Out of my wheel house, except for the Alligator alu outer cable housing, that I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on. Is it really worth the near 3x premium over good regular outer housing?
At about a minute in, your very clear explanation of the differences made it clear why you'd want the front rim/rear disk set up. I'll watch the rest of the video to see if I'm right but I feel like it would be a lot easier for me in pretty much all cases to have the front wheel lock with minimum flex and deal with some butt end movement than the opposite.
the front end stalls and hops are more difficult with less spring, but from watching the test it looks like the added precision and stability is mostly negligible in the outcome. Thanks for the video!
Loved this build Ali! Reminded me of the Ozonys I got off Stan. I had the vee rear, avid mechanical disc set up, but I would have loved to try the rear disc setup. This one looks dialled with the Hayes Dominion 👌
Very interesting brake setup, I hope you'll like it! I've been using very similar setup on my Gu 24" comp trials bike (HS-33 front/Hope trial zone rear) for two years, and really enjoy it. Spoke flex on the back wheel isn't much of an issue and doesn't affect riding, but advantages of the disc brake make the riding more smooth and just funnier.
I build bikes myself as well and everytime, I use second hand parts. I find it very satisfying. But sadly the only thing witch I can't do is building wheels from scratch. Big fan love you're work. Keep it up
You could remove the bolt and top-cap once you've tightened the stem if you want to save weight. I'm not sure if there are rules about running a top-cap, I wouldn't say it's as dangerous as not running handlebar plugs. Edit: Not a cheap option but XTR 2-pot calipers (M9100) would save save more out-board weight. I don't think they'd be compatible with your levers though as they take a different hose (BH90) to most brakes. If you want more braking performance you could go 4-pot or look at a 220mm rotor, that won't be saving you any weight though and the large rotor might void your warranty (if that matters), it won't help with clearance either.
I've never had any luck with my headsets staying tight whenever I remove the top cap...I think it'd be fine for gentle riding but with how much leverage goes through the fork and stem on a trials bike I think a top cap is always needed. As for brakes, the XTR wouldn't work with this lever mainly because of the different fluid types, it would be easy enough to get the hose to work though I think. a larger rotor would certainly give more power but you're right it would be heavier, my main concern would be making it even easier to bend though. As for 4-pot vs 2-pot...4-pot doesn't always mean more power, in fact 2-pot can be equally as powerful and have more initial bite than a 4-pot (why the Hope trials brake is a 2-pot brake). I specifically chose this brake over a 4-pot (which I also have as an option) for this extra bite.
great build but my favourite part is the roof of forks mainly because i see a set of bos deville forks and i run a set of bos deville 170 on my ns surge evo and run really well

Great video of another bike build, I love your patio well trials course section how handy 😁 As a thought for your pedals what about using a nylon brush attachment on a drill to polish off the paint?

Loving the videos Ali. Nice build and mix of parts. Really like the concept of reversing what 20” Comps are using and trying across 26”. Trend setter I can see it now. Hahah
Those pedals could use a few coats of brown to match the frame. A bit of Bondo and paint on the fork as well wouldn't hurt. The naughty boy in me would love to see you put a suspension fork on the front. Just to put a stick in the spokes of the purists.
I am still curious on that tapered fork on pure trials bike. was the head tube size 42 - 42 mm or something else? if it is, which headset cup you used? cheers

@@orestisvas7277 no problem, to give some detail I usually use a bottle of clean water on the pads and rotor and ride around pulsing the brake(s). Out of my wheel house, except for the Alligator alu outer cable housing, that I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on. Is it really worth the near 3x premium over good regular outer housing?
so far it feels pretty sweet!
At least the Nokon cable housings were not really worth it in my experience. Their only advantage is that they allow very tight bending radii.
Just started working in a shop this week and I’m super stoked! Much thanks to your inspiration over the years!
