And believe it or not, it's the earliest "letter-wing" fighter after the movies. I have a redesign in mind for it that keeps and actually builds in its uniqueness and personality... I just haven't got the time to improve my skills and do so. And if you're reading this, Shack, I doubt the gunner controlled the ion cannons; probably the co-pilot controlled those. The gunner had a turret, and it's pretty hard to simultaneously control forward-facing guns when you're spinning around.
H-Wing looks fun and I like how it actually has a bunk for the crew to use. I feel like it should have been redesigned as a long rance recon craft rather than a bomber. Have it fly around from system to system and fill it with sensors, ECM and such and try to be stealthy with it while scouting enemy movement.
I'd say the Vigilance being meant to combat A wings makes some sense. Military production companies compete for contracts all the time, so the Vigilance was probably just a different company's attempt to make an interceptor, but lost out to the TIE interceptor.
Production of the A-9 started five years after the battle of Endor and was faster than a Tie interceptor; but yeah it was developed by Kuat to compete against Sienar
Back in the early EU with the X-Wing games I liked the XG-1 Assault Gunboat being the Empire's response to Rebel heavy starfighters. TIE Bombers work better in swarms against capital ships or ground targets but can't really do offense in a dogfight. The Gunboat was a big target but its shields lasted and you could lay down a big field of fire.
My favorite was the K-Wing, the ultimate F*** you bomber, when something absolutely needed to die. I can only imagine how the board meeting for this craft went down. Director: Well gentleman, we have been tasked with designing the next generation bomber for the New Republic. How much ordinance should we put on the craft? Everyone else: ALL OF IT!!!

I honestly don’t like the look of the K-wing, instead I think the starfortress could be way better than it is now had lucasfilm and/or disney made it bomber version of a torrent starfighter but very beefed up (and maybe vertically stretches it a bit) and not make the bomb run in battle of D’Qar too traditional to one would be done by B-17s.
I love the Toscan 8-Q from legends. The ability to customise individual airframes depending on mission type would be huge for planetary defence forces. Depending on how fast the modules could be changed the Toscan could have a massive advantage as a carrier-based Starfighter.
The most obscure, least seen Rebel fighter has to be the B-Wing. After they veered away from the second Death Star's still active shield they were never seen again.
Apparently there were issues with the B-Wing model and the green screen technology of the time, so the ships never looked right in combat scenes. Which is a shame because we could have seen them taking down some ISDs
In the concept art for ROTJ there's a big scene where 2 B-Wings are flying over a ISD exploding. That scene never made it into the movie but if you watch ROTJ where Admiral Akbar says to concentrate all firepower on the SSD you see the ISD exploding in the background in a near similar way as the concept art. I have heard the same rumor that chris mentions about issues with shooting the B-Wing models so in my mind they would have appeared on screen at that exact moment in the movie and then the next shot would have been Admiral Akbar's command chair scene
i think other than the scraping together reason, i think rebels having every type of fighter possible could have additional benefits in not giving the empire an easy way to identify likely rebel movement vs just regular people.
That sort of was how it worked, rebels sourced their materials from anywhere they could get it and whatever they could get which had the side benefit of making it hard for imperials to track anything

T-wing and the Planetary fighter were always classic designs to me. Something intriguing about the idea of a highly customized T-wing mixing it up flown by a mercenary pilot…. There’s a story there.
Later gen T-Wings are really solid. They don't get nearly enough love because of their disappointing debut issues. Honestly really impressive for their price point nonetheless, even stock Gen 1s. I used to hate these things, the A-9 and the Howlrunners until I got under tye hood and realized how much heat their packing in such a small unassuming frame. The T-Wing really reminds me in some ways of the Z-95. Just lots of potential there. Just the right size for my purposes too, even if I might have to swallow my pride sometimes and rig up an external cargo harness ..or I guess HKD hauler brackets on the nose if I just wanna bring my swoop along. Not much you can do with the A-9 unfortunately...really hard to work on without compromising something. Mostly just whatever you can get away with swapping out and still get it to communicate with the computer. Like working on a iPhone, and attaching non Apple-approved devices and cables to it. Just a finicky lil eggshell. Would be cool to see what they could have done with these things in later iterations had they not pulled the contract and ceased production. Probably some cool prototype testing variants floating around somewhere if you got the connections and the credits. The Howlrunner is much easier but really is just fine as is for pretty much anything you're gonna want that setup for...anything else will require you to extend the cab which is fine if you just want an unarmed, unshielded civilian craft for atmosphere only with just enough cargo space for a weekend getaway or a small second seat for canyon thrill flying with a friend. But then again there are honestly far better and cost effective ways to spend your credits than converting a Howlrunner into another reason for your Mother-in-Law to complain.
I know EC Henry's long range patrol ship based on the B-Wing is fan made. But what he created with that ship is phenomenal. I would absolutely love to see it incorporated into SW at some point. Especially post Endor with the New Republic.
Dark Empire had so many "unique" ship designs. Cam Kennedy just went all out when making the ships. There's a panel where it shows a massive fleet of "Star Destroyers" orbiting a planet and there are SO many different variations of the ISD there you could literally spend a couple hours making a video describing all of them.
I’m sooooo happy the E-Wing is canon again! I’m not happy they took away the third heavy cannon on top of the canopy. I’m just hoping what they showed in Ahsoka was a variant. But I am happy it’s canon!!!! I love the design and the fact that it’s as fast as an A Wing.
I'm surprised we don't see more on the tie avenger - basically a tie interceptor with Shields, hyperdrive, warheads, and excellent performance, while still cheaper than a tie defender.
I want to see one on screen. They play a big part in the EU starting with Heir to the Empire until the end of the novel series. I'm hoping its made canon sometime in Ahsoka S.2 or the upcoming movie.

I have a few custom H Wing squadrons for Star Wars Armada. Im sure there are some stats for it out there but I usually out it on a Y-Wing base and have them as part of my uglies squadrons when I want a pirate faction, making it among the more capable ships (alongside the Chir'Daki Deathseeds) in those fleets.
My favorite Star Wars ship that the Rebel Alliance / new Republic used was the Kwing as it was a true heavy gunship that really resembled a Flying Fortress but unlike the Flying Fortress was very fast in a straight line due to its sublight acceleration motor allowing it to rapidly launch itself at Targets unload a heavy payload similar to what Poe Dameron did against the Star Destroyer we shall not name but it was also heavily armed to the teeth with guns so it didn't really require an escort unlike other bombers. Not to mention the cockpit and Gunner section of the vessel could separate and fly separately as an escape ship that was decently armed if the main body of the ship was damaged
I designed and built (on Bricklink Studio) a Lego MOC of a different sort of H-wing - a medium-duty dual turbolaser turret with A-wing engines, which could launch from a Star Destroyer, jump to the target, perform a hit and run with the turbolasers, and jump back to the SD. It could be slaved to the Star Destroyer's weapons systems or operated independently from the cockpit while connected to Star Destroyer power for much faster recharge rates.

I prefer the Toscan 8-Q to start a rebellion. Cheap and easily modifiable with no one outside of Thrawn would see it as a threat. Hope to see it in Andor.
I've always loved the Z-95 Headhunter, R-41 Starchaser, E-Wing, and K-Wing, and I do like the T-Wing and H-Wing (as designs; I'm happily ignoring that they suck in practice, as the efficacy - both in space and in atmosphere - is arbitrarily assigned across Star Wars ships independent of their physical designs, anyway) as well as the Defender. The V-Wing, too, if it weren't just a speeder.
The H-Wing would be cool with one cockpit only and droids for the other roles. I can envision one half of the craft being dedicated to ion torpedoes and other heavy anti-capital ship ordinance.
If you take a real-like aicraft, like the P-82 Twin-Mustang, into account, something like the H-Wing makes a lot of sense. Star Wars never leaned too much into computer-controlled starfighters during the Imperial Era, so having a bomber capable of light speed but with two pilots works quite nicely. The P-82 had twice the engines, twice the range, twice the survivability, and twice the pilot competency. I imagine the H-Wing would have been a bigger, heavier bomber capable of independantly hitting targets with much force.
I love obscure ships, fighters especially. Two missing from this list I can think of off the top of my head was the T-Wing, and the Miy'til (I think I spelled that right). And this is a nitpick of the highest order, but the alphabet in Star Wars is Aurabesh, and not English, so all the ABC Letter fighters kinda bugged me for a while because they wouldn't have an A, B, C, etc... But I get that it was named such for ease of understanding to casual viewers who, in 1977 especially, were not yet big on sci-fi and what it would become. Aura Wing does sound kinda cool though.
Don't worry, those Mando ships undoubtedly would have been replaced by new boring X-wing and TIE updates in the next series. One issue with Legends that extended into the Disney era was going back to the same old designs rather than sticking with newer ones.
On one hand you're right. On the other, how dare you besmirch my glorious X-wing! lol (I honestly loved that the X-wing became the new Jedi starfighter in Legends, with Luke's Jedi eventually being given the Stealth-X)
@@RamielNagisa A starfighter isn't really the right ship for a lot of missions Jedi tend to be sent on. I feel like an armed courier ship of some sort would probably be best. Able to defend itself and others, but with some cargo and passenger space.
Please talk about the Mando fighter in he legacy series, it was stealthed, made of beskar, and had a crap ton of weapons. If any ship was better then the tie defender its this thing
The Alliance could of got their hands on the Aurek Strike fighter, the original A-Wing. They were extremely compact and loved by mechanics, also very powerful for its size.
I'm surprised we don't see more examples of Rebel Uglies, damaged starfighters frankensteined together because it was cheaper than buying replacements. Yo Eck, you're one of the coolest Star Wars guys on youtube, care to make a rebel Ugly?
Not gonna lie, my biggest beef with the hwing was that 3rd cockpit. Center it, or put it in line, that wonky kinda here, kinda there location has pissed me off forever lol
Given how Beskar is ridiculously expensive an even bit tough to work with unless your a Mando armorer or trained by one... Wouldn't building super warships for good or bad be not much more then a Mando wet dream??? Did Bo Katan daydream this up just before Din Jarin show up to give her a pep talk? Mayne Din got the idea after his "baby", the other one, got basically totalled on an alien backwater? Or did Boba elect to have a unique personal ship that even a squadron backed by a way bigger ship of enemies would have a tough time with???
Honestly love seeing lesser known ships as Xwings are good just boring at this point. As for a potential episode or series I'd personally love to see What if spotlights like if the empire sided with rebel designs but kept their style of ship design. For example a simple google ship search of a imperial B Wing shows a tie fighter cockpit on a blade wing design similar to the bubble fighter from the Lost in Space movie. Just a thought as I dont see anyone exploring exploring this idea.
The H-wing was always one of my favorite not heard of aircrafts. For the longest time, none of my friends believed it existed!
And believe it or not, it's the earliest "letter-wing" fighter after the movies. I have a redesign in mind for it that keeps and actually builds in its uniqueness and personality... I just haven't got the time to improve my skills and do so.

I know not many people like it, but in the sequel trilogy (Episode 9) when the Resistance ships leave their base, you can see a B-wing as part of them
I love the H-Wing for the simple reason that it looks like the chief engineer just glued 2 A-Wings together and called it a day

The H-Wing looks like the front of two Y-Wings slapped together.
Why did they remove the mc75 submod for Thrawns revenge EAW??? Loved that ship, nice video Eck 👌
The H Wing kinda remotely reminds me of the Arc-170's bigger and heavier dedicated bomber version in terms of use and capabilities.
At least it looks like an H. Take notes B-Wing.
H-Wing? You mean the HALLO-WEENG?
5:10 VECTOR, OH YEAAAAAH, PIRANHA GUN
Talking of expensive fighters, what about prince xizors star fighter? Can’t remember the specific name but I could see you doing a sweet video
Ah, the StarViper. Always nice.
Yes!!!!! The Virago!
Please talk about the Mando fighter in he legacy series, it was stealthed, made of beskar, and had a crap ton of weapons. If any ship was better then the tie defender its this thing
Does anyone else think it's odd that Star Wars keeps naming ships after an alphabet they do not use?
The H-Wing reminds me of a F-82 Twin Mustang...
Everyone with a crayon drawing a space ship
1:58 ten years ABY is enough time that what remained of the Empire was probably scrambling to get whatever hardware they could get their hands on.
The Alliance could of got their hands on the Aurek Strike fighter, the original A-Wing. They were extremely compact and loved by mechanics, also very powerful for its size.
How? They were horribly outdated and thousands of years old, there probably wasn't any interest in them anywhere except for a collector
The A-9 looks like the Imperial Alliance fighters from Star Fleet/X-Bomber.
Can't wait for a ß-Wing
Why isn't the canon e-wing called the c-wing
Have you ever done a video on the K-Wing?
Wow I never been so early
The ship at 5:20 is just a space HIND lol
I'm surprised we don't see more examples of Rebel Uglies, damaged starfighters frankensteined together because it was cheaper than buying replacements.
Yo Eck, you're one of the coolest Star Wars guys on youtube, care to make a rebel Ugly?
Not gonna lie, my biggest beef with the hwing was that 3rd cockpit. Center it, or put it in line, that wonky kinda here, kinda there location has pissed me off forever lol
that crazy
Given how Beskar is ridiculously expensive an even bit tough to work with unless your a Mando armorer or trained by one... Wouldn't building super warships for good or bad be not much more then a Mando wet dream???
Did Bo Katan daydream this up just before Din Jarin show up to give her a pep talk? Mayne Din got the idea after his "baby", the other one, got basically totalled on an alien backwater? Or did Boba elect to have a unique personal ship that even a squadron backed by a way bigger ship of enemies would have a tough time with???
Isn't the H wing the ship that had 2 cockpits but the gunner couldn't fly and the pilot couldn't shoot?
K wing. The Star Wars equivalent of an A-10 warthog.
Have you ever done a video on hondo’s stereotypical ufo ships
"KILL MEEEEE" -other rebel ships
pretty sure the predessor to the a-wing is the R-22 spearhead.
