As much as the match says about the poor condition of the England squad, the comments in this thread also show the lack of values and mediocrity of the people who post them.
It's a sport people. You need to respect the players and the efforts they put during months and years while you're sitting on your couch making comments.

@@dulls8475 In 1066 Normandy was a duchy since 911, vassal to the King of France, it never was a kingdom. William was the duke of Normandy, like an earl of East Anglia in England. There were a majority of Northmen's descendants in Normandy upper class, like in there was in the Danelaw, at least before St. Brice's Day massacre of the Danes. And the Prussians invaded France two times, then, as Germans, two times more. Absolutely no link with rugby or football.

As french I did enjoyed that game very much but also felt for english team and fans the frustration we knew in the past of not being able to fight back at the right level on this game. Frenchman here, great content mate. I think we mustn't be too harsh on the English, as they had a moment in the early second half where they could have turned the dynamic of the game and if it wasn't for a few mistakes the score would not have been so one-sided. Plus, every team has their rough patches, look at France in the 2010's!

Congratulations France, brilliant performance, especially after Ireland made France look ordinary two weeks prior. The beauty of sport, you never know until the final whistle. England were not poor, they were made to look poor by a fantastic performance on the day. Play the same two teams next week, and you will get a different result. As an English rugby fan I am pleased England lost so heavily, now the ERFU must realise what damage they did by employing Eddie Jones for too long. Feb 2019 England 44 France 8. 2022 Ireland had a series win in NZ. The AB lost a lot of games over the past few years, sport like people goes in cycles. I wanted this 18 years long winless streak at Twickenham to finally end but never in my wildest dreams I would have imagine something like that to happen. One of the best performances les Bleus under Galthié management did for sure and I think that loss to Ireland definitely woke us up.
It's crazy to think we got hammered 44-8 in the same stadium just 4 years ago before that. I knew we were going to finally win soon enough because we were close in 2020 & 2021 but wow I never thought we would end the English winning streak at home by giving them their "France-New Zealand 2015" in Twickenham anytime soon. Btw Ben O'Keefe did a great job yesterday and he deserves to be the referee of the WC Final imo (except if NZ is in the Final ofc).

Coming from an Irishman, it’s sad to see England be pushed over so easily. The millennium cup is always one of the best fixtures of the six nations but (without being too cocky) it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be too contentious this year. No disrespect to the quality of this French side, that match was a demonstration of their dominance.
However, there’s too much talk of individual responsibility in that English side. This was a clear systematic failure. So much talk in the run-up about Smith v Farrell. As if that was the deciding factor. Now commentators are dragging out the “we should’ve kept Jones” and cannibalising Smith. The issues in this side seem to be bigger than just one coach or who’s playing at 10.
I did not expect to see the English pack so unfit!! Clearly, a rearranging is in order.

Farrel doesn't just push Cros, he tackles him, then gets up, and pushes him on the ground far away from the play so the referee doesn't notice (look at him at 9:35). A few seconds later, guess which defenders being late to come back cause the big opening ? Cros. There are lots of moments like this in every match, it's part of rugby, and I find it so funny I couldn't leave it unnoticed.

I don’t think Borthwick is the issue, but probably he is not the solution neither.
The issue started with Eddie Jones who avoided then slowed down the renewal process of this english team. Eddie kept some players that were in their prime in 2019 but have fallen short of being international references in the recent years .
To be fair, the problem of generation renewal is even more structural in england, the RFU closed league approach is the original sin leading to this situation.

You can only congratulate France - they are a quality team. It was interesting to hear the commentators talk about how the premiership is full of ‘heads up’ rugby and ‘flair’ and while it might be, has it also just become an echo chamber of fairly average rugby with weak defence and? It’s starting to look that way. Yes, there are structural, defensive and offensive issues in the national team, we have to accept that our players just aren’t good enough. Depressing, but we are where we are. I felt getting rid of Jones was the right idea, but the rot in English rugby goes deeper than that.

Well played the French, we are poor but at the same time we simply doesn’t have the same calibre of players France has. U20 got pumped and now the senior team, it’s no coincidence, we may have the largest pool of professional players but very few are world class, the domestic league is in tatters, need to deep dive to get to the root of many of these issues. I do think the RFU hanged on to Jones for too long, since not many young players were blooded since the 2019 WC and the style / alleged culture doesn’t cultivate potentials. Just hope the players give it the best shot next week and redeem some pride. Borthwick is the right man for now to get back to the basics but he is not going to set the world alight so we will see.

The reason that Dombrandt was out on the wing marking Penaud for the 6th (and 7th) tries was an injury among England's backs (Lawrence) after the two on the bench had been brought on for tactical reasons. Why Dombrandt got the post, and why out on the wing, is probably never going to be explained. For the 6th at least Freddie Steward should probably be asked some questions about why he couldn't get close enough even to make a token effort at a tackle.

Totally agree with the Boks. Their focus on referees is distracting them from fixing inherent flaws in their game.
While certain other creators amass thousands of views for ref-blaming, the Boks’ refusal to welcome crowds back to stadiums with expansive attacking rugby is a far bigger problem for them. Points differential saw them fail to win The Rugby Championship; despite them having by far the best squad and coaches of the four teams.
Ireland and France are leading the way with welcoming fans back into the stadia through easily-marketable beautiful attacking structures, while the Southern Hemisphere are too busy using SANZAAR to undermine the authority of World Rugby.

Rassie should take notice… it’s that way in any other sports, I’ve been playing volley ball and table tennis for decades now, our youth have travelled to Japan to understand what makes Japan’s youth players development so effective, and now France is the 3rd best youth nation in the world behind China and Japan with 2 of our U19 boys kicking top 10 senior players, chinese included. We’ve learn that way in football, with guys moving to foreign top leagues in Spain or Italy in the 90’s, same in Hand ball, same in volley ball with most of our french squad moving in italian or russian leagues. I do agree with you about Borthwick being very young and inexperienced in international terms. I wonder if the RFU will have the nous to encourage him to find a more mature mentor to work alongside him - someone with whom he gels and respects.
Unfortunately though English rugby’s problems are much greater than just the coaching set-up. The Premiership is not fit for purpose and currently isn’t providing the quality of players necessary to make the step up to international rugby. There are also massive financial issues plaguing the English game - two clubs, Worcester and Wasps, have already gone to the wall and rumours abound that they won’t be the only casualties!
This is the ideal time for the RFU to show some balls and proper leadership (& tough love!) to restructure the game and make it competitive again. Complacency and arrogance has been English rugby’s Achilles heel for a considerable period of time. Several decades ago, Will Carling described the RFU as being run by 57 old farts, more concerned about maintaining their match day jollies and the corporate elements. I wonder if anything has changed since those days …?

I don’t trust the RFU at all and that statement from Will Carling is totally true. You are right about Borthwick - it’s come much too early in his coaching career and his right hand man, Kevin Sinfield, is also a relatively inexperienced Defence Coach, fresh out of Rugby League and just over a year at Leicester Tigers! The RFU acted to sack Eddie Jones after hearing boos ringing around Twickenham. There were boos again after Saturday’s match! Surely they won’t press the trigger once again …?

Good analysis mate. I was at the game and I have to say France were incredible. I'm very excited to see how they got on in the RWC!
As an aside, that comment "as the British Empire continues to collapse so does their sporting teams" was pretty crass and immature.
Firstly, English sport, aside from rugby, is in pretty good shape. Men's football have reached a WC Semi and a Euros final in the last 5 years, Women's football won the Euros, Men's cricket are World Champs in both ODIs and T20s and are playing v well in Test cricket. Women's rugby reached the WC final and won a load of Grand Slams on the bounce. Meanwhile, we've had record Olympic medal hauls in London, Rio and Tokyo!!
Secondly, the British Empire ended in 1947 (or at the very latest 1997) depending on your historical perspective. So the comment about the Empire continuing to collapse was probably accurate 70 years ago, but not now.
I'd just be careful with comments like that in the future, they detract from the excellent work you're doing.

Really think the English (for years) have a bad sense of their domestic league and the quality of it world wide. I watch the premiership most weeks, and while there’s some nice tries and throwing the ball around, the teams are not to a high European quality, yes the salary cap has reduced their ability, but they are well off the standard of the top European teams. Says the same about their players too. Even teams like Edinburgh, Connacht, Bulls, Bordeaux (mid table teams in their leagues) would finish top 4 in the prem

we are a young team & unlike past teams lack international experience & to be fair we also lack a bit of street wise awareness, however that doesn't excuse trys given away due to penalties & just general lack of attention to were the damn ball is.
we have been near or at the top of the game for a long time & now it's time for someone else that's just how it is, 2- 3 years from now England will be a different team & look back on these past years as just a bad patch, it's not like southern hemispheres are playing to their best atm either, the whole game is evolving atm

England have a long way back to return to the top table in world rugby. Borthwick should now concentrate on the 3 R's - Beef, Brains and Backs. Beef up the physicality, use the brain to be more aware of strategy and tactics on the field, and train the backs to be more creative, fluid and accurate.

@@noamfinnegan8663 Against England, it was a conquering French side and more in form. This win at Twickenham was the main objective of French staff during this tournament. Greg Aldritt refreshed, François Cros and Jonathan Danty back on the field. Danty is more important than Dupont ! We have several great scrum-halves behind Dupont. Le Garrec and Couilloud are my favourites. Danty is irreplaceable as a number 12 in this team.

Let's not pass hasty judgement on England. As a team, they looked rather dislocated from their game plan. The French imposed their will on England with impunity. Additionally, Les Blues exuded high morale unlike their English counterparts who appeared lackluster.
I don't think theirs is a coaching problem, but probably the trickle down effect of a misfiring RFU.
However, there's still time before the RWC for the RFU to put it's house in order and give fans their money's worth; as well as avoid embarrassment.
