Absolutely! Then yes, we are definitely glossing over it. I had also initially forgotten to put it in EC mode when going through the steps, which causes it to only send XYZ controls. I figured it out with a little toying around, but could have saved myself some time by being more attentive. Thanks for the tut, BTW.
The external control option is covered at 1min into the first video and a few seconds into this video. I have a feeling most issues are caused by people skipping through the videos trying to get in a hurry. Been too long since I have used my KP3, but this video seams to work for setting up on 64bit systems as well. Thanks for the reply.
You posted this 4 months ago, so you probably already figured it out. For those that have not, a step that I don't believe was explicitly mentioned in this tutorial is that the KP3 has to be in external control mode (shift+8). It will only recognize the X & Y controls. :3
That's a cool question, Sadly I only own the one Korg product. But with the midi in and midi out ports on the back I would imagine it can control any midi event on any other device. The sounds that are built in can't be changed but the KP3 and Kaossillator pro are pretty much the same hardware just flashed with different software. With that said, I don't think it's possible to easily modify it to act as a kaossilator. You could go with one of the small kaossilators and hook it to the KP3 .
You probably just forgot to disable the pad itself. In one of the videos I cover this, been so long since I have had my KP3 out I have gotten rusty on any of the settings. And time hasn't allowed me to do much but work. Hope this helps some.
Great tutorial I have my KP3 set up now and can control grand VJ, but have had a problem with Onyx - using mid2 it connects, learn mode makes some of the controlers pink, but not the cross fade (like yours), clicking on a controller and moving the kaoss fader does not do anything!! am I missing somthing? What version og onyx are you using? Thanks PC vista
Thanks for the vid! But I still can't get my KP3 to output different CCs for each collumn of pattern 4 (or any other pattern). It always outputs the same CC for X and another for Y. Tried everything during 2 days with no luck. Any ideas? Other stuff also seems strange, like some changes I make on the Editor and send to the KP3 don't "stick"... like changing the program memories to notes instead of CC, or setting different min and max values to the slider. The KP3 ignores this changes... thanks!
I've got her working now, but I do notice that the KP3's pad doesn't seem to handle the manipulation of multiple CCs at once - I can get all 8 controls of the Pad's Pattern 4 set up to different parameters, but the pad seems to freeze if I try to multi-finger the pad to manipulate several parameters at once. Is this something you have experienced?
sadly my KP3 has been in it's box for almost 3 years due to lack of space, But I think I could only use one channel on the pad at a time, probably something with how the touch interface works. Never had had it freeze up, may want to reflash the latest firmware from korgs website to it and see if that fixes your freezing problem.
Hi Kaoss is working grest but can you tel me how to load videos into onyx ? The web site talks about editing xtml but cant find this file or any video folder Thanks
Hi sir, i have a problem, maybe you can help me. Everything i want to export a configuration appears an error message, telling me that any Kp3 is found! i can't receive or transmit anything to the Kp3 When i load samples in the card and i want to load them an error message paperer again and i can't load anything Please, could you help me with this? Thanks a lot in advance
Make sure you watch the first video, if you don't have all the settings like I show in the videos, you'll get errors. Now that youtube allows longer videos I plan to update my vids on the KP3 someday when I get space and time. Sorry I don't have a direct answer for you, but I have not had much time to play with my KP3 in many years :(
Hello Jeff, I can't send midi messages from live to a synth through the kaoss pad. Do you know why?. It only sends and receives midi from the kaoss pad. Isn't possible to used the kp3 as a midi interface?. Rolando
from what I remember you can use it to send midi commands. you need to make sure the switch (push button maybe) is set to "Send" the KP3 will then send midi signals out of the midi ports. Check the documentation though. I'm pretty sure it's covered in it.
Mad Mac 66 this isn't true. On the back of the kaoss pad are two midi (in / out) ports, as well as sending midi signals through USB. Five minutes reading the manual that came with the pad covered this.
Jeff Richtman I have read the manual, several times, and nowhere does it state it has MIDI thru. Sure it has MIDI out, but that’s not the same thing. Moreover, I was informed by a well respected music guy (perhaps incorrectly I dont claim to be an expert) that the kaoss line did not handle MIDI thru. Cheers
Mad Mac 66 I misread, I thought they wanted to use the Kp3 as a midi sender. Press button on Kp3 sends midi signal to equipment. This will work since the KP3 is a midi device. Don't forget probably the best person to ask is really KORG company which has a UA-cam channel as well.
Hi. Had Kaoss pad which I bought for my son to play on too for a few months. Question: can Kaoss pad 3 control the notes of a synth such as massive, fm8 and the like and emulate Korg's other product Kaossilator pro (I think it's called. I would be such a cool dad in my son's eyes I you could show me how on a vid? Cheers.

mine says you need to download a midi-usb device.... which one exactly

Yes. D/L the "beatfader" m4l device. Map it to a fader, choose a scale and a synth and here you go.
to use as MIDI you only need the usb cord.
Is anyone still here?
PIRATE ;-) lol
