- Luna Tutorial How To Make a Beat using the FREE DAW for Apollo owners. Is this free DAW GOOD? Reid Stefan Realest Puppet In The Game produces beats using new 2020 Shape plugin by UAD with Kontakt, Halftime, and UAD Plugins. Luna is a brand new free recording software for beginners that combines the Pro Tools Shortcuts, with a minimalistic Logic style User interface. You must own an Apollo Interface to open Luna. Recording in Luna is very easy, however this tutorial highlights the midi and producing tools that are included in this music software. 3rd party plugins are available in Luna as AU plugins (no VST support) Mac OS is required to run Luna. Apollo Interface is require to run Luna.

Yo Reid been obsessed with your videos recently because I just purchased a starting home studio setup it's my first every experience running any daw in my life. I am running a slightly older version of Adobe audition with some nice plug ins such as medolyne, and I'm starting to feel like upgrading might be in my future. What would you suggest I upgrade first? My mic is defiently something I've been eyeing; so maybe in terms of just daw/computer upgrade, or anything for that matter what do you think I should do next? And how would something like this compare to what I have wih my older adobe audition? Love the vibes bro thanks
For context I'm also not involved in making beats at the moment and am just doing vocal recording and mixing, and the end of my question was basically asking how this daw would compare to what I'm running currently
Definitely upgrade your software and interface first. Those will make the biggest difference in your recording and producing quality. Update your computer later when you're experiencing CPU limitations. Luna and Apollo are bundled in 1 purchase, so it's my new #1 recommendation for beginners.

Yes you need 5.6 as the tutorial states. They removed the “add library” feature after 5.6

Kontakt version 5.6 has the option to import custom libraries. Everyone with a later version has to import the library from the file browser

Exactly. It’s an extremely simplified version of protools with a modern/simple visual appearance like GarageBand
I just got an apollo twin x but I cannot figure out the shape in luna. Are you producing sounds with the laptop keyboard or an external midi controller. If the latter how is it connected
connect your USB midi controller to your laptop, i use a cheap Akai MPK mini. sorry to reply 3 years too late!

Ummm, not free. Do you have an Apollo? No, then definitely not free. It is “free” like the sticker at the bottom of the Sweetwater box is “free”.
Why you lying ?
They offer the DAW for free, but then rip you a new asshole with the plugins. On top of that this is expected to be used with UAD hardware.
Luna is a DAW for Apollo users. You're not forced to buy any premium UAD plugins. Use any of the Audio Units you already own inside Luna instead of purchasing premium UAD stuff. The Half-Time plugin I used in this video costs $11 and worked great
