- Ride along with squad 14 from the Los Angeles County Fire Department to a stroke together with engine 14 and a McCormick ambulance. The units from station 14 as well as other units were at an event at station 170 in Inglewood when the call from 14s first due came in //

@SpartanML The La County Rescue Squads, like their name employs, are rescuers, who do not attack the fire, but go into the building to get people out. The same is for car wrecks...squads carry the tools neccisary to get people out of danger and to keep people alive until they can get to a hospital. Thats why paramedics are found 90% of the time on squads and ambulances then on engines and trucks.
Being a rescueman I think is still the best job in firefighting.
@580tobi If its an BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulance, and an engine company, they are only staffed with up to EMT-I personnel. The squad's carry paramedics, (or EMT-P) which are allowed to give narcotics, IV's, ect to keep the patients alive. The engine will usualy respond to help the medics and ambulance crew to life the patient, extract him, (such as in a car crash or fire). EMT levels go like this:
First Responder: Chiefs
EMT-B to EMT-I: basic firefighters
EMT-P: Paramedics.
@580tobi Great question, The reason why is in many US cities engines and truck companies have ALS certified personnel on board that can provide assistance to BLS staffed ambulances. However they cannot transport as their primary duty remains firefighting. The squad is exclusively EMS ops related and allows for a paramedic to ride along with the basic life support ambulance. BLS ambulances are easier and much cheaper to staff in large numbers. ALS is not, That is why there are squad trucks.
Nice driving grandma......
I remember when my Aunt passed away from a stroke, and we found her, we still asked for Police, Fire and Ambulance, a) She was very heavy lady, and hard to move.
b) If there is a death, Police, Fire and Ambulance are usually dispatched, so there is a First on Scene. c) the FD was close by, and so was the PD.
@williboy95 Lol, it sounds like on GTASA for the PC when you mess up your sounds with sirens and you go to hit your brakes thats the sound it makes.
@frylock44 you know that they must stop at intersections and that the streets aren't the best?!
@Rummeltobi Yeah but he is still going really slow, its like he is in no hurry at all.
There should be a ice cream truck siren.
@FirstDue yes I now that a stroke can be deadly. But for what do you need the squad if the engine(first responder i think) and the ambulance arrived???
our state government would "kill" our head office from the firebrigade if he would send to every stroke an engine, an squad(in germany: Rüstwagen) and an ambulance(in germany: RTW).
There are huge costs for our town.
In Germany they send to a stroke: an ambulance, and a car with an doctor
(sorry for my bad english)
@SpartanML ah, ok thank you. I understand. I thougth: 3 cars for a stoke. It`s a little bit too much. But i did not now the "system"
Thank you :)
ive been watching those vids for a long time now, how 'bout filming the entire package? Making it a documentary about what they do and how they do it. Do it "COPS" style and make it something new! Nobody has ever done this before!
@jow112 It was understandable.
@ProudVolunteer19 Looks like there was a police car in the parking lot to the left.
@williboy95
hmm ice cream van? :P
Ice Cream truck at 4:41!
4.44 the eis.cream men ;)
Do they really drive to a stroke, only a stroke, with an engine, an ambulance and a squad???
Not really? Only for a stroke???
a bit slow for first due...
Is the squad a manual shift? I thought everything would be automatic.
@farmtruck551 I agree with the code three thing ur saying,
but r u really ready to risk an entire crew, weather on an engine, ambulance or squad, when driving code three to a broken nail?
Is a broken nail really serious enough to risk 2 to 4 peoples lives?
@chadfilms1 Thank you for your response. I think the "system" is a little bit difficult to understand for a person who is not adept in the "emergency system" from the USA.
Than you for your explication. :)
Pick up some of those live lobsters on the way back!
@DreamOf944 year, but it's still weird :D
lol car and sound at: 4:34 ...
4:43 : magic !
@580tobi Most of the time with a stroke someone dies.
Great driving.
why did he hold up his fingers at 4:20 ?
with it being a stroke where seconds count, not minutes, why is he going so slow? Or is it just me because usually thats one of the most urgent calls.
@SharpAirsoft but if you have a stroke what is the difference if 2 paramedics vet you (maybe a doctor too) an the whole "team" of the engine an the squad are standing around you.
If the engine was a first responder it is ok but for what do you need the squad?
I agree with you that a stroke can be deadly and is very bad but for what do you need the squad if the ambulace and the engine arrived?
@580tobi Most of the time someone dies from a stroke? WOW, after 27 years in EMS, I must have seen 1,000's of strokes saved, if they get to a hospital in a timely fashion. Also sir, not all atrokes are strokes, sometimes it could be a TIA, Diabetic issue, ETOH, seixure, etc. Don't be so cart blanch on the matter, your response tells me you are very inexperienced, if at all...
maybe this is just me but...
1) a stroke is a fairly serious emergency, a person only has so much time to get to the hospital to prevent brain damage after a stroke, so maybe pick up the response pace a little...
2) enough playing with the siren, you were given lights AND sirens to affectivly move traffic in a safe manner while responding to emergencies, lik a stroke. i treat every call as a code 3; heart attack or broken nail. the person who called felt it was an emergency, treat it like one
@SpartanML yes I have
but for what do you need for example the squad? if the egine was the first reponder ?
I know the a stroke is very bad and can often be deadly (if you do net get the "right" help) but if the engine and the ambulance arrived whats the use of the squad?
(sorry for my english)
4:43 lol xD
does it have its hi-lo horns ?
@580tobi Do you have any idea about the severity of strokes?
@farmtruck551 agreed, if its in a non-buisy town or road...then again on average a driver will encounter a emergency vehicle responding every seven years...and 70% of the time they wont know what to do. had a woman stop, not pull over or anything, right in front of me while responding on the freeway. scared the u know what out of me.
@chadfilms1 well there is a difference between stupid and smart code three driving... life dosent have to be at risk if your driving smart
@jow112 Don't say sorry, your English is easy to understand.
LIGHT FORCE 170!
