I think that you have the same feelings as a lot of other people who are successful otter trappers. I on the other hand think that any trap the otter gets caught in is my favorite trap at that moment. The 280 has some uses where a 330 is just to big. Thanks for watching.
I like that you make your own h stand I think way you had fur damage is your pegs are sharp if you can use a chain link for that they will be rounded thanks for the video
The fur damage I had was from the trap not the H-stand but you are right a chain link may be a better choice for the peg. I will keep that in mind if/when I build some more. Thanks for the tip and for watching.
That would work good for the taller stands. I run a 6 foot cable with an adjustable end on all my 330s so I can tie off to sticks, chewed off trees, or I use a T-bar stake and I am not worried about the H-stand going any where. Like I said in the video I have never even had an H-stand tipped over or moved. They work good that way if the animal is in deep enough water to drown. The new design is meant for the trap to come off the stand to protect the fur and to go in shallower water with the trap only have submerged. Thanks for watching.
I sometimes due the same thing to get my trap in the water far enough to meet the law but sometimes the rocky bottom doesn't allow for that so the 280s will make it so I can still trap in shallower water or if the water drops and a 330 is to tall. Thanks for watching.
I am not sure what you are asking or telling me. I use 3/8 because it is a standard size of rebar and I don't want them to bend and they have worked for years for me as I show making them. Thanks for watching.
That may be true but a trapper 100 years ago wouldn't even think of trapping beaver on the prairie like me where most beaver houses have no sticks and are made from mud and corn stalks that don't secure traps very well. Thanks for watching.

I deal with the area I trap very well and the small things like this can save a lot of time on the line and help produce more catches in these sets if your trap is good and stable.

When I quit, 27 years ago, I was getting $37 ($68.90 in todays money), but I was actually after Fisher and Coyote. In 1968 I tried beaver and learned that at any price the effort wasn't justified. I didn't last the season before I gave up. Good luck with your series!!
It is a way different fur market now than it was then. Even from just a couple years ago. It is a hobby for me so if it pays for the gas I am happy. I have made okay money the past few seasons except for last season was basically a break even. For me the more work the more rewarding it is.

I keep the tops of mine clip together to keep the trap on the stand. The clip is attached to a cable or chain which is a anchor point.

Some guys will dig a trench in the creek to get the trap submerged enough
