- IN THIS TUTORIAL WE WILL LEARN HOW TO SETUP THE KP3 AS AN EXTERNAL EFFECT PROCESSOR. IN THIS WAY YOU CAN USE THE KP3 EFFECTS IN EVERY CHANNEL OF YOUR AUDIO MIXER IN CASE YOU NEED MORE THAN ONE INSTRUMENT BE EFFECTED AT A TIME.
EXAMPLE: YOU CAN PUT REVERB ON THE GUITAR AND THE VOICE HAVING THE CONTROL HOW MUCH REVERB YOU WANT TO PUT ON EACH INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENT / CHANNEL

Is the FX Send on your mixer actually stereo? I have a Samson MDR624 which is similar to yours in layout and features, but I believe my Aux Send is mono (though I do have a Stereo Aux return). Would I still use the same kind of cable you used for your FX Send, the one that is TRS (stereo) 6.35mm to RCA?

I have the behringer 1204fx and run in the same problem as others here. when i connect the way like in the video i only have effects on the left channel. i now connected it on de mic input of the kp3 and that problem disapears. but also the problem that the original sounds still keeps playing together with the modulated sound from the kp3. i dont know how to solve this.
I have the connection from the KP3 to the mixer's FX Send/Return. But the effect doesn't come out with the full depth.

I have a issue, when i send a loop fx from korg kaosspad i can only the effect in the left speaker do You know why? Inhave the Allen anda Heath zed 6fx

Hi, I did all of this but no matter what I do when sampling with kaoss pad 3 its always mono... if I have connected both L/R then it plays only on one channel, if I only connect mono channel then its mono... But it is never stereo, no matter what I do
I have changed cables, I have changed channels but it always samples one channel when stereo is connected, pls help

ich habe ein großes Problem mit meinem Kaoss Pad 2. Ich möchte das Gerät über die Send Return Anschlüsse an meinem Allen & Heath Mixer anschließen. Im Gebrauch wird das unverfälschte Signal mit dem verändertem Signal überlagert. Dies klingt, wie ich finde, nicht wirklich gut. Wenn ich den Ton über den Kopfhörerausgang abhöre, dann höre ich ausschließlich das mit Effekten veränderte Signal, welches viel viel besser klingt. Jedoch wird der Ton nur durchgeschleift, solange ich den Finger auf dem TouchPad habe. Lässt man dieses los, verstummt der Sound. Lässt es sich nicht realisieren, nur das Effektsignal ohne Überlagerung zu spielen? Das Gerät ist korrekt verkabelt und der kleine Wahlschalter auf der Rückseite steht auf FX. Ich bin ein wenig ratlos und frustriert und hoffe auf eine Hilfe von Dir. Vielen Dank im voraus.

if you turn the kp3 in midi device you can use the toucpad for x-y effects for ableton live.... how to do this you can look up tutorials for KP3 as a Midi Device, unfortunately i have no time to do this at the moment. i hope you find if not i help you....cheers and thanks for watching.
hey there, yes i use ableton live, the kp3 you can use as a midi device as well. i use it use as an external effect device and play around for ideas ;-)

i think the kaoss pad, and the kaoss pad quad is ideal for external
dj effects! actually it is even more fun!
This is probably a very dumb question but if my mixer doesn't have an FX knob, I can't do this...Correct?
My Problem: I've got an Stanton RM-Three and a Kaoss Pad KP3. But the signal of the Master Out is parallel with the signal from the KP3. So, the Filters don't work. And the Looper. And the Delay. And Slicers. And so on. Can you help me? :-S

I'm trying to setup my kp3 in send mode using a Yamaha MGP16X but I find keep hearing the dry signal on top of the fx which is alright for reverbs but doesn't work for filters and loopers.
Can you help out please?

I have the same problem using a Phonic AM240D mixer and KP3+. I also can hear the dry signal on top of the fx and also filters and loopers appear only on right channel, whereas reverbs and grain shift seem to work in stereo.

Hi. I wonder if you could show me how to use kp3 as a send into ableton just through an interface like my motu 828. I have some double ended quarter inch cables going to double rca's for the kp3 end. I set them up as another tutorial says into interface outputs 3/4 through a return track, put the send on a channel and --- nothing. It wasn't your tutorial but I'm just wondering if you'd do one for that. Cheers. Tchus
HI, When connecting the KP3 in this manner am I still able to record samples and loops onto the KP3 and play them or will it eliminate this function as the output is not going to its own input source on the mixer? If I can pls tell me how to do this.. Would it work if I ran Y cables from the outputs (one going to FX Return and one going into a channel on the mixer) and change between direct and send on the KP3 when I need to sample and play back samples? Want to buy this but need both functions
what background music are you using? the one with the vocals.

yeah i remember having this kind of problem i will think about it, but if i dont remember bad, in the kaoss pad manual there is even written something about it, only certain things can be effected with these effects!
what do you mean parallel with the kp3 signal?
after being processed in the kp3 your signal out from the stanton
cannot go directly into the speakers if this is what you doing!
I just bought a macky 12 chanel mixer. But the FX send is post mixer. I read in the manual of the xenyx 802 that this is also the case with your mixer. This means that there is no way to have a pure 'wet' sound. Whats going on? and does anyone have tips for a mixer that does have pre-fader effects send?

Mister Onemoveahead yes i expected that that could be possible. I just got explained that that's a post/prefader problem. i could make it work with a aux send. I think that's ok though. If i get a mixer with aux send it will be more costly.

Thanks for the great tutorial, which is perfect for me because I am setting up: Electribe ESX into a Phonic Helix 12 Firewire Desk (w/stereo returns), using a Korg Kaoss Pad Quad as the aux send device. But I noticed some annoying things I hope you can comment on?
With this setup in the video, can you make your aux return 100% wet with no dry signal at all? For effects such as Low Pass Filters, this is essential, no?
On the Quad, when you switch to "Send" mode, it only passes sound through when you touch the pad. This is annoying because I want 100% wet, so I leave it on direct mode and mute the channel to get 100% wet, using only the Aux for volume. Is there a better way?
This causes one more annoying thing because this Quad I have, makes the ESX mono! Even though I plug in both L & R channels from the ESX into the Quad, everything becomes mono :( is this the same for you with your setup here?

Hello, I want to you Volca Keys + KP3 on Xone4 with Traktor. Is it possible to sync it and have it lets say on Deck D?
I don't have a xone4 but it has midi and the kp3 does so you should be able to sync them both together using that

i just now had the same problem, i can hear the synthesiser and the drum beats, but noting anywhere else, so i went out of mixer booth to in on kaos then out to amp.

Hi great tutorial! I do have a similar mixer to yours but I stumbled upon a problem. I can use the effects well but with sampling I find when the sample returns or triggered it only play on my left speaker. Is there a fix for this?
I discovered the same problem, I think it has to do which eFX is used, some are not stereo effects thus only output left/mono...try some other FX and see if the problem persists.
with this connection your sampler works setero or mono? in my mixer sampler works mono qith the same connection that you,

did you raise your mixers depth signal? you need to raise aux/return signal!

Can this be use for vocal effects, such as reverb thru the mixer?
I think your problem is that your mixer has a post-fader fx send (I have the same problem)
so when you use the kaoss pad, there's still some dry signal sounding at the same time... unfortunately there's no solution for this, except getting a mixer with pre-fader fx send (that way you can raise the volume of the fx send while keeping the volume of the desired channel down, hence killing the dry signal)
You can try the AUX return know all the way up, but that might add some noise or distortion

What to use here as " stereo aux return". Connecting kp3 + xenyx 1002fx ." Perhaps Just return the FX signal through a stereo input?"

Thanks for the video. I am noticing that with some effects (delay specifically) it only comes across on the left channel. I've tried swapping cables and mixer settings but no change. Any ideas? (from anyone). Other effects seems to appear on both channels. Thx!
yes it is because the low cost mixers only have mono aux return ;-(

clonboymusic thanks for the reply. My mixer does have stereo audio sends. It's odd like banks 1-4 are all single channel and remaining banks act in stereo. I contacted Korg it may have to go in for service.

hi it is written in the explanation: it is a behringer xenyx, 1202 very cheap, it is completely ok, but i wouldnt use it
for serious recording on a professional level
with this setup - is it possible to record loops on KP3 and play them (together with using effects) ?

Nice vid friend but im fucked with my new djm2000 doesnt sound good at all it sound distorted when i try to put same levels on different channel. Ive worked in my old djm500 since first day with send and return and always worked perfect. And now........ Fuck. Thanx anyway. I can get good sound but to low in compare with the other line.
Do you do courses? If I were to buy one of these, theres no one I know who knows how to use it, can you help or do you know where I could find a course like this?
hi maree, thanks for your comment. unfortunately i do not do any courses. but my recommendation is: read the manual and just go through all the steps the manual tells you. a lot of people just unpack and start fiddeling around on every tool they get. there is so much to learn in the manuals that you can use later or adapt for your own needs. indeed manuals are a forgotten resource. and only then go for more tutorials in youtube. best wishes

i think it is mostly made for people singing, or beatboxing into the kp3 just plugin your mic and switch to the mic input i think it was (sold my kp3, hoping to get one soon)

A little late to this party but umm came you sample incoming audio from the Fx send or does that not work like that? Also if you have samples on the sample banks does it send them back as well as the fx? Hope my question makes sense. I know it’s an old video but I love ur KP3 content and I feel it’s still a relavent tool to this day. :)
hi galexy333, so let´s see. as you switch to ext on the back of the kp3 it does not act like a normal kp3 anymore so i am not sure (as i sold it some time ago) if you would be able to do this) i remember that you would need the direct mode in your case. ;-) greetings..

thank you very much ;D. actually it is meant to be an instant effect, kind of free styling, but i think as you can use it as a midi controller in ableton you might be able to automate it. i sold my baby a few months ago, thats why i can't try these cool things at the moment. let me know ;-)

Sorry, but this is very stupid tutorial. Behringer XENYX 802, 1002, 1202 doesn't have stereo fx send.. It is MONO and, if you insert stereo Y cable, It wouldn't be stereo. It feeds only one side (Left)
And next issue is: If you are using the KP3 in the effect loop (Aux send/fx return), only reverbs and delays are working properly everything else doesnt't work like it should, because it's only parallel effect (dry signal still will be there).
I bought 802 because of this video in the past and then realised, that video lies. Then I was using Kp3 after 802 (802 mix stereo outputs -> kp3, and kp3 output -> headphones/speakers...).
But I would recomend to get the mixer with 3&4 bus and then send channels which you want thru this stereo bus into kp3 and from kp3 back to empty stereo channel in the mixer. It is working very well, it effects channel which you want, or group of them.. And there is no issue with parallel dry signal, you can control dry/wet by your "Fx depth" control on the KP3
Audio goes like this: instrument->mix channel->bus 3&4->kp3->mix stereo channel->main bus 1&2->output. Channel should be switchable to be sent to 1&2 or 3&4 bus (sub bus/alt bus)
How much does this cost though, watch it be like 1K
