This is my favorite performance of "Crazy on You". Too bad it was recorded on VHS. Hopefully somebody will clean up the video. Their performance is a masterful work of dynamic art. The whole band!!!
Nancy was all of our crush back in the day. Ann & Nancy have kicked ass for so long and have influenced my music journey in my life more than anyone else. Queens.
Heart started out as a Led Zeppelin cover band called "Little Led Zeppelin." They're from Washington and were actively supportive of the Seattle Grunge genre. Please check out a video of Alice in Chains with Gretchen Wilson live covering "Barracuda." Nancy Wilson makes a surprise cameo on guitar. Nancy's tight with Alice in Chains. It rocks!
I was SO very happy you used this video...there are others that are cut up and exclude the intro acoustic piece by Nancy. This is for me the definitive example of Hearts greatness. And watch Nancy with her hard strumming rhythm throughout...I play this song myself on guitar, and what she did here takes an amazing level of strength and stamina. I actually got to meet both Ann and Nancy backstage and chat with them during the late 90's...they are 'special' people, and the whole world has been blessed to have the opportunity to experience them. Thank you for making sure they stay in our hearts and minds forever!
I have such respect and admiration for heart and Ann and Nancy forging the way in rock and roll history in a male dominated industry. As always love your reaction and your point of view ❤️
This looks to be from about the time period when I took my daughter to 2 of their concerts, both at the Portland Memorial Coliseum, mid to late 1980's. She was about 10 and 11 those 2 times. Brings back fond memories.
You are correct. Early Heart (first band line up) was very much known as "The Female Led Zeppelin". After their first 5 albums (minus their original band members at the 5th album), they recreated themselves from progressive rock into a pop rock band in the 80's. Ann & Nancy Wilson are incredibly talented sisters. Ann is a powerhouse on vocals - one of Rock's finest. Nancy is stellar on acoustic guitar and is a strong singer in her own right.
I saw them perform this live back in the early 80's and they were magnificent. At the time, I wasn't much of a Heart fan, but that show changed that in a big way. Not only did they slay all their songs, but their Zeppelin covers during the encore was unforgettable.
Thanks for your reaction. I have always liked this song from the time it came out to now. There are songs you turn up the volume for no matter where you are and this is one of them.
Hi Rebeka, great to see you enjoying Heart live so much, need to check out Magic Man from about 1976 live as well! Ann Wilson one of the greatest female rock vocalists imo, so powerful! Keep rockin' girl!
Heart were one of the bands at my first concert in 1978 - Cal Jam 2. I was two months short from turning 16 yrs. and I was there for nearly 27 hrs and loved it. Another great Seattle band.
@@Reclining_Spuds Hard day...having everything taken from us at the gate...except for the huge bud I had in my shoe. From Santana on...we, up front, had no way to get back to where the water and food was. Thankfully, it wasn't a real hot one. My brother left to get us stuff just prior to Santana and I never saw him again...until the next morning at home.
Early Heart concerts in the 70s always included a couple of Zep songs. They had a nickname of lLttle Zep. John Paul Jones of Zeppelin produced and played on the 1995 Heart live album The Road Home. Search UA-cam for many live Zeppelin songs performed by Heart.
I used to go to bars in Seattle before they started doing their own music and became popular! They did mostly Led Zeppelin music and at that time i wasn't following unknown groups around, but I did with Heart and being a singer myself I just knew they were going to be great! So yes Led Zeppelin was a huge influence on their music and also led to their Kennedy Center performance of Stairway to Heaven as a tribute to Led Zeppelin!
They are great, always. Look at the Zepplin influence on the way the song was built. Start with slow acoustic, bring in other instruments mellow sections then booming rock, great Guitar solo, same way zeppelin built their songs. Zepplin changed music and influence so many other bands.
For me, this video shows the power and virtuosity of this band. Nancy's mind blowing intro lays waste to those who thought Heart consisted only of Ann's vocals. She proves that an acoustic guitar can be featured prominently in a hard rock band. Roger Fisher's lead guitar and Mike Derosier's drumming were exceptional- and I don't mean to slight Howard Leese (keys/guitar) or Steve Fossen (bass). And FYI Ann's boyfriend Mike Fisher was never a guitarist in the band - he was their sound man and band manager. Your comparison to Led Zeppelin is spot on.
Anyone that is familiar with Heart of the 70s era knows that they were heavily influenced by the Led Zep rhythm style but they were not copy cats at all...Their albums up to the 1985 change in style for the MTV Era are really great and beyond that ,they still made great music .. For a live request , I would look into '' California Jam II 1978 ''..They were great on that as well ,but that whole concert is also.. It was like a California extension of Woodstock ..350 thousand people attend that event
Lucky to see them in their prime in Anchorage Alaska, late80’s! Her voice is so incredible, only rock female vocalist close to Ann Wilson is Pat Benetar! Simple!😉👍
I saw Heart in San Francisco late 80s early 90s at Mountain view/aire, out door concert setting, Girlschool opened for them, was a wicked good absolutely stunning concert hahaha lol, was memorable concert cause 5 of us Canadians were with our kick ass American friends and had an awesome night.
Hi Rebeka, Great reaction Thank You For That. Heart were amazing & Both Nancy & Ann still are! Heart way back in the day, While doing the bar scene were a Led Zepplin cover band. Heard a story once While Zep was performing in an American city, After the concert Jimmy & Robert were talking about going for a drink & One of the arena worker's over heard this & suggested a bar to them, They went & to their surprise Heart was playing at the bar, Story goes after Heart had finished their last set for the night, Jimmy & Robert went to talk with the girl's Telling them how great they were & at that moment gave Heart permission to cover any of Zep's song's with Robert & Jimmy's blessing's While telling Ann & Nancy they were the best band they had ever heard doing Their music {Zep} Magic Man is also a great song Live version is good but do prefer the studio version, If you're interested in getting a real different take on Heart the song Dog & Butterfly is amazing as well Really showing Ann's voice Thanks again! Sorry for the short novel & Keep up with the great reaction's Always a pleasure
You're right. Not a coincidence they sound like Zeppelin. In their earlier days they played a lot of zeppelin, so Ann got lots of practice. And yes, they can play any Zep you'd want to hear. And Ann's voice is so suited for Robert Plant vocals. She doesn't have to try to imitate.
Check out "Alone" or "Dreamboat Annie". The Wilson sisters idolized Led Zeppelin growing up. Ann Wilson has one of the best voices in rock not just women in rock she's still going strong today. I don't know if you've ever reacted to another Seattle area artist Jimi Hendrix if you haven't try his Monterey Pop Festive video of "Hey Joe". You'll see a couple things few guitarists do.
Don't know if you'll ever see this but... Heart opened the *brand new) main theater of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa with this song. TOTALLY awesome concert.
Spot on! Definitely a Led Zeppelin inspired band. By the way you might be interested to know that they're actually is "Zepparella" an all-female American Led Zeppelin tribute band founded and formed in 2005 in San Francisco, California. And they do have live videos you can find on UA-cam.
Several other GREAT Zepp covers by Heart... Check em out! Enjoyed this reaction, as it brings memories of seeing the Wilsons + and Zepp back in the day.
Ann & Nancy wrote a memoir, "Kicking & Dreaming" (2012). On p. 5, Nancy recalls: "...we also knew guys called us 'Led Zeppelin with t*ts,' behind our backs." The source you quote at the end is confused. Heart's early guitarist was Roger Fisher. His brother Mike was Ann's boyfriend.
Haven’t seen a Heart reaction in a few months. How about one with Nancy as the lead singer? “These Dreams”or “Will You Be There” Both are great songs and the show that both sisters can sing.
So many comments about Nancy. Ann was the star and the face of the band and was promoted as such by the record companies and promoters when the band became famous between 1976 to 1980. Nancy looked like a boy in the mid to late 70s. Ann had the voice, charisma, stage presence and IT factor. Nancy gained more fame in the 80s as she matured, dressed and looked more sexy for the MTV crowd, and of course, Ann blew up like the blueberry girl in Willie Wonka.
Funny, when I listen to classic rock, I don’t tend to think of any band a relation to another band. And I grew up on this music I just think of each band is being great, in and of themselves without making comparisons to other bands.
You are definitely not wrong... Ann and Nancy were huge Zeppelin fans... they build their songs on Dynamics.. just like Zeppelin did... I heard Jimmy Page say one time he wanted his music to be from a whisper to thunder in the same moment.. I'm paraphrasing.. if you haven't already you should check out barracuda.. heavily influenced by Achilles Last Stand.. sounds like to me..

This is my favorite performance of "Crazy on You". Too bad it was recorded on VHS. Hopefully somebody will clean up the video. Their performance is a masterful work of dynamic art. The whole band!!!
100% in agreement.
My words exactly🙏
THIS is the performance that made Nancy Wilson become one of my FAVORITE guitarists!

I'm glad you picked this one.
It's a better representation of them in the early years.
