I became a minimalist because of that blog/book too!! I never looked back! Its changed my life because it removes stress and worry around those items!!!
Minimalism has been the most eye opening and freeing experience for me. It feels so light and refreshing to live with less. However, I do struggle with it because I live with 3 other people so I can't completely go bare minimum like I would prefer. Love your videos!
I love finding fellow nurses on here! I'm a NICU nurse and absolutely love it. It takes a strong person to be an ER nurse...you guys are non stop down there! Congrats on your quickly growing channel!
Definitely agree about nursing school being more stressful than necessary. Just finished my second semester and I was about to lose my mind with worry. Starting back on the 20th. Wish me luck!
you just seem like such a genuine person and i love watching your videos. I’ve really been reading more into minimalism and have a lot of strong opinions on consumerism. yet i feel as though the only thing holding me back is my family’s judgement
I totally realize that this isn't something many people talk about, but would you ever consider doing a video on your faith/why you don't consider yourself a Christian anymore/what you believe now?
I absolutely agree, and that's why I asked if she would consider it. It's her business and whether she wants to share it or not is all in her hands. Nobody's forcing her to do anything.
I am personally not a minimalist but every three months i do declutter with each season i get rid of things i haven't used and i donate it so that others can benefit from and enjoy it as much as i did so that way i am clutter free 😊😊😊😊😊too much stuff is so overwhelming that it stresses me out 😅😅😅😅😅
Where did you get your top? I really like high neck halter tops, but have such a hard time finding ones that fit my style. Please, please, please tell me your source.
Came across your videos somehow and have really been inspired by your minimalist style. I now consider myself a minimalist and honestly feel less stressed. Thanks!
Currently binge watching your videos after discovering your channel. I'm currently selling/giving away pretty much everything I own. Finding your videos very inspirational along this journey.
Oh my God, I have trichotillomania too! I can't believe it, you're the first person ever I know it about apart from myself! I'm actually so happy, I always got strange questions and stares because I just couldn't stop doing it. It was also one of the many reasons why I changed my really long hair into a buzz cut! And I totally understand you that xou don't likr to talk about it and are embarrassed, it's the same for me. I also grt incredibly angry when people point it out, try to stop me from doing it etc. You're definitely not alone on this!
I'm glad to have found your channel. I am also a nurse (LTAC nurse) and I am trying to live a more minimalistic lifestyle. I feel like my job is very stressful and takes a lot out of me so I want to try and at least minimize the stress at home so decluttering has been very therapeutic for my mind.
I like your presentation style and the fact you provided points to jump to right away. I'm a minimalist and like people who make it easy for me to navigate their videos for the sake of time.
Hello from Sydney 🇦🇺, Minimalism has changed my life because, I suffer from mental health issues - one being OCD, which is MUCH better now as I know exactly what and where everything is and regarding my appearances, I too have a buzz cut as it not only saves money, as I cut and colour it myself, it has taken away my lifelong (I'm 47) absolute obsession with my hair and hair salons! PS: I as a nurse too, it is a very stressful job 😟 Thank you for taking the time to post your videos, take care of yourself, Nicole
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, spelling mistake of mine noticed : I WAS a nurse, not as.....I blame it on the 2 brain surgeries for burst aneurysms (which I survived unscathed) - but it is in fact due to old age!!! I can tell you are beautiful soul😇
Thank you for sharing parts of your life and self. It certainly is helping me thru my journey of de_clutter and dealing with my fantasy self. I do however enjoy cooking. But I will minimize the gadgets.
I've cleared maybe half my closet + other things. You've reminded me I got more to do! Interested to see what you think of Seattle since I kinda live out here haha. Also vegan life is legit! Glad you're open to it. It's been over 2 years and and it's probs the best choice I've made in my life. I have a handful of allergies + this chronic esophagus condition but I make it work. Built a healthy relationship with food too! DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP FOR NOT BEING 100%! ITS FINE LOL. It's a process. : )
Thank you for sharing a bit of your life with us. I work in a pediatric hospital in California, and I have mad Respect for our nurses, so kudos to you for choosing that line of work. It wasn't until I worked with nurses that I realized everything they do. I'm a newbie to Minimalism, so right now I'm eating up everything I can find right now. Eventually I will get through all your videos, please keep them coming, you are an inspiration! You're my favorite minimalist UA-cam channel because I can identify with you: less than perfect childhood, person of color, working in a hospital, and short hair! I shaved off my shoulder length hair in April for a cancer research fundraiser (St. Baldrick's). Being bald is/was the most liberated I've felt in a long time. Thank you so much for being here!!! :-)
I love this! I didn't even know what we did until I started honestly. It had been tough and we see everything I swear. You are so bold for doing that for cancer! Sending you good vibes!
I only recently came across your facebook page. Thank you for being so open. I just wanted to tell you how awesome you look with your short hair! LOVE IT!
I'm just now looking to lean more minimalist in my possessions, and your videos have been super inspirational and peaceful. Would you ever consider vlogging about your travels, or sharing travel photos?
That's amazing that you strive for a 90% vegan diet, knowing that's the best thing for you right now! It's so rad that you're open to it and you want to get there, and you shouldn't be too hard on yourself for not being there yet. It's a tough lifestyle to adopt all at once, and I always recommend to people that they take chunks of animals products out of their diet and replace them one at a time. :)
Hey, I am from Portland OR! Great videos btw. At the moment I am trying to adopt a minimalist life style. Your videos have tought me a lot about it. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Thanks for talking about your Trich. Another youtuber I love, Beckie Jane Brown, has talked about her Trich struggles a ton on youtube. I don't have it but I deal with other struggles and it's so hard sometimes to be open about these things.
Love your videos and style! Thanks for sharing your journey and your home & belongings with us. Like some other folks I am also wondering where you got that grey top :)
Hi from Oregon! I just want to say I enjoy your openness and truth. I too have dealt with nervous/stressed habits my whole life and I started on Skullcap and completely went away. If you are open to exploring plants for that and your finger and wrist pain I would suggest finding a holistic herbalist or I could work with you remotely. (There are some great ones in Portland!) Addressing it early can alleviate and prevent further damage. Just to be clear this is coming from a place of care, like when you can comfort a patient...I just hate to think that someone could suffer more because I didn't share a simple suggestion or service. I've been enjoying your videos! They help keep me on track on my clearing my life path. Also, after my partner just spent weeks in and out of the ER and hospital, I revisited my thoughts of nursing school...it is my dream to bring herbalism back into medicine, which was validated by an Infectious Disease Doc as they had nothing for my partner and suggested he stay on my protocol upon discharge...anyhow, I enjoy your honesty about school and nursing, and hopefully someday people like us can work along side each other for the best care possible. I commend your career choice. Have a lovely day!
Hi Janell, I'm an optometry student from Melbourne, I want to tell you I relate to you when you say you don't entirely love your job and you can't wait to go home. I do feel like I want to do more - feeling like growing financially and intellectually. Minimalism does definitely help with my level-headedness and maintain a good relationship with myself when I am bombarded with constant feedbacks in clinics and keeping up with lectures while working both weekends at an optical store. By having less, you have more time to spend on other things that really matter. I know this comment is a little wishy-washy, I appreciate your videos. Please keep doing what you are doing.
I’m new to your videos since I’ve started to downsize quite a bit and learn to live simply (minimally). Interesting videos so far. I respect the courage it takes to open up and share a part of yourself with the world. Stepping out of your comfort zone does do a lot for self growth and I enjoy it myself. I’ll give the short response though...I like it, keep it going as you see fit, and know your style is definitely a positive vibe. I’m learning everyday, too, Janell. Pacific Northwest would welcome you... :-)
I’m from Texas too! East Texas area. I’m not a minimalist, but since moving out of my moms house, I have only the basics because I was too lazy to take a bunch of furniture with me. My mattress is on the floor and I only have a nightstand. My books are stacked on the floor and everything else is in my thankfully large closet. My landlord saw that my bed is on the floor and asked if I need a bed frame 😂😅 But definitely in the south people buy a lot useless furniture and decorations. People pay so much money for “vintage” stuff from overpriced boutiques. Shabby chic is like a lifestyle here. Some people don’t understand when it’s a choice not to have all that stuff. I know a lady who bought a secondhand couch she didn’t need and then didn’t have anywhere in her house to put it so she had to put it in storage.
I like your short hair it's cute on you. Would love to do that myself but am afraid I wouldn't like it on me. Easy care. Glad you're making a successful life for yourself.
I’m super curious about your family background. I think it is very interesting that both your parents are biracial. Depending on their ages, the rarity of their parents meeting and then them meeting is very fascinating to think about. I also wonder does that dynamic lead you to your interesting personality or is it a dynamic you want to be removed from. Basically you are ethnically ambiguous which can be challenging and or freeing hence the minimalism, wanderlust, introvert personality etc. I’m American Blackity Black with no real interesting ethnic background but I married a Polish German so I’m eager to give my children a solid footing on their background. I worry about these aspects but you appear to be doing just fine! Quite interesting personality but doing alright in the world!
I LOVE this q and a. I read the description box dont feel obligated to plan the answers out it felt organic this way. I agree w. Your answer to the girl im assuming wanting to move for a job she may later resent him if she doesnt do it bc of him.
Been loving all of your content! Now I love you even more for being from Louisiana or the south in general. (I am from Nola). Any advice for southern who want to travel but don't know much about how to dress for weather besides subtropical climate
Thank you so much for answering my question. I really really appreciate it!! Minimalism has changed my life because my life and my room is not filled with stuff I constantly have to worry about or have to clean so I have more free time to spend with my partner or even spending time alone on things that I like. However I do want to downsize much more just because when I do move out from my parents house I don't want a bunch of stuff in my new place.
You’re the first person I ever heard say they have pain in their hands, I also have the same pain you described ever since I was 21. I’d love to see a video where you talk about it more, I thought it was only me having that problem.
Nursing definitely forces you out of your comfort zone and eventually makes you stronger and more confident. Bringing the dead back and other crap we do every day at work does that eventually.
I have a degree in Anthropology and I can definitely relate to the lack of career prospect having a degree like that, especially in Nigeria where I am from. Just discovered your channel and its great
I loved the Sims growing up and never thought of the clutter effect us in that way. Great reference. What advice to you give your patients with SCD? TFS 💜
You're a flexitarian - that's cool! If all the omnivores became flexitarian: climate change would be largely resolved. The famous book "The China Study" by T Colin Campbell, assessed that the rural Chinese had very few problems with typical Western chronic diseases ( such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and auto-immune illnesses ), because their diet is about 90% vegan ( give or take ). So, your diet is dietary minimalism in action....Cheers from Sydney Australia.
Salvatore Pace as someone who was flexitarian before going vegan, I think it's best to encourage people to at least reduce as much as possible. usually, once people realize how easy it is to go vegan and that meat isn't needed, they make the switch. That's what happened to me and a few of the friends who i turned vegan. Of course being fully vegan is best, but i'd rather people give reducetarianism a try than never make any adjustments to their diet at all.
Cajun = Fancy name for light skinned black folks. Duvet covers are insane. Old school cotton quilts and cotton blankets are what I use when the weather cools. Boll and Branch organic nic cotton blankets is the brand I buy , but they are $$$. Totally with you on laziness contributing to my minimalism. I cannot imagine spending all my free time cleaning and fixing STUFF. Frankly, you look more stunning with short hair, but I am biased because so do I!
We have a sub culture with unique foods, customs, music and dance too. But yes I'm black! When it's time for me to replace my sheets and things I look into them. And thank you!! You've been with my channel since day one and I appreciate you!
I am sorry I still want to talk about your duvet cover :) what do you do now? Do you wash your duvet instead of the duvet cover? Isn't that more difficult?
Hey have you considered taking healthy smoothies to work (sea moss, berries, mango, avocado, no sugar but agave is fine) it would help to keep you full throughout your shift and it’s healthy as opposed to scarfing down microwaved food . Just a suggestion :) love your channel
Ah - if your need any recommendations for Portland let me know! I've lived here for almost a decade and love to help people get to know the city and all the beautiful nature that's so close by!
I’m in my late 30s and have had trichotillomania since I was 12. I have worn my hair up almost everyday of the past decade to keep the urge to pull at a minimum, but I still have a few quarter sized bald spots that I don’t think will ever fill back in.
Oh girl I’m a nurse in LA and I had to leave bedside right after my 3rd year (two wks ago). I feel like I failed but case management is my next adventure. I’d love to talk if you’re up for it
Hello from Cleveland, Congrats on 11k! I have been a minimalist for a little over a year now, I came across the Netflix documentary called “Minimalism”. Literally after watching it I started my journey. I really like your content!
I have trichotillomania too, although i don't think it's that bad for me, but still really annoying. and yes it is exactly like biting your nails. if i'm not biting my nails then i'm picking at my hair and vise-versa. i think it's like an ocd tic used to relieve anxiety. i hate it and wish i could stop and just be chill for once in my life. do you think you'll ever grow your hair out long ever again?
With your creole/mixed race background do you identify as Black? Living a minimalist lifestyle and traveling is not something I see a lot of Black people venture into, especially on UA-cam. You mentioned Louisiana and Houston..immediately thought of Beyoncé..lol! I am a Registered Nurse (14 years) as well and for over two years I have been working from home as a Case Manager...but I did my share of hospital nursing and I realized that was NOT for me! I love seeing ppl get well but the politics of the hospital was NOT patient centered. I often wonder if I had to do it again, would I have chosen nursing....probably not!
YES. I am black but I can't deny I have a lot of light skinned privilege. I slowly see more black people traveling which makes me very happy but I wish it was more common. My dads side of the family swears we're related to her (great grandmothers were sisters or something) but I'm hesitant to believe them lol. I'm glad you found an area of nursing that you like!
Janell Kristina yes, I know light skinned privilege is REAL and can be heartbreaking even within our own community. I’m hoping to continue embracing minimalism and eventually start traveling more. Thanks for your video and response 😊
can you talk some more about that angel program? I've never heard about it before and it sounds like something i'd want to donate to but i can't find any information about it online!
Just found your channel, and I absolutely love it! You seem so down to earth; I just wanna be your friend, haha. Keep putting out bomb material!
Watching this (2/2/19) and WOW! this channel BLEW UP! Good for you! Loving your content!
You are a very powerful individual. Its awesome to see someone following their own path and living life to the fullest. Plus helping others.
I became a minimalist because of that blog/book too!! I never looked back! Its changed my life because it removes stress and worry around those items!!!
11k? Watching this in September and you're at 50k+! Congratulations! 💕
Good luck!! I've been there and you've got this!
you just seem like such a genuine person and i love watching your videos. I’ve really been reading more into minimalism and have a lot of strong opinions on consumerism. yet i feel as though the only thing holding me back is my family’s judgement
I'm about to start a minimalist lifestyle and have really enjoyed hearing how you've made your choices. Thanks.
I totally realize that this isn't something many people talk about, but would you ever consider doing a video on your faith/why you don't consider yourself a Christian anymore/what you believe now?
Yess that would be very intresting
Yes it's something I want to do but I wasn't sure if the topic would be received well and it would be a long story. Hopefully in the next month or so!
do the thing! ;)
Maybe she doesn’t believe in anything, and that’s her business.
Thanks!
Thank you for your honesty. Love your hair and your straight forward talking style.
Currently binge watching your videos after discovering your channel. I'm currently selling/giving away pretty much everything I own.
Finding your videos very inspirational along this journey.
Oh my God, I have trichotillomania too! I can't believe it, you're the first person ever I know it about apart from myself!
I love how honest you are, kind of a matter of fact person !
I like your presentation style and the fact you provided points to jump to right away. I'm a minimalist and like people who make it easy for me to navigate their videos for the sake of time.
what’s the credit card flight thing you did to get free flights??
Hello from Sydney 🇦🇺,
Minimalism has changed my life because, I suffer from mental health issues - one being OCD, which is MUCH better now as I know exactly what and where everything is and regarding my appearances, I too have a buzz cut as it not only saves money, as I cut and colour it myself, it has taken away my lifelong (I'm 47) absolute obsession with my hair and hair salons!
PS: I as a nurse too, it is a very stressful job 😟
Thank you for taking the time to post your videos, take care of yourself, Nicole
Same with the OCD and I can't imagine spending as much as I use to on hair products ever again! Take care of yourself too love!
Can u do a video on how u fixed your credit
Oluwapolola Lamidi agreed, I’m in college and going to graduate soon and my credit is shit right now. Would love to see a video on this!
Hello from Cape Town, South Africa! 🇿🇦 I've just started watching your videos and I'm really enjoying them so far.

Hey,
I am from Portland OR! Great videos btw. At the moment I am trying to adopt a minimalist life style. Your videos have tought me a lot about it. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

You’re so inspirational

Hi Janell, I'm an optometry student from Melbourne, I want to tell you I relate to you when you say you don't entirely love your job and you can't wait to go home. I do feel like I want to do more - feeling like growing financially and intellectually. I have my BA in anthropology and journalism and now am exploring going back to school for funeral studies and psychology/law
Great video! Thank you. Many Blessings on your continued journey.

Love your videos so much❤️ one day you should make a video about what your beliefs on Christianity is, what you believe in, and spirituality. Details!
I like your short hair it's cute on you. Would love to do that myself but am afraid I wouldn't like it on me. Easy care. Glad you're making a successful life for yourself.
loved this, very insightful 😊
You could study an MA / PhD in medical anthropology.

Of course and moving is always a great time to downsize!
Becoming 100% vegan is a journey! Take your time, you're doing amazing with trying your best
You’re the first person I ever heard say they have pain in their hands, I also have the same pain you described ever since I was 21. I’d love to see a video where you talk about it more, I thought it was only me having that problem.
Where do you get your tops from? I've been looking for some like that :)
Thanks for your videos. You are awesome

I love your shirt! I've also always wanted to visit Australia and stay for awhile, perhaps a working holiday Visa trip

Of course being fully vegan is best, but i'd rather people give reducetarianism a try than never make any adjustments to their diet at all.
Enjoyed this a lot. Thank you.
you are my new favorite youtuber
So Real and Legit.👌👌
Really looking foward to learn more..and i just subscribed😄
Isn't that more difficult?
she meant the actually duvet; the cover is the easy part.. Probably layering sheets.
Best professions for pisces: nurse, vet, artist, musician, health educator, philanthropist
I work in the ER too. Nurses are the best :)
Awwww I’m in Seattle. Love it here
Hey have you considered taking healthy smoothies to work (sea moss, berries, mango, avocado, no sugar but agave is fine) it would help to keep you full throughout your shift and it’s healthy as opposed to scarfing down microwaved food . Just a suggestion :) love your channel
Your smile is beautiful ❤️
Ah - if your need any recommendations for Portland let me know! I've lived here for almost a decade and love to help people get to know the city and all the beautiful nature that's so close by!
I found a new UA-cam who is great don't change and if you must change for improvement of your own perspective. She awesome right everyone?
I’m in my late 30s and have had trichotillomania since I was 12. I have worn my hair up almost everyday of the past decade to keep the urge to pull at a minimum, but I still have a few quarter sized bald spots that I don’t think will ever fill back in.
I'm so sorry ):
Just found your channel 👌🏼 Ditto on the doona, I’ve been looking at Rumpl 🌅
Oh girl I’m a nurse in LA and I had to leave bedside right after my 3rd year (two wks ago). I feel like I failed but case management is my next adventure. I’d love to talk if you’re up for it
I enjoyed watching all your videos❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
Thanks for answering my question! How old are you & do you know your MBTI type?
i would like to know that too
24 and INFJ, as I've grown it's shifting to more INFP
I just found your channel 2 days ago. Good to know you're also 24 and INFJ turning INFP. :P
I'm 27 and INFP! I'M YOU GUYS IN THE FUTURE 😂
Hello from Cleveland,
Congrats on 11k!
I have been a minimalist for a little over a year now, I came across the Netflix documentary called “Minimalism”. Literally after watching it I started my journey. I really like your content!
Could you do a tattoo tour /meaning video :)?xx
Congrats. And as far as living in this country, I'd go Seattle (or Tacoma or SeaTac) over Portland.
wow you are so cool without even trying. ER nurse + minimalist. :)
Have you read Porcelain by Moby. Besides the drugs and Kind of job, your life story reminds me of that book sort of.
Parts of your childhood sounds like parts of mine with the angels at Christmas but in NYC it was a Santa.
I have tricotelamania too 😣 it started when I had a desk job. I've been tempted to shave my head for years 😣
I feel you, if anything the low maintenance is great lol
I have trichotillomania too, although i don't think it's that bad for me, but still really annoying. and yes it is exactly like biting your nails. if i'm not biting my nails then i'm picking at my hair and vise-versa. i think it's like an ocd tic used to relieve anxiety. i hate it and wish i could stop and just be chill for once in my life. do you think you'll ever grow your hair out long ever again?
How do you travel? How you plan it and go through with it?
I live in Santa Cruz (1hr south of SF) and would be down to host!
Subbed. I like your style.
How do you travel so much? Pls give me tips! Ya girl is trying to see the world on a budget
What is your Myers Briggs personality type?
my guess is infp
@@FIXON99 I'm an infp myself. I agree
What's your zodiac. Are you an air element zodiac?
+hi hi thanks, I'm an intp, I always agree. (esp with myself so there's that lmfao)
I am an INTJ
Female wise what do you use for products and body hair do you shave ?
How come you move so often? I think that's badass I wish I could just get up and move.
omg wait whats the three credit card travel hack?
can you talk some more about that angel program? I've never heard about it before and it sounds like something i'd want to donate to but i can't find any information about it online!
It's through the salvation army angel tree 😊 we pick a child from the tree and give them gifts every year
thank you!
Awesome channel keep it up! If you don't have much friends in SF let me know I'd love to meet and show you around!
Where in Texas?
