I love Avi's smile and tip of the hat when Tim hits that last low note 😆
It wasn't only a "tip of the hat" but more a removal of his standard beanie, but donning a COWBOY hat ....in tribute to Tim's Texas heritage and the level??
@@williemcd I always considered that a sort of "salute" from Avi to Home Free. Love it.
Precisely! @@hlbjazz
This song is done in a country reggae beat. It showcases the higher & lower ranges of both Tim Foust & Avi Kaplan. That last note of Tim is impressive with how low he goes, but more impressive is how long he sustains the note. On the "Sing Off Show" that Home Free won in 2013 Tim goes even lower on this song "Ring Of Fire" & he impressed the judges so much that they gave them a standing ovation. And Adam Rupp once again was stellar in his vocal percussion. He is in a league by himself!
Do yourself a favor and please react to Home Free's "Helplessly Hoping." It is a master class on harmony. Absolutely stunning!
It is one of my favorites also! I love how simple and clean the video is, but there are some very complex things happening with the music itself that showcase just how talented these guys are!
Your ears will thank you for listening and reacting to "Helplessly Hoping."
That I will agree! And so is "How Great Thou Art" , "Auld Lang Syne", and "Brothers In Arms"
Concur..
Yes, please and thank you! As is "Auld Lang Syne."
Avi makes a little cameo appearance in Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget.
A lot of HF's music has at least one "Tim" moment. You might enjoy Tim and Peter Hollens doing "Misty Mountains" as well.
Likewise Peter Hollens and Avi with "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair". Peter Hollens is the UA-cam god of layering his voice into a chorus. See also Peter Hollens and Hank Green "Hobbit Drinking Medley"
Tim was a tenor before his voice changed. He worked really hard over the years to keep that tenor range in his repertoire.
They all are immensely talented. Austin for his long high notes. Adam’s beatboxing. Try Adam Rupp Drum Solo (2015). He’s award winning and amazing. And Tim is incredible. He has a 5 octave range. He can sing so low. If you love bass, try Brothers in Arms. Or hear Chance (their newest member) as a baritone/bass do I Can’t Outrun You. Lots of bass. Enjoyed your reaction!😃
Brothers in Arms is a good one - both for the bass and the backgrounds.
Their song May Day is so good with Tim and Austin
Adam Rupp is the best beatboxer in the world, that's why I say Home Free is the best a-capela group in the world.
If you like bass singers, then react to the new video from The Bass Gang featuring Tim Foust! You get to hear Tim Foust's 5 octave range! I have heard Tim Foust sing as low as #G1 Subharmonic all the way as high as an A5! Tim Foust is known to bust speakers with his low resonance. I love Avi Kaplan's rich warm bass sound which is perfect for this song "Ring of Fire". You might already know that Home Free's beat boxer Adam Rupp is a 2-time world champion beat boxer. You should react to Adam Rupp's 2015 live drum solo where he sounds like he swallowed a drum set and also swallowed a sound mixing machine! If you want to hear the DEEPEST Bass singer, then react to The Bass Singers of TikTok's version of "Hoist the Colors"!
Your smile says it all! They're spectacular. Thanks for reacting to HF again.
Many people comment that Tim and Avi's basses are like bourbon and butter, the perfect description of each of them.
Check out any of the Drum Solo videos. They showcase Adam Rupp's talents, and possibly prove he has swallowed a full drumkit, plus turntable...and didgeridoo.
And harmonica... And nearly any other thing in the world that makes a noise...
@@jenniferswaim2751 Or as the "Fry's " call it, the No-Monica!
The note Avi landed was C. Tim’s last note was G1. They work well together and are friends.
Please react to Avi's solo work. He is not just a fine singer but an excellent song writer. Most people start with 'Change on the Rise'.
Adam's beatboxing was fantastic back then, and has only gotten more complex since then.
HF often has chord structures that make you say, "Hmmm". Their arrangements are superb.
Home Free is the best of the best!!!
Avi has a new song out named "When I'm A Fool".
He's with his band and playing acoustic guitar while singing. A very Bassy vocal on this one .
For more bass, try Tim's collab with the Bass Gang on Hooked on a Feeling. For more of the fabulous beatboxer, try HF's collab with the Oak Ridge Boys on Elvira. Or for Adam and only Adam, try one of his live "drum solos", such as this one: ua-cam.com/video/pZz6uhEzSSY/v-deo.html
Watched you react for the first time because you were doing Home Free, hit subscribe 1/2 way thru. I liked the analysis you did. I’ll be here for every Home Free reaction you do can’t get enough of them! ❤
I am back to listen more fully to your analysis. Loved your reaction !!!! Please, please more Home Free. In the a cappela world they can not be beat, their harmonies and lighs and lows are fabulous !!!
I meant to add you ought to see them live. I have been lucky enough to see them 8 times and Tim live is unbelievable !!! Everything vibrates, once I swear my hair was vibrating. He has even made ceiling tiles fall before.
This is such a great version of this song. Adam the beatboxer is so awesome! He has won championships. These guys are so very awesome! Love your reaction!
Ring of Fire in a more modern, somewhat reggea-like version, but still respecting the original. More than 4 years ago this was the first video I saw/heard from Home Free. I got there because I was listening to Pentatonix at the time and Avi was my favorite. Immediately there was something that drew me to Home Free. From then on I followed them and after I think 2 videos I was a real Home Fry. I hardly follow PTX anymore. Avi still does, because Avi Kaplan and Home Free let me feel music and not just hear it. Their great harmonies, the unbelievably good beatboxing/vocal percussion and of course that incredible deep bass that makes the ground vibrate and your speakers explode.
I LOVE Home Free!!!💜😍
They originally arranged this for The Sing-Off (obviously, without Avi). As good as Avi is, I actually like that version better. The judges were very impressed with it too. If you haven't seen it in a while, I would recommend watching the video that includes the judges' comments.
First timer here - I've gotta say, I love your child-like demeanor when hearing excellent musicianship -- it really reminds me of a small child being given their favorite cookie or something... and I mean this totally complimentary, it's wonderful :)
Yes! More Home Free... Thank you .. what a great New Years gift! Avi has such an awesome voice.. he truly adds his touch to this one.. Thanks for all you do.. New Sub here.. (Philly Fry) Stay safe!
Adam Rupp is the beat boxer who along with his brother Chris created Home Free which has had different members though the years Rob came next as a long time member then Tim and finally Austin.
You were right, it's called a mouth harp, or juice harp. A piece of metal that sticks out of the mouth and they twang on that.
This is always the very last encore of their shows......and Tim goes even lower. You can feel the note in your seat and in your chest.
Subharmonics are Geoff's wheelhouse; growls are Tim's. Avi's is just pure beauty.
Just fun and magnificent! I love the Basement, lol.
Tim doesn't actually use subharmonics, he has however a perfect growl. Ifyou want subharmonic bass, Geoff Castelucci from Voiceplay does that really really well
Appreciate it!
Agreed. Geoff is the king of subharmonics. And he just released a cover of Sound of Silence a few days ago. Definitely check it out
That said- i read a comment a long time ago that Tim did teach Avi about it at first but then Avi perfected it on his own because Tim does not use it as often in his own work. Something to that effect, anyway.
Geoff has a short video on how to do subharmonics, not worth reacting too but a good watch
If you really like bass try reacting to Hf's "brothers in arms"
A great bass and baritone led song by home free is their cover of dire straits “brothers in arms”
Fries call Adam Rupp the Human Drum Machine, the last note from Tim was a G1 growl he has hit BO and AO
Yes Tim and Avi sound so great together and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Tim has mentored Avi in his growth of bass singing. Tim has an amazing 5 octave vocals that is very clear and concise and Avi is more warm and velvety smooth. Adam, the beatboxer, is in a world class of his own which he created. No one does what he can do in creating multiple sounds of many instruments, seemingly all at the same time. This guy tops the beatboxers charts, in my opinion.
The Vocals!
For some heavy bass try listening to Tim Foust and Peter Hollens doing Misty Mountain from the Hobbit movie.
Subcribed, Thank you for reacting to Home Free. Love, Love Home Free and all of their collaborations. The talent of all of the Home Free group is amazing. Deep deep rabbit hole and the vast genres they have covered as one group and individually. Wow!!!! Thank you for sharing your insights today on this presentation! ❣
If you like bass sub-harmonics, check out Voice Play 's cover of Hoist the Colors.
You like bass? Listen to ‘Between a rock and a heartache’. (It’s almost a sequel to ‘Honey I’m good’). In Between, Tim frequently goes subwoofer.
Please, please, please react to Peter Hollens ft. Tim Foust (Home Free bass) singing Misty Mountains. It is spectacular!
Adam does a wonderful job on every concert which is on YT.
As a base singer Tim has the largest range I have personally ever heard from a base singer. His low register seems to be just a bit lower than any other base singer and his high register is certainly higher than any other one. Apparently he is also famous for blowing out the speakers when they perform live in concert. He does not do it all the time, but he does it often enough to be known ( good or bad ) for it.
He's good! Adam Rupp is the top of the elite of beat boxers.
Oh, you like basses? Allow me to introduce you to Geoff Castalucci and voiceplay.
Welcome to the a capella rabbit hole
Subharmonics? I think this technique was a growl, Geoff Castelucci hits some subharmonics (third Acapella group called Voiceplay). They recently did Nothing Else Matters, and you can hear some subharmonics in that one!
Usually Subharmonics are caused by activiating the 'false vocal folds" , a lot of time initiated with vocal fry, that causes them to oscillate at half of the frequency of the vocal folds, which creates makes one hear the lower octave. I've heard Geoff get down to a B0 in Voiceplay's cover of the Halo Theme. Geoff usually can hit down to G1 in chest, but has been known to go down to C1 and D1 in Subs regularly during Voiceplay and his own solo covers.
Adam the beatboxer is an actual drummer! He is a 2 time world beat box champion! He is far superior to any other beatboxer there is! Check out his solo videos which he does at all their concerts.
Calm down. Rupp's primary instrument is the trumpet, which helps him extend the phrases in his beatboxing. He did teach himself to play the drums, but it was after he started beatboxing.
There are live videos of the beatboxer (Adam Rupp) doing "drum" solos during Home Free concerts. If you watch the live video "9-5 Beatboxing Breakdown" they allll beatbox. Fall down the Home Free rabbit hole! Tim Foust (bass) has 5 octaves and both he and the high tenor (Austin Brown) are song writers - so there are originals as well as covers.
There are 2 live videos in which Tim blows out the speakers and another live video called "Tim Foust's Vibrations" wherein the whole venue literally shakes.
Hi Shaw. I being a lover of a cappella (more specifically, Barbershop Harmony), I've many times heard what were called 'overtones' and 'undertones' from four voices harmonizing clearly creating a fifth, sixth, etc. note(s). I think those are the harmonics you are referring to. Again, awesome reaction. Thanks.
Tim Foust has blown out speaker with his low notes.
❤❤
Love this song from them!! As far as the beatboxer goes you need to react to Adam Rupp’s drum solo!! I like the one where he is wearing a red plaid shirt 😮 He is awesome!! Great reaction 🎉 I love Home Free😊
Thank you for your reaction and the great information. Always here for Home Free. If you love base and harmony, I would recommend Brothers in arms, you can max out on both.
I think you may enjoy Home Free's version of Josh Turner's "Your Man" there is an official video of them singing it in one take, live in what looks like a parking garage (acoustics) There are others that are lives recording from concerts but the one on their channel has the best sound quality. Tim does some crazy acrobatics in there and Adam's percussion, while just a very simple country rhythm, is so crisp and clean. Plus, I believ Tim goes subharmonic at the end of that ne too....and ten smiles about it! LOL
You want Bass? Check out The Bass Gang! A group from all around the world, all Bass vocalists doing all the parts. They just did a collab with Tim!
This is an amazing version of Ring of Fire.
Subharmonics is a well known thing in the bass community. So your ears are not deceiving you. I'm impressed, actually. Tim can go much higher than this with a chest/ chest dominant mixed voice. He has over a 5 octave range. If you want to hear more of Tim's higher range he has a YT channel. Come Go With Me/ Stay and Since I Don't Have You are two I love. Although he sings in the "Frankie Valley" style for part these there are other songs showcasing his normal chest dominant high range. Hope that makes sense coming from a novice. Loved the video, thx!
Country swap-out from Avi. 😂 Great reaction. There's plenty of bass from Tim. Try "Fishing In The Dark/Down In The Boondocks."
React to Avi and they will come!!!!! Change on the Rise, b/w video of I'm only getting started. All is well 7 layer sessions and When I'm a Fool live at Sunset Sound. I'll subscribe for that alone. Good job.
Tim and Abi are both great but partial to Tim. Love his voice
Great video
Please react to voiceplay too it’s an another a capella group very good
I recommend you voiceplay Metallica Nothings else matters please please 🥺🥺
Have you checked out Adam Rupp's "Drum Solo"? Tim wins. Tim always wins.
G1 chest not sub-harmonic. He does a chest fry on occasion. Geoff Castalucci of Voice Play is the king of subharmonics. He does a B0 subharmonic in Valhalla Calling.
In the Home Free song "honey I'm Good" Tim does mostly the background bass beats, another great song of theirs.
Do yourself a favor, and get a good feel for Tim Foust before reacting to Home Free's Mayday and I warn you now, you'll wanna be sitting down.
Just a note that it is Tim doing the final low note not Avi.❤
Kinda surprised you haven't done any VoicePlay yet, Or Geoff Castelucci!
Tuesday!
Since you LOVE bass so much, you really need to check out the Home Free cover of Dire Strait's, "Brothers in Arms." Also, if you want to check out the beatboxer a bit more, he does have a solo video: ua-cam.com/video/EanKWLUaDpg/v-deo.html
Here is the Adam Rupp drum solo that was recommended to you.
Enjoy.

Subbing for catching a ride on your Home Hree express down this rabbit hole.
We are a friendly bunch, mostly. Just don't disparage whichever of our guys is the favorite du jour.
Point to debate? What you are labeling as a "sub-harmonic"? Is it really possible that the ultra low (G1?) is the actual and that the harmonic we're hearing is the standard "stepped up" harmonic you speak of typically hearing???? I'm a tech computer analyst so no music experience (other than listening) but do like to explore both sides of the rock so to speak.
I was wondering about that too. I know Tim Foust, Avi Kaplan & Elliott Robinson do not use subharmonics. Geoff from VP does use subharmonics & I have never been a fan of it.
It's possible but given the strength of tone, I would guess it is a subharmonic. It's possible it is produced digitally in post production but it sounds too natural for that to me. Here is an article that explains vocal subharmonics pretty well if you feel so inclined:
takelessons.com/blog/2021/02/what-is-subharmonic-singing-a-closer-look-for-vocalists#:~:text=As%20it%20applies%20to%20singing,folds%20at%20the%20same%20time.
@@ShawkaReacts actually it is a growl according to Tim no sub harmonics just a lot of practice to hear sub-harmonic try VoicePlay Hoist The Colors is a good one to hear it
@@ronfuqua2117 That's really interesting. Thanks for the info!
