An interesting thing about CrossFit is that you CAN ask a CrossFitter what their snatch is. And C&J, and Back Squat, and Mile time and 2k row time, etc..
They probably won't be all that impressive to somebody that primarily does Oly Weightlifting or whatever that sport is. But it means a CrossFitter can often connect to and relate with ppl from so many disciplines.
I'm pretty frequently having really good conversations with ppl from all sorts of fitness disciplines. A lot of the time learning from them. Seeing how I can apply the knowledge to what I do in CF.

I’m very obsessed with movement quality, and I kinda struggle to participate in class with people who are competitive that don’t hold themselves to the same movement standards as I do.
At the end of the day, I know I have to stay in my lane, and I use it all as a way to fuel my workouts. Today we did Cindy, and the dude next to me didn’t squat to depth, touch the floor or extend his elbows during the pushups, or even extend his elbows at the bottom of the pull-up. Probably didn’t even get his chin to the bar.
Can you imagine how good it felt to beat him by over a round? Shave reps all day, idgaf. That shit makes it allllll worth it 😂

As someone who's body proportions are pretty similar (6'4", long femurs and long arms) I've always somewhat struggled with where I feel comfortable for my hands when doing backsquats. I kind of like a really wide grip and noticed you were and the start but when more narrow later. I don't have mobility issues for my shoulders in getting to a narrow spot.

You’re talking about gym culture here. The culture is set at the top and travels downstream, like in the Army. If the leadership doesn’t accept BS and has that integrity then the company/gym will have that culture. Call “No Reps” in a gym! Rep shavers in metcons, depth or lockout in the power lifts. @18:30 I think there’s something to be said that a smaller weightlifter, or, in many cases (not all-tranquilo) male and female lifters. While the smaller and/or female lifter may be able to snatch more than a larger/male lifter, it’s reasonable that the larger/male is actually stronger than the smaller/female lifter. When incorporating technique and widening the aperture for movement, the lift becomes more dependent on technique and less reliant on strength.
    Thoughts?

Once you learn/realize someone is a rep shaver, their performance becomes completely irrelevant to yours, but agree that before you realize "oh, we started at the same point, and did the same pace, but somehow he switched at 49 and not 50 reps", it sucks. But it only takes catching them once. And sometimes people are just oblivious or can't count, but it's very obvious who the actual shavers are, they are the ones when no one is challenging them, they seem to have actual reps, but when someone is in class with them that is comparable, they suddenly "can't count right".
In our box (very "family-friendly/oriented" not a lot of "bro-stuff" going on, although a little good-natured stuff of course), we have a few that sometimes are finishing a cycle at the same time as someone else, but clearly cycling the moves at a slower rate... we often pre-discuss round times "you should complete the 10 snatches in 1:15 or less" for example... if I'm the one barely getting to 10 snatches in 1:15 (that's optimistic, LOL)... and the guy who is clearly cycling slower than me, switches at the same time as I do, I'm totally fine with that, because if the stimulus says 1:15, I don't care about their rep count even if they claim it "wrong", they are still hitting the intended stimulus if that's the guidance.
It only takes about 3 workouts with someone to know they are rep shavers and/or form cutters, which we strongly dissuade (try to cheat the movements more than a couple and a coach (including myself) is going to stop you and correct you. I wish Denise Thomas could come to every box in the nation for both accountability and coaching tips, saw her here in Ft. Worth a little while back and it was truly inspirational.

That's exactly the difference! Ego , lifting is 💯 ego. Crossfit, nobody cares what you do. We only care what we do personally. Some people don't finish a wod for 10+ minutes after everyone. We all love to see them fight themselves to the end. Lifting is black and white. Rep or no rep. Monostructual is a heavy lift. No fitness necessary. Sorry but I've been a professional athlete and I've had the worst cancer you could imagine. Crossfit saved my life. Never boring, never know what's coming. After maybe 2 dozen sports. Boring is the enemy and I think it's probably a good thing. Btw, tall, thin girl and my coach can't understand why I have great squats and snatches. Probably my past diversity. Lol. CrossFit is literally just bringing the best of multiple sports and activities to develop an all around athlete. Can a CF Athlete beat an athlete in their own sport? More often than not the answer is no. But when you have someone who is built to be an all around athlete competing in an event with multiple activities, they will most likely come out on top. Sure they may never win an actual event, but they'll only get beat by those who have specifically trained for that event while beating those who haven't. At the end of the day, they would overall have more points combined. That's all CF is and how it was explained to me by the actual HQ staff at the seminar I attended for my level 1. But I did finally put a focus on OLY and that has been all I've been training after doing CF for about 10 years.

    • @intermediate212
      @intermediate212 8 днів тому

The caveat here is that you have to have a specific and effective CF program to follow in order to become a well rounded athlete. Doing the regular 1 hour classes at CF will not make you a well rounded athlete.

The "no problem" claim is false.
      That is epic retardation.
      Please run the following experiment.
-Have any such individual track their sleep with an aura ring every single night for 90days.
-On day 91 have that individual go cold Turkey completely caffeine free for a full 30 days.
-Continue to track sleep for the duration of the experiment.
-Not a drop of caffeine at all in anyway shape or form ever for those 30 days. No coffee, no tea, no soft drinks, no energy drinks, no chocolate of any kind at all ever, no gums or candy containing caffeine in any way shape or form, absolutely *zero* caffeine for 30 days.
-Then on day 31, at 6pm, have that individual consume 150mgs every 5 minutes on the 5 minutes until they reach 1000mgs of caffeine. Then video record them the whole time for the next 4 hours and take detailed notes every 30 minutes upon observing their overall condition. And then have them report the next day how they sleep that night.
      - Then examine the effect of the 30 day abstinence, and the effect of the day 31 consumption, on their quality of sleep.
This experiment will reveal the truth.
The implications of the original comment are false.

I despise the press out rule, so much. The spirit of the rule is fine, the implementation is an evil joke though. So many amazing lifts have been taken away over the years over the most meaningless flicker of the elbows.
