You should listen to the studio version, because this Soul Train performance was shortened and things left out to fit the show format. Check out "The World Is A Ghetto", "Deliver The Word" "All Day Music" " Low Rider", "Cisco Kid", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "City Country City", "Low Rider", "My Four Cornered Room", "Galaxy"......etc. Their catalog is deep!

That dirge at the beginning is needed to pull you all the way into the song. It hits wayyyyy different.

Thank you for finally reacting to the group War. You’ve got to listen to Summer, All Day Music, and Don’t Let No One Get you Down. This group is straight out of Southern California. Another group you should check out is Tierra, the song is Together.

My dad turned me on to this group & their music. Dad underwent training for the Treasury Department from 1974-1974. He told me about a neighborhood bar he hung out in with mostly Blacks from the same neighborhood (known as a family bar back then; someone's kids were always running in & out to the store next-door bringing ice, cigarettes, and food to the bar patrons). Dad would play their live album while he was getting ready to head out for day-drinking. Many memories of my dad attached to this music.

Great to see you guys back...and with a vengeance! You definitely owe it to yourselves to hear this song properly from their 'All Day Music' album. You probably guessed that this version was chopped, and it is, but the album version gives you much more nuance, and the opening 1:40 alone is amazing. You're going to get a lot of predictable suggestions for more War but let me suggest the song 'Smile Happy' from 'Why Can't We be Friends'. The song title alone encapsulates everything you guys are about, but the song will exceed all expectations. Thanks.

Great song choice. War in the 1970s were a hot premier crossover r&b reggae style band. They had tight jams cisco kid, low rider why can't we be friends, galaxy, me & my brother & outlaw to name a few.

Y'all got to do it from the beginning. It's starts with an intro that sounds like a dirge. They take us to church via what feels like a funeral procession. Without that part, the other part won't have the same impact. Ima find it and post it.

S&M....For this song you've gotta react to the studio/audio version. Also, react to their songs: Cisco Kid, Me and Baby Brother, The World is A Ghetto, All Day Music. Also, Slippin Into Darkness was sampled in Hip Hop for "Rock This Funky Joint."

LOVED War as a teen during the 70s! They had no bad songs! A couple more you should add to your reaction list are "Low Rider" and "Spill The Wine" by Eric Burdon & War (links below). They were probably two of their biggest hits and very different vibes! Thanks for this great reaction! ✌💙✌

Where is the rest of the song? You need to hear the entire track. The long version where the beginning sounds like some kind of Negro spiritual and you're not sure where they're going and if you like it, but then they get into it and get real funky on you, and you end up dancing. War was bad back in the day. Long live the 70s!
