they did like 15 takes, getting more and more drunk each time, but this was actually their last which means they were probably wasted

It's hard how to quantify how much I love the Strokes songs. An awesome catalogue of great songs, I am thankful
The Strokes' early albums are so timeless due to their deceptive simplicity and candor, both in songwriting and production. You have to remember that at the time _Is This It_ came out, Nü Metal was at its absolute peak, with bands like Linkin Park and Papa Roach thriving in all their maximalist, Wagnerian loudness. The Strokes' ability to bring sophisticated harmonic chord patterns, charismatic lyricism and dynamics, and evocative, intimate imagery to their music was nothing short of a *stroke of genius. All of which were done so masterfully with no fluff and no filler; just smart, seemingly insouciant, minimalist guitar pop, appearing out of nowhere. It was such a welcome respite from the compressed, shredded noise that dominated the airwaves and the reason The Strokes' appeal continues to today.
Linkin park is the only nu metal band I can respect but these strokes guys take the cake of anything early 2000s my god
I think a lot of the strokes guitar is a lot more complex than it sounds really. There is just a pretty high degree of talent all around in that band.
@@swaginator5077 that’s bs. You’re probably only saying that because you haven’t listened to another nu metal bands. For me, Slipknot is at the top (but still linkin park are amazing)

When I was 15 I went on a trip to Amsterdam with a mate and his family who were from there. One day as we were trying to sneak into some coffee shops we saw a guy holding a map and talking on the phone who looked just like Albert Hammond Jr. So we were standing there in the middle of a busy shopping street, pointing, wondering if it was really him as we waited for him to hang up. Suddenly someone tapped me on my shoulder and said, "Hey kid, you should get his autograph, it's him". I replied that I thought so too and then a split second later realised it was actually Julian! I didn't have any paper, only those big rizla rolling papers, so he signed that for me. I said great show and he wrote "to Rachel". We laughed about it and then he signed another. Good memories :)

At 2:15, Albert knocked over the mic, so he turned around and I tried to grab it, meaning his guitar part was absent during that sequence. This album was truly worth looping in its entirety. Such a great album. Although I like later Strokes and Julian solo, this was truly untouchable
When a friend first gave me this CD, my first thought was the Velvet Underground. Upon further listening, this is the single greatest band to come out of the very
early 2000s. Jack White and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs deserve a mention, but this is the best all-around record made in that now-underappreciated era.
Didn’t really like this song when it came it out but recognize it now as a fantastic, feel-good summer patio with friends in Europe, mildly sentimentally sad , wonderful song. Brings me back with a slight a tear
