I particularly hate how people LOVE to point out that I'm red, like okay I know, my face turns red all the time, just what do you want me to say?! Normalize Rosacea!
I can't tell you how many people have yelled "oh my god you're so sunburnt!" and I reply thanks that's just my rosacea. Why do people feel the need to point out these things?! Use this rule of thumb: "Don’t comment on someone’s appearance unless they can fix that thing in 5 seconds or less"
@@free23456 yes. Its a powder, easy to use, doesn't rub off easily. Im a guy and use it daily. It looks like my skin not makeup I get it on QVC. I use the original one
Rosacea was the first sign that I had gastrointestinal issues but I did not know it at the time. I found this out when I had my gallbladder removed earlier this year. "Research shows people with rosacea have a higher prevalence of upper gastrointestinal, or GI, disorders, including esophagitis, GERD, SIBO, IBS, Crohn disease, Barrett esophagus, gastritis, nondiabetic gastroparesis, and diverticulitis." Want to share this info. as the dermatologist office NEVER mentioned a link to gastrointestinal issues.
@madisonrasmussen3249 Unfortunately, we have to do a LOT of research on our own. UA-cam has many videos about rosacea and the link to gut health. Find Dr. Eric Berg' DCs YT channel, then search within his videos "rosacea". Watch and read everything you can find on CAUSES of rosacea, not just treating it. It sucks that we have to be our own advocate.
I had a consultation with à naturopath and wow. I saw result.. go girls, à still use products for my skin but alimentation help à lot!!! Try no add sugars( no Juice, no 7up, no dessert, no chocolat) no products with milk ad look your skin 2 weeks laters!!! The Last things that i didnt try is cut gluten!! But à lot of People of community of naturo said that help too! Who gonna try?
Thank you for this video. I'm commenting with some of my triggers to potentially help anyone else with rosacea that finds this video in the future, because often the triggers are not obvious and differentiate from person to person. -Using a heavier moisturizer or using too many layers of skincare and sometimes "slugging" - Using too much niacinamide (niacinamide is already in pretty much every skincare product nowadays, so it is very easy to overdo it) -Chocolate T^T -Energy drinks -Any kind of chemical exfoliant (aha, bha, pha) no matter how "gentle" -Seasons changing -Any skincare with peppermint in the ingredients. ( Also, I'm also trying to figure out if burning peppermint essential oils might cause a flare up.) -Working out or doing physical activities - Using a gua sha might also cause redness for the rest of the day (not 100% sure on that one yet) Some things that I find help - Ingredients such as aloe, licorice root, green tea, centella, and using a tiny bit of rose hip seed oil - A cooling face ice pack ( but be careful because this might do the opposite in some people ((also never use ice directly on the skin)) -Using a cold can of soda or water from the fridge and rolling it along the face. - Tumeric sheet masks - Hydrating - Everything she said in this video This video was very helpful and everyone's comments were very helpful too! I am still trying to figure out all of my triggers, and I hope that this helps. ^•^
Acids really help me, like the stronger the better. My fave is sensitive to everything else from fragrance to oats but after a peel my face stops hurting for a day or two.
Claims - products that specifically say they help rosacea. I’ve been told that products that are “cooling” or targeted to redness are oftentimes not good for rosacea. So I’ve been using Biologique Recherche products for rosacea and they have completely changed my skin. Before that, everything upset my rosacea. I’ve also been told rosacea is an indicator of inflammation somewhere else in the body so finding the source is the best way to help control it. Treating the skin condition is just part of it.
Been dealing with rosacea for two years now and started seeing improvements when I simplified my skincare and started seeing a dermatologist regularly. I was prescribed Azelaic acid at 15% twice a day and metronidazole cream twice a day and within 6 months my postules and most of my redness started to finally go away. After a full year I stopped having postules flairing up and had minimized my redness and irritation, as I learned that I had dietary triggers such as capsicum that caused many of my flair ups. I also avoid skincare products with propolis and fermented products and oddly enough a lot of centella products irritate my rosacea. I have combo skin so my rosacea are alongside my cheek areas only. I’ve been using tretinoin for wrinkle preventative care but I only apply on forehead and smile lines and T zone area while also avoiding my cheeks area and I will apply metronidazole on my cheeks area instead when I notice redness or irritation. Ingredients that have helped include glycerin, ceramides, matcha, green tea, and niacinimide. It’s definitely a journey but I promise if you’re suffering from rosacea and you improve your diet, stress management, understand your skins emotions like Dr Idriss explains and see a good dermatologist you’ll get it under control too ❤
Thank you so much for your comment…I’ve recently included Centeal and it’s breaking me out 😮🤦🏼♀️ also I use fermented products and this helped me to rethink about my routine ❤
Thank you. I’m 60 years and I just got diagnosed with rosacea. It started last summer, but I remember my Mother telling me that I’m “allergic to the sun and heat.” So, here I am now, living in Texas, lol. Your videos are always so helpful.
@@Jasmine215100 I think I’m still kind of in denial about it. I’m going to check out a neck fan, but the reviews I’ve read have said they’re great - except they’re also loud.
I was diagnosed with rosacea 2021 and changed my doctor recently as no progress was made (but thousands of euros were spend). I feel so helpless, i am 35 and never experienced even "okay" skin. I react to a lot of different (healthy) foods, such as nightshades, especially tomatoes, gluten, dairy and changed my diet to a point where its not fun to eat anymore. I am now taking isotretinoin. My new doctor had good experiences with it. Hoping for the best.
I’m sure you’ve looked into histamine intolerance but if you haven’t, it may help. I started using histamine blockers and special probiotics last week and it’s made a world of difference. Like you, I’ve had to cut out nightshades, avocados, kefir/yogurt, tinned fish, leftovers, chocolate, plus so much more. Unknowingly, I’ve had rosacea all my life, types 1-4. The last few years, it’s like chemical burns all over my face and neck. Changed my diet, tried different supplements and topicals but nothing really helped. I’ve started the Seeking Health brand (not sure if it’s available in Europe) and it’s been a big change. Use four different supplements and my skin and body have began to calm down, as well as joint inflammation.
Thanks for sharing your journey 🙌🏼 the same here. Once I started to avoid all the high histamine foods (see Low Histamine Diet Guidelines by BioCeuticals available online), my skin improves. Also, taking skin probiotics daily help 🙏🏼
@@bonnie_nelms my current brand is Inner Health (Skin Shield 26 Billion Live Probiotics). All info available on its website. Taking one daily and reduce histamine food have made a BIG difference in my rosacea. Besides, a simple and gentle skin routine (organic Aloe Vera face wash, Peptides serum,Hyaluronic Acid and Cucumber gel for daytime, Mesoprotech 50+ sunscreen). Hope it helps ⭐️
Rosacea lady here! Your videos have taught me MUCH about what to look for in skincare products; reading the inci list is more helpful than the marketing claims. I look for azelaic acid or potassium azeloyl diglycinate; niacinamide, ceramides, non comedogenic emollients. Thank you for your content. My skin has never looked better. Sunscreen of course! Beauty of Joseon is my pick
Retinoids have helped my rosacea so much. You just have to start very slowly and use the right retinoids. I use granactive retinoids, retinALs, and adapalene. My rosacea skin loves them. But I also need to use products with centella, ceramides, licorice, and azelaic acid.
Suffering from rosacea since 10 years, I really undertand that the skin barrier has to be restored first. Than we can help with serums to control redness. For me fragrance doesn’t matter. Green color is a plus but not mandatory. I already have ivermectin so I will add azalaic acid to get a winning combo. Cannot wait to see in-office treatments!
I don't look at claims for a long time now. I learned what ingredients are good for which skin condition, so i just look at ingredients. Centella for the win when it comes to redness. The Skin 1004 sunscreen is the best, whereas the overhyped beauty of joseon one makes me lobster red. Also thanks for bringing the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast balm to my attemtion, it is the single best product for my rosacea and my skin just drinks it in so fast, I'm so amazed by it. I'm looking forward to your vid about the red eyes, coz I have it and the only eyedrop that seems to help is actually a french one named Cationorm. It's an emulsion, it has glicerin in it, I don't really know how it works, but it doesn't sting like other eyedrops.
I rosacea journey started when I was 25, and I'm 46 now. I'm happy to see more education about it these days because when I was first dx the dr explained nothing and just wrote a script for metro cream (which didn't help). Today I am much for informed about my skincare. I look for products that claim to be calming, soothing, and for the most part fragrance free. I tend to have a flare up at least 1x when the weather changes to colder winter temps. I usually use Soolantra when it flares and it seems to work. I also have been using prescription Adapalene for several years with no problems. I would like to move up to Tretinoin but haven't yet. Would love to see more on in office treatments!
Im 24, but it’s very similar with me also I only get rosacea flare ups when the weather changes to colder temps. I want to know should I only change my skincare routine during that time of the year as the rest of the year Im very comfortable using aha’s and retinols in my routine.
I'm almost 40 and I've had rosacea for about 10 years now. I usually look for products labeled as "calming and soothing". I've been using Physiogel A.I. Cream as my moisturizer and it's helped my skin (eczema and rosacea prone) a lot. My rosacea is now mostly limited to a cute flushing, instead of an emoji with bright red cheeks. Also, my doctor asked me to get a bowl and put some cold milk and pat it onto my face for when I have flare ups that are just so uncomfortable (hot, burning and itching sensations). This milk trick has helped tremendously in terms of easing the discomfort. But I also go in for laser treatments once in a while when I am having a hard time controlling a flare up.
Azelaic Acid has become a holy grail ingredient for me!!! I really love the Naturium Azelaic Acid 10% emulsion and the Peach Slices Azelaic Acid. Both are fantastic and I have never experienced pilling with either product. I use it in both AM and PM routines.
As a type 1, I have reduced the severity by addressing systemic inflammation and now, sorting out my microbiome. But in matters of skincare, I look for fragrance free, anti-inflammatory ingredients and anything with green tea. I also just started using Derma E Pure Biome Balancing Cream and Cleanser and it seems to be calming down the redness. The cream contains ingredients such as, Aloe, Glycerin, Centella Asiatica, Cucumber, Panthenol and more.
This! Because we’re not allowed to touch the stuff that addresses lines and melasma etc 😢 I find getting IPL has taken years of damage off my face though so maybe that’s where to keep investing?
Same here, my sensitive and peri-menopausal skin has been even more sensitized for the past couple of weeks and I've had major flare-ups on my face (lovely !). And yes, I'm also a pale Celt, so the rash on my face looks truly delightful! I had to cut out all products except the trusty La Roche Posay Cicaplast - truly a magical product! Seems to be the only one that soothes and calms the inflammation down. Along with Aveeno Calm & Restore Oat cleanser & toner - thank you Dr Idriss for introducing me to that fantastic range (and so affordable). Retinol would probably burn my face off right now!! 🤣🔥🤣
I have rosacea for 8 years.... and beside a good lifestyle, those are products that helped me: face wahs- cucumber by boots, tea tree & witch hazel by boots, khiels, cosrx, purito, tonik/serum/ essence- khiels tonik, vit c purito, mugwort essence, vichy 89, innisfree hyaluronic acid, rice cerum hyram selfless (the best ever), cream- khiels, purito, nala, hydrabio bioderma, shiseido waso, its skin aloe vera.....
Hypoallergenic is one that helps with me. The Avene tolerance line has been a life saver! Most products even those for sensitive skin irritate me and cause flare ups
I look for products that are fragrance-free, alcohol-free and essential oil-free. Also i go for products that contain niacinamide and centella asiatica. You look amazing!! Thank you for making another video for rosacea, you have helped me a lot to pick better products more suitable for my skin type.
I’m 25 and never had skin issues until last year I started getting some redness under my nose and my mouth. My derm said I was showing signs of mild rosacea 🙏🏻 I’ve been using an over the counter azelaic acid and sulfur and it’s been a godsend! But I definitely get perioral dermatitis and rosacea around those areas! Thank goodness for videos like this and for YOU and the education you bring!!! Makes me feel empowered ❤
I got perioral dermatitis from topical prescription meds from my derm but never diagnozed as rocasea and never thought I had rocasea until I start using azelaic acid and my pink face just suddenly calms down 😭❤️ so glad of these derms online that educate us
hi i had ezcema around eye skin area where it was puffed up bright red and as that settled it was very dry itchy flakey and then after a week of eumovate ointment the doctor prescribed it settled down and wasn't itchy anymore and skin was smooth but there was a slight shade of redness, like a discolouration look that i can't seem to get to fade. i was hearing a cream with vitamin k would work as it's said it can fade bruises or reduce appearance of scars apparently but wether it's safe enough for around the the eye area. see other places on the body healed up and went back to normal skin colour ok but it left me with a graining leathery look where the ezcema patches were but the eye skin area redness seems to be hard to fade for me.
I would love to see more about in office treatments! I’m a pharmacist and I know how much marketing plays into claims on products like cold medicines so I always go by active ingredients when I’m buying my skincare
K I don’t know know if I am just red or have rosacea but I look for calming, soothing, redness relief, and fragrance free products like you said. There are also certain ingredients I look for like centella, oats, ceramides, arnica, etc.
Aveeno’s Oat Cleanser is good. Clinique’s redness relief moisturizer is good. I recommend Purito’s sunscreens because if you’re REALLY sensitive like me it’s a great formula. There’s 2 of them right now.
I just got my hands on the new Purito sunscreen and excited to try after two years of using the Isntree SPF and Biossance mineral sunscreen. Glad to read good reviews from others
Oh yes, a video about in-office treatments would be very useful, thanks! One note about that Paula's Choice product--it does have 2% salicylic acid, which is a great ingredient but may be drying/irritating if your face is already dry and irritated. I also keep the Ordinary one on hand and use that if my face is in a bad mood.
Thanks for the vid!! I just got my Depuffer and I’ve been using it for about a week! I’m super pale and prone to redness around my nose and cheeks and I’m already seeing improvements. I’m also pretty sensitive (easily irritated, especially around my mouth and eyes) and this does not bother my skin. I avoid around my mouth still just to be safe 😊😊
Dr Shereene don't kill me for this lol - I got my very first Papulopustular Rosacea flairup last year September. I thought I had adult acne out of nowhere, and things I tried on my skin to clear it only made it worse, so I went to my Dermatologist who diagnosed me with Rosacea and put me on a 3 month antibiotic. 2 months in and it caused horrible morning nausea so I had to stop it. About a week after stopping it, I developed severe anxiety caused by the antibiotic. A month later I got a second Rosacea flairup. I had one month left for the antibiotic, so I started it again. 2 days after starting it, my anxiety came back. I stopped the antibiotic and decided to treat it naturally, because I don't want to be on and off antibiotics along with side effects for the rest of my life. I did some research, and found suggestions for Tea Tree oil and Lavender oil. I've been using these in a diluted mix on my skin for almost a week now, and my Rosacea is actually better/clearing up! If you'd asked me about essential oils for the skin 2 months ago, I would have laughed and said "absolutely NOT!". This experience really has changed my views on essential oils, at least for Papulopustular Rosacea. My skin is happy, and so am I! I do wonder if me being on Retin A contributed to my very first Rosacea flairup, so I have not used Retin A again since on my skin. Obviously, I always advocate for getting diagnosed FIRST by a Dermatologist (don't just assume what you have) but if you also suffer from side effects of antibiotics for Rosacea, give Tea Tree and Lavender oil a try. Do NOT use these directly on the skin ever!!! Tea Tree oil undiluted is especially dangerous. However, diluted in a mix, it has definitely helped me clear my Rosacea. I've tried Azelaic Acid and Niacinimide in the past countless times (before my first Rosacea flairup) and every time I try either of them, my skin breaks out in little pustular spots. Needless to say, I don't bother anymore. This is why I would never even consider a prescription Azelaic Acid. Finally, I do also wear SPF everyday especially for my Rosacea.
Thank you for the hacks! I was bullied at school because my cheeks are always red and everyone thought I wore a makeup. Now I'm an adult and people think I'm sick because my cheeks are flushed. Went to a dermatologist and she said I defintely got rosachea. The Cicapair green tint really helps.
I’m super pale with the first type of rosacea that you talked about (emotions show instantly, bright red when I exercise, etc). My skin is fairly reactive to many ingredients, so I look for very basic formulas that are soothing/calming with maybe one active ingredient. The Aveeno Calm and Restore serum and moisturizer are my buddies, along with sunscreen and a very low percentage retinol. Less is more for my skin, but the one thing that has made the biggest difference is sunscreen! Wish I’d had a good sunscreen as a teen 😅 it would have helped so much! Now I’m 36 and passing my skintellectualism on to my children 😊
@@ca6248 I have no idea about tretinoin, but the retinol that I use is just the L’Oreal Revitalift Night Serum with Pure Retinol. I started using it once a week, and slowly added it into my routine to every other night. I’m no expert, just a lady with a face 😅
I look for products with no fragrance, alcohol, few ingredients but high quality actives like niacimides, B12, azalealic acid, and soothing hydration like Aloe Vera, oat, squalane, chamomile, antioxidants like green tea. I prefer physical sunscreen with zinc. For a cleanser it has to be gentle and simple - I don’t think you need a lot of active ingredients in a cleanser - less is more. I almost exclusively use an Australian brand called Synergie Skin. It’s expensive but my skin barrier has improved so much and the founder understands Rosacea well.
I would love to see in office treatments as well! I look for “redness relief,” “calming,” and “redness correcting” claims. Thanks so much for this info. I just ordered the Green Machine & Hero sunscreen. Already love the Cicapair!
Thank you so much for making these great videos! You have helped me even out my skin tone, reduce my acene, and reduce redness through your educational videos. Through healthy skincare, you've given me my confidence back! Thank you!
DermalMD Rosacea Serum is the best thing I've ever used for my rosacea. It's cleared up my redness and inflammation, and my skin feels so much healthier.
Thank you! This was very helpful! Have rosacea treated successfully with ivermectin, and had wondered about the intersection with retinol. Fascinated by your products, and appreciate your mention of them. Finally - enthusiastic YES to in-office methods for treating this condition!
Centella asiatica helped my so much with rosecea! I do recommend to try the anti-redness concentrate from Avene, it does help as well, i do like to put some spring water from avene (or grape water from caudalie) after my skincare routine, this hack helps to keep my skin hydrated and fresh. Unfortunately, i didn’t like green cream by Dr jart, it’s too orange for my pale skin and a bit too oily. Do not forget to use some eye drops to refresh your eyes (because they also get red during the day)! Hope that helps!
Naturium also has a 10 percent azelaic acid in serum form which I have found is best for layering with other products and which never pills. Plus, at $20, it's cheaper than Paula's Choice. And I've heard the Peach Slices brand has a good azelaic acid product, but I've not tried that yet.
I have been using the 10% Azelaic Acid gel/serum from Peach Slices for several weeks and like it better than any Azelaic acid prep I have tried. It doesn't pill and spreads like a dream. I had previously tried preparations from The Ordinary (pills very badly!), Costa Baha, FaceTheory, and Naturium.
I’ve always flushed when I was younger, but now I’m in my 40s I have seen broken capillaries and some tiny pimples in my areas of rosacea. I have had a few laser sessions and they were amazing at removing the broken capillaries. Initially they also helped a little with the redness, but less so with subsequent treatments. I had never heard that not using retinol was a good idea (I’ll be removing that from my routine for a while). Azelaic acid gives me very obvious improvements and if I forget for a few days it’s very very noticeable. I have to be so careful and consistent with everything, and even then it’s still always something that’s there.
Do you think using glycolic acid may be a trigger for rosacea? I was diagnosed with mild rosacea two years ago when I started using glycolic acid to help combat my oiliness as I have combo sensitive skin. Someone else I know with mild rosacea said she experienced the same with her skin and avoids glycolic acid. Don’t know if there’s a correlation but would love for you to look into it and keep updating us rosacea girlies because there’s so many of us like you said and we deserve to also have nice skin!❤
@liviusss Yeah I got rid of my glycolic acid that same month I was diagnosed. I just ordered mandelic acid toner to see if I can tolerate it once a week because my skin really needs to exfoliate and I hate physical exfoliants. What PHA works for you?
I use the Neutrogena Ultra creamy fragrance free cleanser ... it doesn't irritate my skin at all, I love it :) I use mineral makeup that helps to soothe my skin and doesn't have ingredients that will irritate a sensitive skin. A green tinted concealer is abit difficult to blend , a yellow based mineral concealer is much easier for me to use and helps to conceal the redness. Take care everyone :)
@@acdcmiami The yellow concealer that I use is called - Sunlight. You can also order samples to try, they are free. You would have to pay for the postage
Thank you so much for making these videos. In Canada it is so hard to get in with a dermatologist to help with rosacea treatment. As Iong as I can remember, I have always suffered with rosacea on different levels and so I’ve always been mindful of my skin care. That said, I’ve always had to do my own research and never been able to have a certified dermatologist confirm if I’m on the right track or if I’m wasting my money on certain products or ingredients. It’s all be trial and error So I’m so happy to come across your videos with all this useful information. Thank you so much. ❤️
I’m always looking for creamy, hydrating products. I want something that feels like it’s nourishing my dry/rosacea skin. Thanks for the breakdown & recs!
Dr. Idriss, your skin always looks beautiful! Thank you for teaching and sharing so much great information about skincare. I have been using Major Fade Active Serum and Major Fade Active Seal Moisturizer for about 2 weeks now and see amazing results. I will absolutely try your recommended products to reduce the redness associated with my rosacea.
had to pause the video to write this. babes deal with your face!? Girl when you made your makeup comment I thought you were wearing a full face, you're so beautiful inside and out- I love your videos!! :3
I hope rosacea would stop being described and diagnosed as a Northern European skin disorder. It took years to get mine diagnosed because of my tan olive skin tone. I also wish insurance companies would cover treatments because mine denies coverage due to this being a "cosmetic" prescription.
Thank you, Dr. Shereene Idriss, for sharing these amazing hacks for instantly reducing redness and rosacea! I've been using DermalMD Rosacea Serum and it's been incredibly effective in reducing inflammation on my skin. It's great to see a dermatologist like you recommend a product specifically formulated for rosacea, and I appreciate the additional tips for reducing redness. Thank you again for the helpful video!
I've started using hydrocolloid bandages all over my cheeks, nose and chin. They are helping sooo much. It helped the little micro abrasions heal up, which is making it easier for the skin barrier to repair. I didn't realize until using them how many little cuts and abrasions were in my skin.
I have rosacea and keep in down with lasers. I use tretinoin every day and have been using it for 6 years without any complication but I started very very slowly. I think it has helped my rosacea a lot so all these warnings about NOT using tretinoin; I say we are all different and you should try it if you want and see what it does for you.
I was diagnosed with rosacea last year at the age of 41. I was given Rhofade and nicotinamide supplements. I never used the Rhofade, as I was afraid of rebound flushing, and the supplements were discontinued. I currently use vanicream cleanser, prosacea sulfur gel, the inkey list azelaic acid serum, the aveeno calm and restore line, and Rosacare moisturizer. I’m always looking for affordable skincare that says redness reducing. I’ve cut my redness is half but I’d like to see even greater improvement. I think in office laser treatment may be my next step. I’d love a video on which lasers are best. Btw, you are seriously glowing and don’t need makeup at all. So pretty!
YES, more about in-office treatments, please 💜💜💜 I would be so interested in what lasers you recommend for treating rosacea - IPL, BBL or something else? How many treatments are recommended? What's the upkeep? Also, maybe you can talk a bit about rosacea and at home devices like LED masks etc. THANK YOU so much for making these fantastic videos 🙌🏻
No makeup? You look 👌🏻 Claims? I always look for fragrance free 🤓 In office rundown? Yes please!! I would also love to see a deep dive on how to know whether or not you truly have rosacea… I was diagnosed with it virtually, but I am not 💯 sure 🤔
I dont lool for claims anymore but i know by trial and error that rosewater, salycilic acid, peptides and khiels ultra cream are ok. No vitamin C, no hyaluronic acid, no fermented skincare and absolutely no product after expiration date. Just bought the Azaleic acid so I am excited to try it 🥰 Thinking of granactive retinoid. thank you for the video, Dr Idriss, awesome overview as always ❤
i love centella and green tea in products. helps calm my rosacea down even if it’s just for a bit. thanks for this informative video! i’ve been really insecure about the redness. 🥰
Im using the 15% and honestly it saved my skin! The only thing that bugs me a bit is that it seems to be to strong for the thin skin under and around my nose. I keep getting dry flaky irritated patches there and using a thic cream like the cicaplast balm seems to make it even worse sometimes. Have you expirienced sth similar or have any tips on how to prevent this?
I'm using azelaic acid 20% gel for last 3 days... So starting days were really irritating and got me much burning and tingling sensation., i think it's because of the higher potency.....but now it doesn't burn that much....just becomes red after the application... And talking about the dry flakes ....then yes...I too get it....I think it makes the skin sort of dry...and that's why we witness the flakes.... And I want your reply to my comment so i can talk more to u
I look for claims about calming and soothing skin, and recently I've been looking into products with a bit of a green tint. My derm told me I have keratosis pilaris on my cheeks rather than rosacea, but I still gravitate toward products that people with rocasea like because I have the same issue with facial redness and flushing. I'm aiming to eventually get laser treatment on my cheeks, but I'm trying to refine my skincare routine until then. I like the calming feeling of a lot of products geared toward facial redness anyway.
Thank you! I was diagnosed by my dermatologist for not only rosacea but also acne and i've been using isotretinoin (i'm just coming down from the dosage and i'll finish it in maybe 2 months). I still have some redness left and your tips will definitely help since it's getting hotter this days
I have the same background as you! My flushing was actually worse on accutane, almost like it was quicker to flush. But damn my skin looked so good I didn’t even care if I flushed! Considering going back on it as acne has returned.
Hi! I am 2 weeks in as a rosacea sufferer as well - since there is not a lot of info out there have you seen a definite improvement? and also, if you are sensitive to certain foods (nightshades or dairy or something) are you able to eat them now? since the cuase of our condition is unknown i wonder if isotretinoin will help us as well as it does with acne patients, even if you sometimes need 2 courses. :(
Answer to another gal: I thought that as well, but I have the very rare Collagenese Colitis, turning into Ulceritis, and I started using Cereve and repaired my skin barrier. it took a year. but I haven't had it back since ( much) and now I have had a Cecal colon twist and almost died, along with several bowel blockages. While at the hospital I just used my CereVe and never had a problem. I think it is the skin barrier issue because no one knew when we first started using Retin~A, to keep the skin barrier in tact. I have pictures and pages of my diary, if anyone has questions. I, also, believe HA is fine in the CereVe. it's a good line. I'm on SSI and have a 40$$ budget, so, I can't just throw away HA things.
Just a heads up for anyone who is perimenopausal and may begin using progesterone. About 15 years ago I learned I was estrogen dominant after having an endometrial polyp removed. My gyne prescribed progesterone supplementation half the month and monitored me. My rosacea immediately developed into papulopustular rosacea, which I had never had before. When I showed my Derm, she said I was the third or fourth patient who started progesterone whose rosacea developed into yucky papules.
I look for products that are fragrance free, no nonsense. I watch a lot of videos to try to educate myself but it's hard to remember everything so I find Cerave, Cetaphil, Vanicream, Eucerin products work well with me.
I personally would love to hear more about in office treatments. I have had a few rounds of IPL for redness and I'm currently on Rhofade prescription cream, but I'm really not noticing significant improvement. 😫
Hi Dr. Idriss, thank you so much, this is exactly the video I needed to understand a bit better my skin redness. Can we have an almost permanently red skin without it being "rosacea"? I actually have an oily skin without acne or pustules. My derm tried to convince me to do a laser treatment for facial redness but I am very afraid of it. She already performed a first laser for hyperpigmentation but I am Asian with a relatively darker skin than average caucasian and the healing is taking longer than what she told me and after 3 weeks the parts treated are still darker than pre-treatment so I am not keen in doing another laser while not being sure of the possible adverse consequences. I guess I will wait for your video on laser solutions before making my mind! 😂 Thank you for your dedication in educating us and please enable international shipping on your products ❤
Gentle cleansers and mineral SPFs all the way! I find Skinceuticals mineral radiance SPF50 great as it has such a light texture and is slightly tinted so helps cover the redness. One of the best things I did to heal my skin was to stop using occlusive or heavy moisturisers & oils - it means I struggle with hydration sometimes & gaining that healthy bounce to my skin so I'd love to hear more about injectables, such as profilo, to ascertain if they'd help address this. If anyone else struggles with moisturisers I have found Dermalogica Ultra Calming Calm Water Gel to be great! Also in terms of exfoliation (as long as I have no flair up) REN does a lactic acid based AHA tonic which is also pretty well tolerated once a week 😊
Thanks Shreene!! I'm using metronidazole cream and it's helping. What about at home lazers? Also, what about oats? Been using the Aveeno oat cleaner for a year and it's always felt calming.
Yess! I don’t know if you have already made a video from the clinic about treatments but I’m definitely interested! Rosacea is such an annoying skin condition to have. Hyaluronic acid is the worst for my skin although it’s supposed to be suitable for sensitive skin. Can’t do acids. Retinol works if I sandwich it. I love fragrances as well but they don’t work for my skin at all either. I’ve been on antibiotics but it didn’t work that well. Before that I had a prescription azelaic acid crème but it didn’t really do the trick either but there was never any talk about combining the two. I’ll talk to my doctor about that.

New Subscriber here. So, I'm a bit of a different case, lol. diagnosed with Rosacea over 25 yrs ago, I am someone who was very allergic to Minocycline. Hives everywhere, needed to go to ER for EPI pin. Prescription Tretinoin is the only thing that helped, lucky for me anti-aging wise because it wasn't really popular for that purpose then, at least not in Canada. Now in my 69, because of Tretinoin and sunscreen, I have pretty good skin for someone with Rosacea and my age. I did have aa problem a couple of years ago because I became allergic to Fragrance mix N-235. (tested positive) Now I have a really hard time findind good skincare I can use. I appreciate you addressing this concern, I want to add Vitamin C and antioxidants, but never know what to try. Thank You.
I won’t refer to what claims I am looking but to what type of care I am looking for my skin, and this is anti-aging. I see that most doctors focus on how to control rosacea and that’s indeed important but what if someone has it already under control and wants to do other things like mild exfoliation (for any skincare to penetrate better) and anti aging? I feel there is no information/ guidance out there and everyone says avoid retinol full stop. I would love to hear how we can approach different needs of our skincare that are rosacea friendly, thanks!

For real?? My sis had rosacea super bad & also had to get her galbladder removed (+ liver cerrosis)
I got rosacea after I had a tooth pulled and an implant put in. I might be allergic to the metal in it.
I had a consultation with à naturopath and wow. I saw result.. go girls, à still use products for my skin but alimentation help à lot!!!

Thank you for this video. I'm commenting with some of my triggers to potentially help anyone else with rosacea that finds this video in the future, because often the triggers are not obvious and differentiate from person to person.
-Using a heavier moisturizer or using too many layers of skincare and sometimes "slugging"
- Using too much niacinamide (niacinamide is already in pretty much every skincare product nowadays, so it is very easy to overdo it)
-Chocolate T^T
-Energy drinks
-Any kind of chemical exfoliant (aha, bha, pha) no matter how "gentle"
-Seasons changing
-Any skincare with peppermint in the ingredients. ( Also, I'm also trying to figure out if burning peppermint essential oils might cause a flare up.)
-Working out or doing physical activities
- Using a gua sha might also cause redness for the rest of the day (not 100% sure on that one yet)
Some things that I find help
- Ingredients such as aloe, licorice root, green tea, centella, and using a tiny bit of rose hip seed oil
- A cooling face ice pack ( but be careful because this might do the opposite in some people ((also never use ice directly on the skin)) -Using a cold can of soda or water from the fridge and rolling it along the face.
- Tumeric sheet masks
- Hydrating
- Everything she said in this video
This video was very helpful and everyone's comments were very helpful too! I am still trying to figure out all of my triggers, and I hope that this helps. ^•^
Ohk but why ingredients like centella, green tea, licorice, aloe and rosehip 😭 thanks for sharing thou !
Acids really help me, like the stronger the better. My fave is sensitive to everything else from fragrance to oats but after a peel my face stops hurting for a day or two.
why is everything off limits 💀
It’s definitely a journey but I promise if you’re suffering from rosacea and you improve your diet, stress management, understand your skins emotions like Dr Idriss explains and see a good dermatologist you’ll get it under control too ❤
How did your skin react to tretinoin?
Thank you so much for your comment…I’ve recently included Centeal and it’s breaking me out 😮🤦🏼♀️ also I use fermented products and this helped me to rethink about my routine ❤
I'd love to hear about laser treatments that work on Rosacea!
Thank you. I’m 60 years and I just got diagnosed with rosacea. It started last summer, but I remember my Mother telling me that I’m “allergic to the sun and heat.”
So, here I am now, living in Texas, lol. Your videos are always so helpful.
Texas, Arizona and Nevada would be miserable to live in with an inflammatory skin disease, I know! Arizona gets to 120F in summer and VERY dry!

What laser do you get and the results don’t last?
I believe I have the 1st type of roceaca you mentioned. When I take a shower and do my skin care I'm flared up red and HEAT the heat makes me so red!

hi i had ezcema around eye skin area where it was puffed up bright red and as that settled it was very dry itchy flakey and then after a week of eumovate ointment the doctor prescribed it settled down and wasn't itchy anymore and skin was smooth but there was a slight shade of redness, like a discolouration look that i can't seem to get to fade. i was hearing a cream with vitamin k would work as it's said it can fade bruises or reduce appearance of scars apparently but wether it's safe enough for around the the eye area. see other places on the body healed up and went back to normal skin colour ok but it left me with a graining leathery look where the ezcema patches were but the eye skin area redness seems to be hard to fade for me.

It's a good call out, but just FYI the salicylic acid is only 0.5% in that product.

Thank you for including over the counter and prescription information here! In office options as a progression would be very helpful!
Please tell me what oil do you use to dilute the essential oils?
@@J.Bloom7 Thank you!

Which one??? The sunscreen?
May I ask what retinol you use? Do you know if we can use tretinoin?
@@m4yUm3 so far yes just the sunscreen, my oldest is 13 so they don’t need anything more at the moment (no acne yet lol).
@@ca6248 I have no idea about tretinoin, but the retinol that I use is just the L’Oreal Revitalift Night Serum with Pure Retinol. I started using it once a week, and slowly added it into my routine to every other night. I’m no expert, just a lady with a face 😅
You’re lucky. Most sunscreens irritate my rosacea.

Thank you! This was very helpful! Have rosacea treated successfully with ivermectin, and had wondered about the intersection with retinol. Fascinated by your products, and appreciate your mention of them. Finally - enthusiastic YES to in-office methods for treating this condition!
Hi, how did you use Ivermectin to cure your rosecea?
Yes!!! Thank you for this! If the wind even blows the wrong way, my face is turning red. 😭😭
As a rosacea sufferer I would not use glycolic acid on the concerned areas... Maybe some PHAs which are more gentle.

Yes for a rosacea in office procedure video!
It's not like you're asking for breast implants!
Yay I look forward to these uploads every weekend!
I've started using hydrocolloid bandages all over my cheeks, nose and chin. They are helping sooo much. It helped the little micro abrasions heal up, which is making it easier for the skin barrier to repair. I didn't realize until using them how many little cuts and abrasions were in my skin.
I am just now realizing that I may have rosacea. Going to switch directions on my skincare and hold off on the adapalene. Thank you Dr. Idriss!!
Can you make a video talking about your Lasik eye procedure? I know it's not skin related but I've been curious about the process. Thanks!
We also need to think about the poisoned food, air, water and the clothes we wear
You still look really pretty and natural ❤ thank you for all your amazing tips!!! 🥰
There’s vbeam, too! I would love to know a full analysis of each. Like best bang for your buck depending on your type of rosacea.
she already has an LED video
You are glowing in this video!
You are still so beautiful even after LASIK and without makeup!
anyway you look amazing even without makeup ❤
Yes, centella asiatica was a game changer for treating my rosacea!
Skinoren 20% azelaic acid is amazing, it doesn't smell of anything bad, is fragrance free, doesn't pill, goes on smoothly and evenly.
Interesting! Hormones relate to so much.
Yep. Looking forward to hearing your insights about why the skin freaks out with rosacea around the period (before and during it). Cheers 😊
YES to in-office treatments!!! I’m at the point where I feel like I do a lot but need some professional help
I look for products that are fragrance free, no nonsense. I watch a lot of videos to try to educate myself but it's hard to remember everything so I find Cerave, Cetaphil, Vanicream, Eucerin products work well with me.
You look very natural and I don’t see any redness!! Great video! Would love to see/watch sunscreens for rosacea, you mentioned physical are better.
Im so happy to hear you mention Paula’s Choice. I have a few of their products and I REALLY like them!
Yes please! More info is always welcome! Thanks for this information 😊
I'd love to hear about office procedures for rosacea!
When Peri-menopause kicked in that's when redness/rosacea happened for me face is burning 🥵
Also in terms of exfoliation (as long as I have no flair up) REN does a lactic acid based AHA tonic which is also pretty well tolerated once a week 😊
hello, yes for me is the same think - no heavy moisturisers.. I have tried profilo 3 times and it really helps with moisturizing rosacea skin
I just love your looks right now. You are rocking those glasses with two mini side buns.
Thanks Shreene!! I'm using metronidazole cream and it's helping. What about at home lazers? Also, what about oats? Been using the Aveeno oat cleaner for a year and it's always felt calming.
You look lovely in a natural state 😊
Benton goodbye redness mask is amazing. So good at calming my skin down. I use it every time I’m flaring up or after long flights.👌
I was thinking of buying them. Where do you get yours from?
You look pretty Dr. Shereene! Blessed Saturday ❤
You look flawless btw, your videos are so well thought out too
Genuinely interested about treatment for rosacea
Dr Idriss please make videos on gut health, steroid cream withdrawal, food allergies, and detox!
I’m a Beauty Therapist so I know how to take care of myself and my family!❤❤
Your followers would benefit from those videos! ❤❤
Yes please, I would love to know about in office treatments for rosacea.
Just what I needed!! Thank you.
