- The Cute Thief got me this frame nearly a year ago and it's been something I've had planned but never got around to do. Welll the time has come, lots of treats eaten and now it's finished, I bet you weren't expecting this!
What do you think?
Thanks for watching and see you next week, I hope you have a good one!

I’m getting a lot of comments asking about the bb adaptor, here is a link to the one I used 👍🏻
www.unleadedbmx.com/en/mid-euro-bottom-bracket-converter-7393.html
What is the name of the chainring? I need one.
Bro can I please ask why you call shims shems no one who I've ever met has ever said that. It sounded so stupid and you said it was such confidence multiple times. It was quite comical
Heads up you mightve been able to make a mid 24mm bottom bracket work.
@@Orion_5764 Because you can't assume their gender bro
Ive been riding bmx for over 15 years and that my friend is one of the best looking bmxs i have ever seen!!!
As a big fan of strange bmx'y creations, including the oldschool Flatland ones. This is sick af. :D
Agreed! Remember to wear an nta helmet like xnito or bern with your bmx, most helmets don't protect you as they should
@@Cesar-cm4if I just use my MTB or roadie helmet when I flatland, and accept that I look like a durk
You should see a build someone I know has.
Norco 250 first mrb free coaster on the planet. King front hub. Old 4x Marzocchi fork. Odyssey gyro kit to bb7 short pull calipers. Custom axle in the front. 4 custom pegs.
Flatland mtb.
The result looks surprisingly good. It's a Hi tech bmx with a disc brake and indestructible rims. Nice work!
Nah. G-Sport Ribcages are indestructible rims.
“Odyssey hazard lites” are the best rims, I’ve had mine for 10 years, and they will go out of true and always come right back with some lovin
@@davidbreitwieser3591 and the Hubs Odyssey usually pair with them are second only to Profile.
The Eclat carbonic is the best carbon bmx specific rim but the ribcage is practically indestructible and there not made anymore but the alex tripple walls were incredibly strong but very heavy
@@andrewince8824 those, hazard lites. And theres another one from eclat.. i forget
Edit: i dhoulda read the replies. Its all here already😂❤️
As a BMX rider who was an ex trials rider it's so pleasant to watch for me. Never seen something like this before. Hope you'll shred on it a lot :) Can be quite a good new experience
Once again, another banging video. Seriously, you must be the coolest guy on YT. Awesome bike rider and superb mechanic all rolled into one. Would love the opportunity to ride with you one day, although my beginner status would require much work to not be too embarrassed. Keep up the great work 💪🤘👍🏻
this is the build i have searching for! ty
One step closer to a mod! The curiosity will surely get the best of you after this build haha
Made me want to build a BMX myself. I've ridden BMX as a teenager but never done a proper build
I LOVE the scissor trick for hollow shimano pre-load adjusters! learned that one at home when I didn't have the right tool. Works a charm
Haha wasn’t sure if anyone would notice that but yeah, they work really well don’t they!
🧐
Wow another great build! I love the brake and drivetrain, the guys at Tarty sure know there modifications. Nice riding too, already doing fancy 180 half cabs after a few moments! That saddle I'm afraid isn't ringing a bell, I do love a good memory challenge
As someone who frequently mashes bmx and mountain bike together, currently a bmx with 27.5 ROCKSHOX forks, front disc, rear v brake, and bmx handlebars, with 20 inch wheels, 20x3 tires, I call mine MTBMX!
This is the first and probably only video with "disk breaks" on a BMX, thank you so much, i have been wanting to that for so long now :)
Gotta say I love everything about your videos. You’ve been doing such a great job and damn I can only dream of building my bikes with some of your uniqueness and flair some day!
The UA-cam algorithm gets it right once in a while & this happens to be one of those times, that bike is sweet & the hubs were choice 👍
I absolutely love this build, narration and candour. 10/10. Would definitely buy this bike.
As a bmxer, i'd say it looks great. i dont know of anyone using tubeless for street or park stuff, but disk brakes, carbon rims and alloy cranks are popular in the bmx race world. i'm really curious to how disks would work for feathering during manuals etc as i haven't tried them on my bmx.
Handlebars with a 31.8mm clamping area have also been popular in bmx racing for some time.
Disk brakes are better all around ! In any situation !!
This looks mint, love how chunky the wheels look with the deep rims!
Would love to see some Winter BMX park sessions on the channel!
Nice Crossover, maybe a droppost would be a nice Addition, you know for when you are Just Roding around you can have the saddle in a more comfy Position, and with a pull or click it get's out of the way for Tricks.
Great Video Ali, I really liked the way this went together. Thanks for sharing.
I love your style in bikes, Ali!
As a seasoned mountainbiker who is very BMX curious I appreciate this video a lot. Thanks!
So we're a little bike curious, huh ?
I want to build a street bike for the next summer and your videos are amazing for getting more ideas for my build
1:00 I get that it's a joke, but just in case people don't know, the standards are there for cross-conpatibility. It comes from a rejection of corporate businesses that try to proprietorize parts.
Disc brakes aren't common, due to damage from grinding. A rim brake has a lot of play, and is out of the way when doing stalls or grinds.
As far as I know, half link chains, and probably a few other things that can be seen on other bicycle styles, were invented for bmx. And bmx takes from other styles as well, including the Fingers Crossed 20" bmx with full suspension.
Your finished bike is awesome!
Love your bike builds!
Definitely my new favourite build in your collection! Absolutely stoked on how it looks
Amazing seeing this. I've been riding MTB for 20 years but started BMX just last summer. As you say, it takes some getting used to as it's so twitchy. Enjoy!!!
This is really awesome. Can’t wait to see it ridden!
Every build is a masterpiece
Will be looking forward to the next one!
MBMX (my name for it). An epic small build! As a downhill and enduro rider, I would absolutely ride this! Now you just need to throw some 20" trail tires and a front brake on it and hit a downhill bike park😜👍 Keep doing what you do!
Another cool build Ali. And coincidentally again I am building the same kinds of bicycles as you are but I didn't plan it this way. You should see what I did to my shiny Cannondale killer V. Now I am building a vintage Haro BMX. I am building my 1st set of wheels and using your videos as a guide. I will let you know how that goes. I really like watching you build bicycles. I might even say I like watching you build bicycles more than I like to watch you ride them, but that isn't true. Congrats on the medal and podium, well done Sir.
Finally! You teased this a while ago.. looks great. Love the wheels and discs. And the MTB cranks. Painted fork would look nice. And the commentary is always hilarious! Have at it my violent friend!

Most 2000s BMX bikes had a 35t front sprocket and 16t rear sprocket. Microgearing wasn't introduced until late 2007.
My 2007 Haro Nyquist One (before I taco'd the rear wheel and sharktoothed the sprocket) had a 39t front and a 16t rear.
4:35 this has been the norm since 2000 i’ve been riding Bmx since 1985, and I’m 43 now still riding bmx and love it 👍🚲💨
This has me wanting to redo my S&M PBR I’ve had since I was in High School! Bang Up Job!
Premium products frame with disc is sweet...cranks look perfect with the wheels..
Looks great as a whole with the roughed up look.
But restored later would look great too. Then you can tear it back up again.
One of the most beautiful bmx build. I absolutely love that bare metal look.
just getting into the bike scene and your videos are amazing!
loving the crazy build and hoping one day with a bit of funds saved ill be able to build something similar to this!
amazing stuff keeping me learning
This is a lush build Ali! Would love to see what someone like Kris Kyle thinks of the disc brake, you never know it could be the future!
I love it! Excellent idea. Might grab those adapters so I can use my MTB cranks on my BMX if they snap!
When working with those metal leafs try to apply a thinner layer of the glue. And once that has dried, apply the metal with the paper still sticking to it. Press that paper on there and peel it off the leafs, which rather choose to stay with the glue. For remaining blank areas use whatever leaftovers(!) you have. I hope to see some colourless metal applications on your bike builds in the future!
After that attempt I experimented and pretty much came to the same conclusions…you can see I added a big sheet to the top tube. The awkward corners were still tedious though 😋
@@Ali_Clarkson I can imagin those awkward corners being quite challenging! But you got me hyped on trying out some metal leafs on one of my bikeframes in the future! I hope the finish (even with layers of clear lacquer ontop) kind of holds up to the classic BMX abuse!
I’m not gonna lie the first video I’ve seen on this channel, I was a bit confused with the piece of wood he uses to jam parts with, but when he started blowing the handles like a horn, I was like what even is happening.😂 Jokes aside, love the humor I love the video style keep it up 😁
That bike turned out so unique and would ride so well!
Cool to see the Zing handlebars. They’re a local pro here in South Australia’s signature bars. Liam Zingbergs. I met him when I was younger and he’s a absolute shredder. In 2016 when I had brain cancer he gifted me a set of bars. He’s a legend!
I built an S&M 24” ATF with disc brakes a few years back. Profile racing elite hub and some other nice parts. Then sold it 😫. I’ve wanted to do a 20” build and you may have just given me the nudge I needed! Great job
Great looking bike, love the build!
that's another awesome and unique build there Ali, love it!
It looks sensational.
I have 9" rise BMX bars on an old MTB with shimmed stem, I can hang a backpack off the cross bar which makes the bike super useful as transport.
Douglas Adams would be proud of the cute thiefs creation
this thing looks sweet! I love the bmx/mtb combo
My 2nd BMX bike was a Specialized Fuse 4. It may have been the first BMX bike Specialized has released. Back in 2006, I think. It had a few MTB components: Euro BB with MTB cranks, Aluminum frame, dual-cable rear brake, integrated bash guard on the sprocket. 10mm rear dropout, I believe. It was pretty trick and very light for the time. I ended up destroying the dropouts with pegs.
My friend put some suspension forks on a bmx, we had the same one so I donated my entire bike to him so we could take the best part's and put them on and it was so good, obviously we didn't take it off-roading but for riding around our little city doing wheelies/manuals and jumping off stuff it was almost perfect. You should 100% throw some supsension on and give it a little ride if you can
As a brakless bmxer (and also Enduro mtber) the bike looks preety nice. Either way, since you are using tubeless and carbon rims, maybe you want to use a pivotal seat system, it's more bmx like and it probably saves a bit of weight
Man, I’d love a disc brake on my bmx! Nice one, Ali.
That thing is freaking sick!!
Random Ali C x BMX related story, years ago I actually purchased a WTP Primate BMX from you via Trials Forum 😅
It was black with front and rear chrome rims, front and rear brakes with plasmatic style pads and a bashring style front sprocket.
Do you remember that bike? And did you ride it much or was it a brief dabble to maybe try and learn bar spins 😁
i didn't finish the video yet, but man, Oh man, i'm JEALOUS now.
Sickest bike build you've done :)
I loooove the wheels! Good job!
That. Is. Beaut! Can’t wait to see what you get up to on it! First ride, popping a sick manual like you’ve been riding it years 😂👌🏻
Thanks for the video the bike looks awesome 👌
Sick looking whip! Nice build.
This build is awesome!!!
It is amazing how you have neglected any research about any of the points of BMX you seem to have some very harsh criticisms about. There are now Freestyle grade BMX Carbon Fiber rims manufactured by Eclat, in fact they now offer a complete bike that feature carbon fiber rims as stock spec. The 3/8" (10mm) axle standard for front wheels has been predominant for a number of years, and has proven itself more than useful. I can see the oversight regarding disc brakes in the Freestyle world, but they are more than accepted in the race world and have been for a number of years. I would make a comment about how disc brake compatible cassette hubs have been available at the 110 spacing found on BMX frames, but the adjustments you made to the hope hub does seem to be more your style. I thank you for spending some time in the world of BMX, I hope you find more to love as you enrich yourself.
Dude it’s a video about my cat going out and finding parts, it’s not that serious and I was being hyperbole 😊. I love Bmx and was just poking a little fun at how militant some oldschool riders can be about not accepting change
I sometimes take my bmx with me to the trails and honestly it feels like so much fun to evade roots and such. Great fun stop looking for the biggest easiest rolling things
Nice movement on the rear dropouts. May some drops of the same locking compound would help the most slippery part of the shims on the steam clamp, leaving room for adjusts in the textured part.
Looks fantastic looking forward to some bmx videos
This is one of the coolest bike builds I've seen!
Bought a set of dominions because of your recommendations Ali. The bike is in the shop still but I'm pretty excited to give them a try. Should be a lot better than my bargain bin Shimano single pistons 😅. Always wanted to build a bike like this a little trials BMX hybrid.
Nice build and ready for street tricks and race
I like your bulids so much!🥳
those pedal kicks on the bmx looked so weird but impressive i love it!
ima go ride (and try to learn 180) i will definetly watch some more videos by you!
much love!!
Exiting stuff. Looking forward to the ride video.
It is so good to see you riding a bmx bike.. love the build but you should get a longer stem
Good job Ali!
Absolutely class build. Looks amazing 👏 pump track at cathkin in coming 👌
I think it’s looks great . Interested to see the fun you have on it 👍
Thats a siiiick build man!
Awesome Creation!!!!
Sick build!!!!
I honestly didn’t think I would like this build but it’s really awesome as a BMX rider there’s a couple things I would change first being the pedals my shins are crying just thinking about those but I really love this build
you just posted this vid as soon as i ordered parts for my bmx with disc brake build lmao
Sweet build, manual, and crack when you first ride!
Looks amazing
Love the build man!
I ride BMX and also buyed some months ago a Banshee Scratch, and i feel really identified with some of the struggles you had right here, because the Scratch frame uses mainly MTB parts except for the cranks, and i have a lot of nightmares to make it work, so you may have "inspired" some fixes hahaha.
I like the bike! Those wheels look so tiny with the large sidewall on those carbon rims. The 160mm rotor also looks comically large. (no cats were harmed in the making of this video)
That was a sweet build. I had to do the drop out mod on my DJ as well.
Very interesting as a bmx RACER, where disc brakes, carbon rims, tapered forks, 31,8mm bars and slowly even tubeless tires are or become standard. Maybe look into it, if you like riding pumptracks
The entire reason I’ve been brakeless on my bmx for a decade is because once I got into mtb and felt the power of a hydraulic disc brake, the brake on my bmx just wasn’t gonna cut it no matter how well set up it was. I’d love to run a disc brake on it. I’ve seen a few people experiment with that now and I understand that Profile Racing now make a disc hub that uses the non drive side cone as a disc mount but jeez it’s expensive just to be able to run a decent brake! May have to fire up the mig welder and weld a mount on like this frame in the video has and get one of those Hope hubs instead
personally i feel like there were somethings you could of used to not have to make it harder on yourself. first being the stem, bsd, cult, and a few other companies make stems that are meant for the 1" clamp system, shims on bars in bmx is not the best idea because of the rigidity and how much tension is put on the bars so unfortunately they are way more prone to slip just pumping around. second the BB, I'm not sure the size of the spindle on the cranks but there are tons of options for BB's and various sizes like 19mm, 22mm, and 24mm so that would of eased up the process a little more. all in all cool video and interesting to see the premium frame being adapted for discs
My cats are always startled by blowing bar horns!
this looks badass!
this is really awsome dude
I allways wished there was a bmx with disc brakes back in my days. 😅
Looks lovely!
Thank you :)
Fun build!
Now all you would need to do is replace the front freehub with another ratcheting hub, in reverse, with all 4 pawls ground down a smidge, for a truly monster sound (Doubt doubling springs needed, but hey-ho).
Sweet bike. Very nice hybrid indeed.
This is amazing! I kind of lost my love for BMX because of those crappy brakes. The feeling and consistency of disc brakes are unmatched against the u-brake standard in BMX. I would love to have such kind of a frame though. Good Job there !
Nice build. Reminds me of the Sunn Bmix as a half way type bike.
Amazing build......Ride Safe!!!!
love this bike!
