Don Frye still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. He was such an icon in mma.
He does. Bad man!
True rolemodel
Why you tell shit? I'm living in an ass of the world and me and my friends know all of his fights!
He's gotten plenty of recognition
I agree 100%
All these original guys who looked like super hereos or comic book characters, Dan Severn, Don frye, Ken Shamrock these were the guys that launched MMA into the stratosphere. They missed the big money but they deserved it more than anybody.
Stratosphere*
amen to that brotha, & theres always that ONE GUY that gotta correct that spelling error like YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN lad 😊
@@someonecool777 You mean like a school teacher? Horrible people, they don't contribute to society at all. Everyone should just be stupid.
@@mwilliamshs Amen to that brotha, all these original guys who looked like super hereos or comic book characters, Dan Severn, Don frye, Ken Shamrock these were the guys that launched MMA into the stratosphere. They missed the big money but they deserved it more than anybody.
Kev: You are damn right.
My dad surprised me with tickets to the Miesha Tate/Ronda Rousey fight. I had never been to such an event, nor seldom watched the sport at all, but was happy to tagalong with him. We sat roughly 3 rows back (watched that elbow snap up close and personal) and was pleasantly surprised with how many big celebrities we sat amongst (not sure how he got such good tickets). In walks Don Frye. I had no idea who this man was, only that I'd never seen my dad so excited. He hands me his phone and says "I want you to get my picture with this man, son. Even if he starts beating the shit out of me." My dad, who I chalked up as one of the strongest "working man strength" men I'd known in my life, very awkwardly approached Mr. Frye (who had a couple beers in him by this point) and goes "Excuse me, sir." Mr. Frye, without even looking, goes "No pictures!" My father retorted "How about one of you kicking my ass then?" He loved that and gladly let me take their picture together. Completely made my dad's night and as soon as we got home he showed me the video of Mr. Frye fighting Takayama. I still chuckle about that memory to this day knowing if Mr. Frye would have started laying the beatdown, my dad would have been laying on the ground with a smile and a thumbs up to have received a total whoopin from this legend.
This is the best story I've heard in a while. Don Frye so amazing that your regular blue collar man would happily take an ass whooping from him and smile
Funny shit dude
Quality comment. Thx for sharing. 🤣👊
Your story made me smile such an amazing memory life experience
That's awesome man! What a story!
Don Frye was the epitome of a warrior's spirit. Never afraid, never intimidated, always respectful after his fights with opponents. He is an inspiration and a legend. The same can be said of the many opponents he faced. Don Frye will someday die, but like the great warriors, his name will live forever.
Legend has it Don's mustache was a bareknuckle boxing champion in the 1920s....
🤣🤣🤣
I heard there isn't even a lip underneath. It's just another fist.
@@jthopkins2544bro 😂😂😂
Oh sorta similar to Chuck Norris goatee😂
You are all wrong. He had the first bullet proof moustache ever. Apparently he once tried too shave it off but it kept breaking the razors.
I got the chance to meet Don many years ago. He autographed my shirt and treated me like we'd known each other forever. Totally cool person.
cool story
Don Frye vs Yoshihiro Takayama will forever be one of my favorites. Both guys fought hard!
Frye tells opponent “We can do it again” after the opponent try’s to gouge Frye’s eyes out. What a beast.
Don was my first favorite fighter. What a legend. I can only imagine what his legacy would be like if he didn't start so late.
He was my first favorite too. Dynamite in both hands and world class wrestling. No trickery. Nothing fancy. 👍
@@MrTyjnash nothing but masculinity
That little grin he'd give too, always made cheer.
Tom Selleck in his final form was nothing to mess with.
Lol.
If I may humbly contest the point: Tom Selleck in any form is not to be messed with.
His final form 😅😂
100% American Bad Ass. Legendary.
This was the "alternative" fighting I grew up with.
These guys will always be the "OG" crew.
I absolutely LOVE the respect these men show each other. LEGENDARY!
Don Frye, in the Universe also known as Omni-Man.
Lol this is what i was thinking as well. They just have that classic friendly hard working dad look when they smile but when its time for action they suddenly look like a killing machine with eyes of a tiger that could match Mike Tysons glare.
@billfred9411 Younger Frye vs Prime Tyson would be the only thing more intense than this fight. Lol. Mike is a beast, but Don hunts beasts...
@jvstrats8640 That was my thought too! As soon as I first saw Invincible, I imagined Don Frye as Omni-Man
His eyes after the gouge were maybe inspiration for the red eye omniman scene.
Dude would cringe reading that
He's like Tom Selleck but angry and with big balls
One comment he made, cant remember what he said but he made a reference to a Queen song, so maybe he has been told he looks like Freddy Mercury as well lol
@@heretoannoyu4706: Aw man! That's not even close to true.
Don't forget the hypodermic sticking out of his ass, pretty sure Tom Selleck never did steroids.
@@knivesgunfights526 the fact he said a line from a queen song or he looks like Freddie?
that's fucking Mike Haggar
Don Frye and Dan Severn will always be my favorite fighters of all time, ive not seen anyone quite like those guys. Dan was just so unbelieveably powerful, and Don was a machine, he simply couldnt and wouldnt give up you could beat the crap out of him and he will instantly pop back up and drop you. His resolve was unmatched.
Takayama became paralyzed that is the fight everyone asked Don Frye about. Don Frye road 82 touching message about everyone strives to be the type of martial artist as takayama and that he embodies the spirit of Bushido. He called him takayama San and this praise him with the greatest amount of respect. He said God seen fit to give me the toughest fighter of my life. Don Frye is a living legend and a class act. He sent very honorable and respectful word to another living legend that unfortunately became paralyzed from the neck down.
Watching it now in 2023. He STILL UNBELIEVABLE. TRUE WARRIOR.
24 december 2023 😂
Much respect to Don. I hope he's doing well. A real warrior.
he isnt. his life is shit now.
He and Dan Severn do a podcast now I believe.
@@adammatis5527 yes, and Don is hilarious!
Dan and dons toxic masculinity podcast is where you can find him now
@@patient_6925 Oh,did that hurt your feelings?
He was amazing, the brutality of those fights will remain in the minds of the fans forever.
Don Frye is a real pioneer of MMA as royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock,... At their time, it was just true free fight and nothing else. Thanks so much to them for what they bring to their sport
Might be an odd comment, but Don Frye had the physique that I aspire to have. Dude was rock-effin'-solid like a concrete wall.
Would you 69 with him?
He literally looks like how I imagine Superman. Not overly huge but like you said, absolutely rock solid as if the body was chiseled from marble.
@@RSpracticalshooting Would you give him a message to relax his marble body muscles?
I'd do whatever daddy wanted me to
@@skettinbutter3635 🤣
I don't care how many fighters I watch and admire, of whom there are MANY, Don Frye will forever be my hero in the sport.
"But Don's strangulation with his forearm put an end to Paul's torment!" Had me dying... 😂
I always loved to watch him fight. A true legend that doesn't get the recognition he deserves
This guy is the reason I became a fan of the sport. Absolute warrior.
You must be at least 100 yrs old. I'm so sorry I couldn't help myself 😅
Him saying being in that guard was a rest is hilarious. He's a legend and there will never be another legend like Don Frye. Hell yea dude
Don Frye was a monster. Him and Ken Shamrock are my all time favorite MMA fighters. They were just so damn fun to watch.
What a great recap of this legend's career :) UFC Tom Selleck was always my favorite!
The level of aggression and conviction he exhibited is incredible
with gorilla hormones yes
Don Fry never tapped. That's how tough he was
When you got don Frye in a submission, you tapped.
Don was always humble
well, no one made him tap.
Fry and many others fought on pain killers, his fight with shamrock while on pain meds is why his legs were never the same again.
@@NavyVet4955 One of my favorite fights of all time...
Wow. What an incredible career. He is the definition of a warrior!
He's got a lot of skill but the most mind blowing thing to me is his stamina. Man does not slow down one bit.
Don Frye is an all American bad ass with brutal punches he needs more recognition
The fact that Don wasn't rich says everything we need to know about UFC
Wasn't a lot of money in the sport during Fry's run.
You're just a salty anti-Dana boy. Don was in the UFC when it was just starting and still operating at a loss, or just scraping by... what money was Dana supposed to give him? The company was broke af back then... States were trying to shut them down, couldn't get sanctions, etc. UFC was struggling at the time. They only started making a lot relatively recently as far as big businesses go
He was also in pride and several other promotions does that tell you all you need to know about them?
Many boxers make more in one bout than UFC fighters make in an entire career. It's terrible.
Don frye was one of the great American forefathers of the sport. Always going to be in my top 3.
I like how even tho there were no rules, Don decided to not trow strikes to head against a smaller opponent. Dan did similar things.
True Man of Class. Nothing bit Respect. 💯
All those Chuck Norris jokes could apply exactly to Don Frye
there's no lip under Don Frye's moustache, there's only another fist
Except don deserves the jokes because hes what chuck wishes to be
why did hollywood miss this guy..Don should be in the big screen with that look..
Watch Godzilla Final Wars
He got some roles later on... But let's be real, he could have been a movie star in his heyday.
Then, he could’ve. Now he looks like a Mexican grandpa. His voice tho… he sounds like he chews car engine and gargles with boulders
@@Jedimindkillerjr so did you..when u got old..i meant AT THAT TIME stupid
Don was one of best fighter of all time , if not the best , classy , talented , all business, no show boating , hood man in every way
Don Frye was a absolute beast in the octagon and just fun to watch. I miss the old days of the UFC, where if you won you moved on to the 2nd fight and if you won again you fight a 3rd time with whoever won their 2 fights. They should bring back the tournament style.
I met Don at a meet and greet with Ken Shamrock on a tour to promote their fight. …such a cool dude .
yeah, I remember that!!
Didn't you noticed that mustage bra 😂
Frye and Severn are the badass brothers of Freddy Mercury and Tom Selleck.
Hahahah nice one 👊
yes dude so well put
Don is the dude you want on you team in a bar fight lol
Helius takayama as his hardest fight of all time. When takayama was paralyzed in a car accident Don came to see him. And wrote in a letter to him that he embodies Bushido and everyone should strive to be a warrior as he was. His letter to takeyama was much more touching but that's basically what it meant. Showed him a lot of respect by calling him takayama san. He said takayama is everything a warrior should be.
He got paralyzed in pro wrestling math botch move.
Don Frye was one of the best.
I would have never bet against him.
One of the best in the early years, that's it,no disrespect to him but his skill set was one dimensional at best,no kicks, awkward punching ( check out Frye vs Jerome Lebanner-kickboxer) descent wrestling, but not enough to deal with Mark Coleman,no jiu jitsu game, just tough and strong
He just punched with bad intentions such a wicked right arm
@@mojojoji5493 Wicked right arm?🤔 WTF are you talking about,he was never a big puncher
@@Mike-xh9kn ahh if you don’t know about that you know nothing !
@@mojojoji5493 It's called Reality..He was tough,no doubt, but not great,c'mon lol BTW If you're going to go back and forth with someone learn how to properly form sentences
I have taught MMA for years. Back in the day I was pretty good… but nothing close to these guys. Nothing but respect for these guys. Don is a beast.
XO you must really love touching other dudes
Undeniably one of the very best MMA fighters in history! I applaud u sir Don Frye!
What a beast. An all time great MMA fighter. The best to him.
Don Fry: the human form of a raging Wolverine. What a legend!
I love when the fighters embrace at the end. Seeing the respect for each other is great. There is so much arrogance in sports and entertainment these days.
wtf are you talking about? LOTS of guys show respect to each other after a fight
@@teddyperkins3406 there are lots that don’t as well. I’m speaking about the two at the conclusion of the match where they embrace you can see the utmost respect for each other. Most of the fights I’ve seen the winner does his victory dance and straight into I’m the baddest mofo on the planet bull crap. Granted they could all beat me to a pulp but the character of people these days seems to be diminishing.
@@cooper7354 nah. youre deluded if you think this is something new. stop pretending that honor left the UFC just because older fighters retired.
Don Frye is a beast and probably one of my favorite fighters. He deserves way more recognition than he gets
It never gets old watching DONS fights. The true AMERICAN BADASS
There is this unsanitized 'look' to these old fights. Of course MMA has evolved to a higher standard but I can still get a kick out of watching most of the old fights over most of modern fights.
7:56 If only the fighters would do this strategy more often. Love to see the brutal body shots, forget the face.
Hall is a beast to take 10 mins of body shots by an early Frye.
I have so much respect for this man...
Started watching with UFC 1 back when no one knew what it was really. I'm a grappler at heart so the likes of Mark Coleman and Dan Severn were instantly my heroes. Then came The Predator! After some 25 years of enthusiastically following many fighters, Id say Don Frye is my all time favorite.
Definitely one of the best! A legend!
Favorite fighter of all time. A true legend
He’s in my top 3 incredible
Don Frye has class, no bs, just doing his job and respected all his opponents, a good man.
Well said!
Thanks for making such a nice program. Didn't realize Don was such a beast of a fighter.
Always loved Don frye, what a great guy...
And a terrifying guy to get into a fight with!...
Don fry... INSANO um dos melhores.
Don and Ken are why and how I fell into MMA. Don vs Takeyama still my favorite fight ever
There is nothing more bad ass than mutual respect between fighters.
The one and only Don fry! A true legend in the MMA world! Gob bless this humble man he is a true legend!
For me is Don one of the most talented MMA fighters ever. Respect to the Legend.
Don Frye was like the first actual G.I Joe. A true legend
In spite of there always being incredible fighters throughout the world, I still feel like it’s true to say that “they don’t make ‘em like that anymore.”
yeah, fighters nowadays actually have technique and a better gameplan than simply clinching and trading blows like fucking cavemen.
I remember this man he was the real deal.
Don Frye was and still is a man’s man!!!!. Nothing but respect!!!!!!!!man fought with his heart!!!!!!!
When he said "there can be only one"... he´s the HIGHLANDER!
What a legend… yes he had skill but it was more heart/tenacity than anything. He had the mentality that he wasn’t walking out of that cage alive
Man a TRUE WARRIOR. ALL AROUND. STILL UNBELIEVABLE. DEE MAN
.... well observed. THATS THE QUALITY OF A TRUE WARRIOR. YOU ME US. CAN APPLY THAT ATTITUDE IN OUR LIVES. Like paying Bills. Dealing with ailments. Diet ; cancer a Break up ; Nutrition... etc etc. we’re ALL WARRIORS. it’s just not only physical. I use TOO train. For 5 years. I’m pass my prime now. But I hav applied that Warrior Mentality. To other. AVENUES. YOU TOO MY FRIEND. .
Donny Frye was the baddest dude ever! Way more brutal fighters than today w all the rules.
He was the warrior to end all warriors. The fighters he fought were also beasts & they deserve tbe big $ these guys get today
i really enjoyed that, thank you, what a fantastic legend
It's always good to be reminded that Don's voice couldn't always saw a brick in half.
Takayama has a cervical spine injury and currently lives in a wheelchair. But he still fights desperately to get into the ring. yes. Like this match, he never gives up and fights.
Wow... I had no idea. Interesting.
Cant wait to see their "Legendary Butterbean" special also. Imagine the dominant right hooks and powerful lefts, contra the submissions from puny opponents. Cant wait!
There could only be one Don Fry. He brings pure destructive power in the octogon. Legend...legend...legend.
Don used to come into a bar that I worked at. He was always such a nice guy. You'd never guess he was one of the baddest men around
Don Frye was and is…and always will be a colossus and puglistic genius that bestrides the universe
Don Fry,
What a fighter.

There's power in the stache.
This was great
Frye guy was a madman. Every fight had heart and brutality. Long live the Don.

The “Dan & Don’s toxic masculinity” podcast is definitely worth checking out. Don was the best! Man did he age roughly, though. He sounds and looks 10 years older than he is but still tough as nails.
Terrific video! An epic highlight reel with great info on his opponents & wins. Much respect for Frye!
Pretty sure I just hear Don Fry quote "There can be only one" from The Highlander and it was awesome.
favorite fighter of all time, no equal
I've just learnt about Don Fry from this video, and I wonder how many times I've seen him fight and just thought he was Dan Severn instead. Uncanny resemblance between the two, and both killers to boot.
Don Frye is a beast! Helped to define the sport of MMA and put it mainstream
Don was the first really complete fighter in terms of being able to grapple and punch.
Absolutely.
Legend
I’m from Benson AZ. Not too far from where this dude’s legend began. Crazy to see someone so powerful come out of this small corner of Arizona
Pretty great video guys.
