    That head light just reminded me that I have one and haven't been using it.

    That engine being a Honda clone, I am impressed that the engineers used a valve cover gasket vs. gasket sealer. I have dreaded adjusting valves on Honda engines in the past because I end up spending 15 minutes doing the adjusting and an hour tediously scraping the old sealer from surfaces. Thus, I have been cutting my own gaskets from basic Felpro 3157 gasket material & so far, no leaks. I made a cardboard template so I can outline the correct shape on the gasket material quickly & usually cut out several at a time. A cheap set of hole punches from Harbor Freight includes the perfect-sized punch for the screw mounting holes.

    Perfect diagnosis process to find the valve problem. Great job. Thanks for the video and the tips.

      I got lead down a different path, originally I thought is was a coil / low spark issue. Thanks

    Good fix man, a lot of people don't think to check the valve lash. I bought a honda shelf propelled mower and someone gave me an almost new pressure washer and all I had to do was just the valves.

    Good trouble shooting - valve gap - adjustment is typically overlooked by rookies like me. I was surprised to hear about the past experiences with some of the NGK plugs - I've always found them to be the most reliable - especially in the Stihl 2 cycle equipment. Thanks for the video.

      It is very rare, but I have seen low spark and no spark with them.

      No I did not check it, I am going to run it for about 1/2 an hour see how it does then I will take a reading.

      Thank you, those are good tips. I usually just add to the old rtv if it comes off smooth. I use the Right Stuff. It is not the best way to do it but it is fast and cost effective.

    I just did a head gasket on one of these engines on a craftsman single stage snow blower.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  2 роки тому

      I have only done one head gasket on these engines. In fact, the issue was a bent valve, not the gasket but I replaced both.

    Nice video Bob we have had a few engines come in with valve clearances too small but these were older engines where believe the valves had beaten in for the clearance to get smaller than the original factory setting. This unit appears too new for that to happen what do you think? The OLD MAN at EP over and out!

    • @doublewide6

      It was a landscapers, so it has many hours also the Chinese steel is not a hard as US steel. I don't think the adjustment slipped because those things were as tight as they get. I will send an email about stickers. Bob

    Those chonda engines could be good sometimes and bad this one was bad needed some work to get it going again usually those ngk plugs are really good but maybe a bad batch of them made at that time

  • @lavendersneppo

    With 70 psi compression at the start as it was, you definitely should have the engine at least puffing or trying to start a little. The original spark plug was probably just flooded.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  2 роки тому

      That is a good tip that I overlooked. I was playing with it for about five minutes the night before and thought it was a low spark issue because the spark was yellow. When I changed the plug it looked better. I hear the magnet on the flywheel is known to go bad, too.

    • @lavendersneppo

      @@doublewide6 I always use a proper spark plug tester with an enlarged gap for testing if spark strength. Spark color is very subjective and difficult to observe right. When I do have weak spark, it will often only intermittently jump the spark tester as I turn it over.

    I bought a new snow blower China model the darn thing took for ever to start it has electric start.. This fall i messed with it because it would take five minutes to start I changed the plug to a decent plug now it starts with the pull rope.. those torch plugs are junk even if you are getting spark from one they are junk for some reason they don't work well.. my opinion only

    I usually just shoot a bit of carb cleaner in the spark plug hole once I have spark. Idle circuits are common causes of no start. Of course there's always Carl Childers to think about
