    Worked on that bird many times as an A&P with USAirways in Pittsburgh, but that big ass door wasn't on it. That one came to us with the Piedmont merger. (Explains some of those skin repairs. Piedmont engineers loved those protruding head fastener repairs.😂) Keep an eye on those dents at 3:19. I'm sure they are within limits, with scheduled repetitive HFEC scans. That is going to be a workhorse!!! Congrats Buffalo Airways!

      @@juliogonzo2718 yeah it’s super common to use a standard NAS headed rivet for repairs. Especially if you are picking up existing rivets in frames or stringers and don’t have material thickness for flush heads. It just does not look as clean as a countersunk/counter bored rivet.

    An old school plane, with 'steam' gauges. It looks really nice, the livery is sharp. It was built in 1989, originally for USA based Piedmont Airways, that later merged into US Air/US Airways. Then went to Boeing for cargo conversion including the large side door, it was then used by years by European based freighter airlines.

    • @viscount757
      @viscount757 11 місяців тому +3

      Built in 1986, not 1989. Now almost 37 years old. First flight October 1/86, delivered to Piedmont October 16/86. Piedmont was acquired by US Air in 1987 but operated separately until 1989 when fully merged with US Air (rebranded US Airways in 1997).

    My father has flown this exact airplane as N558AU with US Airways. The rumor he heard, was that Piedmont, USAir, and Southwest all had paid Boeing extra money to order 737-300s/400s with analogue ADIs and HSIs. For USAir, they had alot of pilots stepping out of the 727s, (including Dad) and 737-200s. They thought that the analogue flight deck would prevent having to put the pilots through a ground-up, full training cycle for the new airplane.
    This bit them in the rear, because the far more advanced autopilot and fms ended up requiring the full training anyways. And so the airline paid extra for the older guages for basically no reason. But Dad enjoyed the older panel.
    He does still joke that the 737 was short, fat, and slow compared to the 727 which was his favorite, though. 🤷‍♂️He is still with American, but on th A320 series now.

    • @samuelharper9411
      @samuelharper9411 11 місяців тому +2

      The first 300s weren’t offered with EFIS, That became an option soon after which most operators chose. It’s only really the first builds that have the analogue version with a few exceptions…

    • @jimcosklo701
      @jimcosklo701 11 місяців тому +3

      @@samuelharper9411 Ahh, interesting. Maybe that rumor applied to the 400s then. All of US Airways' 400s also had the full analogue panel as well. My father had said that they may have inherited a few of the partial glass panel versions from the America West merger, but he isn't sure, and never saw any if they had.

    • @samuelharper9411
      @samuelharper9411 11 місяців тому +4

      @@jimcosklo701 yeah I believe a couple of airlines in the US opted for the analogue cockpit on all of their 737 classics, southwest did. They believed it would reduce the amount of training needed for the new type but because of the new autopilot system and fmc they still had to do a lot of training so it was pointless really, they even disabled the auto throttles on all their 737ngs and classics for some time. Funnily enough southwest even pressed Boeing to sell them 737 ngs with analogue displays but this wasn’t possible so they compromised by making the displays look like the old gauges in the 737 classics and -200. Eventually southwest decided to “get with the times” and retrofitted all of the remaining classics with lcd displays and permitted the use of auto throttle.

      Wow! what a wonderful insight your dad's story is to being a pilot and flying this actual lovely 737 301 and the tales about the upgrades abd training, I guess? Forgive me if Im wrong as I'm a newbie avigeek and o.a.p to aviation bitten by the bug (1 yr in since Aug 2022) and have come to love a West Atlantic caro boeing 737 300Y0(SF) G-JMCT who is 33.6yrs old here in the UK, which I follow on fr24basic and if lucky on a few live streams. However, he is away in Sofia these last 13 or so days having 'tech'(?) an avigeek friend told me as I've been so worried not seeing him flying his usual routes EDI out of Stansted here in Essex. When this gorgeous Buffalo aircraft popped up as an 'you might like this video' from one of my avi friends on the streams we follow, I was blown away! Oh my gosh! what a gorgeous job they have done on it at Bournmouth and hopefully there will be more videos on its progress as I really want to follow its new career over in Canada. I laughed and loved your dad's comments about this little short fat 737 and maybe that's why I love him already, because I'm short 4ft 10 ins, not so fat now but I can relate! Lovely story hon thank you so much for sharing this Buffalo jet's history that your dad has actually flown. Bless you both, you've made a short dumpy newbie avigeek old girl very very happy! Xx ❤😊😂

      @@michellejohnson3867 You are very kind, Ma'am. Thank you! 😊 I'm glad that you enjoyed my story.
      I've never heard the term "avigeek," before, but I would imagine that I fit the description.
      Dad flew the Boeing 727 for the first 9 years of my life. It is still my favorite airliner of all time, as well as Dad's.
      Even on the ground, the 727 looks as fast as any fighter jet. It was actually even cooler than a fighter jet, because my mom, my brothers, and I could all ride in the back while Dad flew! Also, because it was pre-9/11, Dad could show his ID back then and we could sit on the flight deck when the airplane was parked for the day! I cried when US Airways retired them.

At least speaking for the old US Airways 737's they kept the steam gauges on both their -400's and -300's. Which I'm under the assumption is to making training costs lower.

      @@charlestiddy4402 hi hon I missed out on it all and am wondering if anyone at Bournmouth did a live stream of it, or privately filmed it taking off? Im over in Essex and follow another 737 300Y0(SF) G-JMCT cargo boy out of Stansted to Edinburgh' but he's stuck out in Bulgaria at Sofia these last 13 days and another friend on the streams told me he was safe and still there and probably having 'tech' . Oh dear he's an oldie too at 33yrs 6mths so am really worried. I have fr24basic free app usually follow him on that. Then a few days ago this beauty came up from another avifriend about Buffalo air cargo and this 737 so I missed this one's journey! Thank you if you can advise. Im newbie hon just a year in o.a.p avigeek bitten by the aviation bug! xx ❤😢😊

    Couldn’t hear a single word the guy said showing the plane. Try using microphones.

    36 years old. Former swift air jet. Hmmm not that positive about her. She was an Ocean Flyer on the Frontier Airlines of the latin world. That's a lot of hard cycles.

      I certainly hope they have a few guys there at Buffalo HQ. There's a lot of hidden secrets on these old Classics. The maintenance manuals are very lackluster
