When I first loaded up Universal Audio Luna I was having an issue where i could not hear a loaded plugin, or i simply could load a 3rd party plugin at all.
Here is my work around.
in simple terms, from what I understand, ARM insures minimum latency. you can only track with the UAD plugs and you're limited by your interface (Quad or Octo). That's the magic of these UAD interfaces. You can't stack 20 plugs or 3rd party plugs and still have the UAD near zero latency WHILE tracking with Unison plugins. It's the closest thing to real tape and real hardware and is argueably the least latency in the biz. The ARM insures this by not allowing more plugs that your system allows.
you can use all your 3rd party plugs when you're mixing, just not when you're tracking.
like i said, "simple terms" and "from what i understand."
Thanks for this video, the ARM feature is for the realtime monitoring. It aims to minimize latency when using UAD plugins while tracking.
Hey,
Thanks for posting this video. Just wanted to pop in and let you know what the ARM button does. ARM stands for Accelerated Realtime Monitoring. Basically Luna will not be able to monitor the third party plugin because it is not running off of the DSP built into the Apollos.
Thank for responding... I did some research and found that info earlier this morning.
I like SHORT AND SWEET AND TO THE POINT👍
I just got me a new Mac and was trying to find my plugins.
Will try this fix in a bit.
Thank
You
Thank you.. I was able to turn off ARM, and then find 3rd party pluggins! Very helpful tutorial👍
I think arm is something like accelerated real time monitoring or something. It's on one of the introductory LUNA videos. As I understand it, using UAD plugins have very little latency, but native plugins will introduce latency. So turning that off makes sense... however, I spent a good 15 minutes trying to find my plugins and you just saved me from going insane. Thanks brotha man!
You are exactly correct. ARM only works with Native UAD plugins.
This worked. Thank you 🙏🏽
Very nice video man
DUDE THANK YOU!
Awesome bro
Just figured out the plugin problem on where they were hiding. If you create a new instrument(aka midi) track then you are offered all of the instrument plug ins you have but none of the effects plugins. If you are puting in inserts it will only show you the plugins for effects and mixing not any of the plugins for instruments such as synths or something. hope this was helpful
I had "HELL" finding where the plugins were until this^^^ THANKS!
thanks !
Thanks bro
So with audio units when record is not enable I have two mix with them instead of my ua plugins or do I add ua plugins by adding a bus then mix with them ,the unison you pick two track with all comes up .its just how two mix with audio units and uad plugins can some one help me set up my vocal chain and explain two me how it goes ..thank sorry for nube question
I was struggling with this as well. After watching your video, I feel like this is a huge design flaw by UA. UA boasted about how Luna's I/O buffer size was auto-adjusted for optimal performance but I don't understand why they don't allow you to engage ARM (accelerated realtime monitoring) when using a 3rd partly plugin. I experimented with several guitar amp/cab modeling plugins by Neural DSP and found that Luna has noticeably more latency than Logic. If only ARM was an option for 3rd party plugins. Unfortunately, it may be intentionally designed this way. #makemoney
I am on my 14day trial of NeuralDSP modeling and I can find it, load it into Luna, but I cannot get it to record on a track. Any idea what I need to do differently? I suspect it is defaulting to my UA Arrow processing.
Thx
Cool video..how do you do note repeat in luna..I'm doing drums and I would like to play fast highest without banging on my weighted keyboard..I havent been able to locate how to do this yet.
I haven't even begun to start programming any midi or using my keyboard yet. Sorry.
I have tried to use all Native Instruments Komplete plugins in Luna but although I load them they do not play. Is there something that I do not know? I have also tried with MIDI GUITAR but no sign... Could please someone help?
It works on mine
Since you are a Logic Pro X user, would be awesome to get a quick set up video to use Luna as a replacement for Console, so Console is not used anymore. Basically use Luna to route audio and use to zero latency plugins into Logic, so LPX can be used as the main DAW. Or any other workflow ideas.
Cheers!
Very interesting idea for a video, will have to think about what I have changed in this process.
@@itsanthonybest Awesome. I am sure you will get lots of engagement with the video!
hi Bro, thanks for the video... just a question, how you reduce latency for native plugins in Luna?
With luna you have no control over the sample size or latency. Your best bet would be to record at a higher bitrate like 96k which can reduce latency as well.
Most likely by now, you’ve realized the ARM button is for zero latency... turning it off typically creates latency.
Oh I forgot to ask, how did you get that bar below your transport buttons? I can't figure out how to show that damn thing.
Click the first circle icon under the "Workflow" area in the transport.
@@itsanthonybest Right on, thanks man
Thanks . I really wonder can I hide all unused uad plugins on the list?
This is been an issue for a very long time. The basic reason is... when you install the UAD software it installs ALL the plugins. So they are all visible. It is not checked until you try to use one if you have the correct authorization.
The VERY POOR work around is to go delete all the component files for the plugins you don't have, and then they won't appear, but then if you want to do a trail or buy a new plugin you will need to reinstall the UAD software and repeat the process.
Thank you Anthony 🙏
hey just curious i have some of my plugins that show up like ott which is an xfer ecords plugin but serum did not come up in luna (neither did my arturia v7 plugins) wondering if anyone has some advice on how to get them in there.
I have not yet found a "plugin manager" screen like i am used to with Logic. Do you know if these plugins are AU or VST based? I believe right now its only using AU format plugins.
@@itsanthonybest I was using all of them as AU plugins when using ableton live 10. Also do you know how to organize the authorized plugins you have from UAD aside from the no authorized?
jonah harris no, that’s been a pain with the UAD plugins in every daw I have ever used
Have you noticed when a plugin window is open your CPU usage skyrockets, even worst during playback. I have a good system, I can run up to 40 tracks and tons of waves plugins loaded on them in Logic and I don’t have an overload issue. But with just 4 plugins in Luna my cpu overloads when the window is open to edit settings but it’s fine once’s it close.
Can't say i have noticed this, but haven't monitored it closely.
This happens to me too. CPU maxed out and freezing and I’m using a fraction of the plugins I could easily use with Logic. Any ideas?
thanks you helped me find the 3rd party plugins but they arent taking effect. Maybe theres somethin to turn them on?
My hunch is that UA doesn't want to give the low latency access to competitor plugins, so you can only apply the effect of 3rd party plugins upon playback.
Those plugins aren’t loaded on the hardware. So that’s likely why you can not monitor with the ARM mode enabled
EXACTLY- you can load them “great” do they make any sound- NO...which means I will NOT use Luna because I have spent $$$ on Amazing Amp sims that I love...
How do we rescan our plug-in database? I had some fail the scan during the initial installation.
Me either, now i need rescan New plug-ins installed.
This is a fantastic question, and I think the answer is no... but it should rescan for plugins when you close and reopen the software. I cannot find a way to force a rescan. I have added some new plugins since starting to use Luna, and they have been added.
@@itsanthonybest Thank you! I have tried everything with no luck. Clean install AFTER removing all preference files pertaining to Luna. It will not rescan at launch! I have tried moving AU components in and out of the plugin directory to try and trick Luna into thinking some new plugins have been installed. But no luck! It frustrates me that you can't just do a simple rescan like you would in any other DAW. So now I have an expensive suite of high- quality plugins (Vengeance) I cannot use with this system at the moment. It just seems like they rolled this out far too early... Did you notice not one of the UA tutorial/intro videos said nothing about how automation works in Luna? Is that not an essential tool in mixing these days? LOL And what also pissed me right off is at Namn UAD said that the Neve summing extension would be free!!! Now all of a sudden they want 300 dollars for it! lol I dunno man this just seems a bit rushed out the door to me... Back to Logic X I go.
@@CanaldaDiferencial I figured it out. To do a force rescan of your plug ins navigate to here and delete the AU-plugins.json Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Universal Audio/workspace/AUPlug-Ins.json
and relaunch LUNA
But they make NO sound- the plugin loads but NOTHING comes out- load a guitar amp sim and play - it does nothing
is there anyone cannot find vst plugins on luna? i have fabfilter but not showing up..
No, currently there is only Audio Unit / AU plugin support. I am using fab filter as an audio unit plugin. May simply want to reinstall and make sure you install the AU plugin.
Thanks for that. short and simple. I uploaded Izotope plug-in pack, but cannot figure out where it needs to be so that LUNA can find it. Is there an easy way to place plug-ins directly where LUNA can see them? Thanks.
Luna can ONLY use Audio Unit Plugins, and they will be store in the default location if you are installing AU plugins. Thats where Luna looks.
it doesnt even startup for me. it stucks on scanning plugins. super weak software
Exactly! The freakin' thing doesn't cancel out old plugins i've deleted libraries from. Going in never ending circles asking me to locate sample library.. GRRRR!!!
I am having trouble getting omnisphere to load
Is it crashing or not appearing? It’s a first version I have heard lots of issues with crashing with certain plugins
@@itsanthonybest create a track for instrument and all of the plugins will pop up
I'm not seeing the ARM button.
If you click the circle icon under workflow in the transport you will see a menu drop down and you will see PRE Roll, Post Roll and the ARM button.
I have the record workflow open but the ARM button isn't there! @@itsanthonybest
@@mytoasterisbroke I assume you are using UAD Hardware? The workflow control at the top when opend should bring down a small menu with the ARM button. You can also find me on instagram and i can send you a screenshot of where it should be.
Under the Workflow button make sure the far left option RECORD is highlighted. Should be purple when selected.
What if the plug in isn’t there
Only Audio Unit (AU) type plugins will appear, and if ARM is enabled it will hide all non UAD DSP plugin.
So it is confirmed Luna will not use third-party plug-ins they will only use their proprietary plug-ins because of latency issues.
No... What is confirmed is you cannot use the Realtime Monitoring (totally hardware based) with plugins that are not UAD. You can still use 3rd party plugins, you can monitor them with a fixed latency / buffer size... You simply can't have what they are calling near zero latency with any plugin that is not made by and runs directly on the UAD Hardware.
