- New post-Brexit border checks come into effect today and will lead to increased prices and chaos for businesses.
Millions of products face document checks coming into the UK for the first time and Govt is ignoring industry and experts who say the plans are "horrendous and chaotic".
Govt estimates for the new checks are shown to be ten times lower than what experts. The British farming crisis means there is less British food as well which will ensure a food crisis over the next few months.

A blind man could have seen these troubles coming as a result of Brexit.
I am old enough to remember how things used to be before our decision to enter the then Common Market. If you wanted European specialities, you would have to go to an upmarket delicatessen to procure them and pay through the nose. Only the better off could afford such products for in those days they were considered luxury items.
Then along came our entry into the then Common Market and then, with times, these luxury items became available from each and every supermarket or even minimarket.
When the result of the referendum was announced, I knew then that it would mark a return to the _status quo ante_ . And so it is proving to be.
In my humble opinion, the electorate took leave of its senses in voting to leave the European Union. Unfortunately, many of the people who voted to get out of the EU were too young to remember the difficulties and expense of purchasing European wares which, by the end, became everyday items for us, spoiling us for choice. Now, all that is becoming a distant memory.

Not only Brexiteers should be blamed for this mess. For decades, most British took quite a negative stance towards the EU, even if in the end they voted to remain. The EU was blamed for everything by almost everyone. This overall negativity and the incredible lies of the leave campaign caused this Brexit. So yes there are import checks that should have been implemented years ago like we did here in the EU. From day one after the UK left, we had checks on anything entering the EU from the UK. That's what one does with goods coming from a "third country". So why the whining now? You all knew this was coming. In the current circumstances, you should be happy that you were spared the checks for many years. There is no doubt the Tories have done nothing to improve the UK in the last 14 years, they have no negotiating skills regarding Brexit and have just spaffed our taxes over those years on things like Bibby Stockholm Rwanda,Ferries that don’t exist etc. What has happened is we have huge inflation costs since the disastrous Truss budget ,then with Brexit makes essentials cost even more .
Remember the same checks now were done for all food entering the EU but the cost was spread out. Cant see big importers not adding the full extra 10%. Why would the EU sign a vet deal with the UK that benefits UK exporters (with EU free standards cost). Soon extra virgin olive oil will be smuggled in like cig/drugs
Most of the olive oil has been tampered with. For some reason the checks don't pick this up but lab analysis of the product proves it.

We are setting ourselves up to fail. Rather than scare-mongering, let's report on what ACTUALLY happens because no one can stop these checks. The checks must be done.

They won’t be checking that many imports. Its all smoke and mirrors to avoid massive traffic chaos at ports as we haven’t the staff to do checks and all the time the smugglers are laughing.
Unfortunately for the UK it chose to be a "third country" and the EU is constrained to apply the rules agreed in the TCA. If the UK does not abide by those rules every other WTO member can insist on its imports being treated, under the "most favoured nation" rule, with the same exemptions as those being given to EU imports. What would be worse? increased border controls with the relative increased costs, or an influx of totally uncontrolled rubbish into the UK. that may also endanger health? Driving pallet trucks through polstyrene bricks like Bojo and proclaiming that that's Getting Brexit Done was such a load of hyperbolic twaddle but enough idiots fell for it to believe that it actually had some practical significance in the real world. If Brits keep believing in people that we used call "all mouth and trousers" I'm afraid they're in for a very rough ride.
well said. The idiotiv Brexiteers have no concept of the complications of the WTO: Being a 'member state simply means you have 'permission' to attend meetings and discussions and NOT that you have any trade deals with anybody. There are over a hunbdred trade blocs in the world and they are all interlinked depending on the commodities being bought/sold and quotas are applied on many things that limit the quantities that can be traded.
