit back in and see what happens. You got this
When I was a vegan, I couldn't walk my "arthritis" was so bad. Until, I found Dr. Ken Berry and started carnivore. OMGoodness I couldn't believe it! After 7 days, the immflamation was gone! I could walk again with no pain! I had never felt that good! As a vegan I was sick, hungry all the time, and in a lot of pain. I never felt good or satisfied. It was the best advice from a doctor I have ever gotten. Now I fast 20 to 30 hours a day, I never eat lower then 18 hours. It's helped me greatly!
@@lindaterrell9366 Carnivore is eating only foods that are processed by animals, meat Bacon, eggs, chicken, fish, seafood, and a small amount of cheese.
Hello my name is John French from the UK i have Lipedema on the left-hand side of my stomach i would love if you can help me with my Foods Thanks a lot 🙏 xx
I am wondering if actual regular fasting might help. Maybe 2-3 days per month or even week. It is advised as a metabolic way of helping kill cancer cells by starving them of glucose and switching the body to ketones. Perhaps it could reduce the number of fat cells. Dr Thomas Segfried has videos on metabolic approaches. He argues inflammation can cause cancer because it would impede oxygen to the mitochondria. If they do not die, they can convert to a process where they start fermenting glucose and glutamine for fuel. Therefore it is even more important we try to reduce inflammation.
@lkr2025 fasting has been in my toolkit for about three years and I love what it does for my swelling and inflammation. I originally did a lot of alternate day fasting but more recently I switched to less frequent 3-day fasts. I have an old video on fasting here: ua-cam.com/video/5FJynEQd8Xg/v-deo.html
@laurab5889 when I was first diagnosed I had a physical therapist do MLD on me for a few months. She gradually weaned me off it, though, since I was in good compression and using a pump. Over time, all my conservative treatments (including keto) have reduced me swelling so much I don't find I need it. It certainly helped put me on the right path, though, and taught me what it feels like when the lymph is moving out. If your insurance will cover it and you can find someone, give it a try!
@CuteAnne100 I haven't but I have done a lot of other lab testing through my doctor that I will make a video about soon. You are referring to the one combined with the Vitamin D test?
I was vegetarian for 3 yrs and gained 40lbs. I looked 6 months pregnant. I went more carnivore after I found out that I have a ragweed and citric acid allergy along with a suspected nickel allergy. There’s a lot of foods connected to that. I cut out wheat, soy, oats, cocoa, and a few other things and lost 20lbs on 3 months. I no longer have hives. I do have a vibration plate and need to use it more regularly. I also had bloodwork done recently and my Vitamin d level was extremely low. So I’m taking 2500-IU of Vitamin D3. The pain in my bones has lessened. Along with the cramping in my calves.
@hdevere1 thanks for noticing! Yes, I recently dropped a bunch of swelling and inflammation I picked up working my previous job. Stress can do crazy things to our bodies!

@snezhanafiuortt9859 thank YOU for being here
Hey Rebekah, don't you have to be eating those specific foods in order to have an accurate assessment? For example, it is my understanding that for someone who has celiac, they have to have some gluten in their system in order for the test to accurately measure the immune response. So if someone had been eating gluten free for a long time, then the test may come back negative or inconclusive. I could be wrong but I remember hearing this years ago when I worked in the health food industry.
This is what Everlywell’s website says. It can only gage your sensitivity to foods you have eaten in the last 30 days or so. That’s why tests taken at different times can have different results based on what you’ve eaten.
Thanks for this video, it's really helpful
@user-ly8xr2gb7q that YOU for watching. Sending good vibes for healing
I'm retiree and can't afford to purchase these high-priced tests.
You could try an elimination diet. I am going through that process now.
@@balletcolumbus9867 yes exactly!! Why arent the experts talking about this?
Will testing hair strand instead of blood give the same accurate results?
@@kathleensanderson3082aww bless her.. All the best 🤗
It's not pin and needles...it is pain .
bread makes me sleepy also.
Yes I do daily. I don't have a lipodema diagnosis yet but have all the symptoms. I have genetic Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome lipodema is a common symptom.
Oooohhh, love me some pork rinds! I can't eat too many though because the porkiness upsets my stomach.
@wk1810 right?! I have started buying smaller bags because once it's open.... it's gone :D
Ok but there are others source of dairy out there! Have you ever heard of sheep’s cheese ? Goat cheese??those are my 2 favorite things
Pork rinds have tons of salt. Salt causes me inflammation and kidney problems and it affects my sleep.
@marjorielynne259 bio-individuality is such an important piece of this! You are right that what works for one person might not be right for another person. It's all about learning the needs of your specific body
I also was adding nut pods to my coffee but gave it up completely bc of a man made ingredient it contains which doesn't appeal to me.
@@sturdywomanVery interesting! Thanks for sharing.
I switched to bullet coffee as well, I ❤ it!
@jartotable that's great! In my experience, once you realize how much better you feel without it you stop wanting it. Ha! Try to give it a month then add a bit back in and see what happens. You got this
My foot pain stopped when I went carnivore AND increased my zinc, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, and ACV to manage oxalate release.
I can not eat vegetables because of my arthritis and Lipedema makes my arthritis worse. I went carnivore and am happy with it!
You can't eat any vegetables? There are so many kinds of vegetables.
What is Carnivore?
@johnfrench3064 I'm not a nutritionist, but if you send me a message through SturdyWoman.com I can send you some ideas for finding one
@@sturdywoman great, thank you! 💛
Have u ever tried lymphatic drainage & if so did it help?
@laurab5889 when I was first diagnosed I had a physical therapist do MLD on me for a few months. She gradually weaned me off it, though, since I was in good compression and using a pump. Over time, all my conservative treatments (including keto) have reduced me swelling so much I don't find I need it. It certainly helped put me on the right path, though, and taught me what it feels like when the lymph is moving out. If your insurance will cover it and you can find someone, give it a try!
I’m trying to learn about lipedemia because I have family members who don’t know. Dr Ben Bikman just posted on lipedema possible causes.
@rebecca3745 thank you for being an ally and an advocate! I love Dr. Bikman. I'll look for that post!
Have u tried the inflammation test by the same testing?
You look Great Rebekah, have you lost more weight?
@hdevere1 thanks for noticing! Yes, I recently dropped a bunch of swelling and inflammation I picked up working my previous job. Stress can do crazy things to our bodies!
I thought this video would be about foods that promote limpedema not tailored to yirus
@vthetravellingwriter sorry you were disappointed! People asked to know more "exactly" what I eat
What insurance pays for this
Great video but i wish you’d look at the camera; at us !!!!
@mercibeaucoup2486 thanks for that feedback! I thought I was ;)
