This video absolutely epitomizes the sentiment of the song. Just going out, and spending time with the people you love, while being ignorant to the fact that it’s a moment that cannot be recreated. It’s when you’re in the moment and you know a fond memory is being had. Timeless.
This song makes me feel so melancholic because I used to hear it a lot with my friends back in highschool, skipping classes, going to parties, doing drugs... you know. Now I´m 31 and have a formal job and many of my friends live far away, and eventhough I enjoy life in a different way (a better way actually) I know those highschool year will never come back. A couple years ago we all went to a festival and the strokes played that night... I cried with this song and have the time of my life. Thank you Strokes for the great memories.

Naw, they were elite rich kids that met at a $50,000 a year prep school. They were critical darlings because they were from NYC and wore the right designer clothes. Yet they scoffed at middle class kids that came from the suburbs. The Strokes made some really good songs. But I never cared for their super compressed sound. The drums sound like soup cans, and the guitar sounds like its coming from telephone speaker.
"In many ways, they'll miss the good old days, someday" is a great, great line from one of the best examples of the last generation of bands representing a time when most of social life was face-to-face, not phone-to-phone
Most of social life is still face-to-face 💀 Just because social media makes it easier and more convenient to stay in touch with people doesnt mean that people dont make meaningful friendships at school or even work
the happiest i ever felt was when i first heard Someday, and i thought how fun would it be to make memories like they do in this video. & then i realized, i dont have that kind of friendship with anyone...
My father used to have this as his ringphone theme. Since he died in 2009 I can't stop thinking about him when I listen to this masterpiece. Love you Pierluigi
this song is so uplifting... i can't quite describe it. it is so self affirmed and sweet without any sense of dour cringe inducing lyrics. its really a beautiful tune!
The track talks about the idea that one day things will get better. The lyrics reflect the singer's search for comfort and assurance in the hard times, knowing that the present is only temporary and that someday, the difficult situation will pass. The singer expresses his fears and insecurities, but he also has hope that even in the toughest of times, he can continue to strive to grow and make things better. He ultimately finds hope in being able to take control of his own future and not waste time worrying or being overwhelmed.
It's a thousand times the opposite. It's about the idea of how those little silly stupid moments when you hang out with the people you don't realize you care about will eventually end, while meaningless now.. someday they'll be a beautiful memory.
These guys were drinking and smoking with Slash and Guided by Voices and they had just released their first album. They were the shit at that moment! And they just kept getting better. Best rock band of this century.
I always wonder if they're actual friends of Slash or acquaintance prior to the video or if they just accidentally stumbled upon him on some random bar
They were just a bunch of trust fund-rich boys from New York. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they had every imaginable advantage known to man. They all had tie-ins to the industry and incredibly wealthy parents.
@@fuchsiaswing8545 true, but they also wrote amazing music. If they weren't talented, they wouldn't still be relevant nearly two decades later. There have been plenty of trust-fund industry insiders that never went anywhere. The Strokes would have made it either way, it might have just taken them longer without the connections

Somewhere else on the net the puzzle over whether he sings Maya or my ex came to my attention, so I came here to listen for myself. I realised that I can't make out very many of the words at all, and that it doesn't matter because when I think of this song, I just sing the guitar line… and not even the guitar line to this song. (It's from Selfish Ways by Dogs) Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I ‘m a new fan and while it’s kind of sad I missed out on them when they first came up, it’s also really wild that I have no memories associated with them whatsoever. It’s like having a clean slate inside your brain to appreciate them as brand new.
Yeah I became a big fan about 6 years ago and it was kinda nice to appreciate their amazing music without nostalgia clouding my judgement of their songs and thinking they’re good when they’re really not that good
My personal favorite Strokes song. When I think of songs that give me instant nostalgia, from the very first time I listened, two songs stand far above the rest. Those songs are Someday-The Strokes and 1979-The Smashing Pumpkins.
It's really funny how a song can elicit so much emotion like nostalgia and many many more, I always get this weird feeling in my chest but I know Its because of the people I've met and shared experiences with over the years. I'll never forget them and will always strive to make more with the people I love.
My baby girl’s turning 18 this month and graduates high school next spring. She just chose this song for her senior quote. “See, alone we stand, Together we fall apart. Yeah I think I’ll be alright.” Doesn’t get any sweeter than this 😭😭
this was my favourite song when i was 13 and i listened to it obsessively. one day i was reading the lyrics and saw the “maya says i’m lacking in depth” line and lost my shit cuz my name is maya. now whenever i show someone this song i scream that line at the top of my lungs lol
My favorite local radio station was taking song requests while I was bored in the car and someone asked for this song. Made my entire day. Thank you, stranger.
What’s different about this genre of song is that it explains real feeling. Both in and out of the melody it brings back memories to ones that need them. A toast to the next year for forever!
I am 24 years old and I recently have discovered The Strokes and I can not stop listening to this song in particular. It just reminds me of the fun times I have with the guys on the weekend while we drink, smoke cigarettes and get high. We just have a goofy and wild time. It's sad that this will all end once we get older and some of us start to get married and have kids and all that. I guess I will just enjoy these fun times while they last :)
Something kids listening to this in 2020 need to realize to really understand the impact of The Strokes is that this was absolutely NOT the kind of music and style of that time (early 2000s). Before The Strokes mainstream rock was pretty much dead. They somehow rescucitated rock and roll and made it super trendy again.
Arctic monkeys dude. I know where you’re coming from but there was a couple other outstanding bands at the time. Kings of Leon too. Such good music out that time. Blink 182! Sum 41. Fall out boy. God I miss the early naughtiest. Greenday. My chemical romance. What a band. What a great time for music.
My God, this was the summer of 2001 anthem for people that just wanted to hang out, go to shows and chill. For me, at 13 years old when this song/album came out, it was life defining in NYC.
This video is something else. Besides being a beautiful song, it evokes this feeling in you that reminds you of some time in your life that you miss and will never forget. And even if it is an amazing memory or feeling, it's rather sad in the aspect that you'll never be able to relive it. Friends come and go, people you once knew in general come and go, even if it was just someone you said hey to through your old high school hallways or whatever. And it's those little details in your life that you'll never forget because things change but aren't forgotten. That's the beauty of this song, the meaning behind it is amazing. Someday nothing will be the same and we'll all miss those good ol" days because fate, you'll find, does say the strangest things.
So I sometimes Say, "Fate my friend, you say the strangest things I find Sometimes" that can speak a million words for anyone I don't care who you are.
Me too. Came out when I was in Highschool (2002), around the time I got my license. What an amazing time to be alive in California. I even had my hair grown out like The Strokes and picked up a guitar because of them (had a band for awhile). Indie Rock was AMAZING in the 2000s. Couldnt be beat when road-tripping to SF, LA, a beach/lake or the Sierras. Miss those times alot.
Just nostalgia, you love it and hate it at the same time because it reminds you of so many memories but it also reminds you of all all that is over and that you are growing older and older each day.
I don't even listen to the strokes, but GBV is my favorite band and I saw a photo of them at the family feud table. Somebody said it was from the Someday music video and that GBV's good friends with the strokes, now I have newfound respect for the strokes :D.

Just saw GBV live for the first time tonight.. Uncle Bob still parties at 66! What a guy- he had a cooler with beers on stage for the band and was passing around a bottle of vodka with the crowd- the band is still just as fun as this video and the songs rock 🤘
This song got me over my childhood. I realized I grew up already and I can't go back. It makes me sad but im glad for the times I had. I just wish I could hang out with some of my old friends one more time, be kids again just once.

Damn i am in the midst of Coronavirus outbreak and i haven’t seen my friends in many days. This song just made me so nostalgic and makes me miss my school days. oh Man did we have fun
When The Strokes' guitar riffs met the legend of Slash, Duff's bass, and Matt's beat, I knew it wasn't just any day... it was 'Someday'. This video is proof that when indie rock meets hard rock, the party is guaranteed! 🎸🤘
Me bate uma "dor" no coração quando toca essa música, algo que me deixa muito feliz, mas triste por ter deixado para trás uma pessoa que era muito determinada. Me perdi nesses anos e essa música faz eu me colocar novamente no caminho certo. Obrigado Strokes

They're better than arctic monkeys
Most of social life is still face-to-face 💀
Just because social media makes it easier and more convenient to stay in touch with people doesnt mean that people dont make meaningful friendships at school or even work

You’re too young to be in the whine-about-cell-phones generation.
the happiest i ever felt was when i first heard Someday, and i thought how fun would it be to make memories like they do in this video. & then i realized, i dont have that kind of friendship with anyone...

Well said pal.....Well said!! The mighty Strokes!!!
his voice is something that one cannot listen to for long though
+Still Breathing Its a rad voice, very New York-ish.
how drunk do he think i need to sound like stroke man sing, dawg?
The track talks about the idea that one day things will get better. The lyrics reflect the singer's search for comfort and assurance in the hard times, knowing that the present is only temporary and that someday, the difficult situation will pass. The singer expresses his fears and insecurities, but he also has hope that even in the toughest of times, he can continue to strive to grow and make things better. He ultimately finds hope in being able to take control of his own future and not waste time worrying or being overwhelmed.
thank you
It's a thousand times the opposite. It's about the idea of how those little silly stupid moments when you hang out with the people you don't realize you care about will eventually end, while meaningless now.. someday they'll be a beautiful memory.

One of the best songs of all time.

Welcome to some legends!

GBV's still making records, just listen to them.
Idk what I would do without music like this. It gives me a good feeling inside and makes me think. About the future.
So I sometimes
Say, "Fate my friend, you say the strangest things I find
Sometimes"
that can speak a million words for anyone I don't care who you are.
This song was sooo good back in the early 2000s. The strokes will always be a sick band. Glad to re-listen to this BANGER

Is it just me or does this song make anyone else kind of sad, yet upbeat, angry and uplifting?...
Shit's weird man! I still love it though.
No, you're not the only one. It is weird, I get the same feel from it.
Just nostalgia, you love it and hate it at the same time because it reminds you of so many memories but it also reminds you of all all that is over and that you are growing older and older each day.
The lyrics are pretty deep... Its only natural
I feel exactly the same ..
