However, I thought people wanted players to have more options, even if they were useless ones like Undraw.
Before I watched your video, I already dropped undraw, but what I did do was aiming for 3 signs too intensely. However, I noticed I had to redraw or draw so many times extra instead of playing cards, not buffing anytime at all. I eventually just started playing cards trying to aim them on the right dps. Even if I didn’t get the right cards for the right dps, I played them anyway, because 3% increased damage is still 3% in stead of waiting 30secs and not giving a buff at all. I guess people might judge me, but for me this gives me a way better feeling which feels just right even if it may not be ideal. Thank you for your videos, they helped me soo much 😁

I've just started leveling Astro to 90. It's my last job to get to max level(outside of crafting/gathering and blue mage). Even though I have been playing this game almost since it came out, I still come back to your videos just to refresh my memory on a particular job. They have been an invaluable source of information. Thank you for all your hard work from a fellow Midgarsomr player.
13:20 I was today years old when I learned that they have different colors. I just memorized the symbols, which isn't easy after coming back to the game after six months. Cheers.
Added in the most recent patch is a nice upgrade. Redraw will never give you a card sharing the same sign as the one you were holding when you hit it. That guarantees 2 signs for Astrodyne and makes 3 signs about a 50/50 chance
An outstanding guide you’ve made here! Until I had to pay attention to different job icons, I had no idea which DPS icons were melee/ranged or even the name associated with each one. What’s helped me is left clicking on a party member in the list and hitting “view search info.” It shows a list of every job they’ve leveled with its icon by category. I’ll pull it up on myself and set it off to the side at the beginning of a raid or if I get confused in a dungeon. It’s a great little cheat sheet to check while learning! The best AST starting tip I’ve gotten so far was from Jolsn FFXIV’s guide. Bring your party list closer to the middle of the screen. Set up a vertical hotbar on the left so that the icons line up with each party member name (you might have to mess with the scaling and placement a bit but it’s worth it). Create a play button macro for each target on that hotbar. He even gives a list of macros that you can copy and paste into each slot so you don’t have to write them yourself. It takes one step out of having to draw, then target the desired player, then press play. Instead you just draw and click the macro button next to the target name.
I'm bad at Healer because I'm not as fast with the buttons as I used to be. Mostly I just play healer because I want to know what the stories are and then go back to DPS. You're guides help me fake being good at the jobs so thank you.

had an astro who kept healing me for 69k in the expert dungeons with macrocosmos when I was a WAR right as I ran out of bloodwhetting, that was one of the smoothest runs I've done
For cards, I set up an extra hotbar with 8 macros, and what they do is giving my current card to a specific player (example, macro nr. 7 gives the card to player 7). It makes the button bloat even worse, but it makes up for it by making giving the card to who I want way easier, since I don't have to change target back and forth between the enemy/tank and who gets the buff. For anyone interested, the macro is /ac "Play" Copypaste the line about 7-8 times for each macro (helps with consistency if you have bad ping) and change the number from 1 to 8 for each macro. Top it off with /micon "play" (changes the macro icon to the play button, and it even changes automatically to show the card like the "normal" ability) and you're good to go
That’s something similar I do with a lot of skills that target specific players, like thunderclap, aetherial manipulation, etc minus being a macro. Though I always forget about it though
The problem with macros are that they can't be queued like with GCDs and oGCDs. They're also dependant on ping, hardware, and server tick rate. All of this can cause severe GCD clipping especially when you double weave

I kinda main healer and play all 3 healers prior Endwalker. (4 after I tried Sage for couples of leveling roulette, and quite enjoyable) Fortunately, I reach lv50 Astro when the Endwalker came out. So kinda lucky that I get into Astro after the rework was done. Now I really enjoy Astro very much (much enough I changed from WHM to Astro) In fact, I just go have way through 5.3 and really struggle about how and when to use Neutral Sect. This clarifies things a lot. Basically, I just use for enhancing my healing potency and think the shield as a bonus, or toggle it when either stack-up marker or raid wide damage (either before using Collective Unconscious or Unconscious on CD) seems legit enough I can think of for Neutral Sect. Thank you
Thank you so much! AST is the only class I have left under level 70, but it has been really confusing to me for some reason. This video REALLY helps make sense of everything!
Oh thank you so much. I've been leveling healers and I wanted to level AST to endgame, but I wasn't sure how much their toolkit has changed since EW release. You made this just in time for me.
I might be the odd one out of the bunch, but Astrologian became my favorite healer in this game because of how busy the job is. I just enjoy the versatile kit it has and the fact that there's other things to do outside of your one button attack and whenever healing isn't needed at the time. Loved the job the moment I picked it up last year when I was in Heavensward and it's still my main healer now. Although I do agree that Lord and Lady of Crowns could be condensed to one button like in the PvP modes.

Enjoying consulting this guide. I'm almost at lvl 40 on Astro as I write this and I've been enjoying myself blazing through low level dungeons. The card thing is rather hassle free and I do not really worry about it. Contrasting this mainly with how Scholar felt in the early dungeons, I do miss Eos's Embrace but as a trade off Astrologian feels truly unchained, I don't really need to play around Aether charges to bust out the big heals. I also do miss Ruin II from Scholar but Lightspeed is interesting enough on its own.
Reached level 90 today. Took me those 8 months because I had been playing on and off. Generally I really enjoy the high octane gameplay Astrologian has, multiple things to track and press with the right timing. Buffing friendly damage is great. However I just generally feel less safe playing AST than Scholar. And a big part of it is Lightspeed as well as the lack of a fairy. I also cannot stress how nice Ruin II and Expediency are for mobility. When I want a more hectic and channeling healing experience, I definitely want to go Astro. But for general day to day stuff, Scholar is still my preference.
Thank you so much for the video - it was absolutely fantastic. I love the job - it's why I started playing Final Fantasy XIV Online in the first place. But I have to say -- the damage output? "Subpar" doesn't even begin to describe it. It might not matter when grouped with other doing dungeons, trials, raids and whatnot, but when forced into solo duties, it becomes tragically apparent. After dying three times in rapid succession in the "Worthy of Her Back" quest, I decided to take an extended break until patch 7.0 is released (I understand this will be the second time that the job has been retooled), as it's supposed to resolve balancing issues. If so, I sincerely hope that damage output is at the top of the list of things that were addressed
ah yes. button bloat the class. I love it. This is the only class where I have 4 hotbars for all my skills not to mention an entire hotbar for a play macro because targeting is hard sometimes

Squenix: And our new Friend here comes with a AoE Heal that at the same time serves as a Attack so he has no Downtime! SGE: Yes, damage, agree Squenix: Oh and finally my dear Astrologian .... have a AoE Benedicition! WHM, SCH, SGE: .... WHAT!?
Oh yes, I been waiting for this!. Am like a potato when it comes to Astrologer to the point I bought a skip because I knew the old play style was going to die so why bother with an empty husk. So I waited for something of this style, Thank you Wesker for this I needed this.
Hey, I love ur series of FF14’s guides, it helped me so much… Could you please make one for Scholars 1 to 90, please? I saw that you made one but it was a Shadowbringers guide! I really appreciate all of your work on making videos like these
I got this job to 90….and I HATE it! If I had a way to macro who I throw the cards to, that’d ease the pain, but I don’t see how I can on console. As Wesk says “there’s just so many buttons!” I’m giving some consideration to putting Astro’s attack spells on macros to always target the enemy, but I know that’ll cause some loss of damage due to macro jank. Might be worth it for dungeons though.
@@Liquefaction I did learn a fact that makes it a bit easier on console. I had an option toggled off, but basically it lets you highlight a party member for 1 action, then snaps back to your previous target. It's called Soft Targetting, but there's an option that makes switching to a party member a Hard target. That still doesn't mean I like Astro, but it eases the pain a bit
@@raarasunai4896 this needs to be pinned and shouted out to the world. I've been playing on console since the end of Stormblood and had no idea about the soft targeting thing. Thank you so much. ❤
I wish you had covered mouseover macros a bit when playing cards on team members. I just finished the cards/further tips section and I didnt see it. So what it does to anyone curious: If you hover your mouse over a party member's name (in the party list) or over their actual character and activate the macro, it immediately assigns your current card to that person without having to select them. This results in a lot more streamlined experience where you dont constantly have to target switch in order to manage cards while also healing/doing damage
@@WeskAlber For healing they can be super nice, especially for single target stuff. I dont think I could manage the card system otherwise - I'm just not good enough mechanically
@@WeskAlber OH! I also wanted to say - I absolutely love your guides. I think you're amazing for making these so detailed and I can't imagine how much thought and effort goes into these. @@adamm1117 Yeah I know they can be super useful, but the concept of a MO macro just seems unintuitive and harder to use than my current play. I could have mentioned it exists at the least though. It just got away from me I guess. Thank you for the kind words though
I feel like I have too many skills for my hotbars with Astologian trying to get it set up myself so using this to check if I got my 3 hot bars laid out correctly. Edit: Good use of ProZD meme audio for this. Edit2: moving some things from the dps bar to the heal bar but mostly correct. edit3: See putting Sprint/limit break/sleep/rescue off your main hotbars to give some space is interesting especially since my main 36 is full ATM (with having call/uncall ascend set up.)
Awesome video here and excellent coverage. You do have a minor error about Macrocosmos though: you said 100 potency for every enemy after the first but 40% less is 60% which, of 250 potency, is actually 150 potency. Just thought anyone watching this should be aware.
Are you doing guides for tanks as well? Your monk/pugilist and thaumaturge/black mage has been very useful for me, since their rotation has been revamped in Endwalker!!
Synastry is something i rarely used cause I A) forget about it. and B) did not about how to use it. And now I know how to use Astrodyne. Thanks for that tip.
Synastry is one of AST's absolute best buttons imo. When other healers run out of oGCD heals, they're just stuck with wimpy GCD heals. AST has Synastry to super power their GCDs with a bunch of other potential flexibility on it.
@@arzedeutwitchvods1670 synastry only work on single target spells. Macro isnt single target. I find syn + benefic 2 into ED the best way to full heal tank invuls.
Did you say „the black mage sitting at the far corner of Austria“? lol Austria is tiny, I bet even if you put him on the furthest spot, Helios would still reach xD
The way I've played at least 10 instances of astrologian at 50 without knowing the divination sign bonus got added to a new spell that's not even on my hit bar....
Hey, Random but I noticed you customized your WXHB bars, (the extra two Cross Hotbar things you can enable), How did you do that? Mine are completely uneditable!
The way I understand it is you set the WXHB to be a specific set of the 8 crossbars. so my WXHB is crossbar 8, edit that using the main Crossbar UI, then swap that to 7 for the main bar
My AST opener inputs: -30: Draw Between -15 and -5 (To align with groupwide damage): Earthly Star -2: Lightspeed 0: Combust (Target->Play->Draw->Tab target) 2.5: Malefic (Target->Play/Redraw->Draw/Minor Arcana-> Tab target) 5: Malefic (Target->Divination->Play->Tab target) 7.5: Malefic (Astrodyne/Draw->Minor Arcana/Lucid Dreaming) From there I just kinda roll with things, play my last card then sigh with relief
During the "next 10 years" Live Letter. The Q&A it was asked and he said DRK and LD getting some changes, WHM some changes - probably old Thin Air back - and some potentially other jobs. As a result if you were hoping for a DRK or WHM vid soon, expect nothing. I'm waiting for the patch for those.

Late comment but just let the group know at the start of the run. MOST people won't care that much, and the ones that do *shrug* just get through the run and you'll never see them again. I very much prefer when people let me know they're uncomfortable before I try a wall to wall pull and end up dying.
I find it funny how he complains about many buttons, but at the same time, I can see he has SAM build and compared Astro with SAM, it has way fewer buttons :D
Think you have me confused with someone else. But also yes... SAM has less buttons. I don't know how that has anything to do with AST and its cards having too many buttons
I dont fear the cards as astrologian.... I fear my lack of oGCD healings 💀💀 Whm, sage and scholar has this 3 stacks of insta heals, the closest astrologian has is essential dignity... I struggle to grasp astrologian because of this, like i have to actually gcd cast heals if my regens arent enough? I am awfully uncomfortable with the idea of depending on regens...

While AST DPS IS very low, the Duty fails is likely more mechanical. Everything can easily clear MSQ, its just how quick can differ.
ah yes. button bloat the class. I love it. This is the only class where I have 4 hotbars for all my skills not to mention an entire hotbar for a play macro because targeting is hard sometimes
Love your videos 🥰
Squenix: Alright WHM u get a Strong AoE Heal that activates when u get hit multiple times
WHM: Uh boy so i can greed and heal!
Squenix: And u Scholar get a AoE Mitigation + Incombat Peloton!
SCH: Oh man so i can finally make thos fuckers move their asses fast enough, love it!
Squenix: And our new Friend here comes with a AoE Heal that at the same time serves as a Attack so he has no Downtime!
SGE: Yes, damage, agree
Squenix: Oh and finally my dear Astrologian .... have a AoE Benedicition!
I really appreciate all of your work on making videos like these
He's going to be doing them all, there is votes for which order to do them on his patreon I believe
I'd like for a scholar one to appear very soon.
I got this job to 90….and I HATE it! If I had a way to macro who I throw the cards to, that’d ease the pain, but I don’t see how I can on console. As Wesk says “there’s just so many buttons!”
I’m giving some consideration to putting Astro’s attack spells on macros to always target the enemy, but I know that’ll cause some loss of damage due to macro jank. Might be worth it for dungeons though.
agreed. i can't stand the cards mechanic. they feel so weak considering the amount of nonsense they add trying to weave and double weave shit
This intro is comedy gold great video like normal
I wish you had covered mouseover macros a bit when playing cards on team members. I just finished the cards/further tips section and I didnt see it.
So what it does to anyone curious: If you hover your mouse over a party member's name (in the party list) or over their actual character and activate the macro, it immediately assigns your current card to that person without having to select them. This results in a lot more streamlined experience where you dont constantly have to target switch in order to manage cards while also healing/doing damage
Cuz I don't use macros.
Laying out rotations _as we're levelling_ has been absolutely amazing and something that's been tremendously useful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting these together for us
@@adamm1117 Yeah I know they can be super useful, but the concept of a MO macro just seems unintuitive and harder to use than my current play.
Oops. It's going to get used anyway so minor error. But thank you for pointing it out
Why is every opening so good?! ^_^ I'm a white mage main, but have been having fun doofing around with Astro, looking forward to learning more.
"just be wary of that one black mage sitting at the far corner of austria" i loled
Are you doing guides for tanks as well? Your monk/pugilist and thaumaturge/black mage has been very useful for me, since their rotation has been revamped in Endwalker!!
every job
Watching this out of curiosity because I am not ready for healing...then realising I am that pesky DPS ;-;
"From this.... to this!" and you didn't use the clip from 5.3 of Urianger being COMPLETELY extra with his cards...!
14:27 You legit scared me for a second
thank you!
Cheers dude.
@@WeskAlber hmm... that got me thinking. Pairing Macrocosmos with Synsastry and the current Living Dead could be really useful.
@@arzedeutwitchvods1670 synastry only work on single target spells. Macro isnt single target. I find syn + benefic 2 into ED the best way to full heal tank invuls.
I definitely dont need this but watching it anyway
Benefic? In this economy?
Did you say „the black mage sitting at the far corner of Austria“? lol Austria is tiny, I bet even if you put him on the furthest spot, Helios would still reach xD
Yeah but my audience is mostly American.
The card game joke is so triggering but also enjoyable
The way I've played at least 10 instances of astrologian at 50 without knowing the divination sign bonus got added to a new spell that's not even on my hit bar....
literally got to 87 just then this is perfect time
Hey, Random but I noticed you customized your WXHB bars, (the extra two Cross Hotbar things you can enable), How did you do that? Mine are completely uneditable!
The way I understand it is you set the WXHB to be a specific set of the 8 crossbars. so my WXHB is crossbar 8, edit that using the main Crossbar UI, then swap that to 7 for the main bar
But what does Pot of Greed do again?
It turns you into the machinist.
Allows you to draw 2 more cards.
Ty
My AST opener inputs:
-30: Draw
Between -15 and -5 (To align with groupwide damage): Earthly Star
-2: Lightspeed
0: Combust (Target->Play->Draw->Tab target)
2.5: Malefic (Target->Play/Redraw->Draw/Minor Arcana-> Tab target)
5: Malefic (Target->Divination->Play->Tab target)
7.5: Malefic (Astrodyne/Draw->Minor Arcana/Lucid Dreaming)
From there I just kinda roll with things, play my last card then sigh with relief
Would a combo be Neutral Sect + Horoscope + Aspected Helios for max shields and healing?
You made Yu-Gi-Oh references but forgot about Macro Cosmos's ability to banish cards that would be sent to the GY instead!
small timestamp correction: horoscope has the wrong timestamp on it.
Thank you, hit 2 instead of 3
I wish i could give more than 1 like just for the first 45s. 😂
me, AST main: take my likes bro

Where/when was the living dead rework announced?
During the "next 10 years" Live Letter. The Q&A it was asked and he said DRK and LD getting some changes, WHM some changes - probably old Thin Air back - and some potentially other jobs.
As a result if you were hoping for a DRK or WHM vid soon, expect nothing. I'm waiting for the patch for those.
I made a account YEARS ago, but I have around a level 80 Astrologian.
I want to get back in the game but I honestly don't remember anything of there kit.
I'm kinda nervous to get back in, because I don't want to que up for something my level and fail the team as there healer.
Late comment but just let the group know at the start of the run. MOST people won't care that much, and the ones that do *shrug* just get through the run and you'll never see them again. I very much prefer when people let me know they're uncomfortable before I try a wall to wall pull and end up dying.
I always call them sun moon and star, instead of sun moon and orb.
Act makes card targets so easy lol
24:05 lmao xD
I dont fear the cards as astrologian.... I fear my lack of oGCD healings 💀💀
Whm, sage and scholar has this 3 stacks of insta heals, the closest astrologian has is essential dignity... I struggle to grasp astrologian because of this, like i have to actually gcd cast heals if my regens arent enough?
I am awfully uncomfortable with the idea of depending on regens...
The fact that you repeatedly say "don't get lost in the cards" rather than "don't get lost in the shuffle" makes me sad as a lover of dad-jokes.
I try to avoid puns usually
what is the song playing at 34:12
Song lists in outros and intros.
In this case, Equilibrium
What stats should i focus on just starting out?
MND
While I do technically agree with Wesker here, you will be burning through gear so fast that it won't matter. Between quest rewards and dungeon loot you will be getting upgrades fast. After ARR the only gear you can equip will focus on mind primarily anyway. Secondary stat priorities only become important in current endgame content
