I know that Stephen King claims he was on drugs when he wrote that child-orgy scene but...I mean was the publisher also on drugs??

@@acelovesdiyschristopher7023 well it's like the publishing company will have read the book. They're the ones who have it printed and marketed and so there is no question that the publisher would have said "hey Steven can we remove the child orgy" in fact they probably repeatedly asked him to remove it and the fact it's still in there suggests that steven king really wanted it to be in the book

@@synthiandrakon They might not of read it, or at least all of it. As tony said It was written by Stephen King and he has the clout to pretty much get whatever he writes published he doesn't have to "audition" or have his books approved. Hence the family guy sketch where he is pitching a story about a haunted lamp and the publisher states "your not really even trying anymore are you?" only than to sigh and ask "when can I have it?" Also its 1200 pages long, and this is towards the end, so who's to say they actually read the whole thing before publishing? Publishers simply can't read every book they publish, at least not fully, and if there is one author you can feel safe publishing without a pre-read its Stephen King.

I agree, but also think that it would have been super easy to kind of Easter egg the whole "kids are protected by a turtle God" thing.
Literally just have a shot of one of the kids having a pet turtle that has a throwaway line about it being really old for a pet turtle. No more exposition about it, just that. Book readers get the reference, doesn't take away from anything for non book readers and still makes sense for a kid to have a pet turtle. Then have a turtle in a pet shop window or something when they're adults, but even that would be optional.

It rarely uses the Pennywise form as a lure. It just happens to be it's favourite form. Across the book, the miniseries and the film the clown barely enticed anybody to come near him apart from Georgie. Even in the miniseries he would revert to the clown persona AFTER appearing to them in scary form therefore the notion that he lures them through friendliness first is not 100 accurate. A lot of the time in the book the clown form isn't used at all and when it is, The clown is described as being quite scary looking

Yeah, my biggest gripe with the movie is that the relied almost exclusively on the clown to do the killing, rather than dive into a whole bevy of cool movie creatures and monsters that could have done it. In the book kids get killed/stalked by the mummy, a werewolf, jaws, a swarm of leeches, dead siblings, frankenstein, dead kids, the diseased hobo, frankenstein's monster, a giant paul bunyon statue, etc. The clown was pretty ambivalent. He was modeled after the likes of Bozo and Clarabelle, who were actually beloved stars to kids at the time. And why the chose to give him a victorian look, despite the fact that It's lived in North America since before time and clowns in the US never really dressed that way is also beyond me. Tim Curry did it better.

The reason 2017 It is set in 1989 is so that they could have It Chapter Two set in modern times.

      Sure, I don't deny that.
But can you honestly say that my point doesn't have a sliver of truth to it?
I mean they got that one kid from "Stranger Things" for one. And studios do seem to be of the (not entirely but somewhat overblown) assumption that people care about what famous person is in some movie and feel that a movie "lives or dies" by whoever is in it.
So I posit, that *both* aspects are true.
It was set in the 80s to allow for the adult-section to be set in the present.
And it was also set in the 80s because "teh 80s are kewl". Much in the same way, M*A*S*H* and Happy Days were set in the 50s but had more 70s commentary.
Season 11 of "Happy Days", especially the finale Wedding Episode was a bit egregious with the look of some of the clothes looking more 70s (early 80s...).
