Yes, welcome to Home Free, all acapella, no instruments at all. Masters of all musical genres. Organized in a college dorm in Minnesota in 2000; they won the 4th season of the Sing Off in 2013. Two are from Minnesota, one from Georgia, one from Texas and one from Alabama (Current members, Chris left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Chance). Their covers are upgrades, their medleys are brilliant, their collaborations with the original artists are inspirational, and their original songs are masterpieces. Within this 5 man vocal band you have 5 tenors, 5 beat boxers, and 2 bass-baritones. All of them can sing lead and they choose depending on whose voice best fits the song. They can do just about anything and they continue to grow and improve, yet they remain so humble. When they have featured guest artist, they support and allow their featured artists to shine. Several of them have their own channels and do some solo work. And just for fun Rob and Austin sing Opera. What else can I say? Their catalogue of work is quite large and continues to grow. You are in for an exciting journey and the Home Fries will be there for you all the way.

Thanks for this comment! Interesting that there's no dedicated alto/countertenor from a perspective of a 4-part arrangement, but from what I've seen in Ring of Fire they easily can go up the mid-upper rangers of a standard countertenor. Looking forward to discovering more of their work 🎶

Welcome to the fabulous world of Home Free, the best a cappella group out there. This song was written by June Carter who later became Johnny Cash's wife. June's sister Anita first recorded it. Love this version of "Ring Of Fire" from the "Sing Off". After this song you knew they had won the competition hands down. You can see how talented they were already back then. Hard to believe they have only gotten better. Tim is a true bass who sounds natural going low. It does not look like it takes any effort. He blew the judges away with his super low note. And Adam's beatboxing is stellar as always. Love how humble the guys are & supportive of each other. No divas in this group.

As much as I love and admire Avi Kaplan, this is my favorite performance of "Ring of Fire". There is an energy in live performance. Home Free's experience with live audiences had tightened up their harmonies, blends and timing. Here they are giving it their all in one take, and it "sounds like a record" -- to quote one the Sing Off judges. I hope you'll listen to their Christmas masterpiece very soon! Arranged by the percussionist Adam Rupp, "Do You Hear What I Hear", is beautiful! I truly enjoyed your comments and approach to analysis. Home Free is the best.

Tim hits the lowest notes in acapella, Avi's are the smoothest and Geoff C's subharmonics are out of this world. welcome to Home Free reactions. They just amazing but don't have the publicity some other groups have. Their bass, Tim Foust is a 5 octave range guy. I do prefer musch of their newer videos, especia;;y their latest, "I want crazy" a cover of a Hunter hayes classic. Actually June Carter Cash, Johnny's wife wrote this song.

I discovered Home Free before PTX. Actually that's how I was attracted to a capella. All I can say is Man of Constant Sorrow and Ain't Going Down... Adam Rupp is so unique. If you haven't seen either of them I believe you are in for a surprise. And Adam Rupp has a Drum Solo...about 10 minutes long. Kevin Olusola also has one, The Kevin Show Kevin's Fifth. They have different styles but both are spectacular

Home Free is so good. Tim (bass) went lower here than he did with Avi. Tim taught Avi and Geoff (from Voiceplay) how to go lower. He has a 5 octave range. Austin (redhead) is the high tenor. Rob (glasses) is the tenor and can sing opera. Chris (hat) is the baritone and is the founder of Home Free along with his brother Adam (beatboxer). All are super talented men. Chris left Home Free in 2016 and was replaced by Chance (another talented singer). Tim, Austin and Chance write music for the group too. They are known for their harmonies. Try Helplessly Hoping, One Man Band, I Can’t Outrun You, O Holy Night, Do You Hear What I Hear (arranged by Adam Rupp - beatboxer). Love them!😍😄

Hi, I’m a Home Free fan (Home Fry) and new subscriber. These boys are by far my favorite acapella group! They can make you laugh, cry or dance and in my opinion have the best harmonies. Thank you for a wonderful and informative reaction.

THANK YOU!!! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful (and, yes...I'm old enough to say that like Lawrence Welk used to). "Wunnerful, wunnerful, wunnerful!!!" with his lovely German accent. He was born in North Dakota, not far from where my mom was born, (an hour away from where I now live) in Aberdeen, South Dakota. When she and her two sisters were playing in their own little dance band, one time when Lawrence Welk visited down this way, the "Rainbow Kiddies" got to open for Lawrence and his crew. When I was growing up in Valdez, Alaska, after we moved there when I was two years old, we never had TV (they got it later, after I had moved away to Anchorage and other parts of the state), but we had live radio broadcasts all the time, from all over the world. Valdez is in the perfect place to catch overseas broadcasts (still). I spent a LOT of time standing in front of Daddy's wonderful radio, and learning song after song after song, which the radio reactors actually would broadcast even before the people who had TV hundreds of miles away from us got to hear them. I listened to a LOT of Lawrence Welk stuff, then, which was like 20 years after Mom got to meet them that one time. What fun!
Sorry...I was just going say how WONDERFUL this reaction is, that you just did. Your descriptions and musical wisdom just keeps getting to me. I appreciate everything you have to say, and LOVE how you present it. It just reminds me of how I was raised. So...again...THANK YOU!
Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the Avi version.

Aaaaaaaaaaand another one falls down the Home Free rabbit hole. Don’t worry the Home Fries will save you a seat 😊
You just got yourself a new subscriber.
A little info on the group
    Adam (Rupp)(cofounder): beatboxer extraordinaire.
He does vocal percussion, beats, dj scratching, other vocal instrumentation including a mean No-monica (harmonica without a harmonica) and various ambiance noises. He also has a beautiful tenor voice, but I’m certain I’ve heard him sing some baritone too… and honestly, with some of the notes he hits when beatboxing, I wouldn’t be surprised if he can sing bass as well. Oh and I almost forgot to mention he does overtone singing(Skull & Bones). He mostly sings harmony with an occasional solo line or two.
Chris (Rupp)(cofounder)(Adam’s brother): Baritone/tenor, covered bass when the regular bass sang lead in live performances. Musical director. Left the group in spring of 2016 to pursue other projects.
(Adam) Chance: baritone/bass, but can easily get into tenor range (4 octave range I’ve heard), throat singing, various vocal instrumentation (including a pretty cool electric guitar) and some beatboxing.
Rob (Lundquist): Lead tenor (pretty sure he can get into baritone range, though), pretty good beatboxer, rapper, whistler and opera singer.
Austin (Brown): High tenor (pretty sure he can get into baritone range, though), some beatboxing, various vocal instrumentation (including the No-monica and electric guitar)
Tim (Foust): Legendary bass singer(does a mean walking bass line). Of course that’s not all he does… actually Tim does pretty much whatever he wants vocally. Earth rumbling speaker destroying bass notes. And then sometimes when Austin is singing lead and they need a high harmony above Austin… that’ll be Tim too 🤷🏻‍♀️ some beatboxing. 5 octave range (working on the sixth… his own words).

Actually, as of 2020, Adam Rupp's range has been amended to B0 (zero) to G#6, which surpasses Tim's Range of A0 to A5 . I used to have the older numbers on my range chart (you can find the link to that at the top of my channel--'where it says, "+ 6 more links"). But lately, I had been hearing Tim say that Adam's range is quite a bit more than his, now. So I did the research, and...yup! It is! 😀

It's interesting to me to scroll through these comments and see all the Home Free fans comments - they read exactly like the PTX fan comments! I think both groups are clearly strong acapella groups; the difference is in the appeal of the genres they sing. I'm not much of a country fan so don't know most songs HF do, though I can appreciate the harmonies (I do love Austin's voice). But for me, PTX still holds my heart - I prefer the intricate pop arrangements and medleys they do. I do love the version of this song with Avi - that dueling bass is fabulous! New subscriber. Great reaction, too! I love it when people discover Home Free. They are a freakishly talented group of fellas that excel in all music genres. They can make you laugh sometimes, they can make you cry sometimes but they always impress. Here's a cheat sheet on the group: Adam Rupp, co-founder of HF and the awesome beatboxer. Tim Foust, bass. He has a five-octave range. Rob Lundquist (glasses and beard) Tenor Harmony. Austin Brown, Lead Tenor. Adam Chance, Baritone ( goes by Chance). Chance replaced Chris Rupp (co-founder) who left in 2016. Take Me Home Country Roads is phenomenal but you might also want to check out Dreamer, When A Man Loves A Woman, End Of The Road, One Man Band, American Pie featuring Don McLean, I Swear, Blue Ain't Your Color, Dive Bar Saints, The Driver, Crazy and Folsom Prison Blues. For some funny ones: Butts Medley, All About That Bass, Champagne Taste, Hillbilly Bone and Ray Stevens' Mississippi Squirrel Revival. For some serious ones: How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain. When you are familiar with all the boys and their vocal roles, do Mayday. And last but not least, Brothers In Arms. It is haunting and beautiful. They have recently released several new songs that you will want to check out. Unchained Melody, Listen to the Music, Brother and Stargazer Lilies trilogy: Give Me A Sign, Stargazer Lilies and Mr. ...Their latest releases are Might As Well Be Me, Playing With Fire, Remember My Name, Oh, Pretty Woman and Life is a Highway. New Home Free sub. Boy, are you in for a treat. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are the "warm and fuzzy" a cappella group, in my opinion. We all want to hang out with them. Just wait. You'll want to hang with them, too. Plus they're vocally brilliant. They sometimes arrange their own stuff. They have originals. Their covers are amazing. It's all brilliant. I like Pentatonix, but they leave me cold and are overly produced sometimes. Just saying. ASIDE: The home free fans are extremely loyal. Just sayin'. You'll see. ;) AND well, shit, your transcription is on point. I'm so impressed. Sorry for the language. Will I be kicked out? I'm a nerdy musician, too. I love this.
