I had never trapped till this past season I discovered ur videos went n got sum 330s at the farm store an caught 2 the very first check I'm hooked thanks for showing us step by step
Little brother, you must really love to be outdoors. You have more patience than I do for critters like that. I really enjoy all of your videos. Keep them coming!
Love that set, well done. Watching your videos got me started on these sets. We learned about them during our trapping course but your videos show how its done. I started standing a small thin stick alongside the drowning rod so when the trap is pulled down it knocks it over. It works as a guide stick and when its gone when you walk up, you know the set was successful.
My blood pressure goes through the roof when I see you set these traps!!!
Why's that?
@@330Maniac afraid it’s going to take a finger
Oh haha. No I've never caught a finger in one this way. Just have to be careful
Started running a few of the no bs beaver extremes this year, and yes I caught myself in one. It’s a stout trap, can’t say it’s stronger than my mb 750’s but it definitely has a better catch area and the pan is better.
Great set and catch Scott, drowning rods are a sure bet on first time beavers.👍😁
Awesome set, very deadly.
How do you prep your foothold traps for beaver? Dip? Paint? Wax? Nothing? Thanks.
Nothing
Me too….nothing. The thought is under water, no scent. But I also don’t use drowning rods on leg hold traps. Only 1 in a blue moon actually bite off their foot. Especially if you check traps first thing in the morning.
“Get out of there leaf!”. 😂 I find myself talking to inanimate objects when I’m working on a set. Lol
Loving the videos! Still 2 feet of ice on our lakes up here where I am in Northern Ontario Canada. Tried to get into some trout and smelt on Lake superior tribs but still to frozen up. Hopefully we get spring soon. Can't wait for your spring fishing vids. Take care.
Thanks!! We actually have 2ft of ice on our lakes as well. I'm heading out ice fishing tomorrow. We need some warm temps and rain!!
SW Ontario, I've already cut my grass once. LOL
Nice one, very enjoy to watch!
Great job buddy! I'm getting ready to make drowning rods and start beaver trapping next season!!
Nice clean sets 👍🏻 they produce.
Im a bodygrip guy , but your right ! Those are quick and deadly ! Keepum comin !
I really love body grips as well. Been getting some nice beaver in 330 castor mounds lately!
@@330Maniac did you make your drowning rods or did you buy them?
I made them myself
@@330Maniac funny because today I watched your video on how to make drowning rods. I will be buying some of the supplies this weekend and making a few. Thank you for the great ideas
B's extreme great trap I use same set up here in Maine
easy one 👌, good job 👏
Are you setting on an actual castor mound you found, or did set it up?
I see you have a washer welded onto the top of your rebar, but do you weld anything onto the other end
(that you stuck into the mud)? Just curious because I don’t see how the trap would stay on when you pull it up out of the water like you did?
Yes I Do. I have a video on how to build them I made last spring
I heard the trap snap when you were setting it. Do you have a night latch done to the trap
Yes, they are all nightlatched
@330Maniac 10-4 i though it was a t85 trap
I trapped a ton in the 80s, and we never had those rebar sliders. It's bulky for hauling too far, but that's a slick system.
They work extremely well. You can't carry more than a couple though as the downside if you're walking in somewhere. Trapping from a boat they are nice
I'm in Mississippi, and 1/8" cable has been the best on drowning sets for me with old 25lb flat weights I had left from an old workout system. I'm relatively new to this. Just trapping nuisance beavers for farmers. Good money and meat! Question: how many beavers is typical for a colony? And do you have to switch things up to get the last few? Im like 5 beavers in and the catches are getting further and fewer in between. I know where the lodge is, and I still haven't gotten within 100 yards of it.
I used to use cable but it has a very short life span. After a few catches it gets kinked and the trap doesn't always make it done the wire, hangs up on the kink areas. Drowning rods are bulky but never go bad. You can take all the beaver with the same sets. Generally you'll have 2 adult beaver and 2 or 3 smaller ones
@@330Maniac that makes sense. I don't know how to weld though so I would
Need someone to hook me up!
That's good to know. I've caught 3 smaller ones and 2 big ones. I think I'm near the end of this group! Excellent info as always! Thanks for the reply!
Lights out I’d say!
going to have to get us a jar of bearded man beaver lure .
Do you ever notice or experience more misses when the water rises ? Had 3 misses on drowners which I normally don’t, the water raised here lots, traps were bedded properly but got some misses
Ideally you want the trap 3 4 inches under the water
Do you still eat them in the spring or is fall best to eat.
What is the best rubber wader hole patch antidote ?
Tuck Tape
Where can I get a drowning rod set?
You buy the rods from a building supply company and then make them yourself
@@330Maniac gotcha
What about the "no slip" clips that are put on the rod?
Beaver goes down, but can't come up?
Does that make sense?
Thanks for the info
Those are drowning locks made by Hags. Look back on my video from this time last spring. All the info should be in that description
👍
What's the point of these traps over the 330s? I have never trapped before so I honestly have no idea. To me it just seems like it takes longer to kill the beaver. Not trying to hate or anything, just curious what you get with these you don't with a 330 given the implications.
You can make these sets in shallow water by shore where a 330 must be half submerged. Also you'll catch trap shy beaver in these sets where a 330 they will shy away from.
@@330Maniac Interesting, I assumed setting them shallow was one reason. Didn't really know they got trap shy.
Yes they can get extremely smart. Nothing harder to catch than a trap shy beaver
1:40 ''HOPEFULLY IT DOES'NT BITE ME", Won't be the 1st time!
i hope my last time was the last time....
Looks good for clay, but muck, loose sand or rock would make it tough. Any time staking always has that drawback. Obviously a front foot set up.
How do you tell the males and females apart?
👍👍👍
Отлично ! Учусь у Вас.
Early this season you did a short video called "how is this even possible 5 foot beaver" just curious what happened with that spot did you pull a big one out of there
You think Your trees are damaged by beavers i have no big trees Left 😂
Takes a lot of beaver to pay for traps and rebar anymore. Unless you are getting paid to get nuisance beaver out, hardly worth the fuel. Ya just gotta love hanging a 50-60# animal. I still get em for the meat.
Ever trip and fall into the water? I mean trip and go down in deep water?
