There's something about that intro that just pumps you up no matter how many times you hear it...
Yes. I heard it in 1997 and bounced around to it. It sounded kind of exciting.
Truth be told it's my favorite Foo Fighters song and I wrote it too
Frfr and very very few songs nowadays have that type of power either
Because it’s used in the 1000 yard stare
It's got that end credits vibe.
RIP Taylor Hawkins, the incredible beating heart of the Foo Fighters has gone.

Drum in heaven man
@@cptchuff2741 I feel you on that, they were all from that generation that we grew up on, though I’m surprised to see Taylor amongst them given that he’s the only non-front man… Seems like the odd one out as he always seems so happy, but I guess it’s early to speculate on what happened to him.
My neighbor bought this cd in 1998. He was excited to show me. He pass away 5 years later. RIP bro

May your neighbor rest in peace. Life is not eternal, nor is it ever easy- but we can make the most of it. Those around us, and within ourselves to be the best example of what it truly means to be human. To put a positive effect on others hearts as they have done on yours. Enjoy the little moments in life, cause you’ll never know when it’ll end. ❤🖤

When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. Just read the news about Taylor Hawkins passing away… love to watch this again because him bursting out of the bed /drum kit was such a memorable part of this video. Rest well and much love to Dave and the Foo’s.

Dad died today.
1:20 am.
A five day battle with brain cancer.
I played this song for hours on a $49 dollar acoustic guitar beside his death bed.
He couldn't talk but I know he could hear.
It was the last song he ever heard,
and it was an honor to play it for you.
I'll miss you forever dad.

I’m so very sorry. I lost one of my older sisters back in 2004, it almost broke my entire family. I promise you, regardless of beliefs;you will see him again and he is around you. How do I know this? My mother passed before our eyes 1/27/2024 at 7:54am. The night before the last things we said were we loved each very much and I’d see her tomorrow. I woke up with this song in my head when I heard the phone ring to get my ass to the hospital. I spent too much time trying to find socks that match. We were in the room for two minutes before they called it. Her hand didn’t squeeze back when I held her, that’s how we secretly talked. I know where she is now and that she lives through me now. I kissed her forehead and left. This is my last semester and I will make my way to graduation with this song in my head. Mom Otter time is on hold until we meet again, and then we will hold hands that never stop squeezing back.

I have to say.. he didn't let Kurt down, great band.
I know it's great
+SuperChris85 It's sad because some Nirvana fans hate Dave because if it wasn't for Kurt, he wouldn't be this popular.
+Siguure OwO I would be pleased for Dave, since he was able to go on and become successful afterwards. He didn't let it be the end all, be all of his music career.
+Siguure OwO That's weird though, cause I love both bands it was only about two years ago I knew Dave was part of both, so I wouldn't think he being a part of Nirvana had anything to do with it, well not as much at least.

I was 14 years old the first time I listened to this song. At first I never paid too much attention to the lyrics and their meaning. Two months ago I met a girl and we started to forge a very nice bond. I'm not afraid to admit that I started to have feelings for her. Today she told me that she will leave the town next week to finish her studies, and that she will probably not return until next year. I'm happy for her, but I can't help being a little sad. And that was the moment I remembered this song, specifically "If everything could ever feel this real forever, if everything could ever be this good again". 11 years later, I'm finally able to give a deeper and more personal meaning to this song. And this is the story about why I'm here tonight. If you took the time to read this, thank you, it's late at night and right now this is the only way I can vent.

I can relate. I'm only 16 now, and my father played this song all the time when I was too young to understand it. I started to have feelings for a girl in my class last year. I only really started talking to her in the last marking period. I went to her birthday last month, and got her a pearl necklace. I didn't even wait around to see her open it. Now a new school year is starting, but I don't have any of the same classes as her. I probably won't ever see her again. Here I am now making a mix tape I probably won't send her, and sharing sob stories with strangers on the internet after midnight.
Benjamin Khoury I read this first and thought you said you gave her a pearl necklace on her b day (when you’re older you’ll understand)
This reminds me of the times I got with my Grandmother. She passed away on July 14, 2023 after being taken to the hospital at 8:30 AM that day. Figured it was fitting since we met at a *Foo Fighter* concert back in 2003. #Everlong
Hayden H that sounds perfect
That’s adorable

This clip/song is a masterpiece ❤❤
Some of the best guitars and vocals ever
There are many songs that take me back to my early 2000’s childhood nostalgia, but Everlong just hits the hardest.

Oh man, when I'm in this mood, Radiohead comes next, then Mazzy Star, an hour later I'm drunk as hell, wiping my snot and howling something to Bob Dylan songs.... ukrainan 35 y.o kid

That's why he's so effective. The foo doesn't see it coming.

**WARNING long comment**
TLDR: this song makes me sad.
I love this song, I'm an old gray haired grandmother now. This song makes me sad in a way because I think I'm probably going to leave this Earth never having been loved in a way that other's obviously have. I lost my highschool boyfriend in a tragic accident when I was 18, he may have loved me, but it probably wouldn't have lasted. We used used to talk about a future and it felt like it could be real, actually happen one day. I knew 2 months into my marriage that my husband didn't really love me and that he never would.. And the very few men, grand total of 2, that I've dared to let in after my divorce didn't love me either. I bonded with one over similar losses, we were sharing our sorrow, it went nowhere fast. The other lied from day one, hated himself, destroyed himself. Each of them cared about me a bit but didnt love me, certainly not in the way some people are loved. Just once in my life I wish I'd felt truly loved. The line in this song, "Breathe out so I can breathe you in," that line really gets to me. That line is beautiful, isn't it? I think it is, I think it's perfect. I love it but it hurts my heart to hear it. How fortunate and special it must be to have someone feel that way about you, even if it ends, it happened. For a moment in time someone truly loved you enough to feel that about you. Amazing. Any of you lucky enough to have been loved, felt loved you were lucky and I'm happy for you because there are people that never experience that sort of romantic love.
I think I understand you, at least in part, because I never was in relationship, and being 48 now I do not believe i can find anyone to truly love.
@@kalaruch1974 It is never too late, you are loved in so many ways, even if you don’t feel it x
Perhaps your love lies with another women with a kindred mind
Cool story. Tell it again, but please bring sandwiches. Love you maw maw
I feel you...
Remember waking up for school and MTV actually played music... good times ;)
dub2459 good old days, that’s for sure
dub2459 wish I was born in your time
by the time this video came out MTV was already trash. MTV stopped being about music when they put Big Brother on the air. all downhill from there.

I don’t have any “passing away” anecdotes. But part of my soul leaves me during that crescendo in the bridge.
Random facts about Everlong!
# The song was written at the low point of Grohl's career. He was recently divorced and two bandmates thinking about to leaving. (Drummer William Goldsmith and guitarist Pat Smear) Dave was in a sleeping bag on a friend's couch when he started writing it.
# In an interview, Grohl said the song is about "That song's about a girl that I'd fallen in love with and it was basically about being connected to someone so much, that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonise perfectly."
# The song is about about the start of his relationship with ex-wife, Jennifer Youngblood. The song Walking After You is to reflect his feelings after the divorce.
# Towards the end of the song, there is a instrumental drop and Grohl whispers as the song builds back up. The lyrics here have not been fully deciphered yet but its three different vocal tracks played simultaneously through the right, center and left speakers. One is love letter, the second is a studio technical manual and the last is a studio technician's story about his Dad forcing him hold boots.
# When Grohl first wrote the guitar rift, he thought it was a rip off Sonic Youth song.
# Everlong, (and the Foo Fighters) is David Letterman's favourite song. When he came back to the Late Night Show from heart surgery, Letterman requested the Foos to play Everlong at his opening. He also asked them to play for his retirement from the show. Dave was honoured.
# The concept for the video was to be a parody of Sam Rami's Evil Dead. Resembling a couple going to a cabin in the woods, being atracked at night and the hero loosing control of their hand.
# Director of the music video, Michel Gondry, has directed music videos for Björk, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Radiohead and many more. He then went on to direct films Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind and The Green Hornet.
# Grohl played an acoustic version of the song at a school for children with disabilities to get a standing ovation. He later commented that it was the closest he'd even been to crying on stage.
# In Friends, an orchestral version of Everlong was played after Chandler and Monica's wedding vows.
# The prelude and epilogue of the music video Learn to Fly is a goofy electronica version of Everlong. The scenes include Jack Black and Kyle Gass, which Grohl would later go to drum for in Tenacious D. The song was covered by The Moog Cookbook who previously covered Big Me for the music video Monkey Wrench.
