Where's the video on how the tigers have gone from a .01% chance to making the playoffs to be right there in the mix. No team has ever been eight games behind back in august and come back since the miracle mets.
I was confused when the Phillies signed him and even more in disbelief when Baltimore thought that was a good idea. The Dodgers pitching lab couldn’t fix him so idk if Tampa wants to try themselves
As an orioles fan, I get it. Our regular closer is gone until next season and we needed a stopgap to fill that role until either Bautista returns, someone else stepped up, or we got someone better suited to close in a trade
This is the same Craig Kimbrel, who was so bad in high pressure save situations in Boston that they didn't use him to close out the World Series... That was in 2018.....6 YEARS AGO!!!
Yep, the baseball career is only so long… I just had this conversation with my son who plays Division I baseball at Old Dominion in Virginia and you have to enjoy every second that you’re able to play this game!
@@kenw2225 To be honest he did begin declining around that time. He went from being an elite closer to someone who was wildly inconsistent. He would have moments of brilliance to just being awful. He was really bad when he started with the Cubs but got better and was even back to All-Star form, but the Cubs traded him away at the right time. He sucked with the White Sox, though, and he was just that journeyman reliever with the Dodgers, Phillies, and Orioles. He is probably a Hall of Famer but it's sad to see him drop off like Dallas Keuchel and Jake Arrieta.
Kimbrel was solid for a bit this season, I think he could still be an effective setup man or general reliever but should stay away from being a closer, it’s time to pass his wisdom on to the new generation
"We're all told at some point in time that we can no longer play the children's game, we just don't... don't know when that's gonna be. Some of us are told at eighteen, some of us are told at forty, but we're all told." Good luck, bird man.
Hes a great THROWER but has never been a complete PITCHER. If you only throw 2 pitches fastball heavy, both have to be dominant and be thrown for quality strikes consistently to hang around. Hes losing both of those, in both power and command. He is getting deeper and deeper into counts and hitters are forcing walks or reading his flat fastball or sitting on a hanging slider. His walks and hits per inning is always rising and his walk to k ratio has always been shrinking. Guys are just teeing off and when kimbrel is laboring in a long inning, they know there is going to be a hanging ball in the zone. He is not viable in this league anymore, hes not competitive in this league anymore and most pitchers are now better than him. Time to hang it up he had a good ride!
As a former Dodgers pitcher he has good (not great) for a bit then he turned into “Craig Krumble” because he’s been falling apart before the team decided not to sign him and traded him
HOF track has to do with their cumulative careers as a whole. His time in ATL was him being the best reliever in baseball. Playing pretty badly for the Cubs, ChiSox, Dodgers, Phillies, and now Orioles allows him to still add to the career numbers, but no fan base for any of those teams will say anything good about him. Predictably bad for Baltimore this year.
I'm a die-hard Orioles fan and I have nothing but good things to say about Kimbrel. If it weren't for him the Orioles would not even be in the race at this point. He was outstanding the first half of the season and I will always CHOOSE to remember the Craig Kimbrel from the first half of this season just that I will choose to forget about post All-Star break Kimbrel when I look back. The guy has a Hall of Fame closer, and if your top five and saves all time how can you not be? But more importantly he was a Hall of Fame person and a Hall of Fame teammate
It would be ideal if players would just accept when they no longer are at their best. Kimbrel has had a very good career he can be proud of. I would like to see players accept when it is over and not be designated for assignment. Baseball organizations need to stop picking up players who have seen better days. I have seen the Giants do that more than once. Dignity and grace are better than being shown the door.
As a long time Braves fan, this really sucks to see. Kimbrel used to be my guy out there man.. when he left I wanted to see him continue his success but maybe he is washed. Oh well, still a future HOFer and gave Braves country more great memories than I can count.
To move forward in your career after youve lost your best fastball is difficult. Kimbrel just didnt have enough of a 2nd 3rd or 4th pitch to keep going. Hes pretty much done.
I need to lock in. I had no idea he played for like half of those teams. I have absolutely no recollection of him being in Chicago at all. I thought he only played for Atlanta, Boston, and Philly.
I wish the Yankees management would have the balls to admit that one or more of their players suck and should be DFA'd. Get rid of Clay Holmes for god sake and stop putting him into close games. Freaking guy blew another save in the 8th inning yesterday by giving up a game tying homerun, I think that is now 13 blown saves. Boone is a freaking moron to keep putting this man in the game. Get rid of Clay Holmes and hell pick up Kimbrel and see what he can do in New York. Can not be any more worse then Clay Holmes.
Watch post game interviews and you’ll not want to feel bad for him. The whole disaster with the orioles, he kept insisting he wasn’t pitching badly it was just bad ump calls and unlucky hits. He snapped at reporters repeatedly for asking even the most innocent questions about his performance. Ego maniac.
Anyway, Orioles is such a loser and has no manners. They should’ve done goodbye in different way than DFA. Such an evil. Orioles will never get postseason in 2024
It a results business and he not good enough what do you want Kimbrel to do go and retire or go to triple a his ego is to big to be relegated. When you are blowing safe left right and center you are not good enough
No, the reason the Phillies lost the NLCS is not Kimbrel lol. They lost because their lineup went cold in the last two games of the series, exactly like the year before.
tbh I think most Phillies fans assign too much blame to Kimbrel for his games against Arizona, and I think more blame should go to the pitching coach for how they used him. they should've known he wouldn't be great, but they still put him in back to back games, in the 7th inning when he was doing better in the 9th, etc. he dropped the ball, no doubt, but not as much as other Phillies fans claim. at least my NL all-star jersey from that year is the funniest possible jersey now lmao
