Hey Somecallmejohnny, there's a game i'd like you to do a review on, it's called Cristales it's an indie game that's a love letter to classic rpg games from the 80s and 90s, it would mean a lot to me. It's available for Ps4, Ps5, Nintendo Switch, And Steam.

The great irony of the ESRB is that it gave games company license to make more violent games, as now they weren't marketing to a general market and could advertise specifically to adults.

I think the MPAA movie rating system allowed for something similar, and that went doubly so for when they introduced the PG-13 rating.

    • @LordArikado
      @LordArikado 2 місяці тому +1

There's a second great irony to the ESRB: It was created because there was no rating system to tell parents whether a game was appropriate for their kids, and now that there is one, parents still buy adult-oriented games for their little crotch goblins and blame the publishers for it.

It’s interesting in hindsight how Mortal Kombat 3 and Street Fighter 3 more or less went through a similar process.
Game comes out with a mostly brand new cast. Some past characters are back but not enough of them, including one of the big fan favorites, (Scorpion in MK3 and Chun-Li in New Generation)
Then later they would have their Apology Editions that get people to warm up to these games and their newcomers more.

The irony of MK is as much as I love it my love didn't come from the actual fighting games. My favorite game of the MK series was actually MK Shaolin Monks. the 3D action adventure game was more appealing to me than playing the fighting games in part for two reasons. One, because I can't comprehend the commands to pull off one attack in a 2D game to save my life; and 2, I don't really have a dedicated group of people to get myself to try and learn the characters.

18:02 Regarding the SNES game appearing "squished", this is likely due to your emulator displaying the game at the internal 8:7 square pixel ratio. When this is output to a CRT it's stretched into a 4:3 ratio.
This is also why, for example, something like Mega Man the Power Battle appears to have significantly wider sprites when looked at raw compared to Mega Man 7, despite overall using the same art style.

Even though i've never really beem into MK, I've always loved how goofy Midway (now NetherRealm Studios) are as developers. Between all of the rumors that turned into characters, the freindships, and even that Pong code, you can always tell that they had fun making it.

If he ever continues with the Mortal Kombat marathon, I'd love to see a brief detour to the Injustice games. They may not have the best portrayals of certain DC characters, but they were still a fun time to play with friends.

Gotta be honest, I feel like I’ve outgrown this series and believe that literally any mainstream fighter easily beats it out from a mechanical perspective…
…But dammit, I can’t hate it. It’s still a guilty pleasure and I will forever remember my first MK2 arcade run, experimenting Sub-Zero combos in Deadly Alliance, the amount of hours wasted on Armageddon’s character creation, the entirety of my MK9 journey and so much more.
I don’t play it as much as I did before and I’ve been leaning towards Street Fighter, KOF, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Tekken ever since the end of my teens but I will forever respect Mortal Kombat.

Ah Mortal Kombat. This is the franchise that would give me my love for gaming. It was the first true video game franchise I played before Spyro and Pokemon. While I don't delve into it now, particularly because I suck at it and Other titles have interested me more (mainly JRPGs), I still look back fondly on these games and how I managed to clear the first game's Story with Lu Kang. And then I never got to play another game because My folks saw how Bloody and Violent it was and barred me from playing it until I was 10 when they stopped giving a shit about the Violence in Video Games as long as it didn't wander into NSFW territory (they still let me watch the Movies for some reason though).

I'm about 3 years older than Johnny, I was 8 at the time, and the phenomenom that was Mortal Kombat in the mid '90s just cant be meassured, it was EVERYWHERE, it was the only thing we would talk about at school, we made shit up about secret characters and finishing moves, teenagers would kick our asses at the arcades, memorizing fatalities from magazines...such fun times, hard to believe "Mortal Monday" was 30 freaking years ago.

I came into the MK series late. I had my interest peaked thanks to SGB's runs and smackdown sundays. But what got me to finally get into it was watching the movie that came out recently, i forget which year, but i had such a good time with it that i got MK11 ultimate edition on steam and will probably get MK1 soon enough.

I love hearing people talk about the AI in the 2nd game, because I watched a video on all the ways the AI cheats, and what you said Johnny is all true, but the AI is ALSO allowed to do things that literally the human player just ISNT allowed to do. Like use Sub-Zero's floor freeze and ice blast at the same time. Humans players can't do that, as you're locked from launching an ice blast when the floor has a frozen spot. But the AI is like 'nah man, screw that'.

Like you, I was a liiiittle too young when I first experienced Mortal Kombat. I was like 6 or 7 when I played Deadly Alliance or Armageddon. The only classic game I played was 3; I had 3 on the DS. I was never very good at Mortal Kombat, I just liked it back then because it looked so cool. I remember I would always play it at my cousins' house.
Fortunately, my parents never really cared that I played violent games growing up. In fact, Mortal Kombat is the only game my dad would play, so he knew what I was getting into lol

Mortal Kombat is one of a plethora of games that I love the setting, plots, and characters for but never actually played the games, or if I did it wasn't a substantial amount of it. My Autism will still have it go in a subcategory of special interests where I can tell you a lot more about a game than expected despite never playing it.
