Great call on the gasket backwards/upside down! Like you say, if you didn’t know which way it goes, it would be pretty easy to install it the wrong way!

also forget about the fancy IRRIDIUM skinny plugs ... bad!!!
Firing super lean mixtures, the "Double PLATINUM" plugs FIRE MORE CONSISTENTLY, engine runs SMOOTHLY with nice low end torque at 1,200 Rpm. No need to keep mashing the gas pedal to keep up with traffic flow.
Those skinny IRRIDIUMS electrodes are JUNK (random missfires) !!!!
    Try this test:
    - TRANSITION in P: PARK
    - Ramp up engine speed slowly from idle up to 1500 or 2000 rpm
    - If your engine randomly shakes, coughs, its got random misfiring (no DTC code).
These SparkPlugs are usually good to change at 80K to 90kMiles - They run okay pass 110K if your pushing your luck... but as the gap gets wider more misfiring cause a leaner mixture... not good for anything.
    👍🏻

Great video! I took my cover off and was blown away by how much carbon and oil had deposited there. The gasket was actually on correctly though. I cleaned everything up, put it back together and started the car. It pretty much ran the same --rough. I had the codes read and then erased but they actually showed even more misfires on cylinders. Any idea what to do next? Thanks.

Wow, that Gasket appears to be in the correct place when its on the wrong way. That is wild.
It looks more natural for it to be upside down which is of course wrong.
    Good video.

Thanks for sharing informative video. This is what happened to my 2002 MDX. I cleaned the throttle body on the top phlenum only for the first time. Rode test showed check engine light went on and the VTM4 light too after the install. Im glad I saw this video, I was thinking of bringing to the shop, but thought to myself I brought the problem.
    Thanks for sharing sir!

The squares in the EGR gasket have NOTHING to do with diverting the gases!!! The round EGR hole cutouts in the gasket are offset, and if you install the gasket backwards, the EGR ports in the intake manifold will be blocked off.

I had all of these flow paths clogged, the key is to look at the holes that go into each cylinder and align them when putting that gasket down. If you noticed, some holes do not match at all when put incorrectly; those holes must match up. I'm here because I have a very corroded EGR valve and I did not want to take them out, the issue that I have is that I read 1.86 volts, snapon says that it should read around 1.2v when engine off (indicating that pintle is closed). I manually power the EGR valve and I get the engine to stall but I only see around 3.5 volts for the current position. The issue that I have are misfires in cylinders 4 & 6 and sometimes 5. I replaced the PVC valve because it was open (pintle inside was loose); I don't know if that was my issue for sure but I still feel a slight misfire but no check engine so far, I think it may come back since the EGR being slightly open is also contributing.

Thank you bro I’m gonna have to check that gasket again 😅🤦🏾‍♂️ I did a valve cover gasket replacement/engine coil/spark plug and a manifold kit gasket after install started up giving me a misfire code cylinder 1/2/4/5/6 smh on a 05 Acura MDX 4wd 😅

VERY helpful video.I have been dealing with a check engine light for cylinder misfires 4,5 &6. My mechanic has looked at my car several times for the check engine light.Everytime he tells me its fixed and a few days later the light is on.This is definately something i could try out.Do you happen to have an email i can possibly run a few questions by? Im not sure where to look next if this doesnt solve my issue. If thats not something you do thats all good. Thanks!

I keep forgetting the EGR as a cause of misfire. This one is odd, not really sticking open or sticking closed....

If you dont have any DTC Code then simply replace your plugs with "double platinum" (NOT the skinny Iridium pin). This curred my random misfires near idle.
if you get codes then diagnose by
moving spark coils Front to Back to see if code follows bad coil !
      👍🏻

I have a 2004 MDX, ive installed new spark plugs and replaced bad coils, but I am still getting a hesitation\pull back when taking off from a dead stop.. I will try to clean the EGR Ports and remove EGR Valve entirely and clean it out.. But has anyone experienced this issue before?

Wondering if anyone can help me with my frustrating misfire in my 2008
acura 3.5l v6 172k. It only misfires when cold or sitting for a lil
while. When it misfires it only lasts for 5 to 15 seconds then goes
away. Things iv done: replaced all the spark plugs and coils. Replaced
all the fuel injectors and did a valve adjustment. Cleaned egr and
intake manifold. Put in new pcv valve and map sensor. Sometimes it will
throw random misfire p0300 or just a #5 cly. misfire. Then some days it
wont misfire at all. Im lost. Please help!!!!

you've done more than the basic would call for 👍🏻👍🏻
Get a scanner to LOOK AT LIVE DATA for your engine fuel trim: short term, long term.
Without that you ate blind as to why its misfiring !
I bet you will find your fuel trim is too lean because engine is not burning good enough.
      - Fuel rail pressure regulator
      - Crappy Iridium plugs
      - OEM O2 Sensors
Using a scanner will help you see what the engine computer is doing.
      👍🏻

EGR flow > lean condition > random misfire.
    (Not cylinder specific misfire)
