What are some mechanics that yall would like to see on WM to give it just a little more gameplay depth? This is something ive always been curious about
You know, I was crying over losing the time based Thin Air, but having charges lets me pop one for a Res without feeling like the rest of the time might be wasted. Swiftcast + Thin Air + Res = happy me
This is what I've been saying too, having the flexibility to choose which spells I negate the MP cost on is far more useful than a timer. My criticism is that I wish I still had 5 GCDs that can be thin air'd - though I'd settle for maybe one more stack, or a slightly shorter CD.
Even with the timed thin air, if you used one ress inside the window, it was way better for mana management than most anything else unless you were casting 5 GCD heals during that window.
I've played a lot of WHM, so even if I'm literally at full health I know, for their sanity, to stand in the bubble. Always stand in the bubble if I can.
I see that your patch notes don't include the fact that regen ticks no longer generate hate -- making it ideal to cast Regen shortly before the tank hits each group of mobs.
@@WeskAlber Patch 6.2: HP restoration over time will no longer generate enmity with each tick of healing. Prior to that, such ticks did generate enmity, causing challenges when pre-applying regen. Now, applying regen before the tank actually gets to the group of mobs means no enmity issues, even if you're a little slow getting next to the tank on the pull for some reason. By the way, I do love these guides, and I've learned things from every one I've watched except this one (even a few points about sage). As you might guess, I main white mage.
@@WeskAlber Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. Though I will say that it depended on the tank. With some it was never a problem. With some, it could get a little dicey at times.
Nobody has, in fact, asked me, but Holy II and Glare II got skipped because the traditional naming scheme in FF games (Cure, Cura, Curaga) was localized as numbers instead (Cure, Cure II, Cure III), and the original script(?) decided to skip straight from Holy to Holyga.
This is my Stone (II). There are many like it, but this one is mine. This kind of makes me want a CNJ/WHM specific Pet Rock minion, if they didn't already have the class mount :P
"May the Power of an A Nidhoggs lay waste to your enemies." Okay, so from now on I'm renaming the Blood Lily to A Nidhoggs. Seriously, though, yet another great guide; I definitely needed this one to help dust off my WHM soulstone~
I use the simple job gauge for this. Personally, I have trouble tracking how close the glow is to max on regular, so having the simple gauge that is light blue filling in a black space is much easier.
Thin Air section: Honestly, with the change made to it now, Thin Air is basically just free Raise casts; using it for anything else borders on being pointless, since Lucid Dreaming and Assize (+ Super Ethers, for those who want to take MP management a little *too* seriously XD ) are more than good enough for managing resources with GCD heals. And seeing as how Raise is the singlemost expensive spell in the kit, there's literally no reason NOT to use a Thin Air charge for every Raise you possibly can.
No, Aero is only worth the power of its long duration. At most you would lose one tick over the entire fight. Further, you can't pre-cast Aero. It doesn't have a cast time. Stone does, and you get an entire cast for free by timing it to send on pull.
Ive been playing a year now and mainly play dps and didnt realise i had a 5sec invun after being raised. I can niw help my healer by standing still....not that i ever die though 👀
Im probably wrong but... WHY DOES WHITE MAGE HAS THE PRETTIEST SKILLS!? Like, liturgy of the bell, the new holy, glare, assize, heck their animations in general are just so...graceful and detailed, its so satifying to look at. (Liturgy of the bell is officially my favorite thing from this game. Its so beautiful)
I recommend trying out the tanks. They have powerful tools that make them invulnerable for a short duration in different flavors. Knowing how other roles work makes playing your role way easier.
Yes, it'll make Raise free *and* instant. Thin Air only gets used up if you cast something with an MP cost, and Swiftcast only gets used up if you cast something with a cast time, so you can prepare both at once
Only gripe I've got, you say every time your hotbars would make sense at 90. You seem to neglect the number of Playstation players who only use crossbars and as a result have an entirely different way of playing.
Well yes, they're hotbars and not crossbars. Unfortunately I've not learned controller and will be a project for this year potentially. They still may make sense to a controller player since you know what a keyboard looks like and can see where I place what icons. The ultimate point is "what is comfy for me isn't comfy for you" anyway. Proven as much by the video I mention.
"Let (s)he who is without sin cast the first stone." I call the first twelve, can't be much more pure than a white mage, b**ch~! This is definitely my favorite job to play, and my main, so that worked out for me. Especially with Regen and Medica 2. I prefer doing a Medica 2 pre-pull when the tank pulls; I do more casual content, and would rather not have to keep track of new player's HP until the boss gets going, so i can start singing my favorite song, "Holy, holy, holy, look, the sky's on fi~~~re!" A little wasteful, sure, but a nice convenient way to open. And then there's assize. This being your strongest hit for a good dozen levels or so, while also healing? Oh man nothing quite like destroying things and happening to heal as well. My least favorite part is when you're doing story and need to beat a fight; this is one of your biggest damages but it's so slow fighting solo as a WHM. Then you get it off cooldown and half the enemy's hp disappears. Good times, good times. ^_^
This might be a silly question but would it not be more efficient to use Afflatus over Tetra, if Afflatus is enough to do the healing? Since you get back the Lily charge in 20 seconds, vs waiting 60 to use Tetra again. So if a lot of damage goes out to the tank, you might have another Lily charge back up by the time that happens, vs Tetra still being on cooldown.
GCD vs. oGCD. GCD opportunity cost means you're also doing less DPS. In any situation where you're caring that much about tools, you're going to be using BOTH anyway. They aren't comparable. And if you're using a GCD instead of your Tetra... you're just not using Tetra? A waste to not use one of your free tools.
I am a fairly new healer (level 81) and find that higher level content is easier with the full toolkit unlocked compared to older- lower level content. Regarding regen in dungeons at low levels: I pop it on the tank when they are between the pulls, but also during the mini and main boss'' of that dungeon. I had someone get mad at me saying I shouldnt during boss' of dungeons, only for pulls- is this true? Would love to hear other peoples views, should I stop using regen and just use cure 2 in low level dungeons during boss'.
When you use Plenary Indulgence, do you cast it before or after you cast Medica 2, Cure 3, and Afflatus Rapture? Which do you cast first, and which do you cast second?
@@WeskAlber Thank you very much :) It was the only thing in the whole guide that I was confused about. It's a wonderful guide, the best I've watched so far :) I appreciate your in depth instructions, and am thankful for your guides :) So please keep making them :)
I'm probably missing something, but to me it seems like the tank should hold their invuln until after the holy stuns, it would allow the 7 seconds of stun and the dps, and then let the whm continue doing group dps whilst the enemies are immune to stun. Is there a reason why the invuln should come first?
Cool down length and also logistics. As soon as the Holy stuns end, the enemies are all going to bash on the tank. A tank who already lost some HP from pulling the groups and has 0 cooldowns running. If they even survive the sudden burst, timing the invuln will be harder. Luckily for WHMs most tanks don't communicate so you can't be held liable if they waste their invuln.
While it can be way harder to coordinate, I'm pretty sure it's better for the white mage to holy BEFORE the tank uses their invuln, not after. The WHM wants to holy anyways for damage, not just the stun, and preventing them from doing so does nothing but lose damage since they're forced to just use dots and single target. The tank, meanwhile, gains nothing from their invuln other than defense, so it is much better for them to utilize it once the holy stun has worn off.
I don't disagree but I do also think you're under valuing invulns. "Nothing but defense" is a bit under sold. Ultimately, while Holy is going to be worth a decent chunk of damage, making sure the tank survives still is needed. I'd rather be a little slower overall if it means tanks are actually using their big CDs instead of holding for "emergencies" that never happen. Superbolide into Benediction is a meme stemming from lack of communication.
I think there’s a typo in the description where you put “HoTs no longer generate aggro” in the same line of another sentence, I guess it doesn’t matter though since Dawntrail is out.
Something bugs me about WHM (and, as far as I know, not just me actually). In the lore, it is explicitly mentioned that WHMs use the power of 1) earth; 2) air; 3) water. Meanwhile in the game: earth, Stone; air, Aero; water, … … … WAIT… Edit: I know WHM is a healer but come on, BLM uses their whole elemental trinity (fire/lightning/ice), why not do the same for WHM?
....honestly never thought to test that. But going off of Regen (250 potency) healing about 7500/2.5 = 3000, it may indicate that yes, it does! This was a very short test but it seems to match?
seeing Blood lilies and Aflatus Misery makes me think that white mage isnt actually a healer, but a "Yandere" Healer that always laugh to the suffer that friends and foe has whenever they loses HP
It's something most people ask for. Getting weak or bad tanks a lot doesn't mean the practiced tanks who listen to advice aren't going to ask for DPS. And if that's the case, that's on you anyway. Instead of telling me about it, tell those tanks that you can't because their gear or CD usage is weak. Maybe you were using heals in a poor order or not using your own tools too.
That freecure bit was hilarious. I really wish they removed that trait, too many conjurer sprouts fall prey to its trappings. Honestly have Cure 1 evolve into Cure 2 but cost 800 MP instead. once you get LV52 Solace truly makes Cure 1 utterly useless, again should just evolve into Cure 2 smh. Asylum, I've _rescued_ more tanks to stand in it than using to to actually save players from dying to aoes 💀
In old Final Fantasy games where every turn is absolutely valuable and heavily incentivizes using Cure II as soon as a character learns it, even bad players quickly learn to avoid Cure (except outside of combat, due to high mp efficiency) because a healer spamming Cure in a mid-game boss quite obviously could not keep up with the boss's dps, and the slow turn based gameplay made it very easy to see. If nothing else, the player learns by getting a humiliating game over from all characters dying with lots of unused mp. Additionally, unlocking Cure II means a fancy new spell, and what kind of player doesn't like seeing the new animation and hearing the new effects? GCDs in XIV come fairly quickly, so I see why players learn more slowly to ditch Cure. However, this doesn't solve the fancy new spell part. Does the fear of losing mp keep them from switching to Cure II that badly? (Like Ice BLM Syndrome)

Regen is stronger
@@WeskAlber Thanks, will keep slapping that regen on. Must have just been a salty player who apparently had "700 hours as a main healer".
@@barry951 I wasn't there, but you also need to keep in mind over-healing. Make sure they need the regen first
The last healer I have yet to 90.... Thanks
As an AST main I am now questioning everything after watching this. I guess AST has some really freakin good raidwide heals.
Earthly Galaxy kinda destroys whatever you throw it at
Thankfully they changed it so hots don't give healers enmity anymore.
The advice still applies though, Regen or no Regen
When you use Plenary Indulgence, do you cast it before or after you cast Medica 2, Cure 3, and Afflatus Rapture? Which do you cast first, and which do you cast second?
Plenary activates every time you cast an AoE with it up. Like in the footage
I can't not call it a heal bush. It will forever be.
Why again are Assize and PresenceoMind not used early in Rotation? They could be buffed by other party member abilities?
They are used early. See the opener sections
Idk if your gonna see this but are you gonna do a 1-100 when dt comes out or just 90-100?
Expansions almost always change stuff along the way too
“Cure II replaces Cure mostly, and you should rarely be using Cure.”
Me, who’s at endgame and STILL uses Cure more than Cure II:
“Oh..”
“…holy, HoLY, Heaaaaaal Buuuush, H O L Y! “
Lack of a period is all
@@WeskAlber Yup
Something bugs me about WHM (and, as far as I know, not just me actually). In the lore, it is explicitly mentioned that WHMs use the power of 1) earth; 2) air; 3) water. Meanwhile in the game: earth, Stone; air, Aero; water, … … … WAIT…
Edit: I know WHM is a healer but come on, BLM uses their whole elemental trinity (fire/lightning/ice), why not do the same for WHM?
White Mage with The Duality Issues
though i loved Blood lily, might be it was the Water element we talking about
Water was Fluid Aura, an ability that was removed. Also, Aquaveil.
I've had to link this guide to way too many level 90 players than I should need to
Somebody help
could you do GNB next?
That was the vote
Where is Glare II and Holy II ?
what the shit, youre telling me there's only 2 dmg abilities until lvl 45? I know it's a healer role but goddam what a snooze
Yeah the road to white mage was a bit of a slog. The daily leveling on the duty finder made it more bearable for me honestly
Me when I bloom the Blood Lily for the first time: "Hahaha! May your screams fill the air!"
Does enhanced Asylum affect itself?
....honestly never thought to test that. But going off of Regen (250 potency) healing about 7500/2.5 = 3000, it may indicate that yes, it does! This was a very short test but it seems to match?
@@WeskAlber awesome!
THERE'S AN INVULN AFTER YOU'RE RAISED?!?!?! omfg those poor healers i had no idea...
Him: "any time you put out..."
Me: 🤭
"optimal rotations are better left to their own video"
WHM optimal rotation: Glare, dia, glare, glare, glare, glare, glare..... :)
I keep the thesis statement the same even if... yeah...
seeing Blood lilies and Aflatus Misery makes me think that white mage isnt actually a healer, but a "Yandere" Healer that always laugh to the suffer that friends and foe has whenever they loses HP
I don't wanna DPS! I just want a cupcake! lol!
Hey where’s glare 2 and holy 2? (Shuts up)
Holy is so disappointing lets call it "Wimp Slapper" but it looks impressive ;)
Lord help me I'm playing on ps4
so you are the reason every fking npc shop white gear tank is telling me to DPS? meanwhile I'm brocking my keyboard just to keep him alive
You speak weird
And?
