In origin we were created as slaves without soul, but we were so well made (part Neanderthal part Reptilian) that we could host a soul, so we were given souls by higher conciousness, we are in the procesess of creating sentient machines or beings, so I think if this new vessels are good enough they can also will be capable of hosting a soul and self awareness.

Can things like Chat-GPT in the future (because right now GPT-4 has no consciousness nor self-awareness) possess a soul? and by this question I ask further. Can AGI (Artificial general intelligence with super-human abilities) possess a soul if it possesses a consciousness (mind) of it's own? Is this possible according to the catholic church?
No, a machine can never have a soul. "It" will always be an "it." A soul is given by God. Don't let it have power over you (or them, because the demonic is always at work) by making you fearful, but rather trust in the Eternally more powerful God and in Jesus Christ. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Computers and AI are tools, they can be used for good or evil. Ultimately, God wins and we know He wins because, as Catholics as we profess in the Nicene Creed, we believe in the resurrection of the dead. Furthermore, we know that Christ will return and it shall be at that time that our resurrection happens. Will an "AI" apocalypse be the very brink of destruction that ushers in the Second Coming of Christ? Perhaps, perhaps not. Every generation thinks they are the last. The Apostles believed Christ would return in their lifetimes.

Father, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit I pray that you receive the Peace which surpasses all understanding and feel His Presence daily in your life and not these spirits of fear that prowl about seeking the ruin of souls. May they be judged by the Lord Jesus Christ and bound. Give us Your Holy Wisdom, O Lord, as you did for Solomon in his day, to build a spiritual temple of the Discernment of the Holy Spirit to guard us from the deceptions, lies, and evils of our day. May the intercession and constant protection of St. Michael the Archangel shield us from this spiritual onslaught of fear, despair, hopelessness, and disillusionment in our society and in individuals. Pour out your Grace to us, I plead, O Lord, to your servants and to all during this time to protect souls. I ask all these things in the Most Holy Name of Jesus Our Lord. Amen.

you first need to understand, a human doesn't have a soul - we *ARE* a soul. look into the mirror, you're looking at a living soul. no such thing as a dead soul.
