    The "cassette in sleeve" thing was pretty much reserved for cheap cassingles (cassette single) back in the day, and sometimes EPs came that way too. They're called an O case or an O-card. As someone who lived through vinyl - 8 Track - Cassette - CD / Minidisc - Digital I do have nostalgia for tapes, but I don't miss them in practicality. I collect vinyl but would love a minidisc revival! Lovely chill video! <3

    Hi Marisa! I collect cassettes too, because it's the only media my 90s car will play and I don't want to buy an Aux adapter. I love skulking music stores and secondhand stores for cassettes- the best treasures are always a mixtape that someone else made. You never know why they made it, maybe it's for someone else, maybe it's for themselves, but it's nice to listen to them and think about the person that made it.

    I have recently sort of inherited my grandmas very old Sony HiFi Tower with both a really good record player and a double tape deck, and while both hers and my parents old tapes and records are not all to my taste, i do really enjoy that they kept them, and have started my own collections :) It's very rewarding to collect such tangible media :D

    I love old things. Physical media. I use to own a Walkman when I was a kid, Sadly the cassettes always died after a few 100 listening. And quality wise they got worse after allot of playback. Same go's with VHS I loved the boxes. Sadly also died most of the time. After that I got a discman love that thing. Quality if the music was always amazing And cd's most of the time did survive for years! I still buy now and then a CD and rip them to a WAV format so it doesn't lose the quality And put them in my phone.. Gonna be honest records where always a waste to me. I did not like the quality they came out of them and I don't thinj they should make new ones.. The optimal bitrate is around 12 so yeah, no thank you. Thank you for your video I did enjoy watching the cassets and box arts!

    All I ever used casettes for were portable copies of records and CDs. TDK SA were my favorite blanks, but I had plenty of those Memorex ones because they were the cheapest decent ones. I have zero desire to go back to hissing tapes, but I do appreciate the unique designs of some you showed off.

  • @Chronis67

    I have to admit, even though I lived with them growing up, I have no desire to return to tapes. Cassettes, VHS, or whatever else. For music, I listen primarily on an old iPod Classic, so my go-tos are CDs for ripping or DRM-free digital downloads. I do have a small vinyl record collection but those are mostly random cheap older albums, albums that I already own and really like, or newer albums from bands I like that come with downloads. It seems like downloads are becoming uncommon on records the past few years though, and for the price that a lot of these are commanding, I find myself skipping on stuff that I may have been interested in otherwise.

    When I was a kid I thought the transparent plastic tapes were so futuristic looking, like they somehow made the music on the opaque tapes crustier and less legit. Also, a couple years ago I saw some tape caught in the bushes in a median, dancing in the wind. I realized I couldn't remember how long it had been since I'd seen that fixture of the urban landscape, and wondered if I'll ever see it again.

    I'm a big cassette tape guy and I almost screamed seeing this video pop up in the subscriptions. I mostly collect future funk tapes, which are sometimes homemade, but the future funk labels specialize in making high quality cassette tapes. They don't have fancy j-cards, but the cassettes themselves have a really high level of detail you don't really see anywhere else. If you want to check them out, I usually look at stuff from Neoncity records and Neo Motel. I'd love to see more cassette content in the future!!!

    Gah, another one of those moments when you lose your big stupid comment and I hate it. Anyhow, since you love guitar and lyrics, might I recommend Springsteen's Nebraska if you've never heard it. I'll also add basically anything Melissa Etheridge ever made. I'm one of those oddball elder Millennials who basically came into music with the CD, but because of my Dad in particular, I got heavily exposed to tape and vinyl, and he always had a fantastic stereo setup. I still prefer CD (unless I can get master grade lossless), but there's something of a ritual that comes with the physical media, especially vinyl.

    See inlay for details. I'm going to show my age with this comment... Cassettes were a huge part of my musical upbringing, so much so that I associate the smell of IPA with cleaning tape heads rather than PCBs. I was part of the hardcore punk/grindcore/death metal tape trading scene in the late 80s/early 90s. They were umpteenth generation copies of copies of copies that sounded terrible, but it introduced me to A LOT of music that I wouldn't've heard otherwise. I still listen to it to this day, mostly on vinyl/CD reissues. Do you keep a Bic biro next to your cassette deck for emergency detangling?

    • @yourcoolunclemarisa
      @yourcoolunclemarisa 14 годин тому

      Does a bic biro fit perfectly? If so, I will have to get one! I really though HB pencils were the ones that fit, but upon googling it seems pencil girths vary regionally lmao. Now I just have a ton of HB pencils....

    • @steve.b.23
      @steve.b.23 4 години тому

      @@yourcoolunclemarisa Not quite perfectly, but if you hold them at a slight angle they do the trick. When you've got past the tangle you can twirl it around your head to wind the rest of the tape back into the shell. And the cap is the right size to expand a centre hole in a record that's a bit too tight for your turntable spindle!

    Being a kid that grew up in the 70's & 80's, I still have my cassette tape collection, as well as a handful of VCR tapes, I gave away most of my record albums to friends. I haven't had a VCR in decades at this point, so I can't watch those, but I still have my Sony Walkman for playing my tapes. It was one of the later models built that actually has a seek and find feature(early 90's), where it will search for the gaps in songs and then begin to play. So not as fast as a CD player search feature, but nice to have for a cassette player, sadly it runs on 1 AA I believe, and that feature kills the battery, but what can you do? LOL

    If I worked this hard on something like this I would literally pull it out and show any person who got near me. "hey I know your grandma just died but let me tell you about this little beauty"

    I recently discovered there's a "House of the Dead" typing game called ... "Typing of the Dead". You type the words or the zombies eat your brains. That and an 18 wheeler game where you can be a woman who drives a pink truck, were among the gems on Sega Naomi. Emulation is never a waste of time.

    It was interesting to hear your different viewpoints on several topics with respect to this device. As a business man traveling often, this display option is very liberating, especially not having to look down at the monitor all the time.

      Thank you for watching! I can see how they'd be so useful for you, that's super awesome - I hope eventually they can get lighter and more adjustable :D

    It sucks that this retro/modding community is so chock-full of f***ing bigots. Now we know they're there when we watch other channels, we just didn't know about it. Thanks for making this channel, and keep getting us awesome content!!

    What!? Mavis Beacon isn't real? I used a lie as one of my tools on the path to typing proficiency? Next thing you're going to tell me is that Mario Teaches Typing didn't give me hard core gamer cred, aren't you?
