    I suggest all aged Honda owners consider valve adjustment. I recently did JDM 2008 Civic 1.8. Exhaust clearance is 0.25mm but even 0.20mm feeler gauge just would not slide in. That just was that tight. After clearance fuel trim showed about 5% improvement and quieter as well. As always, yours just is crystal clear to understand with all the very fine details. Thanks again.

    Awesome video. I just did the valve adjustment on my Honda Accord V6 6-speed. I think it's the same motor as this. My car would miss fire like a bitch when it was cold. And wouldn't misfire at all or very little when it was warm. Upon getting to the valves. I noticed some of my exhaust were extremely tight and I could not even get the feeler gauges in. And the intake were really loose almost floppy. After I finished it tonight the car feels like it has so much more power. And it didn't seem to misfire at all even from cold. But I guess I won't know until tomorrow for sure! But it definitely made things better

    Just finished valve adjustment myself on my 07 TL. Kept second guessing myself. Still gonna double check each cylinder before i bolt the covers back on. Surprisingly none of my exhaust valves were tight. Even at 246k miles. And this car never had a valve adjustment. Intakes were very loose tho.

      That's the thing with me I'm not going to do this job myself and I don't want to pay anyone if I don't have too I have 155 k miles on my 07 ridgeline.

    One of the main problems I see with this engine is how dirty it is. You tell the owner(s) didn’t change their oil often.

    As an Acura TL owner, I really enjoyed the video and learned alot. Thank you for thoroughly explaining the necessary valve adjustments on these older Acura V-6s. Loved the neat camera shots when you lined up & adjusted each cylinder. Good stuff.

    recently did a valve adjustment on an 08 accord. no codes or light before adjusting. some stuff felt loose. double checked everything. i don’t think i tightened too much because it felt like a slight drag with the feelers. bolted it all up and, now it misfires on cyl 4. gonna go in and re adjust. assuming too tight?

    Thanks for adding the information about the misfire codes. I keep getting engine light on and misfire codes on all 6 cylinders. My mechanic said I needed the valve adjustment, but wanted confirmation. I've got 145,000 miles and never did the adjustment. Time to "get it done." Great video.

    did you do this job because you had a misfire on one cylinder or more than 1 cyl? i only have a misfire on cylinder # 5 i have replaced the fuel the plug and the coil. now I'm going to do a valve job on # 5 and I will check 4 and 6 while I'm in there.

    Do u have to look at the timing Numbers at the rear to adjust the rear? It's nearly impossible without a Endocamera?

      All the numbers are on the front cam. You can also use a mirror to see the numbers

    Can this be an issue for an acura MDX 07 that is throwing 1 specific cylinder missfire, I have already done new plugs & coil packs & new fuel injector, could it be the valves for 1 cylinder missfire is my question?

    Looks like another great day on the island. How much rust and corrosion do you have to deal with?
    Enjoying the channel, keep up the good work and vids.

      Thank you! Yes lots of rust and corrosion from the ocean, salt in the air, humidity... ive seen rotted frames, trucks folded in half on the side of the road from a collapsed frame.

    Was this car shaky on cold start? Mines a 2004 MDX with 178k. Lmk thanks

    • @FixItPhillip
      @FixItPhillip  4 роки тому

      Yes would trigger multiple misfires especially on a cold start. Then would clear up as it warmed up

      @FixItPhillip thank you! I just hve 2 more questions though, it is possible to do this without having to fix a potential surging idle with a Honda OBD code reader and reset it? Could I just disconnect the battery, leave the TB hooked up clean the TB and get away with no surging idle after I put it all back togther and start the engine?

    • @FixItPhillip
      @FixItPhillip  2 місяці тому +1

      @brandonlogan2600 you can try a battery disconnect for about 10 min to see if it'll clear the code

    Hey Philip great video. I’m more of a curious guy that likes to understand what my mechanic does to my car. I have a 2008 Acura TL. He said I should get the valves adjusted. It has 116K. I don’t have any codes but I understand it is good to do as maintenance. I have had my transmission feel a little rough for about 6-7 months now. Would that have anything to do with valves? I’ve done ATF changes regularly , changed all 3 pressure switches. Btw how much should the valve adjustment cost for my car? Thanks so much in advance for your feedback.

    Interesting to watch and learn! Do you know if J37 engine cylinder head covers require RTV to be applied?

    • @FixItPhillip
      @FixItPhillip  3 роки тому +1

      I dont believe so I think its just the rubber valve cover gasket. And the spark plug tube seals

  • @Drundel

    Cool. So how long did it take you from start to finish? I've read about the valves on the CRV forum, but thankfully mine is running fine so far.

      This 3.5 v6 took me about 3 hrs. Take your time adjusting the valves dont rush, make aure their within spec.

    Have an 07 Acura MDX thinking of adjusting mines due to the same issue. Do I need to torque the valve cover bolts to a specific spec? Also Installed new spark plugs & ignition coils and still having misfires 🤬 went to Autozone & got the same codes & they printed me out a sheet suggesting valve adjustment. Thanks for your video it’ll help me get this taken care off & save me $500

    • @FixItPhillip
      @FixItPhillip  4 роки тому +1

      The valve cover bolts have a little shelf where they will bottom out, you should feel the bolts stop turning. I believe its only about 8 ft pounds. But you should look up the specs for your vehicle.
