I can personally attest that the Jsaux case will protect the Steam Deck in an inadvertent drop test with the cover on. But do not carry the Jsaux by the kick stand unless you want to do your own drop test.

    • @yourcoolunclemarisa
      @yourcoolunclemarisa  6 місяців тому +4

That is absolutely reassuring, glad your drop test didn't end in tears.

had the Jsaux case and i'm pretty happy with it.
the cover was actually my #1 reason for getting that one as i didn't like having the OG carrying case with me on the go. Once you start taking bags out of your bags people on the train will start looking at you. This just lets me comfortably throw my deck into the bag and take it out without going Matroschka mode.
The stand is also very nice. I wouldn't think of using it to play "tabletop mode" but having this thing take up less desk space when i put it down is really neat.

That's a great point, I don't have to clear the dinner table and tuck my Steam Deck in every time it leaves my hands.

I got myself the Skull & Co. GripCase. It's purple! And they managed incorporate a "stand" within the grip by flatening out the bottom. So you just can put the Deck on the bottom edge and it'll stand! I really love that.

(I think the only thing I wish they did was create a front plate like the jsaux. I tried putting the jsaux front plate on it but it was too tight, but for like $17 the skull & co was the highest qualify and comfortable)

I got an LCD Steam Deck on launch day and I've been buying "comfort mods" since day one. I've got a few suggestions, all under $20 on Amazon.
The "PlayVital Mix Version Back Button Enhancement Set" is my #1. Makes those 4 rear buttons FAR easier to press. I'm one of those people that only uses "pro" controllers with rear paddles/extra buttons and this thing helps alot. It's basically a shaped piece of rubber that attaches to the rear buttons with two sided sticky tape (included). Comes with two shapes/textures and is easily applied/removed.
#2 suggestion is more subjective though: "Skull & Co. Convex Thumb Grips Set: Skin, CQC Joystick Cap Analog Stick Cover for Xbox [XSX/XB1] Controller". I'm a weirdo who prefers domed grips. I also wanted to keep the height and surface area close to original as possible.
I'd also recommend "Skull & Co. Skin, CQC and FPS Thumb Grips Set Joystick Cap Analog Stick Cap for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controller". These are a little tricky to put on, and depending on how you use the thumbstick they can come off. For example, when I press forward on the Left Stick I usually use the tip of my thumb to push from the bottom edge and that occasionally detached the grips. It also comes with a decent variety of styles (Concave, Convex and Taller).
If you don't care for domed grips or don't mind deviating from the stock height/size I have two recommendations: "AceShot Thumb Grips (8pc) for Xbox One (Series X, S) & Steamdeck by Foamy Lizard" and "PlayVital Black Ergonomic Thumbstick Grips for Nintendo Switch Pro, PS5, for PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox One X/S Controller". The PlayVitals have 2 or 3 types of designs to choose from. I got the "Raised Dots & Studded Design".
I personally bought both of these for the smallest size they included in the package. The AceShot/Foamy Lizards are slightly bigger, slightly rounder and the texture is "sharper". The PlayVitals are smaller, flatter and the texture is "duller" but the surface area is more textured (covered in more dots) than the AceShots/Foamy Lizard which might be uncomfortable.
Extra suggestion: The JSAUX transparent back plate (the non-vented original). This one specifically doesn't work for the OLED but I mention it because it silences the Steam Deck when it comes to low power games so maybe you could look for an OLED compatible option? Unfortunately it has a few downsides: 1) Obviously you have to disassemble your Steam Deck. Luckily it's pretty easy. 2) It might not have as good a fit/seal as the original SD back plate. 3) The aluminum plate on the back does actually get hot. Like it can actually hurt if you're playing a AAA game and then set your hand on it for like 20 seconds. 4) It's over $20 usually $25ish. I got mine on sale recently for under $20.
Again, imo the cons of the JSAUX back plate are totally worth it to keep the annoying fan off/quieter. But the specific model I used isn't OLED compatible and I do not know if there is an OLED version available at this time.
Anyways, I'd love to see more Steam Deck content! I havent tried a grip but I have a similar issue where I find those bottom rounded corners of the SD to be quite uncomfortable. Idk if it's because they dig right into my palms or what. Interesting to see that SD grips are mostly just covers/protectors. Did the extra weight bother you at all? I really don't understand people who attach battery banks to their SD. LCD already feels like a brick.
    Loved the video!
Edit: I forgot to mention that the JSAUX back plate also comes with 2 extra styles of Rear Buttons. Again if they ever make an OLED compatible version it's worth looking into. Their SD Dock is also pretty decent. I use one myself when I'm using my SD as a normal PC. Also very useful for retro couch co-op. I got the older $30 one with only two USB ports.

Wow, that's comprehensive, I appreciate you sharing! It's definitely still a wait to get stuff for the OLED SD. I'm still waiting on ExtremeRate to release OLED housings so I can reshell mine. I really appreciate you mentioning the Foamy LIzards because I want thumbstick grips and I've left the PlayVital ones in my cart for a while because the colors are so boring haha. Love that the former have more options!
      Thank you for watching

hey! just found ur channel out of nowhere, real cool content! i had some trouble finding comparison videos of cases online. i had been considering cases for a while for my steam deck and the jsaux really did seem like a good option, i just wasnt sure about some aspects. but your video convinced me! When i eventually get a steam deck case the jsaux will be it most likely

Yooooo! Uncle joined the Steam Deck gang!! Now you're even cooler!!!
I got one a few months ago. Thankfully my discomfort using it only lasted a couple of days. This video reminded me of that, but otherwise I had forgotten I ever found it uncomfortable. Thankfully I was able to nab a silicon cover (with thumbstick covers too) that still fits inside the official case for about €10.
    Happy Steam Decking Unc 🖤

I tried all 3 of these cases, and also own the dbrand one. Probably got the most use out of the dbrand, but also really liked the jsaux. Now I don't use any of them, and instead have controller grip tape from talon games. That with a little stick on kick stand have become my favorite set up for the deck.

I bought the DBrand kill switch case when I first purchased my original Steam Deck. It wasn’t necessarily bad….but it wasn’t great.
When I picked up the OLED, I thought I’d try the Skull and Co grip case. It’s crazy that a $17 grip case is better to me, than the Kill Switch case. It even stands on its own. It’s freaking fantastic!

I love the Jsaux case. It feels great in my larger hands. I also got their adhesive accessory mounts for a small and slightly under-powered 35w 10,000mAh battery to use at home. It just sucks that you can't really use the kickstand in tandem with some third party accessories out of the box because it's just a little too bulky.
