This song came out a year before “Get Up Stand Up,” and apparently Bob Marley was a fan of war so he was clearly influenced by this song. And BTW, the version of this song you listened to is the single edit. The album version is close to 7 minutes long and has a really cool intro section you don’t get to hear in the single edit, well worth checking out on your own!
Good Ear!! Wasn't into Marley, but when i did hear "Get Up Stand Up" i knew exactly where he got the idea from! Followed War mainly for Eric Burden, cand even when he left i still got into them big time, especially this tune! Also have the METERS Feel!
We all influence each other in music. Rarely will you ever hear anything that is totally original and never heard before. We just take what we've heard and combine it in unique ways.
More awesome War songs include - Spill The Wine 🍷 All Day Music, Summer, Four Cornered Room, Galaxy, City, Country, City, Deliver The Word, just to name a few
I was at an outdoor concert watching War and the EMTS with a strecher came down the isle, somebody had a medical problem and this song came on while they were wheeling him out...coincidence?
Great reaction and great song but there is a much longer version that is completely different in many ways than this one. I think next month I will request it. It's over 7 minutes so it will take up two requests
I want to correct the two statements I made about the. Song Forever Mow ding by The Avett Brothers The last part of the song is SINK and Ride and not Sing and Rise Sink and Rise refers to the cycle of rebirths When the songrmtioned How Far Away From You, You Are At The Centre Of All The Dances, he is referring to GOD and not your love one. Sorry my mistake. I guess I miss my father much that made some attributions to the lyrics of the song which is not there.
Liked it?...I loved it!!! I got 4 of their albums from back in the 70's. Including All Day Music released in 71 which this track is on. Great request and enjoyed your reaction Harri!
So many great bands back then. Never be a time like that again🥲
Great reaction - great group! Low Rider and Why Can't We Be Friends are two more great songs of theirs.
War's music definitely should be requested.
My personal favorite is "All Day Music", Harri.

Yes, the LP version fabulous ; however, I’m just grateful to Harri for playing the song!

Thanks for clearing that up about who had it first.I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure
I was about to look it up.

Such an amazing groove.
The live version will blow you away .
Ramsey Lewis did a fantastic funky jazz version of this, that's worth a listen, too
Thanks, Harri... Probably ain't heard THAT in 45× years!!!
Dancing in my chair!
Many thanks, Harri, for playing this song! I don’t think you can go wrong with the group War. I really enjoyed watching you groove to it 🎉
I agree. I've never heard a cut from them that I didn't like
You are too cool for words! :)
Great, great song from my youth.
Bob Marley was a great admirer of theirs. He borrowed the riff for his 'Get up, stand up'
War is a great band! Lots of fantastic songs to pick from.
Real Old School funky grove.
The late Great D.J. Hal Jackson on his "Sunday Morning Classics" used to play this alot.
They have such a great groove that it's hard to pick a favorite, but I love Me and Baby Brother.
More awesome War songs include - Spill The Wine 🍷 All Day Music, Summer, Four Cornered Room, Galaxy, City, Country, City, Deliver The Word, just to name a few
+ Me and Baby Brother, Cisco Kid, Ballero, Why Can't We Be Friends, Gypsy Man. I'm sure he's already done Low Rider.
Can't forget "The World Is A Ghetto"! You've already named the rest of my favorites!
I would love seeing your reaction Harri to City, Country, City. That song will blow your mind 🎉🎉🎉🎉

That funk is so stanky you can smell it through the screen! Great band. Great song!! 💯
You missed the New Orleans band THE METERS!! This is definitely an influence they got from them! The Meters had some real funk going on
I just kissed my baby she’s a hoochie mama
War is HOT!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great observations!!

please listen to Deliver The Word by War!
Oh YES!! Also, Eric Burdon of The Animals joined War and they did "They Can't Take My Music From Me". I'd love to hear a reaction from that one!
Both awesome tunes!
This is an edited version of the original album cut.
It was the 45 single- due to time constraints. Otherwise I would have chosen the LP version.
Wish I had that gold lp.
Check out "East LA" by War.
All Day Music and The World is a Ghetto need to be next!!!
This before GetUp
Yes…Get Up, Stand Up was released two years later.
A great reaction AAAND the answer to why this sounds familiar?! 😂Well done, Harri!
I feel a touch of Bob Marley in it....

"Gypsy Man" has always been one of my favs. This one reminds me of The Meters from New Orleans.

First album I bought. I'm thinking 1972?
Eric Burdon director ??
War are way better than M. Gaye
Harri check out Ballin’Jack which has a couple of the WAR musicians. You ‘ll definitely hear the influence. Superhighways was their best radio hit🤠🎶🎼
One of my favorite bands. Great musicians. Funky beats. Soulful singing.
War is cool like the other side of the pillow, I can listen to them any time, any place.
An excellent comparison!

Glad you enjoyed it!
@@iandowney4630 Yes, I certainly did! So much so, I'll be pulling those albums out to further enjoy more War!!
Fantastic band!!❤❤
War was great! ✌️❤️🤟🥁
I love this group and I love this song. Thank you, Ian and Harri.
I just commented this on your Doctor Wu video, but it bears repeating: I think this song is about drugs, right? You on a theme this week Harri!
Check out "War Live."
I love this band. Saw them a couple of times in Atlanta back in the day. Deliver the word is a great song as well.
Like most songs of the 70's, this song was about drugs, i.e., "Takes my mind beyond the trees".
