"So he's telling the jokes..for himself?"
Hey, someone has to have a sense of humor
In my work environment I make jokes and almost always I'm the only one who finds it funny. I don't care if anyone else doesn't laugh as long as I did.
I'm hilarious, I have exactly my kind of humour.
They say its crazy, but it's more realistic than you think
I always crack jokes only half of the time people chuckle I always give the same reaction as Chandler does
I'm Chandler
You know, if you watched Chandlers scenes without the laugh track, they would be really super depressing. :D
It would be him telling jokes and then everyone just standing there silently for a few seconds without laughing, then carrying on with conversation.
Most sitcoms probably wouldn't be as funny as we think if they removed the laugh track. Take Big Bang Theory for instance, I found it icky enough to begin with, but without the laugh track, its humour is just plain creepy and I wouldn't in any way want to be associated with those assholes who call themselves geeks.
that's a neat UA-cam video idea
While somewhat true there were moments in the series where the characters crack up at his jokes.
And Ross would sound like a psychopath without the live audience lol.
Minor point-- there was no laugh "track" per se; the show was "filmed live before a studio audience." (it actually was.)
Nothing annoys me more than in sitcoms how damn often they are dating a "new" girlfriend. It makes it seem like its normal for people to meet like 8 beautiful women and date 8 diff people in NYC
lol, when I was living in the Thailand I had a new date every other day or so. What's wrong with dating a bunch? XD
@@jonw7937 that's not what people mean by dating. Dating implies your going on more than one date.
@@luisgay5897 And that's exactly what I meant. A date with a new girl, every other day. Which is more than one. Doesn't mean you have to be dating the same person.
Or how it's considered bizarre and abnormal for anyone to go more then a couple of months without sex.
@@jonw7937 that's not what I meant. If it's a new girl/guy every other day then your not dating, your trying to find someone to date. Dating is what you do to see if you want to be in a relationship with someone, if you only have 1 date then it either a) didn't to well or b) you were just trying to hook up and that's not a called dating, it's a one night stand.
I love Phoebe's character! The way she glosses over the darker stuff & focuses on more trivial matters is hilarious. And shows that despite having such a hard-knock life, she can still find the brighter side of things... even in the weirdest situations.
👏👏👏👏👏😜
Yeah it's wierd how when life gives you lemons you decide to make bad puns. And even laugh at them sometimes.
yeah thats the point screen rant makes. its not realistic... at all
@@williamwoolf8072 🤷
Having a dysfunctional childhood, the likes of which is too much for most(especially a child) to relate to & choosing to focus on the positive instead of wallowing in the negative(which they're probably pretty sick & tired of) in their own attempt to feel normal... Idk, sounds pretty relatable to me. But that's just one opinion.
@@brandonprater4613 yeah but you would be able to tell that person is traumatized or insincere when they make puns, well unless they turn into psychopaths(not as uncommon as you think). so not realistic
@@williamwoolf8072
You can tell she is traumatized(more or less) by the way she glosses over really dark details like they're no big deal, or how desperately she tries to stay positive in the face of adversity. Unlike her sister Ursula, who's WHOLE character is insincerity. Phoebe combats dysfunction by killing it with kindness, unlike Chandler who uses sarcasm & cynicism... probably why she doesn't like him as much.
Chandler is a low-key 4th-wall breaker who knows he's on a sitcom (Friends) and cracks those jokes for the audience.
Original Deadpool.
mrbejam well that can’t really work because deadpool first appeared in 1991, while chandler first appeared in 1994...

@@mrbejam *GASP!*
And then one day Chandler breaks it to the other friends that they are, in fact, on a tv sitcom and they don't really exist in the real world. Things get dark..
"So is Ross going to be the smart one who fascinates everyone with his discussions about science?" "No they're going to groan every time he tries to bring the conversation away from relationships."
Wow wow wow! Sounds like conversations would be really boring w/them.
"Except for when he gets a second divorce. He's going to whine so much about that relationship that his friends and Janice will prefer it if he went back to talking about science." "Who's Janice?" "One of Chandler's girlfriends. She's very annoying, but Chandler will always find ways to avoid that subject. He'll even travel to another country instead of telling her the truth." "But if she's a grown woman, surely she can take it. Why doesn't he just say it?" "Because!"
Yeah! This is 100% accurate!
ross is so bad at telling stories period, have you ever tried to talk with a super boring person? yea he can be smart and know a lot, but if i would like pure data i would read a book. Ross does not conversate he only gives lectures / unable to tell difference between cafe and auditorium

Mr Temporal XD
LOL mid 20's barely work & have giant NY apartments I can't believe I never picked up on that.
There's actually a good explanation for some of them. Monica was subletting from her Grandmother who had been there for years before she moved in (and I think it was rent controlled on top of that), and Rachel was just staying with her. Chandler had a tedious office job with a ludicrously complicated sounding name, but he had his own office, so it was probably pretty high paying, and Joey was his room mate so he just played a lower part of the rent than Chandler I think. Ross was a paleontologist, but I have no idea how much they make, so it could go either way on that one. Phoebe is the one that doesn't make sense, because she worked as a masseuse and played guitar at Central Perk as a hobby, so I seriously doubt she was making enough money to afford an apartment in Manhattan on her own.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince Paleontologists who teach at universities make enough money to afford their own, nice apartments, & Phoebe lived where her dead grandmother had lived for years so it was most likely rent controlled as well.

Through all the years watching Friends, I never actually realised none of the other characters laugh at Chandler's jokes!
That's true of pretty much every sitcom, though. Sitcom characters are constantly saying funny things with little to no reaction from other characters, And it would be kind of weird for characters to be constantly making each other laugh.
@@mrcydonia Actually, after a lifetime of watching sitcoms, I never noticed that consciously.
